In this paper we compare a torsion free sheaf $\FF$ on $\PP^N$ and the free vector bundle $\oplus_{i=1}^n\OPN(b_i)$ having same rank and splitting type. We show that the first one has always "less" global sections, while it has a higher second Chern class. In both cases bounds for the difference are found in terms of the maximal free subsheaves of $\FF$. As a consequence we obtain a direct, easy and more general proof of the "Horrocks' splitting criterion", also holding for torsion free sheaves, and lower bounds for the Chern classes $c_i(\FF(t))$ of twists of $\FF$, only depending on some numerical invariants of $\FF$. Especially, we prove for rank $n$ torsion free sheaves on $\PP^N$, whose splitting type has no gap (i.e. $b_i\geq b_{i+1}\geq b_i-1$ for every $i=1, ...,n-1$), the following formula for the discriminant: \[ Δ(\FF):=2nc_2-(n-1)c_1^2\geq -{1/12}n^2(n^2-1)\] Finally in the case of rank $n$ reflexive sheaves we obtain polynomial upper bounds for the absolute value of the higher Chern classes $c_3(\FF(t)), ..., c_n(\FF(t))$, for the dimension of the cohomology modules $H^i\FF(t)$ and for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $\FF$; these polynomial bounds only depend only on $c_1(\FF)$, $c_2(\FF)$, the splitting type of $\FF$ and $t$.
We study torsion free sheaves on integral projective curves with at most ordinary cusps as singularities. Adjusting Seshadri's structure from the nodal case to this one, we describe these sheaves by means of a triple defined in the normalization of the curve.
We study the spectrum of rank $2$ torsion free sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^3$ with aim of producing examples of distinct irreducible components of the moduli space with the same spetrcum answering the question presented by Rao for the case of torsion free sheaves. In order to do so, we provide a full description of the spectrum of the sheaves in the moduli space of semistable rank $2$ torsion free sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^3$ with Chern classes $(c_1, c_2,c_3)$ equals to $(-1,2,0)$ and $(0,3,0)$.
We study flips of moduli schemes of stable torsion free sheaves as wall-crossing phenomena of moduli schemes of stable modules over certain finite dimensional algebra. They are described as stratified Grassmann bundles.
We find certain relations between flag Hilbert schemes of points on plane curves and moduli spaces of one-dimensional plane sheaves. We show that some of these moduli spaces are unirational.
In this article, we classify the irreducible components of moduli stacks of torsion free sheaves of rank 2 on K3 surfaces of Picard number 1. For ruled surfaces, the components of moduli stacks of torsion free sheaves were classified by C.Walter. Moreover, by virtue of our result, we classify the irreducible components of Brill-Noether loci of Hilbert schemes of points on K3 surfaces.
We prove that if $X$ is the total space of an elliptic principal bundle $π:X\ra B$ which is non-Kähler, then the restriction of any torsion-free sheaf on $X$ to the general fiber of $π$ is semi-stable.
Let A be a del Pezzo order on the projective plane over the field of complex numbers. We prove that every torsion-free A-module of rank one can be deformed into a locally free A-module of rank one.
In this paper we give a survey about the classification of vector bundles and torsion free sheaves on degenerations of elliptic curves. Coherent sheaves on singular curves of arithmetic genus one can be studied using the technique of matrix problems or via Fourier-Mukai transforms, both methods are discussed here. Moreover, we include new proofs of some classical results about vector bundles on elliptic curves.
We construct monads for framed torsion-free sheaves on blow-ups of the complex projective plane at finitely many distinct points. Using these monads we prove that the moduli space of such sheaves is a smooth algebraic variety. Moreover we construct monads for families of such sheaves parameterized by a noetherian scheme S of finite type. A universal monad on the moduli space is introduced and used to prove that the moduli space is fine.
In this article, we construct Chern classes in rational Deligne cohomology for coherent sheaves on a smooth complex compact manifold. We prove that these classes verify the functoriality property under pullbacks, the Whitney formula and the Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch theorem for projective morphisms between smooth complex compact manifolds.
