For which finite subgroups G of SL(r,C), r \geq 4, are there crepant desingularizations of the quotient space C^r/G? A complete answer to this question (also known as "Existence Problem" for such desingularizations) would classify all those groups for which the high-dimensional versions of McKay correspondence are valid. In the paper we consider this question in the case of abelian finite subgroups of SL(r,C) by using techniques from toric and discrete geometry. We give two necessary existence conditions, involving the Hilbert basis elements of the cone supporting the junior simplex, and an Upper Bound Theorem, respectively. Moreover, to the known series of Gorenstein abelian quotient singularities admitting projective, crepant resolutions (which are briefly recapitulated) we add a new series of non-c.i. cyclic quotient singularities having this property.
A necessary condition for the existence of torus-equivariant crepant resolutions of Gorenstein toric singularities can be derived by making use of a variant of the classical Upper Bound Theorem which is valid for simplicial balls.
In this paper, we show a condition for two-parameter Gorenstein cyclic quotient singularities to have a crepant resolution by using the remainder polynomial in any dimension.
We show a sufficient condition for Fujiki-Oka resolutions of Gorenstein abelian quotient singularities to be crepant in all dimensions by using Ashikaga's continuous fractions. Moreover, we prove that all three dimensional Gorenstein abelian quotient singularities possess a crepant resolution as a corollary. This alternative proof of existence needs only simple computations comparing with the results ever known.
An immediate generalization of the classical McKay correspondence for Gorenstein quotient spaces $\Bbb{C}^{r}/G$ in dimensions $r\geq 4$ would primarily demand the existence of projective, crepant, full desingularizations. Since this is not always possible, it is natural to ask about special classes of such quotient spaces which would satisfy the above property. In this paper we give explicit necessary and sufficient conditions under which 2-parameter series of Gorenstein cyclic quotient singularities have torus-equivariant resolutions of this specific sort in all dimensions.
We give a criterion for the existence of non-commutative crepant resolutions (NCCR's) for certain toric singularities. In particular we recover Broomhead's result that a 3-dimensional toric Gorenstein singularity has a NCCR. Our result also yields the existence of a NCCR for a 4-dimensional toric Gorenstein singularity which is known to have no toric NCCR.
In characteristic zero, if a quotient variety has a crepant resolution, the Euler characteristic of the crepant resolution is equal to the number of conjugacy classes of the acting group, by Batyrev's theorem. This is one of the McKay correspondence. It is natural to consider the analogue statement in the positive characteristic. In this paper, we present sequences of crepant resolutions of quotient varieties in the positive characteristic and show that one of the sequences gives a counterexample to the analogue statement of Batyrev's theorem.
In this paper we prove that the Gorenstein cyclic quotient singularities of type \frac 1l (1,..., 1,l-(r-1)) with $l\geq r\geq 2$, have a \textit{unique}torus-equivariant projective, crepant, partial resolution, which is ``full'' iff either $l\equiv 0$ mod $% (r-1) $ or $l\equiv 1$ mod $(r-1) $. As it turns out, if one of these two conditions is fulfilled, then the exceptional locus of the full desingularization consists of $\lfloor \frac{l}{r-1} \rfloor$ prime divisors, $\lfloor \frac{l}{r-1}\rfloor - 1$ of which are isomorphic to the total spaces of $\Bbb{P}_{\Bbb{C}}^1$-bundles over $\Bbb{P…
We study Cox rings of crepant resolutions of quotient singularities $\mathbb{C}^3/G$ where $G$ is a finite subgroup of $SL(3,\mathbb{C})$. We use them to obtain information on the geometric structure of these resolutions, number of different resolutions and relations between them. In particular, we treat explicitly several examples where $G$ contains elements of age 2.
Let $V$ be a complex vector space on which a finite group $G$ acts by linear transformations. Let $W = V \oplus V^*$ be the sum of $V$ with its dual $V^*$. We prove that if the quotient $W/G$ admits a smooth crepant resolution, then the subgroup $G \subset Aut V$ is generated by complex reflections. We also obtain some results on the structure of smooth crepant resolutions of the quotients $W/G$, where $W$ is a symplectic vector space, and $G \subset Aut W$ is a finite group of symplectic linear transformations of the vector space $W$.
A formula for calculating the Lefschetz number of an automorphism acting on a crepant resolution for a quotient of a Kahler manifold derived from an equivariant version of McKay correspondence. The latter is proven in some cases. As an application the Lefschetz numbers of of involutions acting on Calabi-Yau threefolds and their mirrors are compared.
