In this paper we find giant magnon and single spike string solutions in a sector of the gamma-deformed conifold. We examine the dispersion relations and find a behavior analogous to the undeformed case. The transcendental functional relations between the conserved charges are shifted by certain gamma-dependent term. The latter is proportional to the total momentum and thus qualitatively different from known cases.
We generalize the one magnon solution in R X S^2 to unbounded M magnon and find the corresponding solitonic string configuration in the string sigma model. This configuration gives rise to the expected dispersion relation obtained from the spin chain model in the large 't Hooft coupling limit. After considering (M,M) multi-magnon or spike on R X S^2 X S^2 as a subspace of AdS(5)XS^5 or AdS(4)XCP^3, we investigate the dispersion relation and the finite size effect for (M,M) multi-magnon or spike.
In this paper we study the solitonic string solutions of magnon and single spike type in the beta-deformed AdS_4 x CP3 background. We find the dispersion relations which are supposed to give the anomalous dimension of the gauge theory operators.
In the string theory in AdS_4 \times CP^3 we construct the giant magnon and spike solutions with two spins in two kinds of subspaces of R_t \times CP^3 and derive the dispersion relations for them. For the single giant magnon solution in one subspace we show that its dispersion relation is associated with that of the big one-spin giant magnon solution in the RP^2 subspace. For the single giant magnon solution in the other complementary subspace its dispersion relation is similar to that of the one-spin giant magnon solution living in the S^2 subspace but has one additional spin dependence.
Recently important classes of solitonic string solutions were obtained - giant magnons and single spikes. In previous study we showed the existence of giant magnon-like membrane solutions and studied their properties. In this paper we investigate classical rotating membranes representing analog of a specific class of string spiky solutions. Using the reduction to the Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system we find analog of the string single spike solutions. In contrast to the magnon-like solutions, this case is characterized with finite difference of energy and ``winding number'' and finite spi…
In this paper we consider the finite size effects for the strings in β-deformed AdS_{5}\times T^{1,1} background. We analyze the finite size corrections for the cases of giant magnon and single spike string solution. The finite size corrections for the undeformed case are straightforwardly obtained sending the deformation parameter to zero.
We generalize the method of our recent paper on the large-spin expansions of Gubser-Klebanov-Polyakov (GKP) strings to the large-spin and large-winding expansions of finite-size giant magnons and finite-size single spikes. By expressing the energies of long open strings in RxS2 in terms of Lambert's W-function, we compute the leading, subleading and next-to-subleading series of classical exponential corrections to the dispersion relations of Hofman-Maldacena giant magnons and infinite-winding single spikes. We also compute the corresponding expansions in the doubled regions of giant magnons an…
After considering a solitonic string moving in the Poincare $AdS$ and two-dimensional sphere, we calculate the two-point correlation function of magnon and spike in the semi-classical limit without any explicit solution. We also calculate the three-point correlation functions between two heavy and one light operators. We find that the coupling between two heavy and one light operators in the string side is the exactly same as one obtained from the gauge theory by using the RG analysis.
We study rigid string solutions rotating in $AdS_5\times S^5$ background. For particular values of the parameters of the solutions we find multispin solutions corresponding to giant magnons and single spike strings. We present an analysis of the dispersion relations in the case of three spin solutions distributed only in $S^5$ and the case of one spin in $AdS_5$ and two spins in $S^5$. The possible relation of these string solutions to gauge theory operators and spin chains are briefly discussed.
We consider strings moving in the R_t x S^3_ηsubspace of the η-deformed AdS_5 x S^5 and obtain a class of solutions depending on several parameters. They are characterized by the string energy and two angular momenta. Finite-size dyonic giant magnon belongs to this class of solutions. Further on, we restrict ourselves to the case of giant magnon with one nonzero angular momentum, and obtain the leading finite-size correction to the dispersion relation.
We study giant magnon solutions for strings moving on a deformed AdS(3)xS(3) background. We impose a conformal gauge on the Polyakov action and proceed with solving the Virasoro constraints. The expressions of the conserved charge J and the energy of a single magnon excitation are then computed. Then we determine the dispersion relation in the infinite J limit configuration and we find that it reduces to celebrated Hofman-Maldacena dispersion relation when the deformation parameter goes to zero.
