We introduce the Plancherel measure on the set of partition collections, which parameterize irreducible representations of order n general linear group over a finite field. We prove that as n goes to infinity, the random partitions from the random collections converge in finite dimencional distribution to independent random variables. We give explicit formulas for the corresponding limit distributions.
We prove Lusztig's conjectures ${\bf P1}$-${\bf P15}$ for the affine Weyl group of type $\tilde{C}_2$ for all choices of positive weight function. Our approach to computing Lusztig's $\mathbf{a}$-function is based on the notion of a `balanced system of cell representations'. Once this system is established roughly half of the conjectures ${\bf P1}$-${\bf P15}$ follow. Next we establish an `asymptotic Plancherel Theorem' for type $\tilde{C}_2$, from which the remaining conjectures follow. Combined with existing results in the literature this completes the proof of Lusztig's conjectures for all …
In this paper, we are interested in the asymptotic size of rows and columns of a random Young diagram under a natural deformation of the Plancherel measure coming from Hecke algebras. The first lines of such diagrams are typically of order $n$, so it does not fit in the context studied by P. Biane and P. Śniady. Using the theory of polynomial functions on Young diagrams of Kerov and Olshanski, we are able to compute explicitly the first- and second-order asymptotics of the length of the first rows. Our method works also for other measures, for instance those coming from Schur-Weyl representati…
We consider the asymptotics of the Plancherel measures on partitions of $n$ as $n$ goes to infinity. We prove that the local structure of a Plancherel typical partition (which we identify with a Young diagram) in the middle of the limit shape converges to a determinantal point process with the discrete sine kernel. On the edges of the limit shape, we prove that the joint distribution of suitably scaled 1st, 2nd, and so on rows of a Plancherel typical diagram converges to the corresponding distribution for eigenvalues of random Hermitian matrices (given by the Airy kernel). This proves a conjec…
We study a two-dimensional family of probability measures on infinite Gelfand-Tsetlin schemes induced by a distinguished family of extreme characters of the infinite-dimensional unitary group. These measures are unitary group analogs of the well-known Plancherel measures for symmetric groups. We show that any measure from our family defines a determinantal point process, and we prove that in appropriate scaling limits, such processes converge to two different extensions of the discrete sine process as well as to the extended Airy and Pearcey processes.
We give conceptual proofs of certain basic properties of the arrangement of shifted root hyperplanes associated to a root system and a Weyl group invariant real valued parameter function on the root system. The method is based on the role of this shifted root hyperplane arrangement for the harmonic analysis of affine Hecke algebras. In addition this yields a conceptual proof of the description of the central support of the Plancherel measure of an affine Hecke algebra given in math.RT.0101007v4.
In this paper we compute the precise asymptotics of the variance of linear statistic of descents on a growing interval for Plancherel Young diagrams (following Vershik and Kerov, diagrams are considered rotated by $π/4$). We also give an example of a local configuration with linearly growing variance in a fixed regime and prove the central limit theorem for this configuration in the given regime.
Let F be a nonarchimedean local field, let D be a division algebra over F, let GL(n) = GL(n,F). Let νdenote Plancherel measure for GL(n). Each component Ωin the Bernstein variety Ω(GL(n)) has several numerical invariants attached to it. We provide explicit formulas for the Bernstein component ν_Ω of Plancherel measure in terms of these invariants. We also prove some new formal degree formulas, a transfer-of-measure formula for GL(n), and a transfer-of-measure formula from GL(n,F) to GL(m,D).
We initiate a Stein's method approach to the study of the Plancherel measure of the symmetric group. A new proof of Kerov's central limit theorem for character ratios of random representations of the symmetric group on transpositions is obtained; the proof gives an error term. The construction of an exchangeable pair needed for applying Stein's method arises from the theory of harmonic functions on Bratelli diagrams. We also find the spectrum of the Markov chain on partitions underlying the construction of the exchangeable pair. This yields an intriguing method for studying the asymptotic deco…
We study asymptotics of traces of (noncommutative) monomials formed by images of certain elements of the universal enveloping algebra of the infinite-dimensional unitary group in its Plancherel representations. We prove that they converge to (commutative) moments of a Gaussian process that can be viewed as a collection of simply yet nontrivially correlated two-dimensional Gaussian Free Fields. The limiting process has previously arisen via the global scaling limit of spectra for submatrices of Wigner Hermitian random matrices. This note is an announcement, proofs will appear elsewhere.