We investigate torsion exceptional sheaves on a weak del Pezzo surface of degree greater than two whose anticanonical model has at most $A_n$-singularities. We show that every torsion exceptional sheaf can be obtained from a line bundle on a $(-1)$-curve by acting spherical twist functors successively.
We construct a twist-closed enhancement of the category ${\mathcal D}^b_{\rm coh}(X)$, the bounded derived category of complexes of ${\mathcal O}_X$-modules with coherent cohomology, by means of the DG-category of $\bar\partial$-superconnections. Then we apply the techniques of $\bar\partial$-superconnections to define Chern classes and Bott-Chern classes of objects in the category, in particular, of coherent sheaves.
We give a complete classification of semistable rank two sheaves on three-dimensional projective space with maximal third Chern character. This implies an explicit description of their moduli spaces. As an open subset they contain rank two reflexive sheaves with maximal number of singularities. These spaces are irreducible, and apart from a single special case, they are also smooth. This extends a result by Okonek and Spindler to all missing cases and gives a new proof of their result. The key technical ingredient is variation of stability in the derived category.
In this paper, we study the divisor theory of the Simpson moduli space of semistable sheaves of dimension 1 on the projective plane. We prove that these spaces are all Mori dream spaces, and calculate their nef cones. We also study the effective cones of these spaces for most choices of numerical invariants. As a consequence, we work out precisely when two such spaces are isomorphic.
Let $R$ be a complete discrete valuation ring with fraction field of characteristic $0$ and algebraically closed residue field of characteristic $p>0$. Let $X_R \to \mathrm{Spec}(R)$ be a smooth projective morphism of relative dimension $1$. We prove that, given a line bundle $\mathcal{L}_R$ the moduli space of Gieseker stable torsion-free sheaves of rank $r\geq 2$ over $X_R$, with determinant $\mathcal{L}_R$, is smooth over $R$.
The aim of this paper is to determine a bound of the dimension of an irreducible component of the Hilbert scheme of the moduli space of torsion-free sheaves on surfaces. Let $X$ be a non-singular irreducible complex surface and let $E$ be a vector bundle of rank $n$ on $X$. We use the $m$-elementary transformation of $E$ at a point $x \in X$ to show that there exists an embedding from the Grassmannian variety $\mathbb{G}(E_x,m)$ into the moduli space of torsion-free sheaves $\mathfrak{M}_{X,H}(n;c_1,c_2+m)$ which induces an injective morphism from $X \times M_{X,H}(n;c_1,c_2)$ to $Hilb_{\, \ma…
We show that for many moduli spaces M of torsion sheaves on K3 surfaces S, the functor D(S) -> D(M) induced by the universal sheaf is a P-functor, hence can be used to construct an autoequivalence of D(M), and that this autoequivalence can be factored into geometrically meaningful equivalences associated to abelian fibrations and Mukai flops. Along the way we produce a derived equivalence between two compact hyperkaehler 2g-folds that are not birational, for every g >= 2. We also speculate about an approach to showing that birational moduli spaces of sheaves on K3 surfaces are derived-equivale…
This paper is devoted to the study of some coherent sheaves on non reduced curves that can be locally embedded in smooth surfaces. If Y is such a curve then there is a filtration by subschemes C_i such that C_1 is the reduced curve associated to Y, and that for every P in C, if z is an equation of C_1 in the local ring of Y at P, then (z^i) is the ideal of C_i. A coherent sheaf on Y is called torsion free if it does not have any non zero subsheaf with finite support. We prove that torsion free sheaves are reflexive. We study then the quasi locally free sheaves, i.e. sheaves which are locally i…
