Let $f(z) = z^2 + c$ be a quadratic polynomial, with c in the Mandelbrot set. Assume further that both fixed points of f are repelling, and that f is not renormalizable. Then we prove that the Julia set J of f is holomorphically removable in the sense that every homeomorphism of the complex plane to itself that is conformal off of J is in fact conformal on the entire complex plane. As a corollary, we deduce that the Mandelbrot Set is locally connected at such c.
We build measurable holomorphic motions for Julia sets of holomorphic families of endomorphisms of CP(k) under various equivalent notions of stability.
In this article, we introduce the concept of normal families of bicomplex holomorphic functions to obtain a bicomplex Montel theorem. Moreover, we give a general definition of Fatou and Julia sets for bicomplex polynomials and we obtain a characterization of bicomplex Fatou and Julia sets in terms of Fatou set, Julia set and filled-in Julia set of one complex variable. Some 3D visual examples of bicomplex Julia sets are also given for the specific slice $\bold{j}=0$.
We investigate to what extent Fatou set, Julia set and escaping set of transcendental semigroup is respectively equal to the Fatou set, Julia set and escaping set of its subsemigroup. We define partial fundamental set and fundamental set of transcendental semigroup and on the basis of this set, we prove that Fatou set and escaping set of transcendental semigroup $ S $ are non-empty.
In this paper, we prove that escaping set of transcendental semigroup is S-forward invariant. We also prove that if holomorphic semigroup is abelian, then Fatou set, Julia set and escaping set are S-completely invariant. We see certain cases and conditions that the holomorphic semigroup dynamics exhibits same dynamical behavior just like the classical complex dynamics. Frequently, we also examine certain amount of connection and contrast between classical complex dynamics and holomorphic semigroup dynamics.

The McMullen-Sullivan holomorphic motion for topologically conjugate, complex polynomials with connected Julia set follows level sets of the Bottcher coordinate. The Buzzard-Verma holomorphic motion for hyperbolic, unstably connected, polynomial diffeomorphisms of C^2 follows level sets of the Bedford-Smillie solenoid map. It follows that this solenoid map is a conjugacy for those Henon maps that are perturbations of (one-dimensional) hyperbolic maps with connected Julia set.
We study quasiconformal deformations and mixing properties of hyperbolic sets in the family of holomorphic correspondences z^r +c, where r >1 is rational. Julia sets in this family are projections of Julia sets of holomorphic maps on C^2, which are skew-products when r is integer, and solenoids when r is non-integer and c is close to zero. Every hyperbolic Julia set in C^2 moves holomorphically. The projection determines a branched holomorphic motion with local (and sometimes global) parameterisations of the plane Julia set by quasiconformal curves.
Let $f:\bar\bold C\to\bar\bold C$ be a rational map on the Riemann sphere , such that for every $f$-critical point $c\in J$ which forward trajectory does not contain any other critical point, $|(f^n)'(f(c))|$ grows exponentially fast (Collet--Eckmann condition), there are no parabolic periodic points, and else such that Julia set is not the whole sphere. Then smooth (Riemann) measure of the Julia set is 0. For $f$ satisfying additionally Masato Tsujii's condition that the average distance of $f^n(c)$ from the set of critical points is not too small, we prove that Hausdorff dimension of Julia s…
Working within the polynomial quadratic family, we introduce a new point of view on bifurcations which naturally allows to see the seat of bifurcations as the projection of a Julia set of a complex dynamical system in dimension three. We expect our approach to be extendable to other holomorphic families of dynamical systems.
A theorem of Ritt states the a linearizer of a holomorphic function at a repelling fixed point is periodic only if the holomorphic map is conjugate to a power of $z$, a Chebyshev polynomial or a Lattès map. The converse, except for some exceptions, is also true. In this paper, we prove the analogous statement in the setting of strongly automorphic quasiregular mappings and uniformly quasiregular mappings in $\mathbb{R}^n$. Along the way, we characterize the possible automorphy groups that can arise via crystallographic orbifolds and a use of the Poincaré conjecture. We further give a classific…
If the preimage of a four-point set under a meromorphic function belongs to the real line, then the image of the real line is contained in a circle in the Riemann sphere. We include an application of this result to holomorphic dynamics: if the Julia set of a rational function is contained in a smooth curve then it is contained in a circle.