In this paper we study the asymptotic of multiplicities of irreducible representations in large tensor products of finite dimensional representations of simple Lie algebras and their statistics with respect to Plancherel and character probability measures. We derive the asymptotic distribution of irreducible components for the Plancherel measure, generalizing results of Biane and Tate and Zelditch. We also derive the asymptotic of the character measure for generic parameters and an intermediate scaling in the vicinity of the Plancherel measure. It is interesting that the asymptotic measure is …
If a partition $λ$ of size n is chosen randomly according to the Plancherel measure $P_n[λ] = (\dim λ)^2/n!$, then as n goes to infinity, the rescaled shape of $λ$ is with high probability very close to a non-random continuous curve $Ω$ known as the Logan-Shepp-Kerov-Vershik curve. Moreover, the rescaled deviation of $λ$ from this limit shape can be described by an explicit generalized gaussian process. In this paper, we investigate the analoguous problem when $λ$ is chosen with probability proportional to $\dim λ$ instead of $(\dim λ)^2$. We shall use very general arguments due to Ivanov and …

In recent years increasing attention has been paid on the area of supercharacter theories, especially to those of the upper unitriangular group. A particular supercharacter theory, in which supercharacters are indexed by set partitions, has several interesting properties, which make it object of further study. We define a natural generalization of the Plancherel measure, called superplancherel measure, and prove a limit shape result for a random set partition according to this distribution. We also give a description of the asymptotical behavior of two set partition statistics related to the s…
Given a number field $F$ and a reductive group $G$ over $F$, the unitary dual $\hat{G(\mathbb{A}_F)}$ of the adelic group $G(\mathbb{A}_F)$ and the Placherel measure $ν_{G(\mathbb{A}_F)}$ on it can be determined by the Plancherel measure of its local groups $G(F_v)$. Given a subset $X\subset \hat{G(\mathbb{A}_F)}$ of finite Plancherel measure, let $H_X$ be the direct integral of the irreducible representations in $X$. Besides a $G(\mathbb{A}_F)$-module and a $G(F)$-module, $H_X$ is also a module over the group von Neumann algebra $\mathcal{L}(G(F))$, hence there is a canonical dimension $\dim_…
Let $F$ be a $p$-adic field of characteristic 0, and let $M$ be an $F$-Levi subgroup of a connected reductive $F$-split group such that $Π_{i=1}^{r} SL_{n_i} \subseteq M \subseteq Π_{i=1}^{r} GL_{n_i}$ for positive integers $r$ and $n_i$. We prove that the Plancherel measure for any unitary supercuspidal representation of $M(F)$ is identically transferred under \textit{the local Jacquet-Langlands type correspondence} between $M$ and its $F$-inner forms, assuming a working hypothesis that Plancherel measures are invariant on a certain set. This work extends the result of Mui{ć} and Savin (2000)…
Vershik and Kerov conjectured in 1985 that dimensions of irreducible representations of finite symmetric groups, after appropriate normalization, converge to a constant with respect to the Plancherel family of measures on the space of Young diagrams. The statement of the Vershik-Kerov conjecture can be seen as an analogue of the Shannon-McMillan-Breiman Theorem for the non-stationary Markov process of the growth of a Young diagram. The limiting constant is then interpreted as the entropy of the Plancherel measure. The main result of the paper is the proof of the Vershik-Kerov conjecture. The a…
We consider a Markov evolution of lozenge tilings of a quarter-plane and study its asymptotics at large times. One of the boundary rays serves as a reflecting wall. We observe frozen and liquid regions, prove convergence of the local correlations to translation-invariant Gibbs measures in the liquid region, and obtain new discrete Jacobi and symmetric Pearcey determinantal point processes near the wall. The model can be viewed as the one-parameter family of Plancherel measures for the infinite-dimensional orthogonal group, and we use this interpretation to derive the determinantal formula for …
We pursue applications for symplectic Plancherel growth based on a repulsion phenomenon arising in its diffusion limit and on intermediate representation theory underlying its correlation structure. Under diffusive scaling, the dynamics converge to interlaced reflecting Brownian motions with a wall that achieve Dyson non-colliding dynamics. We exhibit non-degeneracy of constraint in this coupled system by deriving a path property that quantifies repulsion between particles coinciding in the limit. We then identify consistent series of Plancherel measures for $Sp(\infty)$ that reflect the odd s…
