In this paper, nonlocal symmetries for the bilinear KP and bilinear BKP equations are re-studied. Two arbitrary parameters are introduced in these nonlocal symmetries by considering gauge invariance of the bilinear KP and bilinear BKP equations under the transformation $f\longrightarrow fe^{ax+by+ct}$. By expanding these nonlocal symmetries in powers of each of two parameters, we have derived two types of bilinear NKP hierarchies and two types of bilinear NBKP hierarchies. An impressive observation is that bilinear positive and negative KP and BKP hierarchies may be derived from the same nonlocal symmetries for the KP and BKP equations. Besides, as two concrete examples, we have deived bilinear Bäcklund transformations for $t_{-2}$-flow of the NKP hierarchy and $t_{-1}$-flow of the NBKP hierarchy. All these results have made it clear that more nice integrable properties would be found for these obtained NKP hierarchies and NBKP hierarchies. Since KP and BKP hierarchies have played an essential role in soliton theory, we believe that the bilinear NKP and NBKP hierarchies will have their right place in this field.
In this paper, we succeed to bilinearize the $\cal{PT}$-invariant nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger (NNLS) equation through a nonstandard procedure and present more general bright soliton solutions. We achieve this by bilinearizing both the NNLS equation and its associated parity transformed complex conjugate equation in a novel way. The obtained one and two soliton solutions are invariant under combined space and time reversal transformations and are more general than the known ones. Further, by considering the two-soliton solution we bring out certain novel interaction properties of the $\cal{P…
A bilinearisation-reduction approach is described for finding solutions for nonlocal integrable systems and is illustrated with nonlocal discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equations. In this approach we first bilinearise the coupled system before reduction and derive its double Casoratian solutions, then we impose reduction on double Casoratians so that they coincide with the nonlocal reduction on potentials. Double Caosratian solutions of the classical and nonlocal (reverse space, reverse time and reverse space-time) discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equations are presented.
As with nonlocal continuous and semi-discrete integrable systems, the study of nonlocal discrete integrable systems is also of interest. In this paper, local and nonlocal reductions of a fully discrete negative order Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur equation are investigated. We give out the exact solutions in double Casoratian form to the reduced nonlocal discrete sine-Gordon equations by the bilinearization reduction method. Then, through the continuum limits, nonlocal semi-discrete sine-Gordon equations and their solutions are obtained. The dynamics of soliton solutions are analyzed and illustrat…
An extension of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy defined via scalar pseudo-differential operators was studied in [16, 20]. In this paper, we represent the extended KP hierarchy into the form of bilinear equation of (adjoint) Baker-Akhiezer functions, and construct its additional symmetries. As a byproduct, we derive the Virasoro symmetries for the constrained KP hierarchies.
We discuss nonlocal symmetries and nonlocal conservation laws that follow from the systematic potentialisation of evolution equations. Those are the Lie point symmetries of the auxiliary systems, also known as potential symmetries. We define higher-degree potential symmetries which then lead to nonlocal conservation laws and nonlocal transformations for the equations. We demonstrate our approach by the Burgers' hierarchy and the Calogero-Degasperis-Ibragimov-Shabat hierarchy.
Infinitely many nonlocal symmetries and conservation laws of the (1+1)-dimensional Sine-Gordon (SG) equation are derived in terms of its Bäcklund transformation (BT). Some special nonlocal symmetries and nonlocal conservation laws are obtained from the linearized equations of the SG equation and its BT. Furthermore, one can derive infinitely many nonlocal symmetries from a known nonlocal symmetry, but also infinitely many nonlocal conservation laws from a known nonlocal conservation law. In addition, infinitely many local and nonlocal conservation laws can be directed generated from BT through…
Nonlocal symmetries for exactly integrable two-field evolutionary systems of the third order have been computed. Differentiation of the nonlocal symmetries with respect to spatial variable gives a few nonevolutionary systems for each evolutionary system. Zero curvature representations for some new nonevolution systems are presented.
In this paper, the PT -symmetric version of the Maccari system is introduced, which can be regarded as a two-dimensional generalization of the defocusing nonlocal nonlinear Schrodinger equation. Various exact solutions of the nonlocal Maccari system are obtained by means of the Hirota bilinear method, long-wave limit, and Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy method. Bilinear forms of the nonlocal Maccari system are derived for the first time. Simultaneously, a new nonlocal Davey-Stewartson-type equation is derived. Solutions for breathers and breathers on top of periodic line waves are obtai…
We find direct and inverse recursion operators for integrable cases of the rmdKP and rdDym equations. Also, we study actions of these operators on the contact symmetries and find shadows of nonlocal symmetries of these equations.
