In this paper we prove, if $u$ is a global solution to Navier-Stokes equations in the Sobolev-Gevrey spaces $H^1_{a,σ}(\mathbb R^3)$, then $\|u(t)\|_{H^1_{a,σ}}$ decays to zero as time goes to infinity. Fourier analysis is used.
In \cite{JB1}, Benameur proved a blow-up result of the non regular solution of $(NSE)$ in the Sobolev-Gevrey spaces. In this paper we improve this result, precisely we give an exponential type explosion in Sobolev-Gevrey spaces with less regularity on the initial condition. Fourier analysis is used.
In this paper, we prove that there exists a unique global solution of $3D$ Navier-Stokes equation if $\exp(a|D|^{1/σ})u^0\in{\mathcal{X}}^{-1}(\mathbb R^3)$ and $\|u^0\|_{\mathcal{X}^{-1}}<ν$. Moreover, we will show that $\|\exp(a|D|^{1/σ}) u(t)\|_{\mathcal{X}^{-1}}$ goes to zero if the time $t$ goes to infinity.
In this paper, we study the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations (NSE) with periodic boundary conditions and potential body forces. In particular, we prove that the Foias-Saut asymptotic expansion for the regular solutions of the NSE in fact holds in {\textit{all Gevrey classes}}. This strengthens the previous result obtained in Sobolev spaces by Foias-Saut. By using the Gevrey-norm technique of Foias-Temam, the proof of our improved result simplifies the original argument of Foias-Saut, thereby, increasing its adaptability to other d…
It is well known that the Prandtl boundary layer equation is instable, and the well-posedness in Sobolev space for the Cauchy problem is an open problem. Recently, under the Oleinik's monotonicity assumption for the initial datum, [1] have proved the local well-posedness of Cauchy problem in Sobolev space (see also [21]). In this work, we study the Gevrey smoothing effects of the local solution obtained in [1]. We prove that the Sobolev's class solution belongs to some Gevrey class with respect to tangential variables at any positive time.
In this paper we study the weighted Gevrey class regularity of Euler equation in the whole space R 3. We first establish the local existence of Euler equation in weighted Sobolev space, then obtain the weighted Gevrey regularity of Euler equation. We will use the weighted Sobolev-Gevrey space method to obtain the results of Gevrey regularity of Euler equation, and the use of the property of singular operator in the estimate of the pressure term is the improvement of our work.
We show that the fifth-order Kadomtsev-Petviashvili II equation is globally well-posed in an anisotropic Gevrey space, which complements earlier results on the well-posedness of this equation in anisotropic Sobolev spaces.
After defining classical weighted modulation spaces we show some basic properties. In this work we additionally choose an approach in terms of the frequency-uniform decomposition and a discussion on the weights of modulation spaces leads to a definition of Gevrey-modulation spaces, where we leave the Sobolev frame and proceed to the Gevrey frame in order to get better results. We prove that Gevrey-modulation spaces are algebras under multiplication. Moreover, we obtain a non-analytic superposition result which gives rise to discuss the possibility to apply Gevrey-modulation spaces to non-linea…
In a recent article Jia established linear inviscid damping in Gevrey regularity for compactly supported Gevrey regular shear flows in a finite channel, which is of great interest in view of existing nonlinear results. In this article we provide an alternative very short proof of stability in Gevrey regularity as a consequence of stability in high Sobolev regularity. Here, we consider both the setting of a finite channel with compactly supported perturbations and of an infinite channel without this restriction. Furthermore, we consider the setting where perturbations vanish only of finite orde…
In this paper we prove that the Cauchy problem for first-order quasi-linear systems of partial differential equations is ill-posed in Gevrey spaces, under the assumption of an initial ellipticity. The assumption bears on the principal symbol of the first-order operator. Ill-posedness means instability in the sense of Hadamard, specifically an instantaneous defect of Hölder continuity of the flow from $G^σ$ to $L^2$, where $σ\in(0,1)$ depends on the initial spectrum. Building on the analysis carried out by G. Métivier [\textit{Remarks on the well-posedness of the nonlinear Cauchy problem}, Cont…
Motivated by \cite{DG19}, we prove the global existence and large time behavior of small solutions to 2-D Prandtl system for data with Gevrey 2 regularity in the $x$ variable and Sobolev regularity in the $y$ variable. In particular, we extend the global well-posedness result in \cite{PZ5} for 2-D Prandtl system with analytic data to data with optimal Gevery regularity in the sense of \cite{Ger1}.
