We construct new examples of derived autoequivalences for a family of higher-dimensional Calabi-Yau varieties. Specifically, we take the total spaces of certain natural vector bundles over Grassmannians G(r,d) of r-planes in a d-dimensional vector space, and define endofunctors of the bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves associated to these varieties. In the case r=2 we show that these are autoequivalences using the theory of spherical functors. Our autoequivalences naturally generalize the Seidel-Thomas spherical twist for analogous bundles over projective spaces.
Twisted ind-Grassmannians are ind-varieties $\GG$ obtained as direct limits of Grassmannians $G(r_m,V^{r_m})$, for $m\in\ZZ_{>0}$, under embeddings $ϕ_m:G(r_m,V^{r_m})\to G(r_{m+1}, V^{r_{m+1}})$ of degree greater than one. It has been conjectured in \cite{PT} and \cite{DP} that any vector bundle of finite rank on a twisted ind-Grassmannian is trivial. We prove this conjecture under the assumption that the ind-Grassmannian $\GG$ is sufficiently twisted, i.e. that $\lim_{m\to\infty}\frac{r_m}{°ϕ_1...\degϕ_m}=0$.
Let ${\mathfrak g}$ be a simple Lie algebra. For a level $κ$ (thought of as a symmetric ${\mathfrak g}$-invariant form of ${\mathfrak g}$), let $\hat{\mathfrak g}_κ$ be the corresponding affine Kac-Moody algebra. Let $Gr_G$ be the affine Grassmannian of ${\mathfrak g}$, and let $D_κ(Gr_G)-mod$ be the category of $κ$-twisted right D-modules on $Gr_G$. By taking global sections of a D-module, we obtain a functor $Γ:D_κ(Gr_G)-mod\to {\mathfrak g}_κ-mod$. It is known that this functor is exact and faithful when $κ$ is negative or irrational. In this paper, we show that the functor $Γ$ is exact and…
Let $G$ be a reductive group and $U,U^-$ be the unipotent radicals of a pair of opposite parabolic subgroups $P,P^-$. We prove that the DG-categories of $U(\!(t)\!)$-equivariant and $U^-(\!(t)\!)$-equivariant D-modules on the affine Grassmannian $Gr_G$ are canonically dual to each other. We show that the unit object witnessing this duality is given by nearby cycles on the Drinfeld-Gaitsgory-Vinberg interpolation Grassmannian defined in arXiv:1805.07721. We study various properties of the mentioned nearby cycles, in particular compare them with the nearby cycles studied in arXiv:1411.4206 and a…
We show that the linked Grassmannian scheme, which arises in a functorial compactification of spaces of limit linear series, and in local models of certain Shimura varieties, is Cohen-Macaulay, reduced, and flat. We give an application to spaces of limit linear series.
Due to a theorem by Orlov every exact fully faithful functor between the bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves on smooth projective varieties is of Fourier-Mukai type. We extend this result to the case of bounded derived categories of twisted coherent sheaves and at the same time we weaken the hypotheses on the functor. As an application we get a complete description of the exact functors between the abelian categories of twisted coherent sheaves on smooth projective varieties.
We introduce a new class of autoequivalences that act on the derived categories of certain vector bundles over Grassmannians. These autoequivalences arise from Grassmannian flops: they generalize Seidel-Thomas spherical twists, which can be seen as arising from standard flops. We first give a simple algebraic construction, which is well-suited to explicit computations. We then give a geometric construction using spherical functors which we prove is equivalent.
