This is a concise introduction to Fomin-Zelevinsky's cluster algebras and their links with the representation theory of quivers in the acyclic case. We review the definition of cluster algebras (geometric, without coefficients), construct the cluster category and present the bijection between cluster variables and rigid indecomposable objects of the cluster category.
Using the unfolding method given in \cite{HL}, we prove the conjectures on sign-coherence and a recurrence formula respectively of ${\bf g}$-vectors for acyclic sign-skew-symmetric cluster algebras. As a following consequence, the conjecture is affirmed in the same case which states that the ${\bf g}$-vectors of any cluster form a basis of $\mathbb Z^n$. Also, the additive categorification of an acyclic sign-skew-symmetric cluster algebra $\mathcal A(Σ)$ is given, which is realized as $(\mathcal C^{\widetilde Q},Γ)$ for a Frobenius $2$-Calabi-Yau category $\mathcal C^{\widetilde Q}$ constructe…
Several conjectures on acyclic skew-symmetrizable cluster algebras are proven as direct consequences of their categorification via valued quivers. These include conjectures of Fomin-Zelevinsky, Reading-Speyer, and Reading-Stella related to $\mathbf{d}$-vectors, $\mathbf{g}$-vectors, and $F$-polynomials.
There is a long tradition of categorifying combinatorial Hopf algebras by the modules of a tower of algebras (or even better via the representation theory of a tower of groups). From the point of view of combinatorics, such a categorification supplies canonical bases, inner products, and a natural avenue to prove positivity results. Recent ideas in supercharacter theory have made fashioning the representation theory of a tower of groups into a Hopf structure more tractable. This paper applies such a program to the Malvenuto--Reutenauer Hopf algebra. In particular, we design functors on the rep…
We propose a categorification of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra in terms of the equivariant K-theory of the framed matrix factorizations. The construction generalizes the earlier construction of the authors for a categorification of the finite Hecke algebra of type A. We also explain why our construction provides a faithful realization of the Hecke algebras and discuss a geometric realization of the Jucys-Murphy subalgebra.
We explore the connection between the notion of Hopf category and the categorification of the infinite dimensional Heisenberg algebra via graphical calculus proposed by M.Khovanov. We show that the existence of a Hopf structure on a semisimple symmetric monoidal abelian category implies existence of a categorical action in the sense of Khovanov and thus leads to a strong categorification of this algebra.
Let $U_q(\g)$ be a quantum generalized Kac-Moody algebra and let $V(Λ)$ be the integrable highest weight $U_q(\g)$-module with highest weight $Λ$. We prove that the cyclotomic Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebra $R^Λ$ provides a categorification of $V(Λ)$.
We study a compatibility relationship between Qin's dominance order on a cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}$ and partial orderings arising from classifications of simple objects in a monoidal categorification $\mathcal{C}$ of $\mathcal{A}$. Our motivating example is Hernandez-Leclerc's monoidal categorification using representations of quantum affine algebras. In the framework of Kang-Kashiwara-Kim-Oh's monoidal categorification via representations of quiver Hecke algebras, we focus on the case of the category $R-gmod$ for a symmetric finite type $A$ quiver Hecke algebra using Kleshchev-Ram's classi…
We construct an equivalence of graded Abelian categories from a category of representations of the quiver-Hecke algebra of type $A_1^{(1)}$ to the category of equivariant perverse coherent sheaves on the nilpotent cone of type $A$. We prove that this equivalence is weakly monoidal. This gives a representation-theoretic categorification of the preprojective K-theoretic Hall algebra considered by Schiffmann-Vasserot. Using this categorification, we compare the monoidal categorification of the quantum open unipotent cells of type $A_1^{(1)}$ given by Kang-Kashiwara-Kim-Oh-Park in terms of quiver-…
We use geometric parabolic induction functors and the adjoint functors for the supergroups Osp(2m+1,2n) (where m and n vary) to categorify the action of the infinite-dimensional Clifford algebra on the Fock space of semi-infinite forms.