The present paper analyzes a spectral regularization of a time-reversed reaction-diffusion problem with globally and locally Lipschitz nonlinearities. This type of inverse and ill-posed problems arises in a variety of real-world applications concerning heat conduction and tumour source localization. In accordance with the weak solvability result for the forward problem, we focus on the inverse problem with high-order Sobolev-Gevrey smoothness and with Sobolev measurements. As expected from the well-known results for the linear case, we prove that this nonlinear spectral regularization possesse…
In the paper, we study the Prandtl system with initial data admitting non-degenerate critical points. For any index $σ\in[3/2, 2],$ we obtain the local in time well-posedness in the space of Gevrey class $G^σ$ in the tangential variable and Sobolev class in the normal variable so that the monotonicity condition on the tangential velocity is not needed to overcome the loss of tangential derivative. This answers the open question raised in the paper of D. Gérard-Varet and N. Masmoudi [{\it Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér}. (4) 48 (2015), no. 6, 1273-1325], in which the case $σ=7/4$ is solved.
In this paper, we study local well-posedness for the Navier-Stokes equations (NSE) with the arbitrary initial value in homogeneous Sobolev-Lorentz spaces $\dot{H}^s_{L^{q, r}}(\mathbb{R}^d):= (-Δ)^{-s/2}L^{q,r}$ for $d \geq 2, q > 1, s \geq 0$, $1 \leq r \leq \infty$, and $ \frac{d}{q}-1 \leq s < \frac{d}{q}$, this result improves the known results for $q > d,r=q, s = 0$ (see M. Cannone (1995) and M. Cannone and Y. Meyer (1995)) and for $q =r= 2, \frac{d}{2} - 1 < s < \frac{d}{2}$ (see M. Cannone (1995, J. M. Chemin (1992)). In the case of critical indexes ($s=\frac{d}{q}-1$), we prove global …
Large scale dynamics of the oceans and the atmosphere are governed by the primitive equations (PEs). It is well-known that the three-dimensional viscous PEs is globally well-posed in Sobolev spaces. On the other hand, the inviscid PEs without rotation is known to be ill-posed in Sobolev spaces, and its smooth solutions can form singularity in finite time. In this paper, we extend the above results in the presence of rotation. First, we construct finite-time blowup solutions to the inviscid PEs with rotation, and establish that the inviscid PEs with rotation is ill-posed in Sobolev spaces in th…
In this manuscript, we study the theory of conformal relativistic viscous hydrodynamics introduced in arXiv:1708.06255, which provided a causal and stable first-order theory of relativistic fluids with viscosity. The local well-posedness of its equations of motion has been previously established in Gevrey spaces. Here, we improve this result by proving local well-posedness in Sobolev spaces.
We investigate the stability of boundary layer solutions of the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. We consider shear flow solutions of Prandtl type : $$ u^ν(t,x,y) \, = \, \big (U^E(t,y) + U^{BL}(t,\frac{y}{\sqrtν})\,, \, 0 \big )\, , \quad 0<ν\ll 1\,. $$ We show that if $U^{BL}$ is monotonic and concave in $Y = y /\sqrtν$ then $u^ν$ is stable over some time interval $(0,T)$, $T$ independent of $ν$, under perturbations with Gevrey regularity in $x$ and Sobolev regularity in $y$. We improve in this way the classical stability results of Sammartino and Caflisch in analytic c…
This paper studies the dissipative generalized surface quasi-geostrophic equations in a supercritical regime where the order of the dissipation is small relative to order of the velocity, and the velocities are less regular than the advected scalar by up to one order of derivative. We also consider a non-degenerate modification of the endpoint case in which the velocity is less smooth than the advected scalar by slightly more than one order. The existence and uniqueness theory of these equations in the borderline Sobolev spaces is addressed, as well as the instantaneous smoothing effect of the…
In \cite{YZ}, the author proved the global existence of the two-dimensional anisotropic quasi-geostrophic equations with condition on the parameters $α,$ $β$ in the Sobolev spaces $H^s( \R^2)$; $s\geq 2$. In this paper, we show that this equations has a global solution in the spaces $H^s(\R^2)$, where $\max\{2-2α,2-2β\}< s<2$, with additional condition over $α$ and $β$. The proof is based on the Gevrey-class regularity of the solution in neighborhood of zero.
We consider the incompressible Euler equations on ${\mathbb R}^d$, where $d \in \{ 2,3 \}$. We prove that: (a) In Lagrangian coordinates the equations are locally well-posed in spaces with fixed real-analyticity radius (more generally, a fixed Gevrey-class radius). (b) In Lagrangian coordinates the equations are well-posed in highly anisotropic spaces, e.g.~Gevrey-class regularity in the label $a_1$ and Sobolev regularity in the labels $a_2,...,a_d$. (c) In Eulerian coordinates both results (a) and (b) above are false.