In this paper we study short exact sequences $ 0 \to \mathcal P \to \mathcal N \to \ii_D(k) \to 0 $ with $ \mathcal P, \mathcal N $ torsion--free sheaves and $ D $ closed projective scheme. This is a classical way to construct and study projective schemes (e.g. see \cite{hart-1974}, \cite{hart-2}, \cite{mdp}, \cite{serre-1960}). In particular, we give homological conditions on $ \mathcal P $ and $ \mathcal N $ that force $ D $ to be ACM, without constrains on its codimension. As last result, we prove that if $ \mathcal N $ is a higher syzygy sheaf of an ACM scheme $ X,$ the scheme $ D $ we get…
It is well known that the Chern classes $c_i$ of a rank $n$ vector bundle on $\PP^N$, generated by global sections, are non-negative if $i\leq n$ and vanish otherwise. This paper deals with the following question: does the above result hold for the wider class of reflexive sheaves? We show that the Chern numbers $c_i$ with $i\geq 4$ can be arbitrarily negative for reflexive sheaves of any rank; on the contrary for $i\leq 3$ we show positivity of the $c_i$ with weaker hypothesis. We obtain lower bounds for $c_1$, $c_2$ and $c_3$ for every reflexive sheaf $\FF$ which is generated by $H^0\FF$ on …
On a Weierstraß elliptic surface $X$, we define a `limit' of Bridgeland stability conditions, denoted $Z^l$-stability, by varying the polarisation in the definition of Bridgeland stability along a curve in the ample cone of $X$. We show that a slope stable torsion-free sheaf of positive (twisted) degree or a slope stable locally free sheaf is taken by a Fourier-Mukai transform on $D^b(X)$ to a $Z^l$-stable object, while a $Z^l$-semistable object of nonzero fiber degree can be modified so that its inverse Fourier-Mukai transform is a slope semistable torsion-free sheaf.
We develop a new cohomology theory in characteristic p>0, the so called F-gauge cohomology, a cohomology with values in the category of so-called F-gauges, which refines the cristalline cohomology. In this first paper we mainly discuss the theory for smooth projective varieties over perfect fields of charatceristic p. We also compare our theory with other existing structures like the F-zips of Moonen and Wedhorn and the displays of Langer and Zink.
We give an algorithmic description of the action of the Chern classes of tautological bundles on the cohomology of Hilbert schemes of points on surfaces within the framework of Nakajima's oscillator algebra. This leads to an identification of the cohomology ring of Hilbert schemes of the affine plane with a ring of differential operators on a Fock space. We end with the computation of the top Segre classes of tautological bundles associated to line bundles on Hilb^n up to n=7, and give a conjecture for the generating series.
Let U^{'s}_{L}(n,d) be the moduli space of stable vector bundles of rank $n$ and fixed determinant L of degree d on a nodal curve Y. The moduli space of semistable vector bundles of rank n and degree $d$ will be denoted by U'_Y(n,d). We calculate the Brauer groups of U^{'s}_{L}(n,d)$. We study the question of rationality of $U^{'s}_{L}(n,d)$ and $U'_Y(n,d)$.
There exists the Krichever map from the set of quintets (C,p,F,t,e) (where C is an integral and complete algebraic curve, p a smooth rational point, F a rank 2 torsion free coherent sheaf on C, t a local formal parameter in p and e a formal trivialization of F around p) to the infinite Grassmanian of $k((z)) \oplus k((z))$. We describe the images of quintets with (semi)stable sheaves F in terms of Plucker coordinates and get some analog of GIT Hilbert-Mumford numerical criterion with respect to actions of some 1-parametric subgroups of the group $SL(2,k[[z]])$ on the determinant bundle of the …
We study Le Potier's strange duality conjecture on $\mathbb{P}^2$. We show the conjecture is true for the pair ($W(2,0,2),~M(d,0)$) with $d>0$, where $W(2,0,2)$ is the moduli space of semistable sheaves of rank 2, zero first Chern class and second Chern class 2, and $M(d,0)$ is the moduli space of 1-dimensional semistable sheaves of first Chern class $dH$ and Euler characteristic 0.