We give a graphical calculus for a categorification of a Clifford algebra and its Fock space representation via differential graded categories. The categorical action is motivated by the gluing action between the contact categories of infinite strips.
In this survey article we review Kac-Moody and Heisenberg algebra actions on the categories $\mathcal{O}$ of the rational Cherednik algebras associated to groups $G(\ell,1,n)$. Using these actions we solve basic representation theoretic problems for these categories such as the classification of finite dimensional irreducible representations and computation of characters of the irreducibles.
Let us fix a positive integer $ν>1$. For each positive integer $n>1$, we consider a normal supercharacter theory $\mathcal{S}_n$ of $G_n$, where $G_n$ is the direct-product of $n-1$ copies of the cyclic group of order $ν$. Then we endow $\bigoplus_{n \ge 0} \textsf{scf}(\mathcal{S}_n)$, the direct-product of supercharacter function spaces, with the Hopf algebra structure that is isomorphic to the Hopf algebra $\textsf{QSym}$ of quasisymmetric functions. Furthermore, we compute the structure constants of the Hopf algebra thus obtained for the basis consisting of superclass identifier functions.…
In this paper, we prove Khovanov-Lauda's cyclotomic categorification conjecture for all symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras. Let $U_q(g)$ be the quantum group associated with a symmetrizable Cartan datum and let $V(Λ)$ be the irreducible highest weight $U_q(g)$-module with a dominant integral highest weight $Λ$. We prove that the cyclotomic Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebra $R^Λ$ gives a categorification of $V(Λ)$.
We realize the Temperley-Lieb algebra by analogues of Soergel bimodules. The key point is that the monoidal structure is not given by a usual tensor product but by a slightly more complicated operation.
We introduce and investigate new invariants on the pair of modules $M$ and $N$ over quantum affine algebras $U_q'(\mathfrak{g})$ by analyzing their associated R-matrices. From new invariants, we provide a criterion for a monoidal category of finite-dimensional integrable $U_q'(\mathfrak{g})$-modules to become a monoidal categorification of a cluster algebra.
We provide a categorical interpretation of a well-known identity from linear algebra as an isomorphism of certain functors between triangulated categories arising from finite dimensional algebras. As a consequence, we deduce that the Serre functor of a finite dimensional triangular algebra A has always a lift, up to shift, to a product of suitably defined reflection functors in the category of perfect complexes over the trivial extension algebra of A.
We give a definition of monoidal categorifications of quantum cluster algebras and provide a criterion for a monoidal category of finite-dimensional graded $R$-modules to become a monoidal categorification of a quantum cluster algebra, where $R$ is a symmetric Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebra. Roughly speaking, this criterion asserts that a quantum monoidal seed can be mutated successively in all the directions once the first-step mutations are possible. In the course of the study, we also give a proof of a conjecture of Leclerc on the product of upper global basis elements.
This is a brief introduction to the quiver Hecke algebras of Khovanov, Lauda and Rouquier, emphasizing their application to the categorification of quantum groups. The text is based on lectures given by the author at the ICRA workshop in Bielefeld in August, 2012.
We suggest a simple definition for categorification of modules over rings and illustrate it by categorifying integral Specht modules over the symmetric group and its Hecke algebra via the action of translation functors on some subcategories of category $\mathcal{O}$ for the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_n(\mathbb{C})$.
We present here two detailed examples of additive categorifications of the cluster algebra structure of a coordinate ring of a maximal unipotent subgroup of a simple Lie group. The first one is of simply-laced type ($A_3$) and relies on an article by Geiß, Leclerc and Schröer. The second is of non simply-laced type ($C_2$) and relies on an article by the author of this note. This is aimed to be accessible, specially for people who are not familiar with this subject.
