We address the problem of analyticity up to the boundary of solutions to the Euler equations in the half space. We characterize the rate of decay of the real-analyticity radius of the solution $u(t)$ in terms of $\exp{\int_{0}^{t} \Vert \nabla u(s) \Vert_{L^\infty} ds}$, improving the previously known results. We also prove the persistence of the sub-analytic Gevrey-class regularity for the Euler equations in a half space, and obtain an explicit rate of decay of the radius of Gevrey-class regularity.
We consider the Euler equations in a three-dimensional Gevrey-class bounded domain. Using Lagrangian coordinates we obtain the Gevrey-class persistence of the solution, up to the boundary, with an explicit estimate on the rate of decay of the Gevrey-class regularity radius.
We give a proof of the analiticity in time for the particle trajectories associated with the solutions of some transport equations when the initial datum is a patch. These results are obtained from a precise study of the Beurling transform, which provides estimates for the solutions of some new equations satisfied by the lagrangian flow.
We consider the inhomogeneous heat equation on the half-space $\mathbb R_{+}^{d}$ with Neumann boundary conditions. We prove a space-time Gevrey regularity of the solution, with a radius of analyticity uniform up to the boundary of the half-space. We also address the case of homogeneous Robin boundary conditions. Our results generalize the case of homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions established by Kukavica and Vicol in [10].
We prove the time analyticity for weak solutions of inhomogeneous parabolic equations with measurable coefficients in the half space with either the Dirichlet boundary condition or the conormal boundary condition under the assumption that the solution and the source term have the exponential growth of order $2$ with respect to the space variables. We also obtain the time analyticity for bounded mild solutions of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in the half space with the Dirichlet boundary condition. Our work is an extension of the recent work by Zhang [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 148 (20…
Certain systems of inviscid fluid dynamics have the property that for solutions that are only slightly better than differentiable in Eulerian variables, the corresponding Lagrangian trajectories are analytic in time. We elucidate the mechanisms in fluid dynamics systems that give rise to this automatic Lagrangian analyticity, as well as mechanisms in some particular fluids systems which prevent it from occurring. We give a conceptual argument for a general fluids model which shows that the fulfillment of a basic set of criteria results in the analyticity of the trajectory maps in time. We then…
We consider the Euler equations on $\mathbb{T}^d$ with analytic data and prove lower bounds for the radius of spatial analyticity $ε(t)$ of the solution using a new method based on inductive estimates in standard Sobolev spaces. Our results are consistent with similar previous results proved by Kukavica and Vicol, but give a more precise dependence of $ε(t)$ on the radius of analyticity of the initial datum.
We show that solutions to a large class of inviscid equations, in Eulerian variables, extend as holomorphic functions of time, with values in a Gevrey class (thus space-analytic), and are solutions of complexified versions of the said equations. The class of equations we consider includes those of fluid dynamics such as the Euler, surface quasi-geostrophic, Boussinesq and magnetohydrodynamic equations, as well as other equations with analytic nonlinearities. The initial data are assumed to belong to a $\mathit{Gevrey\:class}$, i.e., analytic in the space variable. Our technique follows that of…
We study the Cauchy problem for the quasi-geostrophic equations with the critical dissipation in the two dimensional half space under the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition. We show the global existence, the uniqueness and the analyticity of solutions, and the real analyticity up to the boundary is obtained. We will show one of natural ways to estimate the nonlinear term for functions satisfying the Dirichlet boundary condition.
We address the global persistence of analyticity and Gevrey-class regularity of solutions to the two and three-dimensional visco-elastic second-grade fluid equations. We obtain an explicit novel lower bound on the radius of analyticity of the solutions to the second-grade fluid equations that does not vanish as $t\to \infty$. Applications to the damped Euler equations are given.
The 3D incompressible Euler equation is an important research topic in the mathematical study of fluid dynamics. Not only is the global regularity for smooth initial data an open issue, but the behaviour may also depend on the presence or absence of boundaries. For a good understanding, it is crucial to carry out, besides mathematical studies, high-accuracy and well-resolved numerical exploration. Such studies can be very demanding in computational resources, but recently it has been shown that very substantial gains can be achieved first, by using Cauchy's Lagrangian formulation of the Euler …
We consider the incompressible Euler equations on ${\mathbb R}^d$, where $d \in \{ 2,3 \}$. We prove that: (a) In Lagrangian coordinates the equations are locally well-posed in spaces with fixed real-analyticity radius (more generally, a fixed Gevrey-class radius). (b) In Lagrangian coordinates the equations are well-posed in highly anisotropic spaces, e.g.~Gevrey-class regularity in the label $a_1$ and Sobolev regularity in the labels $a_2,...,a_d$. (c) In Eulerian coordinates both results (a) and (b) above are false.