It was recently noted that the dispersion relation for the magnons of planar N=4 SYM can be identified with the Casimir of a certain deformation of the Poincare algebra, in which the energy and momentum operators are supplemented by a boost generator J. By considering the relationship between J and su(2|2) x R^2, we derive a q-deformed super-Poincare symmetry algebra of the kinematics. Using this, we show that the dynamic magnon representations may be obtained by boosting from a fixed rest-frame representation. We comment on aspects of the coalgebra structure and some implications for the ques…
We study solutions for the rotating strings on the sphere with a background NS-NS field and on the Anti-de-Sitter spacetime. We show the existence of magnon and single spike solutions on R$\times$S$^2$ in the presence of constant magnetic field as two limiting cases. We also study the solution for strings on AdS$_3\times$ S$^3$ with Melvin deformation. The dispersion relations among various conserved charges are shown to receive finite corrections due to the deformation parameter. We further study the rotating string on AdS$_3 \times$ S$^3$ geometry with two conserved angular momenta on S$^3$ …
The single spike is a rigidly rotating classical string configuration closely related to the giant magnon. We calculate bosonic and fermionic modes of this solution, from which we see that it is not supersymmetric. It can be viewed as an excitation above a hoop of string wound around the equator, in the same sense that the magnon is an excitation above an orbiting point particle. We find the operator which plays the role of the Hamiltonian for this sector, which compared to the magnon's E-J has the angular momentum replaced by a winding charge. The single spike solution is unstable, and we use…
We construct semi-classical string solutions of the Schrödinger $Sch_5 \times S^5$ spacetime, which is conjectured to be the gravity dual of a non-local dipole-deformed CFT. They are the counterparts of the giant magnon and spiky string solutions of the undeformed $AdS_5 \times S^5$ to which they flow when the deformation parameter is turned off. They live in an $S^3$ subspace of the five-sphere along the directions of which the $B$-field has non-zero components having also extent in the $Sch_5$ part of the metric. Finally, we speculate on the form of the dual field theory operators.
Perturbations of giant magnons and single spikes in a $2+1$ dimensional $\mathbb R \times S^2$ background spacetime are analysed. Using the form of the giant magnon solution in the Jevicki-Jin gauge, the well-known Jacobi equation for small normal deformations of an embedded time-like surface are written down. Surprisingly, this equation reduces to a simple wave equation in a Minkowski background. The finiteness of perturbations and the ensuing stability of such giant magnons under small deformations are then discussed. It turns out that only the zero mode has finite deformations and is stable.…
In this paper, using the holographic prescription, we study multispin bound states and their dispersion relations over the $ κ$-deformed $ AdS_{3}\times S^{3} $ background. In the first part of our analysis, considering the conformal gauge conditions (associated with the Polyakov action) we explore the dispersion relation associated with spin two bound states at strong coupling. We solve corresponding world-sheet fluctuations and compute all the conserved quantities associated with the stringy dynamics over the deformed background. In the second part of our analysis, we perform similar analysi…
The dispersion relation for planar N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills is identified with the Casimir of a quantum deformed two-dimensional kinematical symmetry, E_q(1,1). The quantum deformed symmetry algebra is generated by the momentum, energy and boost, with deformation parameter q=e^{2πi/λ}. Representing the boost as the infinitesimal generator for translations on the rapidity space leads to an elliptic uniformization with crossing transformations implemented through translations by the elliptic half-periods. This quantum deformed algebra can be interpreted as the kinematical symmetry of a disc…
In this note we give evidence for an equality of the spectra, including wrapping, of the SU(2)-sector spin chain for real deformations beta and beta+1/L, in marginally beta-deformed N=4 Yang-Mills, which appears after relaxing the cyclicity constraint. Evidence for the equality is given by evaluating the first wrapping correction to the energy of the undeformed magnon of momentum pi, and the beta=1/2, physical magnon, for several spin chain lengths L. We also show that the term of maximal transcendentality coincides for both magnons to all L. As a by-product we provide an expression for the fi…
We consider giant magnons propagating in a γ-deformed AdS_5 x S^5 background obtained from AdS_5 x S^5 by means of a chain of TsT transformations. We point out that in the light-cone gauge and in the infinite J limit the deformed and undeformed string models share the same magnon dispersion relation, the \su(2|2)\oplus \su(2|2)-invariant world-sheet S-matrix and the dressing factor. The γ-dependence in the limit is only due to different level-matching conditions. We consider the reduction of the deformed model to R x S^3 and determine the leading γ-dependence of the dispersion relation for a f…
We study rigid string solutions rotating on the S^3 subspace of the beta-deformed AdS_5xS^5 background found by Lunin and Maldacena. For particular values of the parameters of the solutions we find the known giant magnon and single spike strings. We present a single spike string solution on the deformed S^3 and find how the deformation affects the dispersion relation. The possible relation of this string solution to spin chains and the connection of the solutions on the undeformed S^3 to the sine-Gordon model are briefly discussed.
