We compare the Chen-Ruan cohomology ring of the weighted projective spaces $\IP(1,3,4,4)$ and $\IP(1,...,1,n)$ with the cohomology ring of their crepant resolutions. In both cases, we prove that the Chen-Ruan cohomology ring is isomorphic to the quantum corrected cohomology ring of the crepant resolution after suitable evaluation of the quantum parameters. For this, we prove a formula for the Gromov-Witten invariants of the resolution of a transversal ${\rm A}_3$ singularity.
For Gorenstein quotient spaces $C^d/G$, a direct generalization of the classical McKay correspondence in dimensions $d\geq 4$ would primarily demand the existence of projective, crepant desingularizations. Since this turned out to be not always possible, Reid asked about special classes of such quotient spaces which would satisfy the above property. We prove that the underlying spaces of all Gorenstein abelian quotient singularities, which are embeddable as complete intersections of hypersurfaces in an affine space, have torus-equivariant projective crepant resolutions in all dimensions. We us…
It is known that the underlying spaces of all abelian quotient singularities which are embeddable as complete intersections of hypersurfaces in an affine space can be overall resolved by means of projective torus-equivariant crepant birational morphisms in all dimensions. In the present paper we extend this result to the entire class of toric l.c.i.-singularities. Our proof makes use of Nakajima's classification theorem and of some special techniques from toric and discrete geometry.
We prove the cohomological crepant resolution conjecture of Ruan for the weighted projective space P(1,3,4,4). To compute the quantum corrected cohomology ring we combine the results of Coates-Corti-Iritani-Tseng on P(1,1,1,3) and our previous results.
One of our results of this article is that every (projective) crepant resolution of a Slodowy slice in a nilpotent orbit closure in $\mathfrak{sl}_N(\mathbb{C})$ can be obtained as the restriction of some crepant resolution of the nilpotent orbit closure. We also show that there is a decomposition of the Slodowy slice into other Slodowy slices with good properties. From this decomposition, one can count the number of crepant resolutions.
In this paper we prove that the Gorenstein cyclic quotient singularities of type \frac 1l (1,..., 1,l-(r-1)) with $l\geq r\geq 2$, have a \textit{unique}torus-equivariant projective, crepant, partial resolution, which is ``full'' iff either $l\equiv 0$ mod $% (r-1) $ or $l\equiv 1$ mod $(r-1) $. As it turns out, if one of these two conditions is fulfilled, then the exceptional locus of the full desingularization consists of $\lfloor \frac{l}{r-1} \rfloor$ prime divisors, $\lfloor \frac{l}{r-1}\rfloor - 1$ of which are isomorphic to the total spaces of $\Bbb{P}_{\Bbb{C}}^1$-bundles over $\Bbb{P…
We study variations of tautological bundles on moduli spaces of representations of quivers with relations associated with dimer models under a change of stability parameters. We prove that if the tautological bundle induces a derived equivalence for some stability parameter, then the same holds for any generic stability parameter, and any projective crepant resolution can be obtained as the moduli space for some stability parameter. This result is used in 0905.0059 to prove the abelian McKay correspondence without using the result of math/9908027.
We say that an exact equivalence between the derived categories of two algebraic varieties is tilting-type if it is constructed by using tilting bundles. The aim of this article is to understand the behavior of tilting-type equivalences for crepant resolutions under deformations. As an application of the method that we establish in this article, we study the derived equivalence for stratified Mukai flops and stratified Atiyah flops in terms of tilting bundles.
Let $M_c=M(2,0,c)$ be the moduli space of O(1)-semistable rank 2 torsion-free sheaves with Chern classes $c_1=0$ and $c_2=c$ on a K3 surface $X$ where O(1) is a generic ample line bundle on $X$. When $c=2n\geq4$ is even, $M_c$ is a singular projective variety equipped with a symplectic structure on the smooth locus. In this paper, we show that there is no crepant resolution of $M_{2n}$ for $n\geq 3$. This implies that there is no symplectic desingularization.
