In 2002, Tonchev first constructed some linear binary codes defined by the adjacency matrices of undirected graphs. So, graph is an important tool for searching optimum codes. In this paper, we introduce a new method of searching (proposed) optimum formally self-dual linear binary codes from circulant graphs.
A classification of extremal double circulant self-dual codes of lengths up to $88$ is known. We give a classification of extremal double circulant self-dual codes of lengths $90,92,94$ and $96$. We also classify double circulant self-dual codes with parameters $[90,45,14]$ and $[96,48,16]$. In addition, we demonstrate that no double circulant self-dual $[90,45,14]$ code has an extremal self-dual neighbor, and no double circulant self-dual $[96,45,16]$ code has a self-dual neighbor with minimum weight at least $18$.
We study the performance of ternary isodual codes which are not self-dual and ternary self-dual codes, as measured by the decoding error probability in bounded distance decoding. We compare the performance of ternary double circulant and double twistulant codes which are not self-dual with ternary extremal self-dual codes. We also investigate the performance of ternary self-dual codes having large minimum weights.
In this work, we give three new techniques for constructing Hermitian self-dual codes over commutative Frobenius rings with a non-trivial involutory automorphism using $λ$-circulant matrices. The new constructions are derived as modifications of various well-known circulant constructions of self-dual codes. Applying these constructions together with the building-up construction, we construct many new best known quaternary Hermitian self-dual codes of lengths 26, 32, 36, 38 and 40.
In this work, we generalize the four circulant construction for self-dual codes. By applying the constructions over the alphabets F_2, F_2 + uF_2, F_4+uF_4, we were able to obtain extremal binary self-dual codes of lengths 40, 64 including new extremal binary self-dual codes of length 68. More precisely, 43 new extremal binary self-dual codes of length 68, with rare new parameters have been constructed.
In this work, we give a new technique for constructing self-dual codes over commutative Frobenius rings using $λ$-circulant matrices. The new construction was derived as a modification of the well-known four circulant construction of self-dual codes. Applying this technique together with the building-up construction, we construct singly-even binary self-dual codes of lengths 56, 58, 64, 80 and 92 that were not known in the literature before. Singly-even self-dual codes of length 80 with $β\in\{2,4,5,6,8\}$ in their weight enumerators are constructed for the first time in the literature.
We introduce an altered version of the four circulant construction over group rings for self-dual codes. We consider this construction over the binary field, the rings F_2 + uF_2 and F_4 + uF_4; using groups of order 3, 7, 9, 13, and 15. Through these constructions and their extensions, we find binary self-dual codes of lengths 32, 40, 56, 64, 68 and 80, all of which are extremal or optimal. In particular, we find five new self-dual codes of parameters [56, 28, 10], twenty-three extremal binary self-dual codes of length 68 with new weight enumerators and fifteen new self-dual codes of paramete…
In this work, we propose a modified four circulant construction for self-dual codes and a bordered version of the construction using the properties of λ-circulant and λ-reverse circulant matrices. By using the constructions on $F_2$, we obtain new binary codes of lengths 64 and 68. We also apply the constructions to the ring $R_2$ and considering the $F_2$ and $R_1$-extensions, we obtain new singly-even extremal binary self-dual codes of lengths 66 and 68. More precisely, we find 3 new codes of length 64, 15 new codes of length 66 and 22 new codes of length 68. These codes all have weight enum…
In this note, we investigate the performance of optimal double circulant even codes which are not self-dual, as measured by the decoding error probability in bounded distance decoding. To do this, we classify the optimal double circulant even codes that are not self-dual which have the smallest weight distribution for lengths up to $72$. We also give some restrictions on the weight enumerators of (extremal) self-dual $[54,27,10]$ codes with shadows of minimum weight $3$. Finally, we consider the performance of extremal self-dual codes of lengths $88$ and $112$.
In this work, quadratic double and quadratic bordered double circulant constructions are applied to F_4 + uF_4 as well as F_4, as a result of which extremal binary self-dual codes of length 56 and 64 are obtained. The binary extension theorems as well as the ring extension version are used to obtain 7 extremal self-dual binary codes of length 58, 24 extremal self-dual binary codes of length 66 and 29 extremal self-dual binary codes of length 68, all with new weight enumerators, updating the list of all the known extremal self-dual codes in the literature.