For Gorenstein quotient spaces $C^d/G$, a direct generalization of the classical McKay correspondence in dimensions $d\geq 4$ would primarily demand the existence of projective, crepant desingularizations. Since this turned out to be not always possible, Reid asked about special classes of such quotient spaces which would satisfy the above property. We prove that the underlying spaces of all Gorenstein abelian quotient singularities, which are embeddable as complete intersections of hypersurfaces in an affine space, have torus-equivariant projective crepant resolutions in all dimensions. We us…
The purpose of this paper is to construct a crepant resolution of quotient singularities by finite subgroups of SL(3,C) of monomial type, and prove that the Euler number of the resolution is equal to the number of conjugacy classes. This result is a part of conjecture II in previous paper "Crepant resolution of trihedral singularities" (alg-geom 9404008). These singularities are different from trihedral, but main idea of the proof is based on the method of trihedral case.
Let $R$ be a Cohen--Macaulay normal domain with a canonical module $ω_R$. It is proved that if $R$ admits a noncommutative crepant resolution (NCCR), then necessarily it is $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein. Writing $S$ for a Zariski local canonical cover of $R$, then a tight relationship between the existence of noncommutative (crepant) resolutions on $R$ and $S$ is given. A weaker notion of Gorenstein modification is developed, and a similar tight relationship is given. There are three applications: non-Gorenstein quotient singularities by connected reductive groups cannot admit an NCCR, the centre of…
Using the theory of dimer models Broomhead proved that every 3-dimensional Gorenstein affine toric variety Spec R admits a toric non-commutative crepant resolution (NCCR). We give an alternative proof of this result by constructing a tilting bundle on a (stacky) crepant resolution of Spec R using standard toric methods. Our proof does not use dimer models.
In this paper, we study splitting (or toric) non-commutative crepant resolutions (= NCCRs) of some toric rings. In particular, we consider Hibi rings, which are toric rings arising from partially ordered sets, and show that Gorenstein Hibi rings with class group $\mathbb{Z}^2$ have a splitting NCCR. In the appendix, we also discuss Gorenstein toric rings with class group $\mathbb{Z}$, in which case the existence of splitting NCCRs is already known. We especially observe the mutations of modules giving splitting NCCRs for the three dimensional case, and show the connectedness of the exchange gr…
Let G be a finite subgroup of SL(n,C), then the quotient C^n/G has a Gorenstein canonical singularity. Bridgeland-King-Reid proved that the G-Hilbert scheme Hilb^G(C^3) gives a crepant resolution of the quotient C^3/G for any finite subgroup G of SL(3,C). However, in dimension 4, very few crepant resolutions are known. In this paper, we will show several examples of crepant resolutions in dimension 4 and show examples in which Hilb^G(C^4) is blow-up of certain crepant resolutions for C^4/G, or Hilb^G(C^4) has singularity.
The first goal of the present paper is to study the class groups of the edge rings of complete multipartite graphs, denoted by $\Bbbk[K_{r_1,\ldots,r_n}]$, where $1 \leq r_1 \leq \cdots \leq r_n$. More concretely, we prove that the class group of $\Bbbk[K_{r_1,\ldots,r_n}]$ is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}^n$ if $n =3$ with $r_1 \geq 2$ or $n \geq 4$, while it turns out that the excluded cases can be deduced into Hibi rings. The second goal is to investigate the special class of divisorial ideals of $\Bbbk[K_{r_1,\ldots,r_n}]$, called conic divisorial ideals. We describe conic divisorial ideals fo…
It is known that the underlying spaces of all abelian quotient singularities which are embeddable as complete intersections of hypersurfaces in an affine space can be overall resolved by means of projective torus-equivariant crepant birational morphisms in all dimensions. In the present paper we extend this result to the entire class of toric l.c.i.-singularities. Our proof makes use of Nakajima's classification theorem and of some special techniques from toric and discrete geometry.
Let $X$ be a codimension 1 subvariety of dimension $>1$ of a variety of minimal degree $Y$. If $X$ is subcanonical with Gorenstein canonical singularities admitting a crepant resolution, then $X$ is Arithmetically Gorenstein and we characterise such subvarieties $X$ of $Y$ via apolarity as those whose apolar hypersurfaces are Fermat.
We present an algorithm that finds all toric noncommutative crepant resolutions of a given toric 3-dimensional Gorenstein singularity. The algorithm embeds the quivers of these algebras inside a real 3-dimensional torus such that the relations are homotopy relations. One can project these embedded quivers down to a 2-dimensional torus to obtain the corresponding dimer models. We discuss some examples and use the algorithm to show that all toric noncommutative crepant resolutions of a finite quotient of the conifold singularity can be obtained by mutating one basic dimer model. We also discuss …
We define and calculate the weighted multiplicities of non Gorenstein terminal singularities on threefolds and some quotient singularities. We improve freeness conditions on threefolds.
We introduce the notion of a ``non-commutative crepant'' resolution of a singularity and show that it exists in certain cases. We also give some evidence for an extension of a conjecture by Bondal and Orlov, stating that different crepant resolutions of a Gorenstein singularity have the same derived category.
