We investigate the initial value problem (IVP) associated to the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation (mKdV) in the defocusing scenario: \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{l} \partial_t u+ \partial_x^3u-u^2\partial_x(u) = 0, \quad x,t\in\mathbb{R}, \\ u(x,0) = u_0(x), \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} where $u$ is a real valued function and the initial data $u_0$ is analytic on $\mathbb{R}$ and has uniform radius of analyticity $σ_0$ in the spatial variable.
It is well-known that the solution $u$ preserves its analyticity with the same radius $σ_0$ for at least some time span $0<T_0\le 1$. This local result was obtained in [Nonlinear Differ. Equ. Appl. (2024), 31--68] by proving a trilinear estimate in the Gevrey spaces $G^{σ, s}$, $s\geq \frac14$. Global in time behaviour of the solution and algebraic lower bound of the evolution of the radius of analyticity was also studied in authors' earlier works in [Nonlinear Differ. Equ. Appl. (2024), 31--68] and [J. Evol. Equ. 24 No. 42 (2024)] by constructing almost conserved quantities in the classical Gevrey space with $H^1$ and $H^2$ levels of Sobolev regularities. The present study aims to construct a new almost conservation law in the Gevrey space defined with a weight function $\cosh(σ|ξ|)$ and use it demonstrate that the local solution $u$ extends globally in time, and the radius of spatial analyticity is bounded from below by $c T^{-\frac{1}{2}}$, for any time $T\geq T_0$. The outcome of this paper represents an improvement on the one achieved by the authors' previous work in [J. Evol. Equ. 24 No. 42 (2024)].
We present estimates for the radius of analyticity of solutions to the Korteweg-de Vries equation, which improve earlier results due to Bona, Grujić and Kalisch.
Lower bound on the rate of decrease in time of the uniform radius of spatial analyticity of solutions to the quartic generalized KdV equation is derived, which improves an earlier result by Bona, Grujić and Kalisch.
The radius of spatial analyticity for solutions of the KdV equation is studied. It is shown that the analyticity radius does not decay faster than $t^{-1/4}$ as time $t$ goes to infinity. This improves the works [Selberg, da Silva, Lower bounds on the radius of spatial analyticity for the KdV equation, Annales Henri Poincaré, 2017, 18(3): 1009-1023] and [Tesfahun, Asymptotic lower bound for the radius of spatial analtyicity to solutions of KdV equation, arXiv preprint arXiv:1707.07810, 2017]. Our strategy mainly relies on a higher order almost conservation law in Gevrey spaces, which is inspir…
We show that the uniform radius of spatial analyticity $σ(t)$ of solution at time $t$ for the fifth order KdV-BBM equation cannot decay faster than $1/t$ for large $t>0$, given initial data that is analytic with fixed radius $σ_0$. This significantly improves a recent result by Carvajal and Panthee, where they established an exponential decay of $σ(t)$ for large $t$.
We show that the uniform radius of spatial analyticity $σ(t)$ of solutions at time $t$ to the fifth order KdV-BBM equation cannot decay faster than $1/ \sqrt{t}$ for large $t$, given initial data that is analytic with fixed radius $σ_0$. This improves a recent result by Belayneh, Tegegn and the third author, where they obtained a $1/t$ decay of $σ(t)$ for large time $t$.
The solution of a coupled system consisting of generalized Korteweg-de Vries-type equations is obtained for all time where the initial data are analytic on a band in the complex plane. We show that the width of this band decreases algebraically with time.