Let J be an abelian surface with a generic ample line bundle O(1). For n>0, the moduli space M(2, 0, 2n) of O(1)-semistable sheaves F of rank 2 with Chern classes c_1(F) = 0, c_2(F) = 2n is a singular projective variety, endowed with a holomorphic symplectic structure on the smooth locus. In this paper, we show that there does not exist a crepant resolution of M(2; 0; 2n) for n>1. This certainly implies that there is no symplectic desingularization of M(2, 0, 2n) for n>1.

An immediate generalization of the classical McKay correspondence for Gorenstein quotient spaces $\Bbb{C}^{r}/G$ in dimensions $r\geq 4$ would primarily demand the existence of projective, crepant, full desingularizations. Since this is not always possible, it is natural to ask about special classes of such quotient spaces which would satisfy the above property. In this paper we give explicit necessary and sufficient conditions under which 2-parameter series of Gorenstein cyclic quotient singularities have torus-equivariant resolutions of this specific sort in all dimensions.
Let π: Y -> X be a crepant projective resolution of an affine symplectic variety X with a good C^*-action. We interpret the second cohomology H^2(Y, C) in two ways. First, H^2(Y, C) is the Picard group of Y tensorised with C. By the ample cones of different crepant resolutions of X, there is a natural chamber structure in H^2(Y, C). The second interpretation of H^2(Y, C) is the base space of the universal Poisson deformation $\mathcal Y$ of Y. Let D \subset H^2(Y, C) be the locus where the corresponding Poisson varieties are not affine. Then D is the union of finite number of hyperplanes, whic…
We shall prove that the Poisson deformation functor of an affine (singular) symplectic variety is unobstructed. As a corollary, we prove the following result. Theorem: For an affine symplectic variety $X$ with a good $C^*$-action (where its natural Poisson structure is positively weighted), the following are equivalent (1) $X$ has a crepant projective resolution. (2) $X$ has a smoothing by a Poisson deformation.
In this paper, we prove that Ruan's Cohomological Crepant Resolution Conjecture holds for the Hilbert-Chow morphisms. There are two main ideas in the proof. The first one is to use the representation theoretic approach proposed in [QW] which involves vertex operator techniques. The second is to prove certain universality structures about the 3-pointed genus-0 extremal Gromov-Witten invariants of the Hilbert schemes by using the indexing techniques from [LiJ], the product formula from [Beh2] and the co-section localization from [KL1, KL2, LL]. We then reduce Ruan's Conjecture from the case of a…
We prove that all projective crepant resolutions of Nakajima quiver varieties satisfying natural conditions are also Nakajima quiver varieties. More generally, we classify the small birational models of many Geometric Invariant Theory (GIT) quotients by introducing a sufficient condition for the GIT quotient of an affine variety $V$ by the action of a reductive group $G$ to be a relative Mori Dream Space. Two surprising examples illustrate that our new condition is optimal. When the condition holds, we show that the linearisation map identifies a region of the GIT fan with the Mori chamber dec…
Let $G$ be a polyhedral group $G\subset SO(3)$ of types $\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$, $D_{2n}$ and $\mathbb{T}$. We prove that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between flops of $G$-Hilb$\mathbb{C}^3$ and mutations of the McKay quiver with potential which do not mutate the trivial vertex. This correspondence provides two equivalent methods to construct every projective crepant resolution for the singularities $\mathbb{C}^3/G$, which are constructed as moduli spaces $\mathcal{M}_C$ of quivers with potential for some chamber $C$ in the space $Θ$ of stability conditions. In addition, we study …
For which finite subgroups G of SL(r,C), r \geq 4, are there crepant desingularizations of the quotient space C^r/G? A complete answer to this question (also known as "Existence Problem" for such desingularizations) would classify all those groups for which the high-dimensional versions of McKay correspondence are valid. In the paper we consider this question in the case of abelian finite subgroups of SL(r,C) by using techniques from toric and discrete geometry. We give two necessary existence conditions, involving the Hilbert basis elements of the cone supporting the junior simplex, and an Up…