Varagnolo and Vasserot conjectured an equivalence between the category O for CRDAHA's and a subcategory of an affine parabolic category O of type A. We prove this conjecture. As applications, we prove a conjecture of Rouquier on the dimension of simple modules of CRDAHA's and a conjecture of Chuang-Miyachi on the Koszul duality for the category O of CRDAHA's.
We develop a diagrammatic categorification of the polynomial ring Z[x], based on a geometrically defined graded algebra. This construction generalizes to categorification of some special functions, such as Chebyshev polynomials. Diagrammatic algebras featured in these categorifications lead to the first topological interpretations of the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand reciprocity property.
A theory of canonical basis for a two-parameter quantum algebra is developed in parallel with the one in one-parameter case. A geometric construction of the negative part of a two-parameter quantum algebra is given by using mixed perverse sheaves and Deligne's weight theory based on Lusztig's work. A categorification of the negative part of a two-parameter quantum algebra is provided. A two-parameter quantum algebra is shown to be a two-cocycle deformation, depending only on the second parameter, of its one-parameter analogue.
We present a categorification of four mutation finite cluster algebras by the cluster category of the category of coherent sheaves over a weighted projective line of tubular weight type. Each of these cluster algebras which we call tubular is associated to an elliptic root system. We show that via a cluster character the cluster variables are in bijection with the positive real Schur roots associated to the weighted projective line. In one of the four cases this is achieved by the approach to cluster algebras of Fomin-Shapiro-Thurston using a 2-sphere with 4 marked points whereas in the remain…
These are lectures notes for a mini-course given at the conference Interactions of Quantum Affine Algebras with Cluster Algebras, Current Algebras, and Categorification in June 2018. The goal is to introduce the reader to string diagram techniques for monoidal categories, with an emphasis on their role in categorification.
We consider the closure space on the set of strings of a gentle algebra of finite representation type. Palu, Pilaud, and Plamondon proved that the collection of all biclosed sets of strings forms a lattice, and moreover, that this lattice is congruence-uniform. Many interesting examples of finite congruence-uniform lattices may be represented as the lattice of torsion classes of an associative algebra. We introduce a generalization, the lattice of torsion shadows, and we prove that the lattice of biclosed sets of strings is isomorphic to a lattice of torsion shadows. Finite congruence-uniform …
We prove that the quantum unipotent coordinate algebra $A_q(\mathfrak{n}(w))\ $ associated with a symmetric Kac-Moody algebra and its Weyl group element $w$ has a monoidal categorification as a quantum cluster algebra. As an application of our earlier work, we achieve it by showing the existence of a quantum monoidal seed of $A_q(\mathfrak{n}(w))$ which admits the first-step mutations in all the directions. As a consequence, we solve the conjecture that any cluster monomial is a member of the upper global basis up to a power of $q^{1/2}$.
Broline, Crowe and Isaacs have computed the determinant of a matrix associated to a Conway-Coxeter frieze pattern. We generalise their result to the corresponding frieze pattern of cluster variables arising from the Fomin-Zelevinsky cluster algebra of type A. We give a representation-theoretic interpretation of this result in terms of certain configurations of indecomposable objects in the root category of type A.