This work deals with an algebro-geometric theory of solutions of the classical Yang-Baxter equation based on torsion free coherent sheaves of Lie algebras on Weierstrass cubic curves.
Fix a Chern character of a stable sheaf on the plane. Assume either the rank is at most 6 or the rank and first Chern class are coprime and the discriminant is sufficiently large. We use recent results of Bayer and Macri on Bridgeland stability to compute the ample cone of the moduli space of Gieseker semistable sheaves with the given Chern character. We recover earlier results, such as those by Stromme and Yoshioka, as special cases.
We focus on a class of Weierstrass elliptic threefolds that allows the base of the fibration to be a Fano surface or a numerically $K$-trivial surface. We define the notion of limit tilt stability, and show that the Fourier-Mukai transform of a slope stable torsion-free sheaf satisfying a vanishing condition in codimension 2 (e.g. a reflexive sheaf) is a limit tilt stable object. We also show that the inverse Fourier-Mukai transform of a limit tilt semistable object of nonzero fiber degree is a slope semistable torsion-free sheaf, up to modification in codimension 2.
Given a smooth toric variety $X$, the action of the torus $T$ lifts to the moduli space $\mathcal{M}$ of stable sheaves on $X$. Using the pioneering work of Klyacho, a fairly explicit combinatorial description of the fixed point locus $\mathcal{M}^T$ can be given (as shown by earlier work of the author). In this paper, we apply this description to the case of torsion free sheaves on a smooth toric surface $S$. A general expression for the generating function of the Euler characteristics of such moduli spaces is obtained. The generating function is expressed in terms of Euler characteristics of…
The notion of modulus is a striking feature of Rosenlicht-Serre's theory of generalized Jacobian varieties of curves. It was carried over to algebraic cycles on general varieties by Bloch-Esnault, Park, Rülling, Krishna-Levine. Recently, Kerz-Saito introduced a notion of Chow group of $0$-cycles with modulus in connection with geometric class field theory with wild ramification for varieties over finite fields. We study the non-homotopy invariant part of the Chow group of $0$-cycles with modulus and show their torsion and divisibility properties. Modulus is being brought to sheaf theory by Kah…
We give sufficient conditions for the (semi-)stability of torsion free sheaves on a primitive multiple curve. These conditions are used to prove that some moduli spaces of stable sheaves are not empty. We study mainly the quasi locally free sheaves of generic type (this includes the locally free sheaves). These sheaves are generic, i.e. for every moduli space of torsion free sheaves, the sheaves of this type correspond to an open subset of the moduli space.
In this paper, Gotzmann's Regularity Theorem is established for globally generated coherent sheaves on projective space. This is used to extend Gotzmann's explicit construction to the Quot scheme. The Gotzmann representation is applied to bound the second Chern class of a rank 2 globally generated coherent sheaf in terms of the first Chern class.
On the product elliptic threefold $X = C \times S$ where $C$ is an elliptic curve and $S$ is a K3 surface of Picard rank 1, we define a notion of limit tilt stability, which satisfies the Harder-Narasimhan property. We show that under the Fourier-Mukai transform $Φ$ on $D^b(X)$ induced by the classical Fourier-Mukai transform on $D^b(C)$, a slope stable torsion-free sheaf satisfying a vanishing condition in codimension 2 (e.g. a reflexive sheaf) is taken to a limit tilt stable object. We also show that a limit tilt semistable object on $X$ is taken by $Φ$ to a slope semistable sheaf, up to mod…
We study a class of torsion-free sheaves on complex projective spaces which generalize the much studied mathematical instanton bundles. Instanton sheaves can be obtained as cohomologies of linear monads and are shown to be semistable if its rank is not too large, while semistable torsion-free sheaves satisfying certain cohomological conditions are instanton. We also study a few examples of moduli spaces of instanton sheaves.