We show the $H^1$ stability of shear flows of Prandtl type: $U^ν= (U_s(y/\sqrtν),0)$, in the steady two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations, under the natural assumptions that $U_s(Y) > 0$ for $Y > 0$, $U_s(0) = 0$, and $U_s'(0) > 0$. Our result is in sharp contrast with the unsteady ones, in which at most Gevrey stability can be obtained, even under global monotonicity and concavity hypotheses. It provides the first positive answer to the inviscid limit problem in Sobolev regularity for a non-trivial class of steady Navier-Stokes flows with no-slip boundary condition.
We study the theory of relativistic viscous hydrodynamics introduced in arXiv:1109.0985 and arXiv:1907.12695, which provided a causal and stable first-order theory of relativistic fluids with viscosity in the case of barotropic fluids. The local well-posedness of its equations of motion has been previously established in Gevrey spaces. Here, we improve this result by proving local well-posedness in Sobolev spaces.
In this paper, we study the super-critical Quasi-Geostrophic equation in Gevrey-Sobolev space. We prove the local existence of $(QG)$ for any large initial data and we give an exponential type of Blow-up to the solution. Moreover, we establish the existence global for a small initial data and we show that $\|θ\|_{H^s_{a, α^{-1}}}$ decays to zero as time goes to infinity. Fourier analysis and standard techniques are used.
We consider linear and non-linear Cauchy equations in the context of Sobolev spaces. In particular, we show the global existence of solutions to the Kirchhoff equation with initial data in the Sobolev spaces, a problem that has been open for more than eighty years. Our proof is based on a new uniform estimate for solutions to the linear equation with time-dependent coefficient and a fixed point argument. As an immediate consequence of our result, the global solvability of the Kirchhoff equation with initial data in the Gevrey spaces is also obtained.
We prove that the theorem of Mouhot and Villani on Landau damping near equilibrium for the Vlasov-Poisson equations on $\mathbb{T}_x \times \mathbb{R}_v$ cannot, in general, be extended to high Sobolev spaces in the case of gravitational interactions. This is done by showing in every Sobolev space, there exists background distributions such that one can construct arbitrarily small perturbations that exhibit arbitrarily many isolated nonlinear oscillations in the density. These oscillations are known as plasma echoes in the physics community. For the case of electrostatic interactions, we demon…
In this paper we consider a semiclassical version of the wave equations with singular Hölder time-dependent propagation speeds on the lattice $\hbar\mathbb{Z}^{n}$. We allow the propagation speed to vanish leading to the weakly hyperbolic nature of the equations. Curiously, very much contrary to the Euclidean case considered by Colombini, de Giorgi and Spagnolo [2] and by other authors, the Cauchy problem, in this case, is well-posed in $\ell^2(\hbar\mathbb{Z}^{n})$. However, we also recover the well-posedness results in the intersection of certain Gevrey and Sobolev spaces in the limit of the…
We study the initial value problem for Schrödinger-type equations with initial data presenting a certain Gevrey regularity and an exponential behavior at infinity. We assume the lower order terms of the Schrödinger operator depending on $(t,x)\in[0,T]\times\R^n$ and complex valued. Under a suitable decay condition as $|x|\to\infty$ on the imaginary part of the first order term and an algebraic growth assumption on the real part, we derive global energy estimates in suitable Sobolev spaces of infinite order and prove a well posedness result in Gelfand-Shilov type spaces. We also discuss by exam…
The Navier-Stokes equations for viscous, incompressible fluids are studied in the three-dimensional periodic domains, with the body force having an asymptotic expansion, when time goes to infinity, in terms of power-decaying functions in a Sobolev-Gevrey space. Any Leray-Hopf weak solution is proved to have an asymptotic expansion of the same type in the same space, which is uniquely determined by the force, and independent of the individual solutions. In case the expansion is convergent, we show that the next asymptotic approximation for the solution must be an exponential decay. Furthermore,…
We study the long-time dynamics of the Navier-Stokes equations in the three-dimensional periodic domains with a body force decaying in time. We introduce appropriate systems of decaying functions and corresponding asymptotic expansions in those systems. We prove that if the force has a large-time asymptotic expansion in Gevrey-Sobolev spaces in such a general system, then any Leray-Hopf weak solution admits an asymptotic expansion of the same type. This expansion is uniquely determined by the force, and independent of the solutions. Various applications of the abstract results are provided whi…
