We consider a family E_m(D,M) of holomorphic bundles constructed as follows: to any given M in GL_n(Z), we associate a "multiplicative automorphism" f of (C*)^n. Now let D be a f-invariant Stein Reinhardt domain in (C*)^n. Then E_m(D,M) is defined as the flat bundle over the annulus of modulus m>0, with fiber D, and monodromy f. We show that the function theory on E_m(D,M) depends nontrivially on the parameters m, M and D. Our main result is that
E_m(D,M) is Stein if and only if m log(r(M)) <= 2 π^2, where r(M) denotes the max of the spectral radii of M and its inverse. As corollaries, we: -- obtain a classification result for Reinhardt domains in all dimensions; -- establish a similarity between two known counterexamples to a question of J.-P. Serre; -- suggest a potential reformulation of a disproved conjecture of Siu Y.-T.
In this paper, we prove a lemma on logarithmic derivative for holomorphic curves from annuli into Kähler compact manifold and. As its application, a second main theorem for holomophic curves from annuli into semi abelian varieties intersecting with only one divisor is given.
We extend and simplify results of \cite{Din~2009} where the asymptotic behavior of the holomorphic sectional curvature of the Bergman metric in annuli is studied. Similarly as in \cite{Din~2009} the description enables us to construct an infinitely connected planar domain (in our paper it is a Zalcman type domain) for which the supremum of the holomorphic sectional curvature is two whereas its infimum is equal to $-\infty$.
Neretin and Segal independently defined a semigroup of annuli with boundary parametrizations, which is viewed as a complexification of the group of diffeomorphisms of the circle. By extending the parametrizations to quasisymmetries, we show that this semigroup is a quotient of the Teichmueller space of doubly-connected Riemann surfaces by a Z action. Furthermore, the semigroup can be given a complex structure in two distinct, natural ways. We show that these two complex structures are equivalent, and furthermore that multiplication is holomorphic. Finally, we show that the class of quasiconfor…
We show, e.g., that a holomorphic Banach vector bundle over a pseudoconvex open subset of, say, Hilbert space is holomorphically trivial if it is continuously trivial. Some applications are also given.
We show how to extend some holomorphic bundles with fifer C^2 and base an open set in C, to bundles on the Riemann Sphere, by an extremely simple technique. In particular, it applies to examples of non-Stein bundles constructed by Skoda and Demailly. It gives an example on C, with polynomial transition automorphisms.
Given several sequences of Hermitian holomorphic line bundles $\{(L_{kp}, h_{kp})\}_{p=1}^{\infty}$, we establish the distribution of common zeros of random holomorphic sections of $L_{kp}$ with respect to singular measures. We also study the dimension growth for a sequence of pseudo-effective line bundles.
We prove a sharp Ohsawa-Takegoshi-Manivel type extension result for twisted holomorphic sections of singular hermitian line bundles over almost Stein manifolds. We establish as corollaries some extension results for pluri-twisted holomorphic sections of singular hermitian line bundles over projective manifolds.
This paper is motivated by Grothendieck's splitting theorem. In the 1960s, Gohberg generalized this to a class of Banach bundles. We consider a compact complex manifold $X$ and a holomorphic Banach bundle $E \to X$ that is a compact perturbation of a trivial bundle in a sense recently introduced by Lempert. We prove that $E$ splits into the sum of a finite rank bundle and a trivial bundle, provided $H^{1}(X, Ø)=0$.
We establish triviality of some holomorphic Banach vector bundles on the maximal ideal space of the Banach algebra of bounded holomorphic functions on the unit disk with pointwise multiplication and supremum norm. We apply the result to the study of the Sz.-Nagy operator corona problem.
We obtain the Bogomolov-Sommese type vanishing theorem involving multiplier ideal sheaves for big line bundles. We define a dual Nakano semi-positivity of singular Hermitian metrics with L2-estimates and prove the vanishing theorem which is a generalization of the Bogomolov-Sommese type vanishing theorem to holomorphic vector bundles.