For any polynomial map with a single critical point, we prove that its lower Lyapunov exponent at the critical value is negative if and only if the map has an attracting cycle. Similar statement holds for the exponential maps and some other complex dynamical systems. We prove further that for the unicritical polynomials with positive area Julia sets almost every point of the Julia set has zero Lyapunov exponent. Part of this statement generalizes as follows: every point with positive upper Lyapunov exponent in the Julia set of an arbitrary polynomial is not a Lebegue density point.
The purpose of this paper is to initiate a theory concerning the dynamics of asymptotically holomorphic polynomial-like maps. Our maps arise naturally as deep renormalizations of asymptotically holomorphic extensions of $C^r$ ($r>3$) unimodal maps that are infinitely renormalizable of bounded type. Here we prove a version of the Fatou-Julia-Sullivan theorem and a topological straightening theorem in this setting. In particular, these maps do not have wandering domains and their Julia sets are locally connected.
We prove that every transcendental meromorphic map f with a disconnected Julia set has a weakly repelling fixed point. This implies that the Julia set of Newton's method for finding zeroes of an entire map is connected. Moreover, extending a result of Cowen for holomorphic self-maps of the disc, we show the existence of absorbing domains for holomorphic self-maps of hyperbolic regions whose iterates tend to a boundary point. In particular, the results imply that periodic Baker domains of Newton's method for entire maps are simply connected, which solves a well-known open question.
In 2001 E. Ghys, X. Gomez-Mont and J. Saludes defined the Fatou and Julia components of transversely holomorphic foliations on compact manifolds. It is a partition of the manifold in two saturated sets: the Fatou set which represents the non-chaotic part of the foliation and its complementary, the Julia set. Using the Brownian motion transverse to the foliation, it is proved in this paper that, if the foliation is taut and if F is a wandering component of the Fatou set, then almost every point of the topological boundary of F (almost for any harmonic measure on the boundary) is a limit point o…
Let $f:\mathbb{C}\sp n\to\mathbb{C}\sp n$, $n\geq2$, be a biholomorphism and let $Λ\subseteq \mathbb{C}\sp n$ be a compact $f$-invariant set such that $f|Λ$ is partially hyperbolic. We give equivalent conditions to hyperbolicity on $Λ$. In the particular case of generalized Hénon map with dominated splitting in the Julia set $J$, we characterize the hyperbolicity of $J$.
Not much is known about the dynamics outside the support of the maximal entropy measure $μ$ for holomorphic endomorphisms of $\mathbb{CP}^k$. In this article we study the structure of the dynamics on the Julia set, which is typically larger than $Supp(μ)$. The Julia set is the support of the so-called Green current $T$, so it admits a natural filtration by the supports of the exterior powers of $T$. For $1\leq q \leq k$, let $J_q= Supp(T^q)$. We show that for a generic point of $J_q\setminus J_{q+1}$ there are at least $(k-q)$ "Fatou directions" in the tangent space. We also give estimates for…
Chebyshev maps in the complex plane are typical chaotic maps. Veselov generalized these map. We consider a class of those maps and view them as holomorphic endomorphisms on the 3-dimensional complex projective space and make use of the theory of complex dynamics in higher dimension. We determine Julia sets and external rays of those maps, exactly. In the Julia sets, Moebius strip and a special ruled surface appear. We also show some relation between those maps and binary quartic forms.
In holomorphic semigroup dynamics, Julia set is in general backward invariant and so some fundamental results of classical complex dynamics can not be generalized to semigroup dynamics. In this paper, we define completely invariant Julia set of transcendental semigroup and we see how far the results of classical transcendental dynamics generalized to transcendental semigroup dynamics.
We consider the dynamics arising from the iteration of an arbitrary sequence of polynomials with uniformly bounded degrees and coefficients and show that, as parameters vary within a single hyperbolic component in parameter space, certain properties of the corresponding Julia sets are preserved. In particular, we show that if the sequence is hyperbolic and all the Julia sets are connected, then the whole basin at infinity moves holomorphically. This extends also to the landing points of external rays and the resultant holomorphic motion of the Julia sets coincides with that obtained earlier us…
The Fatou-Julia decomposition is significant in the study of iterations of holomorphic mappings. Such a decomposition can be also considered for foliations in a unified manner. Although the decomposition will be fundamental in the study, it is not easy to decide the decomposition. In this article, we give a sufficient condition for open sets to be contained in Fatou sets. We also discuss relations between Fatou--Julia decompositions and minimal sets.