We prove a theorem classifying the equivariant $K$-theoretic pushforwards of the product of arbitrary Schur functors applied to the tautological bundle on the moduli space of framed rank $r$ torsion-free sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$, and its dual. This is done by deriving a formula for similar coefficients on Grassmannian varieties, and by thinking of the moduli space as a class in the $K$-theory of the Grassmannian, in analogy with the construction of the Hilbert scheme when the rank is one. Our motivations stem from some vertex operator calculus studied recently by Nekrasov, Okounkov, and the a…
This note is based on a talk given at String-Math 2012 in Bonn, on a joint paper with Ed Segal. We exhibit derived equivalences corresponding to certain Grassmannian flops. The construction of these equivalences is inspired by work of Herbst-Hori-Page on brane transport for gauged linear sigma models: in particular, we define 'windows' corresponding to their grade restriction rules. We then show how composing our equivalences produces interesting autoequivalences, which we describe as twists and cotwists about certain spherical functors. Our proofs use natural long exact sequences of bundles o…
In this paper, we characterize homogeneous arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay (ACM) bundles over isotropic Grassmannians of types $B$, $C$ and $D$ in term of step matrices. We show that there are only finitely many irreducible homogeneous ACM bundles by twisting line bundles over these isotropic Grassmannians. So we classify all homogeneous ACM bundles over isotropic Grassmannians combining the results on usual Grassmannians by Costa and Mir{ó}-Roig. Moreover, if the irreducible initialized homogeneous ACM bundles correspond to some special highest weights, then they can be characterized by succinc…
We prove that, for 3 < m < n-1, the Grassmannian of m-dimensional subspaces of the space of skew-symmetric forms over a vector space of dimension n is birational to the Hilbert scheme of the degeneracy loci of m global sections of Omega(2), the twisted cotangent bundle on P^{n-1}. For 3=m<n-1 and n odd, this Grassmannian is proved to be birational to the set of Veronese surfaces parametrized by the Pfaffians of linear skew-symmetric matrices of order n.
We consider certain universal functors on symmetric quotient stacks of Abelian varieties. In dimension two, we discover a family of $\mathbb{P}$-functors which induce new derived autoequivalences of Hilbert schemes of points on Abelian surfaces; a set of braid relations on a holomorphic symplectic sixfold; and a pair of spherical functors on the Hilbert square of an Abelian surface, whose twists are related to the well-known Horja twist. In dimension one, our universal functors are fully faithful, giving rise to a semiorthogonal decomposition for the symmetric quotient stack of an elliptic cur…
We give a complete list of smooth and rationally smooth normalized Schubert varieties in the twisted affine Grassmannian associated with a tamely ramified group and a special vertex of its Bruhat-Tits building. The particular case of the quasi-minuscule Schubert variety in the quasi-split but non-split form of ${\rm Spin}_8$ ("ramified triality") provides an input needed in the article by He-Pappas-Rapoport classifying Shimura varieties with good or semi-stable reduction.
We build an infinite dimensional scheme parametrizing isomorphism classes of coherent quotients of a quasi-coherent sheaf on a projective scheme. The main tool to achieve the construction is a version of Grothendieck's Grassmannian embedding combined with a result of Deligne, realizing quasi-coherent sheaves as ind-objects in the category of quasi-coherent sheaves of finite presentation. We end our treatment with the discussion of a special case in which we can retain an analog of the Grassmannian embedding.
For a map f: X -> Y of quasi-compact quasi-separated schemes, we discuss quasi-perfection, that is, the right adjoint f^\times of the derived functor Rf_* respects small direct sums. This is equivalent to the existence of a functorial isomorphism f^\times O_{Y} \otimes^L Lf^*(-) \to f^\times (-); to quasi-properness (preservation by Rf_* of pseudo-coherence, or just properness in the noetherian case) plus boundedness of Lf^* (finite tor-dimensionality), or of the functor f^\times; and to some other conditions. We use a globalization, previously known only for divisorial schemes, of the local d…
Scattering amplitudes in 4d $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory (SYM) can be described by Grassmannian contour integrals whose form depends on whether the external data is encoded in momentum space, twistor space, or momentum twistor space. After a pedagogical review, we present a new, streamlined proof of the equivalence of the three integral formulations. A similar strategy allows us to derive a new Grassmannian integral for 3d $\mathcal{N}=6$ ABJM theory amplitudes in momentum twistor space: it is a contour integral in an orthogonal Grassmannian with the novel property that the internal…
We outline a proof of a geometric version of the Satake isomorphism. Given a connected, complex algebraic reductive group G we show that the tensor category of representations of the dual group $\check G$ is naturally equivalent to a certain category of perverse sheaves on the loop Grassmannian of G. The above result has been announced by Ginsburg in \cite{G} and some of the arguments are borrowed from \cite{G}. However, we use a more "natural" commutativity constraint for the convolution product, due to Drinfeld. Secondly, we give a direct geometric proof that the global cohomology functor is…
In the example of complex grassmannians, we demonstrate various techniques available for computing genus-0 K-theoretic GW-invariants of flag manifolds and more general quiver varieties. In particular, we address explicit reconstruction of all such invariants using finite-difference operators, the role of the q-hypergeometric series arising in the context of quasimap compactifications of spaces of rational curves in such varieties, the theory of twisted GW-invariants including level structures, as well as the Jackson-type integrals playing the role of equivariant K-theoretic mirrors.