We apply the dressing method to a string solution given by a static string wrapped around the equator of a three-sphere and find that the result is the single spike solution recently discussed in the literature. Further application of the method allows the construction of solutions with multiple spikes. In particular we construct the solution describing the scattering of two single spikes and compute the scattering phase shift. As a function of the dressing parameters, the result is exactly the same as the one for the giant magnon, up to non-logarithmic terms. This suggests that the single spi…
We compute semiclassical three-point correlation function, or structure constant, of two finite-size (dyonic) giant magnon string states and a light dilaton mode in the Lunin-Maldacena background, which is the γ-deformed, or TsT-transformed AdS_5 x S_γ^5, dual to N = 1 super Yang-Mills theory. We also prove that an important relation between the structure constant and the conformal dimension, checked for the N = 4 super Yang-Mills case, still holds for the γ-deformed string background.
We compute both classical and quantum finite-size corrections at leading order in the strong coupling limit for the (dyonic) giant magnon in the Lunin-Maldacena background. Based on the exact S-martix conjectured for the deformed theory, we generalize the Luscher formula to include twisted boundary conditions and show that the results match with those derived both by finite-size classical solutions of the giant magnon and by algebraic curve analysis.
We derive the 3-point correlation function between two giant magnons heavy string states and the light dilaton operator with zero momentum in the η-deformed AdS_5 x S^5 valid for any J_1 and ηin the semiclassical limit. We show that this result satisfies a consistency relation between the 3-point correlation function and the conformal dimension of the giant magnon. We also provide a leading finite J_1 correction explicitly.
Motivated by the recent work of Hofman and Maldacena we construct a classical string solution on the beta-deformed AdS_5 \times \tilde{S}^5 background. This string solution is identified with a magnon state of the integrable spin chain description of the N=1 supersymmetric beta-deformed gauge theory. The string solution carries two angular momenta, an infinite J_1 and a finite J_2 which classically can take arbitrary values. It corresponds to the magnon of charge J_2 propagating on an infinite spin chain. We derive an exact dispersion relation for this magnon from string theory.
We investigate the two- and three-point correlation functions of the dyonic magnon and spike, which correspond to the solitonic string moving in the Poincare AdS and three-dimensional sphere. We show that the coupling between two dyonic magnons or spikes together with a marginal scalar operator in the string theory is exactly the same as one obtained by the RG analysis in the gauge theory.
We investigate dyonic giant magnons propagating on $γ$-deformed $AdS_5\times S^5$ by Neumann-Rosochatius reduction method with a twisted boundary condition. We compute finite-size effect of the dispersion relations of dyonic giant magnons which generalizes the previously known case of the giant magnons with one angular momentum found by Bykov and Frolov.
We investigate finite-size giant magnons propagating on γ-deformed AdS_4 x CP^3_γ type IIA string theory background, dual to one parameter deformation of the N=6 super Chern-Simoms-matter theory. Analyzing the finite-size effect on the dispersion relation, we find that it is modified compared to the undeformed case, acquiring γdependence.
We construct the full set of boundary giant magnons on $\mathbb{R}\times S^{2}$ attached to the maximal $Z=0$ giant graviton by mapping from the general solution to static sine-Gordon theory on the interval and compute the values of $Δ-J$ at finite $J$, including the leading order corrections when $J$ is large. We then consider the Born-Infeld theory of the giant graviton itself to construct BIon spike solutions that correspond to the world volume description of the boundary giant magnons at finite $J$.