We prove that any potential symmetry of a system of evolution equations reduces to a Lie symmetry through a nonlocal transformation of variables. Based on this fact is our method of group classification of potential symmetries of systems of evolution equations having non-trivial Lie symmetry. Next, we modify the above method to generate more general nonlocal symmetries, which yields a purely algebraic approach to classifying nonlocal symmetries of evolution type systems. Several examples are considered.
We present a recursion operator and an infinite hierarchy of nonlocal commuting symmetries for the modified Martinez Alonso-Shabat equation $u_y u_{xz} + αu_x u_{ty} - (u_z + αu_t)u_{xy} = 0$.
We propose a systemic method of applying the auxiliary systems of original equations to find the high order nonlocal symmetries of nonlinear evolution equation. In order to validate the effectiveness of the method, some examples are presented.
Using the Lax representation with non-removable parameter, we construct two hierarchies of nonlocal conservation laws for the 3D rdDym equation $u_{ty} = u_xu_{xy} - u_yu_{xx}$ and describe the algebras of nonlocal symmetries in the corresponding coverings.
We suggest the method for group classification of evolution equations admitting nonlocal symmetries which are associated with a given evolution equation possessing nontrivial Lie symmetry. We apply this method to second-order evolution equations in one spatial variable invariant under Lie algebras of the dimension up to three. As a result, we construct the broad families of new nonlinear evolution equations possessing nonlocal symmetries which in principle cannot be obtained within the classical Lie approach.
In this paper, nonlocal symmetries and exact solutions of variable coefficient Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation are studied for the first time. Using pseudo-potential, high order nonlocal symmetries of time-dependent coefficient KdV equation are obtained. In order to construct new exact analytic solutions, new variables are introduced, which can transform nonlocal symmetries into Lie point symmetries. Furthermore, using the Lie point symmetries of closed system, we give symmetry reduction and some exact analytic solutions. For some interesting solutions, such as interaction solutions among sol…
We consider the Calogero-Degasperis-Ibragimov-Shabat (CDIS) equation and find the complete set of its nonlocal symmetries depending on the local variables and on the integral of the only local conserved density of the equation in question. The Lie algebra of these symmetries turns out to be a central extension of that of local generalized symmetries.
We study the Veronese web equation $u_y u_{tx}+ λu_xu_{ty} - (λ+1)u_tu_{xy} =0$ and using its isospectral Lax pair construct two infinite series of nonlocal conservation laws. In the infinite differential coverings associated to these series, we describe the Lie algebras of the corresponding nonlocal symmetries. Finally, we construct a recursion operator and explore its action on nonlocal shadows. The operator provides a new shadow which serves as a master-symmetry.
Zero curvature formulations, pseudo-potentials, modified versions, ``Miura transformations'', and nonlocal symmetries of the Korteweg--de Vries, Camassa-- Holm and Hunter--Saxton equations are investigated from an unified point of view: these three equations belong to a two--parameters family of equations ``describing pseudo-spherical surfaces'', and therefore their basic integrability properties can be studied by geometrical means.
The (2+1)-dimensional higher-order Broer-Kaup (HBK) system is studied by nonlocal symmetry method and consistent tanh expansion (CTE) method in this paper. Some exact interaction solutions among different nonlinear excitations such as solitons, rational waves, periodic waves and corresponding images are explicitly given.
In this paper we devise a systematic procedure to obtain nonlocal symmetries of a class of scalar nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) of arbitrary order related to linear ODEs through nonlocal relations. The procedure makes use of the Lie point symmetries of the linear ODEs and the nonlocal connection to deduce the nonlocal symmetries of the corresponding nonlinear ODEs. Using these nonlocal symmetries we obtain reduction transformations and reduced equations to specific examples. We find the reduced equations can be explicitly integrated to deduce the general solutions for these …
We construct new infinite hierarchies of nonlocal symmetries and cosymmetries for the Krichever--Novikov equation using the inverse of the fourth-order recursion operator of the latter.
In this paper, using the standard truncated Painleve analysis, the Schwartzian equation of (2+1)-dimensional generalised variable coefficient shallow water wave (SWW)equation is obtained. With the help of lax pairs, nonlocal symmetries of the SWW equation are constructed which be localized by a complicated calculation process. Furthermore, using the Lie point symmetries of the closed system and Schwartzian equation, some exact interaction solutions are obtained, such as soliton-cnoidal wave solutions. Corresponding 2D and 3D figures are placed on illustrate dynamic behavior of the generalised …
Writing the Hirota-Satsuma (HS) system of equations in a symmetrical form we find its local and new nonlocal reductions. It turns out that all reductions of the HS system are Korteweg-de Vries (KdV), complex KdV, and new nonlocal KdV equations. We obtain one-soliton solutions of these KdV equations by using the method of Hirota bilinearization.