We are concerned with the Cauchy problem for the KdV equation for nonsmooth locally integrable initial profiles q's which are, in a certain sense, essentially bounded from below and q(x)=O(e^{-cx^{ε}}),x\rightarrow+\infty, with some positive c and ε. Using the inverse scattering transform, we show that the KdV flow turns such initial data into a function which is (1) meromorphic (in the space variable) on the whole complex plane if ε>1/2, (2) meromorphic on a strip around the real line if ε=1/2, and (3) Gevrey regular if ε<1/2. Note that q's need not have any decay or pattern of behavior at -\…
It is shown that the uniform radius of spatial analyticity $σ(t)$ of solutions at time $t$ to the KdV equation cannot decay faster than $|t|^{-4/3}$ as $|t| \to \infty$ given initial data that is analytic with fixed radius $σ_0$. This improves a recent result of Selberg and Da Silva, where they proved a decay rate of $|t|^{-(4/3 + \varepsilon) }$ for arbitrarily small positive $\varepsilon$. The main ingredients in the proof are almost conservation law for the solution to the KdV equation in space of analytic functions and space-time dyadic bilinear $L^2$ estimates associated with the KdV equa…
In this paper, we study the problem of analyticity of smooth solutions of the inviscid Boussinesq equations. If the initial datum is real-analytic, the solution remains real-analytic on the existence interval. By an inductive method we can obtain lower bounds on the radius of spatial analyticity of the smooth solution.
In this paper we obtain lower bounds on the radius of spatial analyticity of solutions to the Kawahara equation $u_t + uu_x + αu_{xxx} + βu_{xxxxx} = 0$, $β\neq0$, given initial data which is analytic with a fixed radius. It is shown that the uniform radius of spatial analyticity of solutions at later time $t$ can decay no faster than $1/|t|$ as $|t|\rightarrow\infty$.
It is shown that the uniform radius of spatial analyticity $σ(t)$ of solutions at time $t$ to the 1d, 2d and 3d cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equations cannot decay faster than $1/|t|$ as $|t| \to \infty$, given initial data that is analytic with fixed radius $σ_0$.
In this paper we study spatial analyticity of solutions to the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equations $iu_t + Δu = |u|^{p-1}u$, given initial data which is analytic with fixed radius. It is shown that the uniform radius of spatial analyticity of solutions at later time $t$ cannot decay faster than $1/|t|$ as $|t|\rightarrow\infty$. This extends the previous work of Tesfahun for the cubic case $p=3$ to the cases where $p$ is any odd integer greater than $3$.
We study the well-posedness of the Dirac-Klein-Gordon system in one space dimension with initial data that have an analytic extension to a strip around the real axis. It is proved that the radius of analyticity of the solutions at time $t$ cannot decay faster than $1/t^4$ as $t$ tends to infinity.
We consider the Cauchy problem for an equation of Korteweg-de Vries-Kawahara type with initial data in the analytic Gevrey spaces. By using linear, bilinear and trilinear estimates in analytic Bourgain spaces, we establish the local well-posedness for this problem. By using an approximate conservation law, we extend this to a global result in such a way that the radius of analyticity of solutions is uniformly bounded below by a fixed positive number for all time.