We show that if $β>1$ is a rational number and the Julia set $J$ of the holomorphic correspondence $z^β+c$ is a locally eventually onto hyperbolic repeller, then the Hausdorff dimension of $J$ is bounded from above by the zero of the associated pressure function. As a consequence, we conclude that the Julia set of the correspondence has zero Lebesgue measure for parameters close to zero, whenever $q^2<p$ and $β=p/q$ in lowest terms.
The goal of this paper is to study some basic properties of the Fatou and Julia sets for a family of holomorphic endomorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^k,\; k \ge 2$. We are particularly interested in studying these sets for semigroups generated by various classes of holomorphic endomorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^k,\; k \ge 2.$ We prove that if the Julia set of a semigroup $G$ which is generated by endomorphisms of maximal generic rank $k$ in $\mathbb{C}^k$ contains an isolated point, then $G$ must contain an element that is conjugate to an upper triangular automorphism of $\mathbb{C}^k.$ This generalizes a t…
This survey is an introduction to the classification of Fatou components in holomorphic dynamics. We start with the description of the Fatou and Julia sets for rational maps of the Riemann sphere, and finish with an account of the recent results on Fatou components for polynomial skew-products in complex dimension two, where we focus on the key steps in the construction giving the existence of a wandering domain for a polynomial endomorphism of $\mathbb{C}^2$.
A holomorphic endomorphism f of CP^2 admits a Julia set J_1, defined as usual to be the locus of non-normality of its iterates, and a (typically) smaller Julia set J_2, which is essentially the closure of the set of repelling periodic orbits. The question has been raised whether J_1\J_2 is filled (possibly in a measure-theoretic sense) with "Fatou subvarieties" along which the dynamics is locally equicontinuous. In this article we construct examples showing that this is not the case in general
Let $F$ be a polynomial endomorphism of $\C^n$ which extends holomorphically to $¶^n$. We prove that the dimension of $μ_F$, the pluriharmonic measure on the boundary of the filled Julia set of $F$, is bounded above by $2n-1$.
In this paper we give a unified proof of the fact that the Julia set of Newton's method applied to a holomorphic function of the complex plane (a polynomial of degree large than $1$ or an entire transcendental function) is connected. The result was recently completed by the authors' previous work, as a consequence of a more general theorem whose proof spreads among many papers, which consider separately a number of particular cases for rational and transcendental maps, and use a variety of techniques. In this note we present a unified, direct and reasonably self-contained proof which works for…
For the quadratic family $f_{c}(z) = z^2+c$ with $c$ in the exterior of the Mandelbrot set, it is known that every point in the Julia set moves holomorphically. Let $\hat{c}$ be a semi-hyperbolic parameter in the boundary of the Mandelbrot set. In this paper we prove that for each $z = z(c)$ in the Julia set, the derivative $dz(c)/dc$ is uniformly $O(1/\sqrt{|c-\hat{c}|})$ when $c$ belongs to a parameter ray that lands on $\hat{c}$. We also characterize the degeneration of the dynamics along the parameter ray.
We prove a version of the classical $λ$-lemma for holomorphic families of Riemann surfaces. We then use it to show that critical loci for complex Hénon maps that are small perturbations of quadratic polynomials with Cantor Julia sets are all quasiconformally equivalent.
This article discusses some topological properties of the dynamical plane ($z$-plane) of the holomorphic family of meromorphic maps $λ+ \tan z^2$ for $ λ\in \mathbb C$. In the dynamical plane, we prove that there is no Herman ring, and the Julia set is a Cantor set for the maps when the parameter is in the unbounded hyperbolic component contained in the four quadrants in the complex plane. Julia set is connected for the maps when the parameters are in other hyperbolic components of the parameter plane.
We consider non-i.i.d. random holomorphic dynamical systems whose choice of maps depends on Markovian rules. We show that generically, such a system is mean stable or chaotic with full Julia set. If a system is mean stable, then the Lyapunov exponent is uniformly negative for every initial value and almost every random orbit. Moreover, we consider families of random holomorphic dynamical systems and show that the set of mean stable systems has full measure under certain conditions. The latter is a new result even for i.i.d. random dynamical systems.
Complex dynamics deals with the iteration of holomorphic functions. As is well- known, the first functions to be studied which gave non-trivial dynamics were quadratic polynomials, which produced beautiful computer generated pictures of Julia sets and the Mandelbrot set. In the same spirit, this article aims to study the dynamics of the simplest non-trivial quasiregular mappings. These are mappings in R^2 which are a composition of a quadratic polynomial and an affine stretch.