We consider the 3D equation $u_{yy} = u_{tx} + u_yu_{xx} - u_xu_{xy}$ and its 2D reductions: (1) $u_{yy} = (u_y+y)u_{xx}-u_xu_{xy}-2$ (which is equivalent to the Gibbons-Tsarev equation) and (2) $u_{yy} = (u_y+2x)u_{xx} + (y-u_x)u_{xy} -u_x$. Using reduction of the known Lax pair for the 3D equation, we describe nonlocal symmetries of~(1) and~(2) and show that the Lie algebras of these symmetries are isomorphic to the Witt algebra.
We consider the four-dimensional integrable Martinez Alonso--Shabat equation, and list three integrable three-dimensional reductions thereof. We also present a four-dimensional integrable modified Martinez Alonso--Shabat equation together with its Lax pair. We also construct an infinite hierarchy of commuting nonlocal symmetries (and not just the shadows, as it is usually the case in the literature) for the Martinez Alonso--Shabat equation.
Using the lax pair, nonlocal symmetry of the coupled Hirota equation is obtained. By introducing an appropriate auxiliary dependent variable the nonlocal symmetry is successfully localized to a Lie point symmetry. For the closed prolongation, one-dimensional optimal systems and nonlocal conservation laws of the coupled Hirota equation are studied.
The technique of Darboux transformation is applied to nonlocal partner of two-dimensional periodic A_{n-1} Toda lattice. This system is shown to admit a representation as the compatibility conditions of direct and dual overdetermined linear systems with quantized spectral parameter. The generalization of the Darboux transformation technique on linear equations of such a kind is given. The connections between the solutions of overdetermined linear systems and their expansions in series at singular points neighborhood are presented. The solutions of the nonlocal Toda lattice and infinite hierarc…
The nonlocal symmetries for the modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (mKP) equation are obtained with the truncated Painleve method. The nonlocal symmetries can be localized to the Lie point symmetries by introducing auxiliary dependent variables. The finite symmetry transformations and similarity reductions related with the nonlocal symmetries are computed. The multi-solitary wave solution and interaction solutions among a soliton and the cnoidal waves of the mKP equation are presented. In the meanwhile, the consistent tanh expansion (CTE) method is applied to the mKP equation. The explicit intera…
In this paper, symmetry analysis is extended to study nonlocal differential equations, in particular two integrable nonlocal equations, the nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the nonlocal modified Korteweg--de Vries equation. Lie point symmetries are obtained based on a general theory and used to reduce these equations to nonlocal and local ordinary differential equations separately; namely one symmetry may allow reductions to both nonlocal and local equations depending on how the invariant variables are chosen. For the nonlocal modified Korteweg--de Vries equation, analogously to the…
We first construct a $(2+1)$-dimensional negative AKNS hierarchy and then we give all possible local and (discrete) nonlocal reductions of these equations. We find Hirota bilinear forms of the negative AKNS hierarchy and give one- and two-soliton solutions. By using the soliton solutions of the negative AKNS hierarchy we find one-soliton solutions of the local and nonlocal reduced equations.
We have constructed new formulae for generation of solutions for the nonlinear heat equation and for the Burgers equation that are based on linearizing nonlocal transformations and on nonlocal symmetries of linear equations. Found nonlocal symmetries and formulae of nonlocal nonlinear superposition of solutions of these equations were used then for construction of chains of exact solutions. Linearization by means of the Legendre transformations of a second-order PDE with three independent variables allowed to obtain nonlocal superposition formulae for solutions of this equation, and to generat…
We study the local and shifted nonlocal reductions of the integrable coupled Kundu type system. We then consider particular cases of this system; namely Chen-Lee-Liu, Gerdjikov-Ivanov, and Kaup-Newell systems. We obtain one- and two-soliton solutions of these systems and their local and shifted nonlocal reductions by the Hirota bilinear method. We present particular examples for one- and two-soliton solutions of the reduced local and shifted nonlocal Chen-Lee-Liu, Gerdjikov-Ivanov, and Kaup-Newell equations.