We consider the initial value problem for the Dirac-Klein-Gordon equations in two space dimensions. Global regularity for $C^\infty$ data was proved by Grünrock and Pecher. Here we consider analytic data, proving that if the initial radius of analyticity is $σ_0 > 0$, then for later times $t > 0$ the radius of analyticity obeys a lower bound $σ(t) \ge σ_0 \exp(-At)$. This provides information about the possible dynamics of the complex singularities of the holomorphic extension of the solution at time $t$. The proof relies on an analytic version of Bourgain's Fourier restriction norm method, mu…
This paper sheds new light on the stability properties of solitary wave solutions associated with models of Korteweg-de Vries and Benjamin\&Bona\&Mahoney type, when the dispersion is very lower. Via an approach of compactness, analyticity and asymptotic perturbation theory, we establish sufficient conditions for the existence of exponentially growing solutions to the linearized problem and so a criterium of linear instability of solitary waves is obtained for both models. Moreover, the nonlinear stability and linear instability of the ground states solutions for both models is obtained for som…
In this paper, we study the persistence of spatial analyticity for the solutions to the Klein-Gordon-Schrödinger system, which describes a physical system of a nucleon field interacting with a neutral meson field, with analytic initial data. Unlike the case of a single nonlinear dispersive equation, not much is known about nonlinear dispersive systems as it is harder to show the spatial analyticity of coupled equations simultaneously. The only results known so far are rather recent ones for the Dirac-Klein-Gordon system which governs the physical system when the nucleon is described by Dirac s…
We study the radius of analyticity~$R(t)$ in space, of strong solutions to systems of scale-invariant semi-linear parabolic equations. It is well-known that near the initial time,~$R(t)t^{-\frac12}$ is bounded from below by a positive constant. In this paper we prove that~$\displaystyle\liminf_{t\rightarrow 0} R(t)t^{-\frac12}= \infty$, and assuming higher regularity for the initial data, we obtain an improved lower bound near time zero. As an application, we prove that for any global solution~$u\in C([0,\infty); H^{\frac12}(\R^3))$ of the Navier-Stokes equations, there holds~$\displaystyle\li…
This paper is concerned with the cubic Szegő equation $$ i\partial_t u=Π(|u|^2 u), $$ defined on the $L^2$ Hardy space on the one-dimensional torus $\mathbb T$, where $Π: L^2(\mathbb T)\rightarrow L^2_+(\mathbb T)$ is the Szegő projector onto the non-negative frequencies. For analytic initial data, it is shown that the solution remains spatial analytic for all time $t\in (-\infty,\infty)$. In addition, we find a lower bound for the radius of analyticity of the solution. Our method involves energy-like estimates of the special Gevrey class of analytic functions based on the $\ell^1$ norm of Fou…
A certain model for epitaxial film growth has recently attracted attention, with the existence of small global solutions having being proved in both the case of the n-dimensional torus and free space. We address a regularity question for these solutions, showing that in the case of the torus, the solutions become analytic at any positive time, with the radius of analyticity growing linearly for all time. As other authors have, we take the Laplacian of the initial data to be in the Wiener algebra, and we find an explicit smallness condition on the size of the data. Our particular condition on t…
Persistence of spatial analyticity is studied for solution of the beam equation $ u_{tt} + \left(m+Δ^2\right) u + |u|^{p-1}u = 0$ on $\mathbb R^n \times \mathbb R$. In particular, for a class of analytic initial data with a uniform radius of analyticity $σ_0$, we obtain an asymptotic lower bound $σ(t) \ge c/\sqrt t$ on the uniform radius of analyticity $σ(t)$ of solution $u(\cdot, t)$, as $t \rightarrow \infty.$
In this work we consider the initial value problem for the generalized Benjamin equation \begin{equation}\label{Benj-IVP} \begin{cases} \partial_t u-l\mathcal{H} \partial_x^2u-\partial_x^3u+u^p\partial_xu = 0, \quad x,\; t\in \mathbb{R};\;\;,\; p\geq 1, \\ u(x,0) = u_0(x), \end{cases} \end{equation} where $u=u(x,t)$ is a real valued function, $0<l<1$ and $\mathcal{H}$ is the Hilbert transform. This model was introduced by T. B. Benjamin (J. Fluid Mech. 245 (1992) 401--411) and describes unidirectional propagation of long waves in a two-fluid system where the lower fluid with greater density is…
We address the problem of analyticity up to the boundary of solutions to the Euler equations in the half space. We characterize the rate of decay of the real-analyticity radius of the solution $u(t)$ in terms of $\exp{\int_{0}^{t} \Vert \nabla u(s) \Vert_{L^\infty} ds}$, improving the previously known results. We also prove the persistence of the sub-analytic Gevrey-class regularity for the Euler equations in a half space, and obtain an explicit rate of decay of the radius of Gevrey-class regularity.