We consider 18 families of elliptic Calabi--Yaus which arise in constructing $F$-theory compactifications of string vacua, and show in each case that the upper Hodge diamond of a crepant resolution of the associated Weierstrass model coincides with the upper Hodge diamond of the (blown up) projective bundle in which the crepant resolution is naturally embedded. Such results are unexpected, as each crepant resolution we consider does \emph{not} satisfy the hypotheses of the Lefschetz hyperplane theorem. In light of such findings, we suspect that all ellipitic Calabi--Yaus satisfy such a `Lefsch…
We shall prove that any small deformation of a Q-factorial projective symplectic variety with terminal singularities is locally rigid; in other words, it preserves the singularity. In particular, many singular symplectic moduli of semi-stable sheaves on K3 have no smoothings via deformations. As an application of the result, we also prove that the smootheness is preserved under a flop in our symplectic case. We conjecture that a projective symplectic variety has a smoothing by a flat deformation if and only if it has a crepant (symplectic) resolution. This conjecture would be true if the minim…
We study crepant resolutions of Weierstrass models of $\text{SU}(2)\!\times\!\text{SU}(3)$-models, whose gauge group describes the non-abelian sector of the Standard Model. The $\text{SU}(2)\!\times\!\text{SU}(3)$-models are elliptic fibrations characterized by the collision of two Kodaira fibers with dual graphs that are affine Dynkin diagrams of type $\widetilde{\text{A}}_1$ and $\widetilde{\text{A}}_2$. Once we eliminate those collisions that do not have crepant resolutions, we are left with six distinct collisions that are related to each other by deformations. Each of these six collisions…
Folding of ADE-Dynkin diagrams according to graph automorphisms yields irreducible Dynkin diagrams of ABCDEFG-types. This folding procedure allows to trace back the properties of the corresponding simple Lie algebras or groups to those of ADE-type. In this article, we implement the techniques of folding by graph automorphisms for Hitchin integrable systems. We show that the fixed point loci of these automorphisms are isomorphic as algebraic integrable systems to the Hitchin systems of the folded groups away from singular fibers. The latter Hitchin systems are isomorphic to the intermediate Jac…
This is a continuation of math.AG/0609741. Let Y be an affine symplectic variety with a C^*-action with positive weights, and let π: X -> Y be its crepant resolution. Then πinduces a natural map PDef(X) -> PDef(Y) of Kuranishi spaces for the Poisson deformations of X and Y. In the Part I, we proved that PDef(X) and PDef(Y) are both non-singular, and this map is a finite surjective map. In this paper (Part II), we prove that it is a Galois covering. Markman already obtained a similar result in the compact case, which was a motivation of this paper. As an application, we shall construct explicit…
We study global deformations of certain projective bundles over projective spaces. We show that any projective global deformation of a projective bundle over $\bP^1$ carries the structure of a projective bundle over some projective space. Furthermore, we construct examples in arbitrary dimension $\ge 3$ of almost homogeneous Fano projective bundles over $\bP^2$ which can be globally deformed to non-almost homogeneous manifolds.
The main result of the present paper concerns finiteness properties of Floer theoretic invariants on affine log Calabi-Yau varieties $X$. Namely, we show that: (a) the degree zero symplectic cohomology $SH^0(X)$ is finitely generated and is a filtered deformation of a certain algebra defined combinatorially in terms of a compactifying divisor $\mathbf{D}.$ (b) For any Lagrangian branes $L_0, L_1$, the wrapped Floer groups $WF^*(L_0,L_1)$ are finitely generated modules over $SH^0(X).$ We then describe applications of this result to mirror symmetry, the first of which is an ``automatic generatio…
In this paper we study projective flat deformations of projective spaces. We prove that the singular fibers of projective flat deformations of projective spaces appear either in codimension 1 or over singular points of the base. We also describe projective flat deformations of projective spaces with smooth total space, and discuss flatness criteria.