In order to construct quantum $[[n,0,d]]$ codes for $(n,d)=(56,15)$, $(57,15)$, $(58,16)$, $(63,16)$, $(67,17)$, $(70,18)$, $(71,18)$, $(79,19)$, $(83,20)$, $(87,20)$, $(89,21)$, $(95,20)$, we construct self-dual additive $\mathbb{F}_4$-codes of length $n$ and minimum weight $d$ from circulant graphs. The quantum codes with these parameters are constructed for the first time.
In this paper, we construct self-dual codes from a construction that involves both block circulant matrices and block quadratic residue circulant matrices. We provide conditions when this construction can yield self-dual codes. We construct self-dual codes of various lengths over F2 and F2 + uF2. Using extensions, neighbours and sequences of neighbours, we construct many new self-dual codes. In particular, we construct one new self-dual code of length 66 and 51 new self-dual codes of length 68.
Quadratic residue codes have been one of the most important classes of algebraic codes. They have been generalized into duadic codes and quadratic double circulant codes. In this paper we introduce a new subclass of double circulant codes, called {\em{duadic double circulant codes}}, which is a generalization of quadratic double circulant codes for prime lengths. This class generates optimal self-dual codes, optimal linear codes, and linear codes with the best known parameters in a systematic way. We describe a method to construct duadic double circulant codes using 4-cyclotomic cosets and giv…
In this paper we investigate codes over finite commutative rings R, whose generator matrices are built from \$α\$-circulant matrices. For a non-trivial ideal I<R we give a method to lift such codes over R/I to codes over R, such that some isomorphic copies are avoided. For the case where I is the minimal ideal of a finite chain ring we refine this lifting method: We impose the additional restriction that lifting preserves self-duality. It will be shown that this can be achieved by solving a linear system of equations over a finite field. Finally we apply this technique to Z_4-linear double neg…
In $2006$, Danielsen and Parker \cite{DP} proved that every self-dual additive code over $GF(4)$ is equivalent to a graph code. So, graph is an important tool for searching (proposed) optimum codes. In this paper, we introduce a new method of searching (proposed) optimum additive codes from circulant graphs.
We show that (n,2^n) additive codes over GF(4) can be represented as directed graphs. This generalizes earlier results on self-dual additive codes over GF(4), which correspond to undirected graphs. Graph representation reduces the complexity of code classification, and enables us to classify additive (n,2^n) codes over GF(4) of length up to 7. From this we also derive classifications of isodual and formally self-dual codes. We introduce new constructions of circulant and bordered circulant directed graph codes, and show that these codes will always be isodual. A computer search of all such cod…
For $(n,d)= (66,17),(78,19)$ and $(94,21)$, we construct quantum $[[n,0,d]]$ codes which improve the previously known lower bounds on the largest minimum weights among quantum codes with these parameters. These codes are constructed from self-dual additive $\mathbb{F}_4$-codes based on pairs of circulant matrices.
In the present paper, we give the Assmus--Mattson type theorem for near-extremal Type I and even formally self-dual codes. We show the existence of $1$-designs or $2$-designs for these codes. As a corollary, we prove the uniqueness of a self-orthogonal $2$-$(16,6,8)$ design.
In this work, we define a modification of a bordered construction for self-dual codes which utilises $λ$-circulant matrices. We provide the necessary conditions for the construction to produce self-dual codes over finite commutative Frobenius rings of characteristic 2. Using the modified construction together with the neighbour construction, we construct many binary self-dual codes of lengths 54, 68, 82 and 94 with weight enumerators that have previously not been known to exist.
We give a classification of four-circulant singly even self-dual $[60,30,d]$ codes for $d=10$ and $12$. These codes are used to construct extremal singly even self-dual $[60,30,12]$ codes with weight enumerator for which no extremal singly even self-dual code was previously known to exist. From extremal singly even self-dual $[60,30,12]$ codes, we also construct extremal singly even self-dual $[58,29,10]$ codes with weight enumerator for which no extremal singly even self-dual code was previously known to exist. Finally, we give some restriction on the possible weight enumerators of certain si…
We study the notion of formal self duality in finite abelian groups. Formal duality in finite abelian groups has been proposed by Cohn, Kumar, Reiher and Schürmann. In this paper we give a precise definition of formally self dual sets and discuss results from the literature in this perspective. Also, we discuss the connection to formally dual codes. We prove that formally self dual sets can be reduced to primitive formally self dual sets similar to a previously known result on general formally dual sets. Furthermore, we describe several properties of formally self dual sets. Also, some new exa…
In this paper, we present a new bordered construction for self-dual codes which employs $λ$-circulant matrices. We give the necessary conditions for our construction to produce self-dual codes over a finite commutative Frobenius ring of characteristic 2. Moreover, using our bordered construction together with the well-known building-up and neighbour methods, we construct many binary self-dual codes of lengths 56, 62, 78, 92 and 94 with parameters in their weight enumerators that were not known in the literature before.