We discuss general incompressible inviscid models, including the Euler equations, the surface quasi-geostrophic equation, incompressible porous medium equation, and Boussinesq equations. All these models have classical unique solutions, at least for short time. We show that they have real analytic Lagrangian paths. More precisely, we show that as long as a solution of any of these equations is in a class of regularity that assures Hölder continuous gradients of velocity, the corresponding Lagrangian paths are real analytic functions of time. The method of proof is conceptually straightforward …
We establish the validity of the Euler$+$Prandtl approximation for solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations in the half plane with Dirichlet boundary conditions, in the vanishing viscosity limit, for initial data which are analytic only near the boundary, and Sobolev smooth away from the boundary. Our proof does not require higher order correctors, and works directly by estimating an $L^{1}$-type norm for the vorticity of the error term in the expansion Navier-Stokes$-($Euler$+$Prandtl$)$. An important ingredient in the proof is the propagation of local analyticity for the Euler equation, a re…
We study the subsonic flows governed by full Euler equations in the half plane bounded below by a piecewise smooth curve asymptotically approaching x1-axis. Nonconstant conditions in the far field are prescribed to ensure the real Euler flows. The Euler system is reduced to a single elliptic equation for the stream function. The existence, uniqueness and asymptotic behaviors of the solutions for the reduced equation are established by Schauder fixed point argument and some delicate estimates. The existence of subsonic flows for the original Euler system is proved based on the results for the r…
A new proof is given of the fact that the particle trajectories of the ideal incompressible fluid are analytic curves, though the solutions of the Euler equations may have a finite regularity. This is a consequence of a general fact that the geodesic exponential map on the group of volume preserving diffeomorphisms belonging to the Sobolev space is real-analytic. The proof is based on the general properties of holomorphic maps in complex Banach spaces.
In this article we study the limit when $α\to 0$ of solutions to the $α$-Euler system in the half-plane, with no-slip boundary conditions, to weak solutions of the 2D incompressible Euler equations with non-negative initial vorticity in the space of bounded Radon measures in $H^{-1}$. This result extends the analysis done in arXiv:1611.05300 and arXiv:1403.5682. It requires a substantially distinct approach, analogous to that used for Delort's Theorem, and a new detailed investigation of the relation between (no-slip) filtered velocity and potential vorticity in the half-plane.
In this work we prove the weighted Gevrey regularity of solutions to the incompressible Euler equation with initial data decaying polynomially at infinity. This is motivated by the well-posedness problem of vertical boundary layer equation for fast rotating fluid. The method presented here is based on the basic weighted $L^2$- estimate, and the main difficulty arises from the estimate on the pressure term due to the appearance of weight function.
This paper is concerned with the initial-boundary value problem on the full Euler-Poisson system for ions over a half line. We establish the existence of stationary solutions under the Bohm criterion similar to the isentropic case and further obtain the large time asymptotic stability of small-amplitude stationary solutions provided that the initial perturbation is sufficiently small in some weighted Sobolev spaces. Moreover, the convergence rate of the solution toward the stationary solution is obtained. The proof is based on the energy method. A key point is to capture the positivity of the …

Starting from the local-in-time classical solution to the compressible Euler system with impermeable boundary condition in half-space, by employing the coupled weak viscous layers (governed by linearized compressible Prandtl equations with Robin boundary condition) and linear kinetic boundary layers, and the analytical tools in \cite{Guo-Jang-Jiang-2010-CPAM} and some new boundary estimates both for Prandtl and Knudsen layers, we proved the local-in-time existence of Hilbert expansion type classical solutions to the scaled Boltzmann equation with Maxwell reflection boundary condition with acco…
In this paper we shall consider the Navier-Stokes equations in the half plane with Euler-type initial conditions, i.e. initial conditions which have a non-zero tangential component at the boundary. Under analyticity assumptions for the data, we shall prove that the solution exists for a small time independent of the viscosity. The solution is constructed through a composite asymptotic expansion involving the solutions of the Euler and Prandtl equations, plus an error term. The norm of the error goes to zero with the square root of the viscosity. The Prandtl solution contains a singular term, w…
The Onsager's conjecture has two parts: conservation of energy, if the exponent is larger than $1/3$ and the possibility of dissipative Euler solutions, if the exponent is less or equal than $1/3$. The paper proves half of the conjecture, the conservation part, in bounded domains.
We address the Mach limit problem for the Euler equations in an exterior domain with analytic boundary. We first prove the existence of tangential analytic vector fields for the exterior domain with constant analyticity radii, and introduce an analytic norm in which we distinguish derivatives taken from different directions. Then we prove the uniform boundedness of the solutions in the analytic space on a time interval independent of the Mach number, and Mach limit holds in the analytic norm. The results extends more generally to Gevrey initial data with convergence in a Gevrey norm.