We consider the 4D Mart\'ınez Alonso-Shabat equation $u_{ty} = u_z u_{xy} - u_y u_{xz}$ (also referred to as the universal hierarchy equation) and using its known Lax pair construct two infinite-dimensional differential coverings over $\mathcal{E}$. In these coverings, we give a complete description of the Lie algebras of nonlocal symmetries. In particular, our results generalize the ones obtained in [O.I.Morozov, A.Sergyeyev, The four-dimensional Mart\'ınez Alonso-shabat equation: reductions and nonlocal symmetries. J. of Geom. and Phys. 85 (2014), 40--45 (arXiv:1401.7942v2)] and contain the …
We construct infinite hierarchies of nonlocal higher symmetries for the oriented associativity equations using solutions of associated vector and scalar spectral problems. The symmetries in question generalize those found by Chen, Kontsevich and Schwarz (arXiv:hep-th/0508221) for the WDVV equations. As a byproduct, we obtain a Darboux-type transformation and a (conditional) Bäcklund transformation for the oriented associativity equations.
We study standard and nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations obtained from the coupled NLS system of equations (Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur (AKNS) equations) by using standard and nonlocal reductions respectively. By using the Hirota bilinear method we first find soliton solutions of the coupled NLS system of equations then using the reduction formulas we find the soliton solutions of the standard and nonlocal NLS equations. We give examples for particular values of the parameters and plot the function $|q(t,x)|^2$ for the standard and nonlocal NLS equations.
We continue here the study of Lax integrable equations. We consider four three-dimensional equations: (1) the rdDym equation $u_{ty} = u_x u_{xy} - u_y u_{xx}$, (2) the 3D Pavlov equation $u_{yy} = u_{tx} + u_y u_{xx} - u_x u_{xy}$; (3) the universal hierarchy equation $u_{yy} = u_t u_{xy} - u_y u_{tx}$, and (4) the modified Veronese web equation $u_{ty} = u_t u_{xy} - u_y u_{tx}$. For each equation, using the know Lax pairs and expanding the latter in formal series in spectral parameter, we construct two infinite-dimensional differential coverings and give a full description of nonlocal symme…
We give a general account of nonlocal symmetries in symmetric space models and their relation to the AdS/CFT correspondence. In particular, we study a master symmetry which generates the spectral parameter and acts as a level-raising operator on the classical Yangian generators. The master symmetry extends to an infinite tower of symmetries with nonlocal Casimir elements as associated conserved charges. We discuss the algebraic properties of these symmetries and establish their role in explaining the recently observed one-parameter deformation of holographic Wilson loops. Finally, we provide a…
In this paper, we take advantage of the bilinearization reduction method to consider the local and nonlocal reduction of a discrete Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur equation. Exact solutions in double Casoratian form to the reduced nonlocal discrete modified Korteweg de-Vries equations are constructed. The dynamics of soliton solutions are analyzed and illustrated by asymptotic analysis. Moreover, both semi-continuous limit and full continuous limit, are applied to obtain the local and nonlocal semi-discrete modified Korteweg de-Vries equations, as well as the local and nonlocal continuous modified …
In this paper we present a reduction technique based on bilinearization and double Wronskians (or double Casoratians) to obtain explicit multi-soliton solutions for the integrable space-time shifted nonlocal equations introduced very recently by Ablowitz and Musslimani in [Phys. Lett. A, 2021]. Examples include the space-time shifted nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger and modified Korteweg-de Vries hierarchies and the semi-discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation. It is shown that these nonlocal integrable equations with or without space-time shift(s) reduction share same distributions of eigenvalu…
The nonlocal symmetry is derived from the known Darboux transformation (DT) of the Hirota-Satsuma coupled KdV (HS-cKdV) system, and infinitely many nonlocal symmetries are obtained by introducing some internal parameters. By extending the HS-cKdV system to an auxiliary system with five dependent variables, the prolongation is found to localize the nonlocal symmetry related to the DT. Base on the enlarged system, the finite symmetry transformations and similarity reductions about the local symmetries are computed, which lead to some novel exact solutions of the HS-cKdV system. These solutions c…
We consider the recursion operators with nonlocal terms of special form for evolution systems in (1+1) dimensions, and extend them to well-defined operators on the space of nonlocal symmetries associated with the so-called universal Abelian coverings over these systems. The extended recursion operators are shown to leave this space invariant. These results apply, in particular, to the recursion operators of the majority of known today (1+1)-dimensional integrable evolution systems. We also present some related results and describe the extension of them and of the above results to (1+1)-dimensi…