In most cases where it had been shown to exist the derived McKay correspondence D(Y) --> D^G(C^n) can be written as a Fourier-Mukai transform which sends point sheaves of the crepant resolution Y to pure sheaves in D^G(C^n). We give a sufficient condition for an object of D^G(Y x C^n) to be the defining object of such a transform. We use it to construct the first example of the derived McKay correspondence for a non-projective crepant resolution of C^3/G. Along the way we extract some more geometric sense out of the Intersection Theorem and learn to explicitly compute theta-stable families of …
We give an equivalence of triangulated categories between the derived category of finitely generated representations of symplectic reflection algebras associated with wreath products (with parameter t=0) and the derived category of coherent sheaves on a crepant resolution of the spectrum of the centre of these algebras.
Based on an identity of Jacobi, we prove a simple formula that computes the pushforward of analytic functions of the exceptional divisor of a blowup of a projective variety along a smooth complete intersection with normal crossing. We apply this pushforward formula to derive generating functions for Euler characteristics of crepant resolutions of singular Weierstrass models given by Tate's algorithm. Since these Euler characteristics depend only on the sequence of blowups and not on the Kodaira fiber itself, nor the associated group, several distinct Tate models have the same Euler characteris…
We investigate the relationship between the Lagrangian Floer superpotentials for a toric orbifold and its toric crepant resolutions. More specifically, we study an open string version of the crepant resolution conjecture (CRC) which states that the Lagrangian Floer superpotential of a Gorenstein toric orbifold $\mathcal{X}$ and that of its toric crepant resolution $Y$ coincide after analytic continuation of quantum parameters and a change of variables. Relating this conjecture with the closed CRC, we find that the change of variable formula which appears in closed CRC can be explained by relat…
Symmetric varieties are normal equivariant open embeddings of symmetric homogeneous spaces and they are interesting examples of spherical varieties. The principal goal of this article is to study the rigidity under Kähler deformations of smooth projective symmetric varieties with Picard number one.
A configuration of 7 points in RP2 is called typical if it has no collinear triples and no coconic sextuples of points. We show that there exist 14 deformation classes of such configurations. This yields classification of real Aronhold sets.
Let $k$ be a perfect field of positive characteristic and $Z$ an effective Cartier divisor in the projective line over $k$ with complement $U$. In this note, we establish some results about the formal deformation theory of overconvergent isocrystals on $U$ with fixed "local monodromy" along $Z$. En route, we show that a Hochschild cochain complex governs deformations of a module over an arbitrary associative algebra. We also relate this Hochschild cochain complex to a de Rham complex in order to understand the deformation theory of a differential module over a differential ring.
We seek to characterize homology classes of Lagrangian projective spaces embedded in irreducible holomorphic-symplectic manifolds, up to the action of the monodromy group. This paper addresses the case of manifolds deformation-equivalent to the Hilbert scheme of length-three subschemes of a K3 surface. The class of the projective space in the cohomology ring has prescribed intersection properties, which translate into Diophantine equations. Possible homology classes correspond to integral points on an explicit elliptic curve; our proof entails showing that the only such point is two-torsion.
We study the birational geometry of deformations of Hilbert schemes of points on the projective plane P2. We complete the picture in the paper of Daniele Arcara, Aaron Bertram, Izzet Coskun and Jack Huizenga by giving an explicit correspondence between the stable base locus walls on the Neron-Severi space and the actual walls on the Bridgeland stability space. We show that the birational geometry of a deformed Hilb P2 is different from that of Hilb P2.
