We address the problem of constructing large undirected circulant networks with given degree and diameter. First we discuss the theoretical upper bounds and their asymptotics, and then we describe and implement a computer-based method to find large circulant graphs with given parameters. For several combinations of degree and diameter, our algorithm produces the largest known circulant graphs. We summarize our findings in a table, up to degree 15 and diameter 10, and we perform a statistical analysis of this table, which can be useful for evaluating the performance of our methods, as well as other constructions in the future.
In 2002, Tonchev first constructed some linear binary codes defined by the adjacency matrices of undirected graphs. So, graph is an important tool for searching optimum codes. In this paper, we introduce a new method of searching (proposed) optimum formally self-dual linear binary codes from circulant graphs.
In this paper we determine partial answers to the question given in the title, thereby significantly extending results of Broere and Hattingh. We characterize completely those pairs of complete graphs whose tensor products are circulant. We establish that if the orders of these circulant graphs have greatest common divisor of 2, the product is circulant whenever both graphs are bipartite. We also establish that it is possible for one of the two graphs not to be circulant and the product still to be circulant.
In $2006$, Danielsen and Parker \cite{DP} proved that every self-dual additive code over $GF(4)$ is equivalent to a graph code. So, graph is an important tool for searching (proposed) optimum codes. In this paper, we introduce a new method of searching (proposed) optimum additive codes from circulant graphs.
In this paper we study the graph parameter of burning number, introduced by Bonato, Janssen, and Roshanbin (2014). We are particular interested in determining the burning number of Circulant graphs. In this paper, we find upper and lower bounds on the burning number of classes of circulant graphs of degree at most four. The burning number is found exactly for a family of circulant graphs of degree three, and two specific families of circulant graphs of degree four. Finally, we given upper and lower bounds on the burning number of families of circulant graphs of higher degree.
We characterize the equivalence and the weak equivalence of Cayley graphs for a finite group $\C{A}$. Using these characterizations, we find degree distribution polynomials for weak equivalence of some graphs including 1) circulant graphs of prime power order, 2) circulant graphs of order $4p$, 3) circulant graphs of square free order and 4) Cayley graphs of order $p$ or $2p$. As an application, we find an enumeration formula for the number of weak equivalence classes of circulant graphs of prime power order, order $4p$ and square free order and Cayley graphs of order $p$ or $2p$.
An oriented circulant graph is called integral if all eigenvalues of its Hermitian adjacency matrix are integers. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the existence of perfect state transfer ($\PST$ for short) and multiple state transfer ($\MST$ for short) on integral oriented circulant graphs. Specifically, a characterization of $\PST$ (or $\MST$) on integral oriented circulant graphs is provided. As an application, we also obtain a closed-form expression for the number of integral oriented circulant graphs with fixed order having $\PST$ (or $\MST$).
It is well-known that the zero forcing number of a graph provides a lower bound on the minimum rank of a graph. In this paper we bound and characterize the zero forcing number of certain circulant graphs, including some bipartite circulants, cubic circulants, and circulants which are torus products, to obtain bounds on the minimum rank and the maximum nullity. We also evaluate when the zero forcing number will give equality.
Various results on factorisations of complete graphs into circulant graphs and on 2-factorisations of these circulant graphs are proved. As a consequence, a number of new results on the Oberwolfach Problem are obtained. For example, a complete solution to the Oberwolfach Problem is given for every 2-regular graph of order 2p where p = 5 (mod 8) is prime.
We study the existence of quantum state transfer on non-integral circulant graphs. We find that continuous time quantum walks on quantum networks based on certain circulant graphs with $2^k$ $\left(k\in\mathbb{Z}\right)$ vertices exhibit pretty good state transfer when there is no external dynamic control over the system. We generalize few previously known results on pretty good state transfer on circulant graphs, and this way we re-discover all integral circulant graphs on $2^k$ vertices exhibiting perfect state transfer.
A mixed circulant graph is called integral if all eigenvalues of its Hermitian adjacency matrix are integers. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the existence of perfect state transfer (PST for short) and multiple state transfer (MST for short) on integral mixed circulant graphs. Concretely, we provide sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of PST and MST between specified pairs of vertices on integral mixed circulant graphs, respectively.
The number of spanning trees in a class of directed circulant graphs with generators depending linearly on the number of vertices $βn$, and in the $n$-th and $(n-1)$-th power graphs of the $βn$-cycle are evaluated as a product of $\lceilβ/2\rceil-1$ terms.
In this paper, we provide a natural bijection between a special family of block circulant graphs and the graphs of critical pairs of the posets known as generalized crowns. In particular, every graph in this family of block circulant graphs we investigate has a generating block row that follows a symmetric growth pattern of the all ones matrix. The natural bijection provides an upper bound on the chromatic number for this infinite family of graphs.