We introduce a new family of real simple modules over the quantum affine algebras, called the affine determinantial modules, which contains the Kirillov-Reshetikhin (KR)-modules as a special subfamily, and then prove T-systems among them which generalize the T-systems among KR-modules and unipotent quantum minors in the quantum unipotent coordinate algebras simultaneously. We develop new combinatorial tools: admissible chains of i-boxes which produce commuting families of affine determinantial modules, and box moves which describe the T-system in a combinatorial way. Using these results, we pr…
This paper presents categorifications of (right) cell modules and induced cell modules for Hecke algebras of finite Weyl groups. In type $A$ we show that these categorifications depend only on the isomorphism class of the cell module, not on the cell itself. Our main application is multiplicity formulas for parabolically induced modules over a reductive Lie algebra of type $A$, which finally determines the so-called rough structure of generalized Verma modules. On the way we present several categorification results and give the positive answer to Kostant's problem from \cite{Jo} in many cases.…
We prove that the quantum cluster algebra structure of a unipotent quantum coordinate ring $A_q(\mathfrak{n}(w))$, associated with a symmetric Kac-Moody algebra and its Weyl group element $w$, admits a monoidal categorification via the representations of symmetric Khovanov-Lauda- Rouquier algebras. In order to achieve this goal, we give a formulation of monoidal categorifications of quantum cluster algebras and provide a criterion for a monoidal category of finite-dimensional graded $R$-modules to become a monoidal categorification, where $R$ is a symmetric Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebra. Rou…
We describe a ring whose category of Cohen-Macaulay modules provides an additive categorification of the cluster algebra structure on the homogeneous coordinate ring of the Grassmannian of k-planes in n-space. More precisely, there is a cluster character defined on the category which maps the rigid indecomposable objects to the cluster variables and the maximal rigid objects to clusters. This is proved by showing that the quotient of this category by a single projective-injective object is Geiss-Leclerc-Schroer's category Sub $Q_k$, which categorifies the coordinate ring of the big cell in thi…
We categorify various Fock space representations on the algebra of symmetric functions via the category of polynomial functors. In a prequel, we used polynomial functors to categorify the Fock space representations of type A affine Lie algebras. In the current work we continue the study of polynomial functors from the point of view of higher representation theory. Firstly, we categorify the Fock space representation of the Heisenberg algebra on the category of polynomial functors. Secondly, we construct commuting actions of the affine Lie algebra and the level p action of the Heisenberg algebr…
These are the notes for a two-week mini-course given at a winter school in January 2014 as part of the thematic semester New Directions in Lie Theory at the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques in Montréal. The goal of the course was to give an overview of the idea of categorification, with an emphasis on some examples where explicit computation is possible with minimal background. The notes begin with a very brief review of the representation theory of associative algebras, before introducing the concept of weak categorification with some simple examples. It then proceeds to a discussion of mor…
In this note, we introduce monoidal subcategories of the tensor category of finite-dimensional representations of a simply-laced quantum affine algebra, parametrized by arbitrary Dynkin quivers. For linearly oriented quivers of types A and D, we show that these categories provide monoidal categorifications of cluster algebras of the same type. The proof is purely representation-theoretical, in the spirit of [arXiv:0903.1452].
We give a description of certain categories of equivariant coherent sheaves on Grothendieck's resolution in terms of the categorical affine Hecke algebra of Soergel. As an application, we deduce a relationship of these coherent sheaf categories to the categories of perverse sheaves considered in the work of Bezrukavnikov-Yun, generalizing results of Arkhipov-Bezrukavnikov. In addition, we deduce that the weak braid group action on sheaves of Riche and Bezrukavnikov-Riche can be upgraded to a strict braid group action.
We associate a monoidal category $\mathcal{H}^λ$ to each dominant integral weight $λ$ of $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_p$ or $\mathfrak{sl}_\infty$. These categories, defined in terms of planar diagrams, act naturally on categories of modules for the degenerate cyclotomic Hecke algebras associated to $λ$. We show that, in the $\mathfrak{sl}_\infty$ case, the level $d$ Heisenberg algebra embeds into the Grothendieck ring of $\mathcal{H}^λ$, where $d$ is the level of $λ$. The categories $\mathcal{H}^λ$ can be viewed as a graphical calculus describing induction and restriction functors between categor…
We define a category of planar diagrams whose Grothendieck group contains an integral version of the infinite rank Heisenberg algebra, thus yielding a categorification of this algebra. Our category, which is a q-deformation of one defined by Khovanov, acts naturally on the categories of modules for Hecke algebras of type A and finite general linear groups. In this way, we obtain a categorification of the bosonic Fock space. We also develop the theory of parabolic induction and restriction functors for finite groups and prove general results on biadjointness and cyclicity in this setting.