We study a giant magnon and a spike solution for the string rotating on AdS(4) X CP**3 geometry. We consider rigid rotating fundamental string in the SU(2) X SU(2) sector inside the CP**3 and find out the general form of all the conserved charges. We find out the dispersion relation corresponding to both the known giant magnon and the new spike solutions. We further study the finite size correction in both cases.
We use the reduction of the string dynamics on AdS_4 x CP^3 to the Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system. All constraints can be expressed simply in terms of a few parameters. We analyze the giant magnon and single spike solutions on R_t x CP^3 with two angular momenta in detail and find the energy-charge relations. The finite-size effects of the giant magnon and single spike solutions are analyzed.
We study general rotating string solution in the AdS(4) X CP**3 background with a B_NS holonomy turned on over ${\bf CP}^1$ $\subset $ $ {\bf CP}^3$. We find the giant magnon and single spike solutions for the string moving in this background corresponding to open spin chain. We calculate the corresponding dispersion relation among various conserved charges for both the cases. We further study the finite size effect on both the giant magnon and single spike solutions.
We show nonrelativistic (NR) giant magnon dispersion relations by probing the torsional Newton Cartan (TNC) geometry with (semi)classical nonrelativistic rigidly rotating strings. We construct NR sigma models over $ R \times S^2 $ and consider two specific limiting cases those are of particular interest. Both of these limiting conditions give rise to what we identify as the \emph{small} momentum limit of the giant magnon dispersion relation in the dual SMT at \emph{strong} coupling. We further generalize our results in the presence of background NS-NS fluxes. Our analysis reveals that unlike i…
We apply Zeilberger summation to derive a closed formula for the wrapping correction to one-impurity states in the su(2) sector of the beta-deformed N=4 SYM theory at beta=1/2. As an application depending heavily on the result, we compute the large volume expansion of the wrapping correction.
We study finite-size corrections to the magnon dispersion relation in three models which differ from string theory on AdS5 x S5 in their boundary conditions. Asymptotically, this is accomplished by twisting the transfer matrix in a way which manifestly preserves integrability. In model I all world-sheet fields are periodic, whereas model II represents a particular orbifold of AdS5 x S5 and model III is a beta-deformed theory. For models I and II we construct the one-particle TBA equations and use them to determine the leading finite-size correction to the asymptotic Bethe equation. We also mak…
We study solutions for a rotating string on S^3 with a background NS-NS B-field and show the existence of spiky string and giant magnon as two limiting solutions. We make a connection to the sine-Gordon model via the Polyakov worldsheet action and study the effect of B-field. In particular, we find the magnon solution can be mapped to the excitation of a fractional spin chain. We conjecture a B-deformed SYM to be the gauge theory dual to this background.
We study the spectrum of one single magnon in the superconformal beta-deformed N=4 SYM theory in the planar limit. We compute the anomalous dimensions of one-impurity operators O_{1,L}= tr(phi Z^{L-1}), including wrapping contributions at their critical order L.
We study the finite size effect of rigidly rotating and spinning folded strings in $(AdS_3\times S^3)_{\varkappa}$ background. We calculate the leading order exponential corrections to the infinite size dispersion relation of the giant magnon, and single spike solutions. For the spinning folded strings we write the finite size effect in terms of the known Lambert $W$-function.
We compute Luscher corrections for a giant magnon in the η-deformed (AdS_5\times S^5)_η using the su(2|2)_q-invariant S-matrix at strong coupling and compare with the finite-size effect of the corresponding string state, derived previously. We find that these two results match and confirm that the su(2|2)_q-invariant S-matrix is describing world-sheet excitations of the η-deformed background.
In this paper we have found a classical giant magnon-like solution with both infinite and finite angular momentum moving in Sch_5 x S^5 with B-field, which is believed to be dual to dipole-deformed N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. This string state propagates as a point particle in non-trivial subspace of the Sch_5 space but shows a giant magnon-like property in the S^2 subspace. We derive the energy-momentum dispersion relations and their finite-size correction for the case of finite but large angular momentum.
In this paper, we study the spin chain and string excitation in the two-parameters $q$-deformed AdS$_3\times$S$^3$ proposed by Hoare. We obtain the deformed spin chain model at the fast spin limit for choices of deformed parameters. General ansatz for giant magnons are studied in great detail and complicated dispersion relation is treated perturbatively. We also study several types of hanging string solutions and their charges and spins are analyzed numerically. At last, we explore its pp-wave limit and find its solution only depends on the difference of deformed parameters.