Consider the standard Poisson process in the first quadrant of the Euclidean plane, and for any point (u,v) of this quadrant take the Young diagram obtained by applying the Robinson-Schensted correspondence to the intersection of the Poisson point configuration with the rectangle with vertices (0,0), (u,0), (u,v), (0,v). It is known that the distribution of the random Young diagram thus obtained is the poissonized Plancherel measure with parameter uv. We show that for (u,v) moving along any southeast-directed curve in the quadrant, these Young diagrams form a Markov chain with continuous time.…
Consider random Young diagrams with a fixed number n of boxes, where the probability distribution on diagrams is determined by the Plancherel measure. That is, the weight of a diagram is proportional to the squared dimension of the corresponding irreducible representation of the symmetric group S_n. As n goes to infinity, the boundary of the (suitably scaled) random diagram concentrates near a curve Omega (Logan-Shepp 1977, Vershik-Kerov 1977). In 1993, Kerov announced a central limit theorem describing Gaussian fluctuations of random diagrams around the limit shape Omega. Here we propose a re…
We show that Kerov's central limit theorem related to the fluctuations of Young diagrams under the Plancherel measure extends to the case of Schur-Weyl measures, which are the probability measures on partitions associated to the representations of the symmetric groups $S_n$ on tensor products of vector spaces $V^{\otimes n}$ (cf. arXiv:math/0006111). More precisely, the fluctuations are exactly the same up to a translation of the diagrams along the x-axis. Our proof is inspired by the one given by Ivanov and Olshanski in arXiv:math/0304010 for the Plancherel measure, and it relies on the combi…
We consider three uniqueness theorems: one from the theory of meromorphic functions, another one from asymptotic combinatorics, and the third one about representations of the infinite symmetric group. The first theorem establishes the uniqueness of the function~$\exp z$ in a class of entire functions. The second one is about the uniqueness of a random monotone nondegenerate numbering of the two-dimensional lattice~$\Bbb Z^2_+$, or of a nondegenerate central measure on the space of infinite Young tableaux. And the third theorem establishes the uniqueness of a representation of the infinite symm…
In this paper we study the restrictions of the minimal representation in the analytic continuation of the scalar holomorphic discrete series from $Sp(n,\mathbb{R})$ to $GL(n,\mathbb{R})$, and from SU(n,n) to $GL(n,\mathbb{C})$ respectively. We work with the realisations of the representation spaces as $L^2$-spaces on the boundary orbits of rank one of the corresponding cones, and give explicit integral operators that play the role of the intertwining operators for the decomposition. We prove inversion formulas for dense subspaces and use them to prove the Plancherel theorem for the respective …
In this paper, we study the Plancherel measure of a class of non-connected nilpotent groups which is of special interest in Gabor theory. Let $G$ be a time-frequency group. More precisely, that is $G=\left\langle T_{k},M_{l}:k\in\mathbb{Z}^{d},l\in B\mathbb{Z}^{d}\right\rangle ,$ $T_{k}$, $M_{l}$ are translations and modulations operators acting in $L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{d}),$ and $B$ is a non-singular matrix. We compute the Plancherel measure of the left regular representation of $G\ $which is denoted by $L.$ The action of $G$ on $L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{d})$ induces a representation which we call a Ga…
In this thesis, we investigate the asymptotics of random partitions chosen according to probability measures coming from the representation theory of the symmetric groups $S_n$ and of the finite Chevalley groups $GL(n,F_q)$ and $Sp(2n,F_q)$. More precisely, we prove laws of large numbers and central limit theorems for the $q$-Plancherel measures of type A and B, the Schur-Weyl measures and the Gelfand measures. Using the RSK algorithm, it also gives results on longest increasing subsequences in random words. We develop a technique of moments (and cumulants) for random partitions, thereby using…
We show that the symplectic and orthogonal character analogues of Okounkov's Schur measure (on integer partitions) are determinantal, with explicit correlation kernels. We apply this to prove certain Borodin-Okounkov-Gessel-type results concerning Toeplitz+Hankel and Fredholm determinants; a Szegő-type limit theorem; an edge Baik-Deift-Johansson-type asymptotical result for certain symplectic and orthogonal analogues of the poissonized Plancherel measure; and a similar result for actual poissonized Plancherel measures supported on "almost symmetric" partitions.