We investigate the accumulation to singular points of leaves of codimension one foliations whose normal bundle is ample, with emphasis on the nonexistence of Levi-flat hypersurfaces.
We prove the convergence of the normalized Fubini-Study measures and the logarithms of the Bergman kernels of various Bergman spaces of holomorphic and weakly holomorphic sections associated to a singular Hermitian holomorphic line bundle on an algebraic curve. Using this, we study the asymptotic distribution of the zeros of random sequences of sections in these spaces.
In this paper, we study the regular quantizations of Kähler manifolds by using the first two coefficients of Bergman function expansions. Firstly, we obtain sufficient and necessary conditions for certain Hermitian holomorphic vector bundles and their ball subbundles to be regular quantizations. Secondly, we obtain that some projective bundles over the Fano manifolds $M$ admit regular quantizations if and only if $M$ are biholomorphically isomorphism to the complex projective spaces. Finally, we obtain the balanced metrics on certain Hermitian holomorphic vector bundles and their ball subbundl…
We consider a compact complex manifold $M$, and introduce the notion of two holomorphic Banach bundles $E,F$ over $M$ being compact perturbations of one another. Given two such bundles we show that if the cohomology groups $H^q(M,E)$ are finite dimensional then so are the cohomology groups $H^q(M,F)$; as well as a more precise result in the same spirit.
In 1985 Diederich and Ohsawa proved that every disc bundle over a compact Kähler manifold is weakly 1-complete. In this paper, under certain conditions we generalize this result to the case of fiber bundles over compact Kähler manifolds whose fibers are bounded symmetric domains. Moreover if the bundle is obtained by the diagonal action on the product of irreducible bounded symmetric domains, we show that it is hyperconvex.
In this article, we prove that if $Π: X\to Ω$ is a surjective holomorphic map, with $Ω$ a Stein space and $X$ a complex manifold of dimension $n\geq 3,$ and if, for every $x\in Ω$ there exists an open neighborhood $U$ such that $Π^{-1}(U)$ is Stein, then $X$ is Stein
We consider a problem of whether a property of holomorphic curves on a subset $X$ of the complex plane can be extended to the whole complex plane. In this paper, the property we consider is uniqueness of holomorphic curves. We introduce the propagation set. Simply speaking, $X$ is a propagation set if linear relation of holomorphic curves on the part of preimage of hyperplanes contained in $X$ can be extended to the whole complex plane. If the holomorphic curves are of infinite order, we prove the existence of a propagation set which is the union of a sequence of disks (In fact, the method app…
We give a proof of the following theorem of M. Gromov (Oka's principle for holomorphic sections of elliptic bundles, J. Amer. Math. Soc., 2 (1989), 851-897). Let Z be a holomorphic fiber bundle over a Stein manifold. If the fiber of Z admits a dominating holomorphic spray then the inclusion of the space of global holomorphic sections of Z into the space of continuous sections is a weak homotopy equivalence. In the classical case when the fiber is a complex Lie group or a homogeneous space this was proved by H. Grauert (Math. Ann., 135 (1958), 263--273). For further results in this direction se…
We construct a pair (E ,F), where E is a holomorphic vector bundle over a compact Riemann surface and F a holomorphic subbundle of E, such that both F and E/F admit holomorphic connections, but E does not.