In this paper, we introduce the reverse-space and reverse-space-time nonlocal discrete derivative nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) equations through the nonlocal symmetry reductions of the semi-discrete Gerdjikov-Ivanov equation. The muti-soliton solutions of two types of nonlocal discrete derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations are derived by means of the Hirota bilinear method and reduction approach. We also investigate the dynamics of soliton solutions and reveal the rich soliton structures in the reverse-space and reverse-space-time nonlocal discrete DNLS equations. Our investigation shows …
It is well known that integrable hierarchies in (1+1) dimensions are local while the recursion operators that generate them usually contain nonlocal terms. We resolve this apparent discrepancy by providing simple and universal sufficient conditions for a (nonlocal) recursion operator in (1+1) dimensions to generate a hierarchy of local symmetries. These conditions are satisfied by virtually all known today recursion operators and are much easier to verify than those found in earlier work. We also give explicit formulas for the nonlocal parts of higher recursion operators, Poisson and symplecti…
In this paper, the Fokas-Lenells equations are investigated via bilinear approach. We bilinearize the unreduced Fokas-Lenells system, derive double Wronskian solutions, and then, by means of a reduction technique we obtain variety of solutions of the reduced equations. This enables us to have a full profile of solutions of the classical and nonlocal Fokas-Lenells equations. Some obtained solutions are illustrated based on asymptotic analysis. As a notable new result, we obtain solutions to the Fokas-Lenells equation, which are related to real discrete eigenvalues and not reported before in the…
We present new recursion operators for (shadows of nonlocal) symmetries of the 4D Martínez Alonso-Shabat equation $u_{ty} = u_z u_{xy} - u_y u_{xz}$, and we show that their actions can produce new symmetries which are not contained in the Lie algebra of nonlocal symmetries presented in [I.S.Krasil'shchik, P.Vojčák, On the algebra of nonlocal symmetries for the 4D Martínez Alonso-Shabat equation. J. of Geom. and Phys. 163, (2021), 104122, (arXiv:2008.10281v1)]. To this end, we construct a non-Abelian covering of the equation in question using the Lax pair with two non-removable parameters.
Inspired by the works of Ablowitz, Mussliman and Fokas, a partial reverse space-time nonlocal Mel'nikov equation is introduced. This equation provides two dimensional analogues of the nonlocal Schrodinger-Boussinesq equation. By employing the Hirota's bilinear method, soliton, breathers and mixed solutions consisting of breathers and periodic line waves are obtained. Further, taking a long wave limit of these obtained soliton solutions, rational and semi-rational solutions of the nonlocal Mel'nikov equation are derived. The rational solutions are lumps. The semi-rational solutions are mixed so…
We investigate the symmetry properties of a pair of Ermakov equations. The system is superintegrable and yet possesses only three Lie point symmetries with the algebra sl(2,R). The number of point symmetries is insufficient and the algebra unsuitable for the complete specification of the system. We use the method of reduction of order to reduce the nonlinear fourth-order system to a third-order system comprising a linear second-order equation and a conservation law. We obtain the representation of the complete symmetry group from this system. Four of the required symmetries are nonlocal and th…
In this paper, we construct degenerate soliton solutions (which preserve $\cal{PT}$-symmetry/break $\cal{PT}$-symmetry) to the nonlocal Manakov system through a nonstandard bilinear procedure. Here by degenerate we mean the solitons that are present in both the modes which propagate with same velocity. The degenerate nonlocal soliton solution is constructed after briefly indicating the form of nondegenerate one-soliton solution. To derive these soliton solutions, we simultaneously solve the nonlocal Manakov equation and a pair of coupled equations that arise from the zero curvature condition. …
In this work, by using the Hirota bilinear method, we obtain one- and two-soliton solutions of integrable $(2+1)$-dimensional $3$-component Maccari system which is used as a model describing isolated waves localized in a very small part of space and related to very well-known systems like nonlinear Schrödinger, Fokas, and long wave resonance systems. We represent all local and Ablowitz-Musslimani type nonlocal reductions of this system and obtain new integrable systems. By the help of reduction formulas and soliton solutions of the $3$-component Maccari system, we obtain one- and two-soliton s…
General soliton solutions to a nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation with PT-symmetry for both zero and nonzero boundary conditions {are considered} via the combination of Hirota's bilinear method and the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy reduction method. First, general $N$-soliton solutions with zero boundary conditions are constructed. Starting from the tau functions of the two-component KP hierarchy, it is shown that they can be expressed in terms of either Gramian or double Wronskian determinants. On the contrary, from the tau functions of single component KP hierarchy, genera…