We investigate giant magnons from classical rotating strings in two different backgrounds. First we generalize the solution of Hofman and Maldacena and investigate new magnon excitations of a spin chain which are dual to a string on $R\times S^5$ with two non-vanishing angular momenta. Alowing string dynamics along the third angle in the five sphere, we find a dispersion relation that reproduces the Hofman and Maldacena and the one found by Dorey for the two spin case. In the second part of the paper we generalize the two "spin" giant magnon to the case of $\b$-deformed $\axs$ background. We f…
We consider the most general string configurations on the R_t x S^3 subspace of AdS_5 xS^5, described by the Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system. Under some restrictions on the parameters of the solution and in an appropriate limit, they correspond to small deviation from the known finite-size giant magnon solutions with one and two angular momenta. Analyzing the finite-size effect on the dispersion relation, we find that the leading correction is modified in a way similar to the gamma-deformed case R_t x S^3_gamma. The subleading correction for a string with one angular momentum is also fou…
We study solutions for rigidly rotating strings on a two sphere. Among them we find two limiting cases that have a particular interest, one is the already known giant magnon and the other we call the single spike solution. The limiting behavior of this last solution is a string infinitely wrapped around the equator. It differs from that solution by the existence of a single spike of height theta that points toward the north pole. We study its properties and compute its energy E and angular momentum J as a function of theta. We further generalize the solution by adding one angular momentum to o…
We consider the leading finite-size effects on some structure constants for the $η$ - deformed $AdS_5\times S^5$ background in the framework of the semiclassical approach. The leading finite-size corrections are derived for the cases when we have two heavy string states represented by giant magnons and for two different choices of the light states corresponding to dilaton operator with nonzero momentum and primary scalar operators. Since the dual field theory is still unknown, the results obtained here must be considered as conjectures or as predictions from the string theory side.
In the framework of the semiclassical approach, we compute the normalized structure constants in three-point correlation functions, when two of the vertex operators correspond to "heavy" string states, while the third vertex corresponds to a "light" state. This is done for the case when the "heavy" string states are finite-size giant magnons, carrying one or two angular momenta. The "light" states are taken to be singlet scalar operators on higher string levels. We first consider the case of string theory on AdS_5xS^5 dual to N = 4 super Yang-Mills. Then we extend the obtained results to the g…
We compute the leading finite-size effects on the normalized structure constants in semiclassical three-point correlation functions of two finite-size giant magnon string states and three different types of "light" states - primary scalar operators, dilaton operator with nonzero momentum and singlet scalar operators on higher string levels. This is done for the case of TsT-transformed, or gamma-deformed, AdS_5 x S^5 string theory background, dual to N = 1 super Yang-Mills theory in four dimensions, arising as an exactly marginal deformation of N = 4 super Yang-Mills.
We study the spectrum around the "antiferromagnetic" states of the planar AdS_5/CFT_4 duality. In contrast to the familiar large-spin limit J \to \infty where each magnon momentum scales as p \sim 1/J << 1, we consider a novel "large-winding" limit in which the total momentum becomes infinitely large, \sum_j p_j \to \infty. Upon taking the limit we identify "spinon" excitations of both gauge and string theories. In particular, a (classical) string spinon turns out to be an infinite set of spiky strings, which are closely related to well-known infinite-spin strings: giant magnons. Furthermore, …
The giant magnon is a rotating spiky string configuration which has the same dispersion relation between the energy and angular momentum as that of a spin magnon. In this paper we investigate the effects of the NS-NS and Melvin fields on the giant magnon. We first analyze the energy and angular momenta of the two-spin spiky D-string moving on the $AdS_3\times S^1$ with the NS-NS field. Due to the infinite boundary of the AdS spacetime the D-string solution will extend to infinity and it appears the divergences. After adding the counter terms we obtain the dispersion relation of the correspondi…
In the framework of the semiclassical approach, we compute the normalized structure constants in three-point correlation functions, when two of the vertex operators correspond to heavy string states, while the third vertex corresponds to a light state. This is done for the case when the heavy string states are finite-size giant magnons with one or two angular momenta, and for two different choices of the light state, corresponding to dilaton operator and primary scalar operator. The relevant operators in the dual gauge theory are Tr(F_{μν}^2 Z^j+...) and Tr(Z^j). We first consider the case of …