Consider a domain $\varOmega$ in $\mathbb{C}^n$ with $n\geqslant 2$ and a compact subset $K\subset\varOmega$ such that $\varOmega\backslash K$ is connected. We address the problem whether a holomorphic line bundle defined on $\varOmega\backslash K$ extends to $\varOmega$. In 2013, Fornæss, Sibony and Wold gave a positive answer in dimension $n\geqslant 3$, when $\varOmega$ is pseudoconvex and $K$ is a sublevel set of a strongly plurisubharmonic exhaustion function. However, for $K$ of general shape, we construct counterexamples in any dimension $n\geqslant 2$. The key is a certain gluing lemma…
In this paper, we give a combinatorial formula for the Čech cocycles representing the power sums of the Chern roots of a holomorphic vector bundle over a complex manifold. By an observation motivation by author's previous paper, we also construct some new holomorphic invariants refining the Chern classes. Firstly, we define the refined first $T$ invariants for all holomorphic vector bundles (or $\mathcal Q$-flat classes in the line bundle case) and give a criterion for determining whether a manifold has a line bundle whose $\mathcal Q$-flat class is strictly finer than its first Chern class in…
We generalize Chirka's theorem on the extension of functions holomorphic in a neighbourhood of graph(F)\cup(\partial D\times D) -- where D is the open unit disc and graph(F) denotes the graph of a continuous D-valued function F -- to the bidisc. We extend holomorphic functions by applying the Kontinuitaetssatz to certain continuous families of analytic annuli, which is a procedure suited to configurations not covered by Chirka's theorem.
In this paper we extend results due to Vogt on line bundles over Cousin groups to the case of domains stable by the maximal compact subgroup. This is used in the sequel to show that the algebraic dimension of OT-manifolds is zero. In the last part we establish that certain Cousin groups, in particular those arising from the construction of OT-manifolds, have finite-dimensional irregularity.
Given a compact complex manifold $M$, we investigate the holomorphic vector bundles $E$ on $M$ such that $φ^* E$ is trivial for some surjective holomorphic map $φ$, to $M$, from some compact complex manifold. We prove that these are exactly those holomorphic vector bundles that admit a flat holomorphic connection with finite monodromy homomorphism. A similar result is proved for holomorphic principal $G$-bundles, where $G$ is a connected reductive complex affine algebraic group.
We prove that actions of complex reductive Lie groups on a holomorphic vector bundle over a complex compact manifold are locally extendable to its local moduli space.
We characterize operator-theoretic properties (boundedness, compactness, and Schatten class membership) of Toeplitz operators with positive measure symbols on Bergman spaces of holomorphic hermitian line bundles over Kähler Cartan-Hadamard manifolds in terms of geometric or operator-theoretic properties of measures.
In the present paper, we study the properties of singular Nakano positivity of singular hermitian metrics on holomorphic vector bundles, and establish an optimal $L^2$ extension theorem for holomorphic vector bundles with singular hermitian metrics on weakly pseudoconvex Kähler manifolds. As applications, we give a necessary condition for the holding of the equality in optimal $L^2$ extension theorem, and present singular hermitian holomorphic vector bundle versions of some $L^2$ extension theorems with optimal estimate.
It is in general unknown which topological complex vector bundles on a non-algebraic surface admit holomorphic structures. We solve this problem for primary Kodaira surfaces by using results of Kani on curves of genus two with elliptic differentials. Some of the corresponding moduli spaces will be smooth compact and holomorphically symplectic.
Chern number formulas for holomorphic jet bundles are computed for projective curves and for projective surfaces. These formulas are used to show that certain minimal surfaces of general type (generic hypersurfaces of degree at least 5 in projective 3-spaces in particular) are hyperbolic in the sense of complex hyperbolic geometry.
We prove an extension theorem for roots and logarithms of holomorphic line bundles across strictly pseudoconcave boundaries: they extend in all cases except one, when dimension and Morse index of a critical point is two. In that case we give an explicit description of obstructions to the extension.
The existence problem for vector bundles on a smooth compact complex surface consists in determining which topological complex vector bundles admit holomorphic structures. For projective surfaces, Schwarzenberger proved that a topological complex vector bundle admits a holomorphic (algebraic) structure if and only if its first Chern class belongs to the Neron-Severi group of the surface. In contrast, for non-projective surfaces there is only a necessary condition for the existence problem (the discriminant of the vector bundles must be positive) and the difficulty of the problem resides in the…
In this paper we study holomorphic vector bundles with singular Hermitian metrics whose curvature are Hermitian matrix currents. We obtain an extension theorem for holomorphic jet sections of nef holomorphic vector bundle on compact Kähler manifolds. Using it we prove that Fano manifolds with strong Griffiths nef tangent bundles are rational homogeneous spaces.