Let X be a projective complex K3 surface. Beauville and Voisin singled out a 0-cycle c_X on X of degree 1: it is represented by any point lying on a rational curve in X. Huybrechts proved that the second Chern class of a rigid simple vector-bundle on X is a multiple of the Beauville-Voisin class c_X if certain hypotheses hold and he conjectured that the additional hypotheses are unnecessary. We believe that the following generalization of Huybrechts' conjecture holds. Let M and N be moduli spaces of stable pure sheaves on X (with fixed cohomological Chern characters) and suppose that they have…
Let S be a ruled surface without sections of negative self-intersection. We classify the irreducible components of the moduli stack of torsion-free sheaves of rank 2 sheaves on S. We also classify the irreducible components of the Brill-Noether loci in Hilb^N(P1xP1) given by W_N^0(D)={[X] | h^1(I_X(D)) >= 1 } for D an effective divisor class. Our methods are also applicable to P2 giving new proofs of theorems of Stromme (slightly extended) and Coppo.
Let $X$ be an arbitrary scheme. The category $\mathfrak{Qcoh}(X)$ of quasi--coherent sheaves on $X$ is known that admits arbitrary direct products. However their structure seems to be rather mysterious. In the present paper we will describe the structure of the product object of a family of locally torsion-free objects in $\mathfrak{Qcoh}(X)$, for $X$ an integral scheme. Several applications are provided. For instance it is shown that the class of flat quasi--coherent sheaves on a Dedekind scheme $X$ is closed under arbitrary direct products, and that the class of all locally torsion-free quas…
We construct geometric realizations of the r-colored bosonic and fermionic Fock space on the equivariant cohomology of the moduli space of framed rank r torsion-free sheaves on CP^2. Using these constructions, we realize geometrically all level one irreducible representations of the affine Lie algebra \hat{gl(r)}. The cyclic group Z_k acts naturally on the moduli space of sheaves, and the fixed-point components of this action are cyclic Nakajima quiver varieties . We realize level k irreducible representations of \hat{gl(r)} on the equivariant cohomology of these quiver varieties.
We define complexes of vector bundles on products of moduli spaces of framed rank r torsion-free sheaves on the complex projective plane. The top non-vanishing Chern classes of the cohomology of these complexes yield actions of the r-colored Heisenberg and Clifford algebras on the equivariant cohomology of the moduli spaces. In this way we obtain a geometric realization of the boson-fermion correspondence and related vertex operators.
We describe new irreducible components of the moduli space of rank $2$ semistable torsion free sheaves on the three-dimensional projective space whose generic point corresponds to non-locally free sheaves whose singular locus is either 0-dimensional or consists of a line plus disjoint points. In particular, we prove that the moduli spaces of semistable sheaves with Chern classes $(c_1,c_2,c_3)=(-1,2n,0)$ and $(c_1,c_2,c_3)=(0,n,0)$ always contain at least one rational irreducible component. As an application, we prove that the number of such components grows as the second Chern class grows, an…
We study birational maps among 1) the moduli space of semistable torsion sheaves of Hilbert polynomial $4m+2$ on a smooth quadric surface, 2) the moduli space of semistable torsion sheaves of Hilbert polynomial $m^{2}+3m+2$ on $\mathbb{P}^{3}$, 3) Kontsevich's moduli space of genus zero stable maps of degree 2 to Grassmannian $Gr(2, 4)$. A regular birational morphism from 1) to 2) is described in terms of Fourier-Mukai transform. The map from 3) to 2) is Kirwan's partial desingularization. Also we investigate several geometric properties of 1) by using the variation of moduli spaces of stable …
We review the notion of Gieseker stability for torsion-free Higgs sheaves. This notion is a natural generalization of the classical notion of Gieseker stability for torsion-free coherent sheaves. We prove some basic properties that are similar to the classical ones for torsion-free coherent sheaves over projective algebraic manifolds. In particular, we show that Gieseker stability for torsion-free Higgs sheaves can be defined using only Higgs subsheaves with torsion-free quotients; and we show that a classical relation between Gieseker stability and Mumford-Takemoto stability extends naturally…