We compute some normalized structure constants in the $η$-deformed $AdS_5\times S^5$ in the framework of the semiclassical approach. This is done for the cases when the "heavy" string states are finite-size giant magnons carrying one angular momentum and for three different choices of the "light" state: primary scalar operators, dilaton operator with nonzero momentum, singlet scalar operators on higher string levels. Since the dual field theory is still unknown, the results obtained here must be considered as conjectures or as predictions from the string theory side. Keywords: Gauge/string dua…
The motion of strings on symmetric space target spaces underlies the integrability of the AdS/CFT correspondence. Although these theories, whose excitations are giant magnons, are non-relativistic they are classically equivalent, via the Polhmeyer reduction, to a relativistic integrable field theory known as a symmetric space sine-Gordon theory. These theories can be formulated as integrable deformations of gauged WZW models. In this work we consider the class of symmetric spaces CP^{n+1} and solve the corresponding generalized sine-Gordon theories at the quantum level by finding the exact spe…
The investigation of the q deformation of the S-matrix for excitations on the string world sheet in AdS5 x S5 is continued. We argue that due to the lack of Lorentz invariance the situation is more subtle than in a relativistic theory in that the nature of bound states depends on their momentum. At low enough momentum |p|<E the bound states transform in the anti-symmetric representation of the super-algebra symmetry and become the solitons of the Pohlmeyer reduced theory in the relativistic limit. At a critical momentum |p|=E they become marginally unstable, and at higher momenta the stable bo…
We probe the open fundamental strings in Dp-brane (p=1, 3, 5) backgrounds and find new classes of rotating and orbiting string solutions. We show that for various worldsheet embedding ansatz we get solutions of the string equations of motion that correspond to the well known giant magnon and single spikes, in addition to few new solutions corresponding to the orbiting strings. We make a systematic study of both rigidly rotating and orbiting strings in D1, D3 and D5-brane backgrounds.
We first focus on the finite-gap formalism for type IIB strings in AdS_3 x S^1, which allows to encode the semiclassical spectrum of a very large family of string solutions in a Riemann surface, the spectral curve. Then, we show that, in the large angular momentum limit, it separates into two distinct surfaces, allowing the derivation of an explicit expression for the spectrum, which is correspondingly characterised by two separate branches. The latter may be interpreted in terms of two kinds of spikes appearing on the strings: "large" spikes, yielding an infinite contribution to the energy an…
We study the finite size effect of rigidly rotating strings and closed folded strings in $AdS_3\times S^3$ geometry with NS-NS B-field. We calculate the classical exponential corrections to the dispersion relation of infinite size giant magnon and single spike in terms of Lambert $\mathbf{W}-$function. We also write the analytic expression for the dispersion relation of finite size Gubser-Klebanov-Polyakov (GKP) string in the form of Lambert $\mathbf{W}-$function.
We construct and thoroughly study a new integrable example of the AdS/CFT correspondence with Schrödinger symmetry. On the gravity side, the supergravity solution depends on two parameters and is obtained by marginally deforming the internal space of the Schrödinger background through a series of TsT transformations. On the field theory side, we identify the dual field theory which also depends on two parameters. We find a point-like string solution and derive its dispersion relation. A non-trivial test of the correspondence is provided by using the Landau-Lifshitz coherent state approach to r…
We study rigidly rotating strings in the $\varkappa$-deformed $AdS_3 \times S^3$ background. We find out two classes of solutions corresponding to the giant magnon and single spike solutions of the string rotating in two $S^2_{\varkappa}$ subspace of rotations reduced along two different isometries. We verify that the dispersion relations reduce to the well known relation in the $\varkappa\rightarrow 0$ limit. We further study some oscillating string solutions in the $S^3_{\varkappa}$ subspace.
We study rigidly rotating strings in the background of AdS3 x S3 with Neveu-Schwarz (NS) fluxes. We find two interesting limiting cases corresponding to the known giant magnon and the new single spike solution of strings in the above background and write down the dispersion relations among various conserved charges. We use proper regularization to find the correct relations among them. We further study the circular and infinite spiky strings on AdS and study their properties.
