We develop and defend the thesis that the Hilbert space formalism of quantum mechanics is a new theory of probability. The theory, like its classical counterpart, consists of an algebra of events, and the probability measures defined on it. The construction proceeds in the following steps: (a) Axioms for the algebra of events are introduced following Birkhoff and von Neumann. All axioms, except the one that expresses the uncertainty principle, are shared with the classical event space. The only models for the set of axioms are lattices of subspaces of inner product spaces over a field K. (b) Another axiom due to Soler forces K to be the field of real, or complex numbers, or the quaternions. We suggest a probabilistic reading of Soler's axiom. (c) Gleason's theorem fully characterizes the probability measures on the algebra of events, so that Born's rule is derived. (d) Gleason's theorem is equivalent to the existence of a certain finite set of rays, with a particular orthogonality graph (Wondergraph). Consequently, all aspects of quantum probability can be derived from rational probability assignments to finite "quantum gambles". We apply the approach to the analysis of entanglement, Bell inequalities, and the quantum theory of macroscopic objects. We also discuss the relation of the present approach to quantum logic, realism and truth, and the measurement problem.
Uniqueness of Bohmian Mechanics, and Solutions From Probability Conservation
我们证明了一维玻姆力学是唯一的,因为玻姆轨道是唯一的解决方案,保存总左(或右)的概率。在Brandt等人的研究中,Phys. Lett.
We discuss the possibility to formulate the dynamics of spin states described by the Schrodinger equation for pure states and the von Neumann equation (as well as the GKSL equation) for mixed states in the form of quantum kinetic equations for probability distributions. We review an approach to the spin-state description by means of the probability distributions of dichotomic random variables.
The continuous quantum measurement within the probability representation of quantum mechanics is discussed. The partial classical propagator of the symplectic tomogram associated to a particular measurement outcome is introduced, for which the representation of a continuous measurement through the restricted path integral is applied. The classical propagator for the system undergoing a non-selective measurement is derived by summing these partial propagators over the entire outcome set. The elaborated approach is illustrated by considering non-selective position measurement of a quantum oscill…
Glauber coherent states of quantum systems are reviewed. We construct the tomographic probability distributions of the oscillator states. The possibility to describe quantum states by tomographic probability distributions (tomograms) is presented on an example of coherent states of parametric oscillator. The integrals of motion linear in the position and momentum are used to explicitly obtain the tomogram evolution expressed in terms of trajectories of classical parametric oscillator
Probability densities that are not uniquely determined by their moments are said to be "moment-indeterminate", or "M-indeterminate". Determining whether or not a density is M-indeterminate, or how to generate an M-indeterminate density, is a challenging problem with a long history. Quantum mechanics is inherently probabilistic, yet the way in which probability densities are obtained is dramatically different in comparison to standard probability theory, involving complex wave functions and operators, among other aspects. Nevertheless, the end results are standard probabilistic quantities, such…
In this work, the operator-sum representation of a quantum process is extended to the probability representation of quantum mechanics. It is shown that each process admitting the operator-sum representation is assigned a kernel, convolving of which with the initial tomogram set characterizing the system state gives the tomographic state of the transformed system. This kernel, in turn, is broken into the kernels of partial operations, each of them incorporating the symbol of the evolution operator related to the joint evolution of the system and an ancillary environment. Such a kernel decomposi…
Review of tomographic probability representation of quantum states is presented both for oscillator systems with continious variables and spin--systems with discrete variables. New entropic--information inequalities are obtained for Franck--Condon factors. Density matrices of qudit states are expressed in terms of probabilities of artificial qubits as well as the quantum suprematism approach to geometry of these states using the triadas of Malevich squares is developed. Examples of qubits, qutrits and ququarts are considered.
Logical inference leads to one of the major interpretations of probability theory called logical interpretation, in which the probability is seen as a measure of the plausibility of a logical statement under incomplete information. In this paper, assuming that our usual inference procedure makes sense for every set of logical propositions represented in terms of commuting projectors on a given Hilbert space, we extend the logical interpretation to quantum mechanics and derive the Born rule. Our result implies that, from the epistemological viewpoints, we can regard quantum mechanics as a natur…
An analog of classical "hidden variables" for qubit states is presented. The states of qubit (two-level atom, spin-1/2 particle) are mapped onto the states of three classical--like coins. The bijective map of the states corresponds to the presence of correlations of random classical--like variables associated with the coin positions "up" or "down" and the observables are mapped onto quantum observables described by Hermitian matrices. The connection of the classical--coin statistics with the statistical properties of qubits is found.
Relational formulation of quantum mechanics is based on the idea that relational properties among quantum systems, instead of the independent properties of a quantum system, are the most fundamental elements to construct quantum mechanics. In a recent paper (J. M. Yang, Sci. Rep. 8:13305, 2018), basic relational quantum mechanics framework is formulated to derive quantum probability, Born's Rule, Schrödinger Equations, and measurement theory. This paper further extends the reformulation effort in three aspects. First, it gives a clearer explanation of the key concepts behind the framework to c…
Probability is an important question in the ontological interpretation of quantum mechanics. It has been discussed in some trajectory interpretations such as Bohmian mechanics and stochastic mechanics. New questions arise when the probability domain extends to the complex space, including the generation of complex trajectory, the definition of the complex probability, and the relation of the complex probability to the quantum probability. The complex treatment proposed in this article applies the optimal quantum guidance law to derive the stochastic differential equation governing a particle r…