We consider a one-parameter family of beam equations with Hamiltonian non-linearity in one space dimension under periodic boundary conditions. In a unified functional framework we study the long time evolution of initial data in two categories of differentiability: (i) a subspace of Sobolev regularity, (ii) a subspace of infinitely many differentiable functions which is strictly contained in the Sobolev space but which strictly contains the Gevrey one. In both cases we prove exponential type times of stability. The result holds for almost all mass parameters and it is obtained by combining nor…
We investigate an abstract wave equation with a time-dependent propagation speed, and we consider both the non-dissipative case, and the case with a strong damping that depends on a power of the elastic operator. Previous results show that, depending on the values of the parameters and on the time regularity of the propagation speed, this equation exhibits either well-posedness in Sobolev spaces, or well-posedness in Gevrey spaces, or ill-posedness with severe derivative loss. In this paper we examine some critical cases that were left open by the previous literature, and we show that they fal…
The long time behavior of Wong-Zakai approximations of 2D as well as 3D non-autonomous stochastic convective Brinkman-Forchheimer (CBF) equations with non-linear diffusion terms on bounded and unbounded ($\mathbb{R}^d$ for $d=2,3$) domains is discussed in this work. To establish the existence of random pullback attractors, the concept of asymptotic compactness (AC) is used. In bounded domains, AC is proved via compact Sobolev embeddings. In unbounded domains, due to the lack of compact embeddings, the ideas of energy equations and uniform tail estimates are exploited to prove AC. In the litera…
We study the long-time behavior of spatially periodic solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations in the three-dimensional space. The body force is assumed to possess an asymptotic expansion or, resp., finite asymptotic approximation, in either Sobolev or Gevrey spaces, as time tends to infinity, in terms of polynomial and decaying exponential functions of time. We establish an asymptotic expansion, or resp., finite asymptotic approximation, of the same type for the Leray-Hopf weak solutions. This extends the previous results, obtained in the case of potential forces, to the non-potential force c…
We study the long time asymptotic behavior of the inviscid magnetohydrodynamic equations with magnetic dissipation near a combination of Couette flow and a constant magnetic field. Here we show that there exist nearby explicit global in time low frequency solutions, which we call waves. Moreover, the linearized problem around these waves exhibits resonances under high frequency perturbations, called echoes, which result in norm inflation Gevrey regularity and infinite time blow-up in Sobolev regularity.
We prove Landau damping for the collisionless Vlasov equation with a class of $L^1$ interaction potentials (including the physical case of screened Coulomb interactions) on $\mathbb R^3_x \times \mathbb R^3_v$ for localized disturbances of an infinite, homogeneous background. Unlike the confined case $\mathbb T^3_x \times \mathbb R_v^3$, results are obtained for initial data in Sobolev spaces (as well as Gevrey and analytic classes). For spatial frequencies bounded away from zero, the Landau damping of the density is similar to the confined case. The finite regularity is possible due to an add…
The long-time behavior of solutions of the three-dimensional Navier--Stokes equations in a periodic domain is studied. The time-dependent body force decays, as time $t$ tends to infinity, in a coherent manner. In fact, it is assumed to have a general and complicated asymptotic expansion which involves complex powers of $e^t$, $t$, $\ln t$, or other iterated logarithmic functions of $t$. We prove that all Leray-Hopf weak solutions admit an asymptotic expansion which is independent of the solutions and is uniquely determined by the asymptotic expansion of the body force. The proof makes use of t…
We study the asymptotic behavior of the forced linear Euler and nonlinear Navier-Stokes equations close to Couette flow in a periodic channel. As our main result we show that for smooth time-periodic forcing linear inviscid damping persists, i.e. the velocity field (weakly) asymptotically converges. However, stability and scattering to the transport problem fail in $H^{s}, s>-1$. We further show that this behavior is consistent with the nonlinear Euler equations and that a similar result also holds for the nonlinear Navier-Stokes equations. Hence, these results provide an indication that nonli…
In this paper, we study stationary structures near the planar Couette flow in Sobolev spaces on a channel $\mathbb{T}\times[-1,1]$, and asymptotic behavior of Couette flow in Gevrey spaces on $\mathbb{T}\times\mathbb{R}$ for the $β$-plane equation. Let $T>0$ be the horizontal period of the channel and $α={2π\over T}$ be the wave number. We obtain a sharp region $O$ in the whole $(α,β)$ half-plane such that non-parallel steadily traveling waves do not exist for $(α,β)\in O$ and such traveling waves exist for $(α,β)$ in the remaining regions, near Couette flow for $H^{\geq5}$ velocity perturbati…