Relative dimensions of isotypic components of N-th order tensor representations of the symmetric group on n letters give a Plancherel-type measure on the space of Young diagrams with n cells and at most N rows. It was conjectured by G. Olshanski that dimensions of isotypic components of tensor representations of finite symmetric groups, after appropriate normalization, converge to a constant with respect to this family of Plancherel-type measures in the limit when N/sqrt{n} converges to a constant. The main result of the paper is the proof of this conjecture.
The construction of generalized continuous wavelet transforms on locally compact abelian groups $A$ from quasi-regular representations of a semidirect product group $G = A \rtimes H$ acting on ${\rm L}^2(A)$ requires the existence of a square-integrable function whose Plancherel transform satisfies Calderón-type resolution of the identity. The question then arises under what conditions such square-integrable functions exist. The existing literature on this subject leaves a gap between sufficient and necessary criteria. In this paper, we give a characterization in terms of the natural action of…
We show that with respect to the q-Plancherel measure on partitions of size n, the irreducible characters of an Hecke algebra $H_q(S_n)$ are concentrated around the normalized trace of $H_q(S_n)$. More precisely, we prove that the deviations of the values of the q-characters $χ^λ_q$ are asymptotically gaussian, and we give an explicit formula for the covariances of the limit normal laws (the other results were already in arXiv:1001.2180). Our proof involves Sniady's theory of cumulants of observables of diagrams and a Möbius inversion formula for additive class functions on symmetric groups.
We study an infinite version of the "jeu de taquin" sliding game, which can be thought of as a natural measure-preserving transformation on the set of infinite Young tableaux equipped with the Plancherel probability measure. We use methods from representation theory to show that the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth ($\operatorname {RSK}$) algorithm gives an isomorphism between this measure-preserving dynamical system and the one-sided shift dynamics on a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables distributed uniformly on the unit interval. We also show that the jeu de taquin …
Random walk on the set of irreducible representations of a finite group is investigated. For the symmetric and general linear groups, a sharp convergence rate bound is obtained and a cutoff phenomenon is proved. As related results, an asymptotic description of Plancherel measure of the finite general linear groups is given, and a connection of these random walks with quantum computing is noted.

We study large random partitions boxed into a rectangle and coming from skew Howe duality, or alternatively from dual Schur measures. As the sides of the rectangle go to infinity, we obtain: 1) limit shape results for the profiles generalizing the Vershik--Kerov--Logan--Shepp curve; and 2) universal edge asymptotic results for the first parts in the form of the Tracy--Widom distribution, as well as less-universal critical regime results introduced by Gravner, Tracy and Widom. We do this for a large class of Schur parameters going beyond the Plancherel or principal specializations previously st…
Using techniques from integrable systems, we obtain a number of exact results for random partitions. In particular, we prove a simple formula for correlation functions of what we call the Schur measure on partitions (which is a far reaching generalization of the Plancherel measure, see math.CO/9905032) and also show that these correlations functions are tau-functions for the Toda lattice hierarchy. Also we give a new proof of the formula due to Bloch and the author, see alg-geom/9712009, for the so called n-point functions of the uniform measure on partitions and comment on the local structure…