This paper is devoted to the study of the Stokes and Navier-Stokes equations, in a half-space, for initial data in a class of locally uniform Lebesgue integrable functions, namely $L^q_{uloc,σ}(\R^d_+)$. We prove the analyticity of the Stokes semigroup $e^{-t{\bf A}}$ in $L^q_{uloc,σ}(\R^d_+)$ for $1<q\leq\infty$. This follows from the analysis of the Stokes resolvent problem for data in $L^q_{uloc,σ}(\R^d_+)$, $1<q\leq\infty$. We then prove bilinear estimates for the Oseen kernel, which enables to prove the existence of mild solutions. The three main original aspects of our contribution are: …
We present a technique for derivation of a priori bounds for Gevrey-Sobolev norms of space-periodic three-dimensional solutions to evolutionary partial differential equations of hydrodynamic type. It involves a transformation of the flow velocity in the Fourier space, which introduces a feedback between the index of the norm and the norm of the transformed solution, and results in emergence of a mildly dissipative term. To illustrate the technique, we derive finite-time bounds for Gevrey-Sobolev norms of solutions to the Euler and inviscid Burgers equations, and global in time bounds for the V…
A basic example of shear flow was introduced by DiPerna and Majda to study the weak limit of oscillatory solutions of the Euler equations of incompressible ideal fluids. In particular, they proved by means of this example that weak limit of solutions of Euler equations may, in some cases, fail to be a solution of Euler equations. We use this shear flow example to provide non-generic, yet nontrivial, examples concerning the loss of smoothness of solutions of the three-dimensional Euler equations, for initial data that do not belong to $C^{1,α}$. Moreover, we show by means of this shear flow exa…
It is well known that the incompressible Euler equations in two dimensions have globally regular solutions. The inviscid surface quasi-geostrophic (SQG) equation has a Biot-Savart law which is one derivative less regular than in the Euler case, and the question of global regularity for its solutions is still open. We study here the patch dynamics in the half-plane for a family of active scalars which interpolates between these two equations, via a parameter $α\in[0,\frac 12]$ appearing in the kernels of their Biot-Savart laws. The values $α=0$ and $α=\frac 12$ correspond to the 2D Euler and SQ…
In this paper, we establish some Stein-Weiss type inequalities with general kernels on the upper half space and study the existence of extremal functions for this inequality with the optimal constant. Furthermore, we also investigate the regularity, asymptotic estimates, symmetry and non-existence results of the positive solutions of the corresponding Euler-Lagrange integral system. As an application, we finally derive some Liouville type results for the Hartree type equations in the half space.

We consider the zero viscosity limit of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with non-slip boundary condition in the half-space for the initial vorticity located away from the boundary. By using the vorticity formulation and Cauchy-Kowaleskaya theorem, Maekawa proved the local in time convergence of the Navier-Stokes equations in the half- plane to the Euler equations outside a boundary layer and to the Prandtl equations in the boundary layer. In this paper, we develop the direct energy method to generalize Maekawa's result to the half-space.
Boundary effects play an important role in the study of hydrodynamic limits in the Boltzmann theory. Based on a systematic derivation and study of the viscous layer equations and the $L^2$ to $L^\infty$ framework, we establish the validity of the Hilbert expansion for the Boltzmann equation with specular reflection boundary conditions, which leads to derivations of compressible Euler equations and acoustic equations.
We consider four types of representations of solutions of GKZ system: series representations, Laplace integral representations, Euler integral representations, and Residue integral representations which will be introduced in this paper. In the former half of this paper, we provide a method for constructing integration cycles for Laplace, Residue, and Euler integral representations and relate them to series representations. In the latter half, we reformulate our integral representations in terms of direct images of $D$-modules and show their equivalence.
In this paper, we derive sharp bounds on the semigroup of the linearized incompressible Navier-Stokes equations near a stationary shear layer in the half plane and in the half space ($\mathbb{R}_+^2$ or $\mathbb{R}_+^3$), with Dirichlet boundary conditions, assuming that this shear layer in spectrally unstable for Euler equations. In the inviscid limit, due to the prescribed no-slip boundary conditions, vorticity becomes unbounded near the boundary. The novelty of this paper is to introduce boundary layer norms that capture the unbounded vorticity and to derive sharp estimates on this vorticit…

The derivation of different models of non linear acoustic in thermo-ellastic media as the Kuznetsov equation, the Khokhlov-Zabolotskaya-Kuznetsov (KZK) equation and the Nonlinear Progressive wave Equation (NPE) from an isentropic Navier-Stokes/Euler system is systematized using the Hilbert type expansion in the corresponding perturbative and (for the KZK and NPE equations) paraxial ansatz . The use of small, to compare to the constant state perturbations, correctors allows to obtain the approximation results for the solutions of these models and to estimate the time during which they keep clos…