Lei and Lin have recently given a proof of a global mild solution of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations in function spaces based on the Wiener algebra. An alternative proof of existence of these solutions was then developed by Bae, and this new proof allowed for an estimate of the radius of analyticity of the solutions at positive times. We adapt the Bae proof to prove existence of the Lei-Lin solution in the spatially periodic setting, finding an improved bound for the radius of analyticity in this case.
There is little analytical theory for the behavior of solutions of the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation in two spatial dimensions over long times. We study the case in which the spatial domain is a two-dimensional torus. In this case, the linearized behavior depends on the size of the torus -- in particular, for different sizes of the domain, there are different numbers of linearly growing modes. We prove that small solutions exist for all time if there are no linearly growing modes, proving also in this case that the radius of analyticity of solutions grows linearly in time. In the general case …

We consider the Euler equations in a three-dimensional Gevrey-class bounded domain. Using Lagrangian coordinates we obtain the Gevrey-class persistence of the solution, up to the boundary, with an explicit estimate on the rate of decay of the Gevrey-class regularity radius.
We study the problem of propagation of analytic regularity for semi-linear symmetric hyperbolic systems. We adopt a global perspective and we prove that if the initial datum extends to a holomorphic function in a strip of radius (=width) ε_0, the same happens for the solution u(t,.) for a certain radius ε(t), as long as the solution exists. Our focus is on precise lower bounds on the spatial radius of analyticity ε(t) as t grows. We also get similar results for the Schroedinger equation with a real-analytic electromagnetic potential.
We consider the Euler equations on $\mathbb{T}^d$ with analytic data and prove lower bounds for the radius of spatial analyticity $ε(t)$ of the solution using a new method based on inductive estimates in standard Sobolev spaces. Our results are consistent with similar previous results proved by Kukavica and Vicol, but give a more precise dependence of $ε(t)$ on the radius of analyticity of the initial datum.
We consider the inhomogeneous heat equation on the half-space $\mathbb R_{+}^{d}$ with Neumann boundary conditions. We prove a space-time Gevrey regularity of the solution, with a radius of analyticity uniform up to the boundary of the half-space. We also address the case of homogeneous Robin boundary conditions. Our results generalize the case of homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions established by Kukavica and Vicol in [10].
In this paper, we study quantitative spatial analytic bounds and unique continuation inequalities of solutions for fractional heat equations with an analytic lower order term on the whole space. At first, we show that the solution has a uniform positive analytic radius for all time, and the solution enjoys a log-type ultra-analytic bound if the coefficient is ultra-analytic. Second, we prove a Hölder type interpolation inequality on a thick set, with an explicit dependence on the analytic radius of coefficient. Finally, by the telescoping series method, we establish an observability inequality…
We address the analyticity and large time decay rates for strong solutions of the Hall-MHD equations. By Gevrey estimates, we show that the strong solution with small initial date in $H^r(\mathbb{R}^3)$ with $r>\f 52$ becomes analytic immediately after $t>0$, and the radius of analyticity will grow like $\sqrt{t}$ in time. Upper and lower bounds on the decay of higher order derivatives are also obtained, which extends the previous work by Chae and Schonbek (J. Differential Equations 255 (2013), 3971--3982).
In this paper, we show the optimal decay rate estimates of the space-time derivatives and the joint space-time analyticity of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations. As it is known from the Hartogs's theorem, for a complex function with two complex variables, the joint analyticity with respect to two variables can be derived from combining of analyticity with respect to each variable. However, as a function of two real variables for space and time, the joint space-time analyticity of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations cannot be directly obtained from the combination of space analyticit…
We study spatial analyticity properties of solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations and obtain new growth rate estimates for the analyticity radius. We also study stability properties of strong global solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations with data in H^r, r greater or equal 1/2, and prove a stability result for the analyticity radius.