We generalize a construction of Hitchin to prove that, given any compact Kähler manifold $M$ with positive holomorphic sectional curvature and any holomorphic vector bundle $E$ over $M$, the projectivized vector bundle ${\mathbb P}(E)$ admits a Kähler metric with positive holomorphic sectional curvature.
In this paper we provide sufficient conditions for maps of vector bundles on smooth projective varieties to be uniquely determined by their degeneracy schemes. We then specialize to holomorphic distributions and foliations. In particular, we provide sufficient conditions for distributions of arbitrary rank on projective spaces to be uniquely determined by their singular schemes.
Motivated by the Green-Griffiths conjecture, we study maximal rank holomorphic maps from $\C^p$ into complex manifolds. When $p>1$ such maps should in principle be more tractable than entire curves. We extend to this setting the jet-bundles techniques introduced by Semple, Green-Griffiths and Demailly. Our main application is the non-existence of maximal rank holomorphic maps from $\C^2$ into the very general degree $d$ hypersurface in $\bP^4$, as soon as $d\geq 93.$
We study critical points of holomorphic sections of $\ocal(m)$ on $\CP^n$. For quadrics, we give a complete discription of their critical points. When $n=1$, we prove a spherical Gauss-Lucas theorem. For general situation, we prove that a general section has all its critical points isolated and non-degenerate.
The loop space $L\mathbb{P}_1$ of the Riemann sphere consisting of all $C^k$ or Sobolev $W^{k,p}$ maps from the circle $S^1$ to $\mathbb{P}_1$ is an infinite dimensional complex manifold. The loop group $LPGL(2,\mathbb{C})$ acts on $L\mathbb{P}_1$ . We prove that the group of $LPGL(2,\mathbb{C})$ invariant holomorphic line bundles on $L\mathbb{P}_1$ is isomorphic to an infinite dimensional Lie group. Further, we prove that the space of holomorphic sections of these bundles is finite dimensional, and compute the dimension for a generic bundle.
The existence problem for holomorphic structures on vector bundles over non-algebraic surfaces is in general still open. We solve this problem in the case of rank 2 vector bundles over K3 surfaces and in the case of vector bundles of arbitrary rank over all known surfaces of class VII. Our methods, which are based on Donaldson theory and deformation theory, can be used to solve the existence problem of holomorphic vector bundles on further classes of non-algebraic surfaces.
We investigate singular Hermitian metrics on vector bundles, especially strictly Griffiths positive ones. $L^2$ esitimates and vanishing theorems usually require an assumption that vector bundles are Nakano positive. However there is no general definition of the Nakano positivity in singular settings. In this paper, we show various $L^2$ estimates and vanishing theromes by assuming that the vector bundle is strictly Griffiths positive and the base manifold is projective.
We give a complete characterization of invariant integrable complex structures on principal bundles defined over hermitian symmetric spaces, using the Jordan algebraic approach for the curvature computations. In view of possible generalizations, the general setup of invariant holomorphic principal fibre bundles is described in a systematic way.
We prove that the canonical bundle of any holomorphic family of compact complex algebraic manifolds carries a singular Hermitian metric having non-negative curvature current and such that every holomorphic section of the canonical bundle of the central fiber is L^2 with respect to this metric. This result was proved by Siu when the members of the family are general type, and used to establish the deformation invariance of plurigenera in that case. In fact, we prove our result in a more general setting of a smooth hypersurface with not-necessarily normal trivial bundle in a manifold that is Ste…
We show that if a compact complex manifold admits a Kähler metric whose holomorphic sectional curvature is everywhere non positive and strictly negative in at least one point, then its canonical bundle is positive.
We construct an irreducible holomorphic connection with SL(2,R)-monodromy on the trivial holomorphic vector bundle of rank two over a compact Riemann surface. This answers a question of Calsamiglia, Deroin, Heu and Loray in \cite{CDHL}.