We shortly present two small results regarding the study formal duality in finite abelian groups as introduced by Cohn, Kumar, Reiher and Schürmann. In particular, we give a new example of a formally self dual set in $\mathbb{Z}_2^2\times\mathbb{Z}_4^2$ and computed nonexistence of primitive formally dual sets of size $8$ in $\mathbb{Z}_8^2$.
Inspired by an experimental study of energy-minimizing periodic configurations in Euclidean space, Cohn, Kumar and Schürmann proposed the concept of formal duality between a pair of periodic configurations, which indicates an unexpected symmetry possessed by the energy-minimizing periodic configurations. Later on, Cohn, Kumar, Reiher and Schürmann translated the formal duality between a pair of periodic configurations into the formal duality of a pair of subsets in a finite abelian group. This insight suggests to study the combinatorial counterpart of formal duality, which is a configuration n…
The concept of formal duality was proposed by Cohn, Kumar and Schürmann, which reflects a remarkable symmetry among energy-minimizing periodic configurations. This formal duality was later on translated into a purely combinatorial property by Cohn, Kumar, Reiher and Schürmann, where the corresponding combinatorial objects were called formally dual pairs. Almost all known examples of primitive formally dual pairs satisfy that the two subsets have the same size. Indeed, prior to this work, there was only one known example having subsets with unequal sizes in $\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}_4^2$.…
The concept of formal duality was proposed by Cohn, Kumar and Schürmann, which reflects a remarkable symmetry among energy-minimizing periodic configurations. This formal duality was later translated into a purely combinatorial property by Cohn, Kumar, Reiher and Schürmann, where the corresponding combinatorial objects were called formally dual pairs. So far, except the results presented in Li and Pott (arXiv:1810.05433v3), we have little information about primitive formally dual pairs having subsets with unequal sizes. In this paper, we propose a direct construction of primitive formally dual…
Quantum stabilizer states over GF(m) can be represented as self-dual additive codes over GF(m^2). These codes can be represented as weighted graphs, and orbits of graphs under the generalized local complementation operation correspond to equivalence classes of codes. We have previously used this fact to classify self-dual additive codes over GF(4). In this paper we classify self-dual additive codes over GF(9), GF(16), and GF(25). Assuming that the classical MDS conjecture holds, we are able to classify all self-dual additive MDS codes over GF(9) by using an extension technique. We prove that t…
We give a new and short proof of the Mallows-Sloane upper bound for self-dual codes. We formulate a version of Greene's theorem for normalized weight enumerators. We relate normalized rank-generating polynomials to two-variable zeta functions. And we show that a self-dual code has the Clifford property, but that the same property does not hold in general for formally self-dual codes.
The Lovász theta number is a semidefinite programming bound on the clique number of (the complement of) a given graph. Given a vertex-transitive graph, every vertex belongs to a maximal clique, and so one can instead apply this semidefinite programming bound to the local graph. In the case of the Paley graph, the local graph is circulant, and so this bound reduces to a linear programming bound, allowing for fast computations. Impressively, the value of this program with Schrijver's nonnegativity constraint rivals the state-of-the-art closed-form bound recently proved by Hanson and Petridis. We…
Let $Γ$ denote a distance-regular graph with classical parameters $(D,b,α,β)$ and $b\not=1$, $α=b-1$. The condition on $α$ implies that $Γ$ is formally self-dual. For $b=q^2$ we use the adjacency matrix and dual adjacency matrix to obtain an action of the $q$-tetrahedron algebra $\boxtimes_q$ on the standard module of $Γ$. We describe four algebra homomorphisms into $\boxtimes_q$ from the quantum affine algebra $U_q({\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2})$; using these we pull back the above $\boxtimes_q$-action to obtain four actions of $U_q({\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2})$ on the standard module of $Γ$.
Linear codes with complementary duals are linear codes whose intersection with their duals are trivial, shortly named LCD codes. In this paper we outline a construction for LCD codes over finite fields of order $q$ using weighing matrices and their orbit matrices. The LCD codes constructed can be of any length dimension according to the choice of matrices used in their construction. As a special case, LCD codes of length $2n$ and dimension $n$ are constructed which also have the property of being formally self-dual. Alternatively, under a condition depending on $q$ that the codes are not LCD, …