Let $k$ be a regular ring, and let $A,B$ be essentially finite type $k$-algebras. For any functor $F:{D}(A)\times\dots\times{D}(A)\to{D}(B)$ between their derived categories, we define its twist $F^{!}:{D}(A)\times\dots\times{D}(A)\to{D}(B)$ with respect to dualizing complexes, generalizing Grothendieck's construction of $f^{!}$. We show that relations between functors are preserved between their twists, and deduce that various relations hold between derived Hochschild (co)-homology and the $f^{!}$ functor. We also deduce that the set of isomorphism classes of dualizing complexes over a ring (…
We study the relationship between the categorical entropy of the twist and cotwist functors along a spherical functor. In particular, we prove the categorical entropy of the twist functor coincides with that of the cotwist functor if the essential image of the right adjoint functor of the spherical functor contains a split-generator. We also see our results generalize the computations of the categorical entropy of spherical twists and $\mathbb{P}$-twists by Ouchi and Fan. As an application, we apply our results to the Gromov--Yomdin type conjecture by Kikuta--Takahashi.
Quiver Grassmannians and quiver flags are natural generalisations of usual Grassmannians and flags. They arise in the study of quiver representations and Hall algebras. In general, they are projective varieties which are neither smooth nor irreducible. We use a scheme theoretic approach to calculate their tangent space and to obtain a dimension estimate similar to one of Reineke. Using this we can show that if there is a generic representation, then these varieties are smooth and irreducible. If we additionally have a counting polynomial we deduce that their Euler characteristic is positive an…
In arXiv:2007.14415 we proved that the "flop-flop" autoequivalence can be realized as the spherical twist around a spherical functor whose source category arises naturally from the geometry. In this companion paper we study in detail some examples so to explicitly describe what the source category looks like. In some cases we are able to prove that the source category respects the known decomposition of the flop-flop autoequivalence, and therefore we tie up our geometric description with formal results which appear in the literature about gluing and splitting of spherical twists around spheric…
This is an expanded version of the text ``Perverse Sheaves on Loop Grassmannians and Langlands Duality'', AG/9703010. The main new result is a topological realization of algebraic representations of reductive groups over arbitrary rings. We outline a proof of a geometric version of the Satake isomorphism. Given a connected, complex algebraic reductive group G we show that the tensor category of representations of the Langlands dual group is naturally equivalent to a certain category of perverse sheaves on the loop Grassmannian of G. The above result has been announced by Ginsburg in and some o…
We describe in terms of spherical twists the Serre functors of many interesting semiorthogonal components, called residual categories, of the derived categories of projective varieties. In particular, we show the residual categories of Fano complete intersections are fractional Calabi--Yau up to a power of an explicit spherical twist. As applications, we compute the Serre dimensions of residual categories of Fano complete intersections, thereby proving a corrected version of a conjecture of Katzarkov and Kontsevich, and deduce the nonexistence of Serre invariant stability conditions when the d…
We introduce a construction that associates, to each finite dimensional k-vector space V, a family of projective k-varieties that comes equipped with the structure of a operad in the category of k-schemes. When dim V = 1, this operad contains, as a suboperad, the family of moduli spaces of stably marked rational curves. For general V, our operad contains the family of Chen-Gibney-Krashen moduli spaces of stably marked trees of projective spaces as a suboperad. We realize our operad as part of a larger theory that describes how to construct operads from suitable functors. Given a category C tha…
We find two natural spherical functors associated to the Kummer surface and analyse how their induced twists fit with Bridgeland's conjecture on the derived autoequivalence group of a complex algebraic K3 surface.
We calculate explicit formulas for the general equivariant Bondal-Orlov functors on the localized K-theory groups for a crepant birational transformation of toric DM stacks. We recall some facts that the Bondal-Orlov functors give equivalences on the bounded derived categories. Applying twice of these functors we get the Seidel-Thomas spherical twists for the derived category.