Let $(f_λ)_{λ\in Λ}$ be a holomorphic family of polynomial automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^2$. Following previous work of Dujardin and Lyubich, we say that such a family is weakly stable if saddle periodic orbits do not bifurcate. It is an open question whether this property is equivalent to structural stability on the Julia set $J^*$ (that is, the closure of the set of saddle periodic points). In this paper we introduce a notion of regular point for a polynomial automorphism, inspired by Pesin theory, and prove that in a weakly stable family, the set of regular points moves holomorphically. It f…

This note concerns non-autonomous dynamics of rational functions and, more precisely, the fractal behavior of the Julia sets under perturbation of non-autonomous systems. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for holomorphic stability which leads to Hölder continuity of dimensions of hyperbolic non-autonomous Julia sets with respect to the $l^\infty$-topology on the parameter space. On the other hand we show that, for some particular family, the Hausdorff and packing dimension functions are not differentiable at any point and that these dimensions are not equal on an open dense set o…
Let $f$ be an holomorphic endomorphism of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^k$. We construct by using coding techniques a class of ergodic measures as limits of non-uniform probability measures on preimages of points. We show that they have large metric entropy, close to $\log d^k$. We establish for them strong stochastic properties and prove the positivity of their Lyapunov exponents. Since they have large entropy, those measures are supported in the support of the maximal entropy measure of $f$. They in particular provide lower bounds for the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set.
This paper establishes the geometric rigidity of certain holomorphic correspondences in the family $(w-c)^q=z^p,$ whose post-critical set is finite in any bounded domain of $\mathbb{C}.$ In spite of being rigid on the sphere, such correspondences are $J$-stable by means of holomorphic motions when viewed as maps of $\mathbb{C}^2.$ The key idea is the association of a conformal iterated function system to the return branches near the critical point, giving a global description of the post-critical set. We also show that Julia sets of any perturbation of such correspondences are obtained as $α$ …
We study the different rates of escape of points under iteration by holomorphic self-maps of $\mathbb C^*=\mathbb C\setminus\{ 0\}$ for which both 0 and $\infty$ are essential singularities. Using annular covering lemmas we construct different types of orbits, including fast escaping and arbitrarily slowly escaping orbits to either 0, $\infty$ or both. We also prove several properties about the set of fast escaping points for this class of functions. In particular, we show that there is an uncountable collection of disjoint sets of fast escaping points each of which has the Julia set as its bo…
Let $K$ be a compact subset of $\bar{\bold C} ={\bold R}^2$ and let $K^c$ denote its complement. We say $K\in HR$, $K$ is holomorphically removable, if whenever $F:\bar{\bold C} \to\bar{\bold C}$ is a homeomorphism and $F$ is holomorphic off $K$, then $F$ is a Möbius transformation. By composing with a Möbius transform, we may assume $F(\infty )=\infty$. The contribution of this paper is to show that a large class of sets are $HR$. Our motivation for these results is that these sets occur naturally (e.g. as certain Julia sets) in dynamical systems, and the property of being $HR$ plays an impor…
We investigate the random dynamics of rational maps on the Riemann sphere and the dynamics of semigroups of rational maps on the Riemann sphere. We show that regarding random complex dynamics of polynomials, in most cases, the chaos of the averaged system disappears, due to the cooperation of the generators. We investigate the iteration and spectral properties of transition operators. We show that under certain conditions, in the limit stage, "singular functions on the complex plane" appear. In particular, we consider the functions $T$ which represent the probability of tending to infinity wit…

A frequent problem in holomorphic dynamics is to prove local connectivity of Julia sets and of many points of the Mandelbrot set; local connectivity has many interesting implications. The intention of this paper is to present a new point of view for this problem: we introduce fibers of these sets, and the goal becomes to show that fibers are ``trivial'', i.e. they consist of single points. The idea is to show ``shrinking of puzzle pieces'' without using specific puzzles. This implies local connectivity at these points, but triviality of fibers is a somewhat stronger property than local connect…
We study the escaping set of functions in the class $\mathcal B^*$, that is, holomorphic functions $f:\mathbb C^*\to\mathbb C^*$ for which both zero and infinity are essential singularities, and the set of singular values of $f$ is contained in a compact annulus of $\mathbb C^*$. For functions in the class $\mathcal B^*$, escaping points lie in their Julia set. If $f$ is a composition of finite order transcendental self-maps of $\mathbb C^*$ (and hence, in the class $\mathcal B^*$), then we show that every escaping point of $f$ can be connected to one of the essential singularities by a curve …