Let $X_1$ and $X_2$ be deformation equivalent projective hyperkähler manifolds. We prove that the André motive of $X_1$ is abelian if and only if the André motive of $X_2$ is abelian. Applying this to manifolds of $\mbox{K3}^{[n]}$, generalized Kummer and OG6 deformation types, we deduce that their André motives are abelian. As a consequence, we prove that all Hodge classes in arbitrary degree on such manifolds are absolute. We discuss applications to the Mumford-Tate conjecture, showing in particular that it holds for even degree cohomology of such manifolds.
We study complex compact Kaehler manifolds $X$ carrying a contact structure. If $X$ is almost homogeneous and $b_2(X) \geq 2$, then $X$ is a projectivised tangent bundle (this was known in the projective case even without assumption on the existence of vector fields). We further show that a global projective deformation of the projectivised tangent bundle over a projective space is again of this type unless it is the projectivisation of a special unstable bundle over a projective space. Examples for these bundles are given in any dimension.
We study first order deformations of the tangent sheaf of resolutions of Calabi-Yau threefolds that are of the form $\mathbb{C}^3/Z_r$, focusing on the cases where the orbifold has an isolated singularity. We prove a lower bound on the number of deformations for any crepant resolution of this orbifold. We show that this lower bound is achieved when the resolution used is the G-Hilbert scheme, and note that this lower bound can be found using methods from string theory. These methods lead us to a new way to construct the G-Hilbert scheme using the singlet count.
This is a continuation of math.AG/0408274, where we have described the relative movable cone for a Springer resolution of the closure of a nilpotent orbit in a complex simple Lie algebra. But, in general, the movable cone does not coincide with the whole space of numerical classes of divisors on the Springer resolution. The purpose of this paper is, to describe the remainder. We shall first construct a deformation of the nilpotent orbit closure in a canonical manner according to Brieskorn and Slodowy, and next describe all its crepant simultaneous resolutions. This construction enables us to d…
We prove that two projective symplectic resolutions of $\cit^{2n}/G$ are connected by Mukai flops in codimension 2 for a finite sub-group $G < \Sp(2n)$. It is also shown that two projective symplectic resolutions of $\cit^4/G$ are deformation equivalent.
We investigate the relation between the Hodge theory of a smooth subcanonical $n$-dimensional projective variety $X$ and the deformation theory of the affine cone $A_X$ over $X$. We start by identifying $H^{n-1,1}_{\mathrm{prim}}(X)$ as a distinguished graded component of the module of first order deformations of $A_X$, and later on we show how to identify the whole primitive cohomology of $X$ as a distinguished graded component of the Hochschild cohomology module of the punctured affine cone over $X$. In the particular case of a projective smooth hypersurface $X$ we recover Griffiths' isomorp…
We compute Hochschild cohomology of projective hypersurfaces starting from the Gerstenhaber-Schack complex of the (restricted) structure sheaf. We are particularly interested in the second cohomology group and its relation with deformations. We show that a projective hypersurface is smooth if and only if the classical HKR decomposition holds for this group. In general, the first Hodge component describing scheme deformations has an interesting inner structure corresponding to the various ways in which first order deformations can be realized: deforming local multiplications, deforming restrict…
We prove that small deformations of a projective variety of general type are also projective varieties of general type, with the same plurigenera. Version 2: small changes in first half. Improved version of the second half is now a separate preprint (Seshadri's criterion and openness of projectivity). Version 3: Footnote corrects citation on p.4.
When the quotient of a symplectic vector space by the action of a finite subgroup of symplectic automorphisms admits as a crepant projective resolution of singularities the Hilbert scheme of regular orbits of Nakamura, then there is a natural isomorphism between the Grothendieck group of this resolution and the representation ring of the group, given by the Bridgeland-King-Reid map. However, this isomorphism is not compatible with the ring structures. For the Hilbert scheme of points on the affine plane, we study the multiplicative behavior of this map.