Given a split $\mathbb{P}$-functor $F:\mathcal{D}^b(X) \to \mathcal{D}^b(Y)$ between smooth projective varieties, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions, in terms of the Hochschild cohomology of $X$, for it to become spherical on the total space of a deformation of $Y$, and explain how the spherical twist becomes the $\mathbb{P}$-twist on the special fibre. These results generalise the object case, that is when $X$ is a point, which was studied previously by Huybrechts and Thomas, and we show how they apply to the $\mathbb{P}$-functor associated to the Hilbert scheme of points on a K3 …
If $¶^\infty$ is the projective ind-space, i.e. $¶^\infty$ is the inductive limit of linear embeddings of complex projective spaces, the Barth-Van de Ven-Tyurin (BVT) Theorem claims that every finite rank vector bundle on $¶^\infty$ is isomorphic to a direct sum of line bundles. We extend this theorem to general sequences of morphisms between projective spaces by proving that, if there are infinitely many morphisms of degree higher than one, every vector bundle of finite rank on the inductive limit is trivial. We then establish a relative version of these results, and apply it to the study of …
Flops are birational transformations which, conjecturally, induce derived equivalences. In many cases an equivalence can be produced as pull-push via a resolution of the birational transformation; when this happens, we have a non-trivial autoequivalence of either sides of the flop known as the \emph{flop-flop autoequivalence}. We prove that such autoequivalence can be realised as the inverse of a spherical twist around a conservative, spherical functor in a natural way. More precisely, we prove that a natural, conservative spherical functor exists in a more general framework and that the flop-…
For a reductive group $G$ we equip the category of $G_\mathcal{O}$-equivariant polarizable pure Hodge modules on the affine Grassmannian $\mathrm{Gr}_G$ with a structure of neutral Tannakian category. We show that it is equivalent to a twisted tensor product of the category of representations of the Langlands dual group and the category of pure polarizable Hodge structures.
We give geometric descriptions of the category C_k(n,d) of rational polynomial representations of GL_n over a field k of degree d for d less than or equal to n, the Schur functor and Schur-Weyl duality. The descriptions and proofs use a modular version of Springer theory and relationships between the equivariant geometry of the affine Grassmannian and the nilpotent cone for the general linear groups. Motivated by this description, we propose generalizations for an arbitrary connected complex reductive group of the category C_k(n,d) and the Schur functor.
E. Segal proved that any autoequivalence of an enhanced triangulated category can be realised as a spherical twist. However, when exhibiting an autoequivalence as a spherical twist one has various choices for the source category of the spherical functor. We describe a construction that realises the composition of two spherical twists as the twist around a single spherical functor whose source category semiorthogonally decomposes into the source categories for the spherical functors we started with. We give a description of the cotwist for this spherical functor and prove, in the special case w…
We prove that for any $\mathbb{P}^n$-functor all the convolutions (double cones) of the three-term complex $FHR \xrightarrowψ FR \xrightarrow{tr} Id$ defining its $\mathbb{P}$-twist are isomorphic. We also introduce a new notion of a non-split $\mathbb{P}^n$-functor.
We classify rank two Fano bundles over the Grassmannian of lines $\G(1,4)$. In particular we show that the only non-split rank two Fano bundle over $\G(1,4)$ is, up to a twist, the universal quotient bundle $\cQ$. This completes the classification of rank two Fano bundles over Grassmannians of lines.