A random circulant graph results from deleting edges of H with probability 1-p. We provide a polynomial time algorithm that approximates the solution to the minimum linear arrangement problem for random circulant graphs. We show that almost all circulant graphs have automorphism groups as small as possible. Of the circulant graphs that do not have automorphism group as small as possible, we give some families of integers such that it is not true that almost all circulant graphs whose order lies in any one of these families, are normal. That almost all Cayley (di)graphs whose automorphism group is not as small as possible are normal was conjectured by the second author, so these results provide counterexamples to this conjecture. We investigate the distinguishing chromatic number for Hamiltonian circulant graphs with maximum degree at most 4.
In this paper we prove that if an infinite circulant graph with $k$ distances has a perfect $2$-colouring with parameters $(b, c)$, then $b + c \leq 2k + \frac{b+c}{q^t}$ for all positive integers $t$ and primes $q$ satisfying $\frac{b+c}{gcd(b,c)}\vdots q^t$. In addition, we show that if $b + c = q^t$, then this necessary condition becomes sufficient for the existence of perfect $2$-colourings in circulant graphs.

Let $G$ be the circulant graph $C_n(S)$ with $S\subseteq\{ 1,\ldots,\left \lfloor\frac{n}{2}\right \rfloor\}$. We study the reduced Euler characteristic $\tildeχ$ of the independence complex $Δ(G)$ for $n=p^k$ with $p$ prime and for $n=2p^k$ with $p$ odd prime, proving that in both cases $\tildeχ$ does not vanish. We also give an example of circulant graph whose independence complex has $\tildeχ$ equals to $0$, giving a negative answer to R. Hoshino.
The WL-dimension of a graph X is the smallest positive integer m such that the m-dimensional Weisfeiler-Leman algorithm correctly tests the isomorphism between X and any other graph. It is proved that the WL-dimension of any circulant graph of prime power order is at most 3, and this bound cannot be reduced. The proof is based on using theories of coherent configurations and Cayley schemes over a cyclic group.
The WL-rank of a digraph $Γ$ is defined to be the rank of the coherent configuration of $Γ$. The WL-dimension of $Γ$ is defined to be the smallest positive integer $m$ for which $Γ$ is identified by the $m$-dimensional Weisfeiler-Leman algorithm. We classify the Deza circulant graphs of WL-rank $4$. In additional, it is proved that each of these graphs has WL-dimension at most $3$. Finally, we establish that some families of Deza circulant graphs have WL-rank $5$ or $6$ and WL-dimension at most $3$.

The paper concerns the automorphism groups of Cayley graphs over cyclic groups which have a rational spectrum (rational circulant graphs for short). With the aid of the techniques of Schur rings it is shown that the problem is equivalent to consider the automorphism groups of orthogonal group block structures of cyclic groups. Using this observation, the required groups are expressed in terms of generalized wreath products of symmetric groups.
We consider the number of spanning trees in circulant graphs of $βn$ vertices with generators depending linearly on $n$. The matrix tree theorem gives a closed formula of $βn$ factors, while we derive a formula of $β-1$ factors. Using the same trick, we also derive a formula for the number of spanning trees in discrete tori. Moreover, the spanning tree entropy of circulant graphs with fixed and non-fixed generators is compared.

We consider the degree-diameter problem for undirected and directed circulant graphs. To date, attempts to generate families of large circulant graphs of arbitrary degree for a given diameter have concentrated mainly on the diameter 2 case. In this paper we introduce a class of regular bipartite graphs whose biadjacency matrices are circulant matrices and we describe some of their properties. Notably, we compute upper and lower bounds for the zero forcing number for such a graph based only on the parameters that describe its biadjacency matrix. The main results of the paper characterize the bipartite circulant graphs that achieve equality in the lower bound.

In this paper, we use Breadth-first search algorithm to determine the distance matrix of multiplicative circulant graph of order power of two and three. As a consequence, the diameter of the graphs were determined. We also give their distance spectral radii, average distances, as well as the exact values of vertex-forwarding indices. Finally, using some known relationships between the distance spectral radii and forwarding indices of a graph, we give some bounds for their edge-forwarding indices.
This is the full proof of Theorem 3 on the existence of the largest known degree 8 circulant graph for all diameters stated in the paper "The degree-diameter problem for circulant graphs of degree 8 and 9" by the author. To avoid the paper being unduly long the exceptions for only one case were included in the statement of the proof. In the statement of the proof presented in this paper the exceptions for all cases are included in full. This proof closely follows the approach taken by Dougherty and Faber for the existence of the largest known degree 6 circulant graph for all diameters.