We study the persistence of the Gevrey class regularity of solutions to nonlinear wave equations with real analytic nonlinearity. Specifically, it is proven that the solution remains in a Gevrey class, with respect to some of its spatial variables, during its whole life-span, provided the initial data is from the same Gevrey class with respect to these spatial variables. In addition, for the special Gevrey class of analytic functions, we find a lower bound for the radius of the spatial analyticity of the solution that might shrink either algebraically or exponentially, in time, depending on th…
The forced and weakly damped Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation with periodic boundary conditions is considered. Starting from $L^2$ and mean-zero initial data we prove that the solution decomposes into two parts; a linear one which decays to zero as time goes to infinity and a nonlinear one which always belongs to a smoother space. As a corollary we prove that all solutions are attracted by a ball in $H^s$, $s\in(0,1)$, whose radius depends only on $s$, the $L^2$ norm of the forcing term and the damping parameter. This gives a new proof for the existence of a smooth global attractor and provide…
Based on some elementary estimates for the space-time derivatives of the heat kernel, we use a bootstrapping approach to establish the optimal decay rates for the $L^q(\mathbb{R}^d)$ ($1\leq q\leq\infty$, $d\in\mathbb{N}$) norm of the space-time derivatives of solutions to the (modified) Patlak-Keller-Segel equations with initial data in $L^1(\mathbb{R}^d)$, which implies the joint space-time analyticity of solutions. When the $L^1(\mathbb{R}^d)$ norm of the initial datum is small, the upper bound for the decay estimates is global in time, which yields a lower bound on the growth rate of the r…
We address the global persistence of analyticity and Gevrey-class regularity of solutions to the two and three-dimensional visco-elastic second-grade fluid equations. We obtain an explicit novel lower bound on the radius of analyticity of the solutions to the second-grade fluid equations that does not vanish as $t\to \infty$. Applications to the damped Euler equations are given.
We obtain a logarithmically sharp estimate for the space-analyticity radius of the solutions of the damped-driven 2D Navier-Stokes equations with periodic boundary conditions and relate this to the small scales in this system. This system is inspired by the Stommel--Charney barotropic ocean circulation model.
We study the effect of the fast rotation and vertical viscosity on the lifespan of solutions to the three-dimensional primitive equations (also known as the hydrostatic Navier-Stokes equations) with impermeable and stress-free boundary conditions. Firstly, for a short time interval, independent of the rate of rotation $|Ω|$, we establish the local well-posedness of solutions with initial data that is analytic in the horizontal variables and only $L^2$ in the vertical variable. Moreover, it is shown that the solutions immediately become analytic in all the variables with increasing-in-time (at …
This paper is devoted to the spatial analyticity of the solution of the BBM equation on the real line with an analytic initial data. It is shown that the analytic radius has a lower bound like $t^{-\frac{2}{3}}$ as time $t$ goes to infinity, which is an improvement of previous results. The main new ingredient is a higher order almost conservation law in analytic spaces. This is proved by introducing an equivalent analytic norm with smooth symbol and establishing some algebra identities of higher order polynomials.
We present a rigorous theory of a unified and simple inverse scattering transform (IST) for both focusing and defocusing real nonlocal (reverse-space-time) modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equations with non-zero boundary conditions (NZBCs) at infinity. The IST problems for the nonlocal equations with NZBCs are more complicated then ones for the local equations with NZBCs. The suitable uniformization variable is introduced in order to make the direct and inverse problems be established on a complex plane instead of a two-sheeted Riemann surface. The direct scattering problem establishes the a…
We consider the incompressible Euler equations on ${\mathbb R}^d$, where $d \in \{ 2,3 \}$. We prove that: (a) In Lagrangian coordinates the equations are locally well-posed in spaces with fixed real-analyticity radius (more generally, a fixed Gevrey-class radius). (b) In Lagrangian coordinates the equations are well-posed in highly anisotropic spaces, e.g.~Gevrey-class regularity in the label $a_1$ and Sobolev regularity in the labels $a_2,...,a_d$. (c) In Eulerian coordinates both results (a) and (b) above are false.