For two DG-categories A and B we define the notion of a spherical Morita quasi-functor A -> B. We construct its associated autoequivalences: the twist T of D(B) and the co-twist F of D(A). We give powerful sufficiency criteria for a quasi-functor to be spherical and for the twists associated to a collection of spherical quasi-functors to braid. Using the framework of DG-enhanced triangulated categories, we translate all of the above to Fourier-Mukai transforms between the derived categories of algebraic varieties. This is a broad generalisation of the results on spherical objects in [ST01] and…
Every Grassmannian, in its Plücker embedding, is defined by quadratic polynomials. We prove a vast, qualitative, generalisation of this fact to what we call Plücker varieties. A Plücker variety is in fact a family of varieties in exterior powers of vector spaces that, like the Grassmannian, is functorial in the vector space and behaves well under duals. A special case of our result says that for each fixed natural number k, the k-th secant variety of any Plücker-embedded Grassmannian is defined in bounded degree independent of the Grassmannian. Our approach is to take the limit of a Plücker va…
Given a DG-category A we introduce the bar category of modules Modbar(A). It is a DG-enhancement of the derived category D(A) of A which is isomorphic to the category of DG A-modules with A-infinity morphisms between them. However, it is defined intrinsically in the language of DG-categories and requires no complex machinery or sign conventions of A-infinity categories. We define for these bar categories Tensor and Hom bifunctors, dualisation functors, and a convolution of twisted complexes. The intended application is to working with DG-bimodules as enhancements of exact functors between tria…
Mustafin varieties are flat degenerations of projective spaces, induced by a choice of an $n-$tuple of lattices in a vector space over a non-archimedean field. They were introduced by Mustafin in the 70s in order to generalise Mumford's groundbreaking work on the unformisation of curves to higher dimension. These varieties have a rich combinatorial structure as can be seen in pioneering work of Cartwright, Häbich, Sturmfels and Werner. In this paper, we introduce a new approach to Mustafin varieties in terms of images of rational maps, which were studied by Li. Applying tropical intersection t…
Here, we utilize facts about the big Chern classes discovered by M. Kapranov and independently by M. V. Nori to prove certain results about the nonexistence of certain morphisms from Grassmannian to Grassmannian in characteristic 0. In particular, we show that the filtration F_. on CH^l(X) where F_rCH^l(X) is the linear span of ch_l(V) for all vector bundles V of rank <=r is nontrivial as a theory by showing that for a fixed l>=2, for infinitely many r, for a Grassmannian of r dimensional quotient spaces in an n dimensional vector space (n sufficiently large) over a field of charactersitic 0, …
The Semiinfinite Flag Space appeared in the works of B.Feigin and E.Frenkel, and under different disguises was found by V.Drinfeld and G.Lusztig in the early 80-s. Another recent discovery (Beilinson-Drinfeld Grassmannian) turned out to conceal a new incarnation of Semiinfinite Flags. We write down these and other results scattered in folklore. We define the local semiinfinite flag space attached to a semisimple group $G$ as the quotient $G((z))/HN((z))$ (an ind-scheme), where $H$ and $N$ are a Cartan subgroup and the unipotent radical of a Borel subgroup of $G$. The global semiinfinite flag s…
The aim of this paper is to offer an algebraic construction of infinite-dimensional Grassmannians and determinant bundles (and therefore valid for arbitrary base fields). As an application we construct the $τ$-function and formal Baker-Akhiezer functions over arbitrary fields, by proving the existence of a ``formal geometry'' of local curves analogous to the geometry of global algebraic curves. We begin by defining the functor of points, $\fu{\gr}(V,V^+)$, of the Grassmannian of a $k$-vector space $V$ in such a way that its rational points are precisely the points of the Grassmannian defined b…
The affine Grassmannian of $SL_n$ admits an embedding into the Sato Grassmannian, which further admits a Plücker embedding into the projectivization of Fermion Fock space. Kreiman, Lakshmibai, Magyar, and Weyman describe the linear part of the ideal defining this embedding in terms of certain elements of the dual of Fock space called "shuffles", and they conjecture that these elements together with the Plücker relations suffice to cut out the affine Grassmannian. We give a proof of this conjecture in two steps: first we reinterpret the shuffles equations in terms of Frobenius twists of symmetr…
Family Floer theory yields a functor from the Fukaya category of a symplectic manifold admitting a Lagrangian torus fibration to a (twisted) category of perfect complexes on the mirror rigid analytic space. This functor is shown to be faithful by a degeneration argument involving moduli spaces of annuli.
We relate the geometry of Schubert varieties in twisted affine Grassmannian and the nilpotent varieties in symmetric spaces. This extends some results of Achar-Henderson in the twisted setting. We also get some applications to the geometry of the order 2 nilpotent varieties in certain classical symmetric spaces.
We study Dehn twists along Lagrangian submanifolds that are finite quotients of spheres. We decribe the induced auto-equivalences to the derived Fukaya category and explain its relation to twists along spherical functors.