We consider the quantum cluster algebras which are injective-reachable and introduce a triangular basis in every seed. We prove that, under some initial conditions, there exists a unique common triangular basis with respect to all seeds. This basis is parametrized by tropical points as expected in the Fock-Goncharov conjecture. As an application, we prove the existence of the common triangular bases for the quantum cluster algebras arising from representations of quantum affine algebras and partially for those arising from quantum unipotent subgroups. This result implies monoidal categorificat…
This is the first part of a series of two papers aiming to construct a categorification of the braiding on tensor products of Verma modules, and in particular of the Lawrence--Krammer--Bigelow representations. \\ In this part, we categorify all tensor products of Verma modules and integrable modules for quantum $\mathfrak{sl_2}$. The categorification is given by derived categories of dg versions of KLRW algebras which generalize both the tensor product algebras of Webster, and the dg-algebras used by Lacabanne, the second author and Vaz. We compute a basis for these dgKLRW algebras by using re…
In \cite{JKS} we gave an (additive) categorification of Grassmannian cluster algebras, using the category $\CM(A)$ of Cohen-Macaulay modules for a certain Gorenstein order $A$. In this paper, using a cluster tilting object in the same category $\CM(A)$, we construct a compatible pair $(B, L)$, which is the data needed to define a quantum cluster algebra. We show that when $(B, L)$ is defined from a cluster tilting object with rank 1 summands, this quantum cluster algebra is (generically) isomorphic to the corresponding quantum Grassmannian.
This article contains a review of categorifications of semisimple representations of various rings via abelian categories and exact endofunctors on them. A simple definition of an abelian categorification is presented and illustrated with several examples, including categorifications of various representations of the symmetric group and its Hecke algebra via highest weight categories of modules over the Lie algebra sl(n). The review is intended to give non-experts in representation theory who are familiar with the topological aspects of categorification (lifting quantum link invariants to homo…
Given a vector space with an action of a semi-simple Lie algebra, we can try to "categorify" this representation, which means finding a category where the generators of the Lie algebra act by functors. Such categorical representations arise naturally in geometric representation theory and in modular representation theory of symmetric groups. A framework for studying categorical representations was introduced by Rouquier and Khovanov-Lauda. Their definitions are algebraic/diagrammatic, but are connected to the topology of quiver varieties by the work of Rouquier and Varagnolo-Vasserot. In this …
The Grothendieck groups of the categories of finitely generated modules and finitely generated projective modules over a tower of algebras can be endowed with (co)algebra structures that, in many cases of interest, give rise to a dual pair of Hopf algebras. Moreover, given a dual pair of Hopf algebras, one can construct an algebra called the Heisenberg double, which is a generalization of the classical Heisenberg algebra. The aim of this paper is to study Heisenberg doubles arising from towers of algebras in this manner. First, we develop the basic representation theory of such Heisenberg doub…

We construct geometric categorical Lie algebra actions on the derived category of coherent sheaves on Nakajima quiver varieties. These actions categorify Nakajima's construction of Kac-Moody algebra representations on the K-theory of quiver varieties. We define an induced affine braid group action on these derived categories.
The monoidal category of Soergel bimodules categorifies the Hecke algebra of a finite Weyl group. In the case of the symmetric group, morphisms in this category can be drawn as graphs in the plane. We define a quotient category, also given in terms of planar graphs, which categorifies the Temperley-Lieb algebra. Certain ideals appearing in this quotient are related both to the 1-skeleton of the Coxeter complex and to the topology of 2D cobordisms. We demonstrate how further subquotients of this category will categorify the cell modules of the Temperley-Lieb algebra.
We examine the crystal graph of the $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_e$-module arising from an $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_e$-categorification to study the defining endo-functors of the categorification. This yields lower bounds on the number of irreducible constituents of certain objects. We use Ariki's categorification result on Ariki-Koike algebras to obtain a new lower bound on the number of constituents of their parabolically induced modules. In particular this will imply reducibility of every induced module.