We study a tower of normal coverings over a compact Kähler manifold with holomorphic line bundles. When the line bundle is sufficiently positive, we obtain an effective estimate, which implies the Bergman stability. As a consequence, we deduce the equidistribution for zero currents of random holomorphic sections. Furthermore, we obtain a variance estimate for those random zero currents, which yields the almost sure convergence under some geometric condition.
By using asymptotic Morse inequalities we give a lower bound for the space of holomorphic sections of high tensor powers in a positive line bundle over a q-concave domain. The curvature of the positive bundle induces a hermitian metric on the manifold. The bound is given explicitely in terms of the volume of the domain in this metric and a certain integral on the boundary involving the defining function and its Levi form. As application we study the perturbattion of the complex structure of a q-concave manifold.
We establish the equidistribution of zeros of random holomorphic sections of powers of a semipositive singular Hermitian line bundle, with an estimate of the convergence speed.
The subject of this paper is the explicit momentum construction of complete Einstein metrics by ODE methods. Using the Calabi ansatz, further generalized by Hwang-Singer, we show that there are non-trivial complete conformally Kähler Einstein metrics on certain Hermitian holomorphic vector bundles and their subbundles over complete Kähler-Einstein manifolds. In special cases, we give the explicit expressions of of these metrics. These examples show that there is a compact Kähler manifold $M$ and its subvariety $N$ whose codimension is greater than 1 such that there is a complete conformally Kä…
Let X be a compact connected Kaehler manifold such that the holomorphic tangent bundle TX is numerically effective. A theorem of Demailly, Peternell and Schenider says that there is a finite unramified Galois covering M --> X, a complex torus T, and a holomorphic surjective submersion f: M --> T, such that the fibers of f are Fano manifolds with numerically effective tangent bundle. A conjecture of Campana and Peternell says that the fibers of f are rational and homogeneous. Assume that X admits a holomorphic Cartan geometry. We prove that the fibers of f are rational homogeneous varieties. We…
We prove that a smooth complex projective threefold with a Kähler metric of negative holomorphic sectional curvature has ample canonical line bundle. In dimensions greater than three, we prove that, under equal assumptions, the nef dimension of the canonical line bundle is maximal. With certain additional assumptions, ampleness is again obtained. The methods used come from both complex differential geometry and complex algebraic geometry.
We establish a Poincaré-Dulac theorem for sequences (G_n)_n of holomorphic contractions whose differentials d_0 G_n split regularly. The resonant relations determining the normal forms hold on the moduli of the exponential rates of contraction. Our results are actually stated in the framework of bundle maps. Such sequences of holomorphic contractions appear naturally as iterated inverse branches of endomorphisms of CP(k). In this context, our normalization result allows to precisely estimate the distortions of ellipsoids along typical orbits. As an application, we show how the Lyapunov exponen…
Let $K\backslash G$ be an irreducible Hermitian symmetric space of noncompact type and $Γ\,\subset\, G$ a closed torsionfree discrete subgroup. Let $X$ be a compact Kähler manifold and $ρ\, :\, π_1(X, x_0)\,\longrightarrow\, Γ$ a homomorphism such that the adjoint action of $ρ(π_1(X, x_0))$ on $\text{Lie}(G)$ is completely reducible. A theorem of Corlette associates to $ρ$ a harmonic map $X\, \longrightarrow\, K\backslash G/Γ$. We give a criterion for this harmonic map to be holomorphic. We also give a criterion for it to be anti--holomorphic.
We investigate the minimal singularities of metrics on a big line bundle $L$ over a projective manifold when the stable base locus $Y$ of $L$ is a submanifold of codimension $r\geq 1$. Under some assumptions on the normal bundle and a neighborhood of $Y$, we give a explicit description of the minimal singularity of metrics on $L$. We apply this result to study a higher (co-)dimensional analogue of Zariski's example, in which the line bundle $L$ is not semi-ample, however it is nef and big.