We show the existence of a full exceptional collection in the graded stable derived category of a Gorenstein isolated quotient singularity using a result of Orlov (arXiv:math/0503632). We also show that the equivariant graded stable derived category of a Gorenstein Veronese subring of a polynomial ring with respect to an action of a finite group has a full strong exceptional collection, even if the corresponding quotient singularity is neither isolated nor Gorenstein.

We prove the uniqueness of crepant resolutions for some quotient singularities and for some nilpotent orbits. The finiteness of non-isomorphic symplectic resolutions for 4-dimenensional symplectic singularities is proved. We also give an example of symplectic singularity which admits two non-equivalent symplectic resolutions.
In this paper we review the classification of isolated quotient singularities over the field of complex numbers due to H. Zassenhaus, G. Vincent, and G. A. Wolf. As an application we describe Gorenstein isolated quotient singularities over C, generalizing a result of K. Kurano and S. Nishi.
We prove that a crepant resolution of a Ricci-flat Kähler cone X admits a complete Ricci-flat Kähler metric asymptotic to the cone metric in every Kähler class in H^2_c(Y,R). This result contains as a subcase the existence of ALE Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on crepant resolutions of X=C^n /G, where G is a finite subgroup of SL(n,C). We consider the case in which X is toric. A result of A. Futaki, H. Ono, and G. Wang guarantees the existence of a Ricci-flat Kähler cone metric if X is Gorenstein. We use toric geometry to construct crepant resolutions.
Let $X$ be an algebraic variety with Gorenstein singularities. We define the notion of a wonderful resolution of singularities of $X$ by analogy with the theory of wonderful compactifications of semi-simple linear algebraic groups. We prove that if $X$ has rational singularities and has a wonderful resolution of singularities, then $X$ admits a categorical crepant resolution of singularities. As an immediate corollary, we get that all determinantal varieties defined by the minors of a generic square/symmetric/skew-symmetric matrix admit categorical crepant resolution of singularities. We also …
We give an expository account of a conjecture, developed by Coates--Corti--Iritani--Tseng and Ruan, which relates the quantum cohomology of a Gorenstein orbifold X to the quantum cohomology of a crepant resolution Y of X. We explore some consequences of this conjecture, showing that it implies versions of both the Cohomological Crepant Resolution Conjecture and of the Crepant Resolution Conjectures of Ruan and Bryan--Graber. We also give a "quantized" version of the conjecture, which determines higher-genus Gromov--Witten invariants of X from those of Y.
We prove an equivalence of triangulated categories between Orlov's triangulated category of singularities for a Gorenstein cyclic quotient singularity and the derived category of representations of a quiver with relations which is obtained from the McKay quiver by removing one vertex and half of the arrows.
Gorenstein isolated quotient singularities of odd prime dimension are cyclic. In the case where the dimension is bigger than 1 and is not an odd prime number, then there exist Gorenstein isolated non-cyclic quotient singularities.
In this note we prove that a conjectural formula for the class $λ_g \mathrm{DR}_g(a,-a)\in R^{2g}(\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,2})$ proposed recently by Buryak-Iglesias-Shadrin is true in the Gorenstein quotient of the ring $R^*(\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,2})$. As a corollary we prove the strong $\mathrm{DR} \backslash \mathrm{DZ}$ equivalence conjecture for one-point correlators.
We investigate the nearly Gorenstein property among $d$-dimensional cyclic quotient singularities $\Bbbk[[x_1,\dots,x_d]]^G$, where $\Bbbk$ is an algebraically closed field and $G\subseteq{\rm GL}(d,\Bbbk)$ is a finite small cyclic group whose order is invertible in $\Bbbk$. We prove a necessary and sufficient condition to be nearly Gorenstein that also allows us to find several new classes of such rings.
We study the orbifold Gromov-Witten theory of the quotient C^3/Z_3 in all genera. Our first result is a proof of the holomorphic anomaly equations in the precise form predicted by B-model physics. Our second result is an exact crepant resolution correspondence relating the Gromov-Witten theories of C^3/Z_3 and local CP2. The proof of the correspondence requires an identity proven in the Appendix by T. Coates and H. Iritani.
We consider the deformation spaces of some singular product-quotient surfaces $X=(C_1 \times C_2)/G$, where the curves $C_i$ have genus 3 and the group $G$ is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}_4$. As a by-product, we give a new construction of Todorov surfaces with $p_g=1$, $q=0$ and $2\le K^2\le 8$ by using $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein smoothings.
The notion of age of elements of complex linear groups was introduced by M. Reid and is of importance in algebraic geometry, in particular in the study of crepant resolutions and of quotients of Calabi-Yau varieties. In this paper, we solve a problem raised by J. Kollar and M. Larsen on the structure of finite irreducible linear groups generated by elements of age at most 1. More generally, we bound the dimension of finite irreducible linear groups generated by elements of bounded deviation. As a consequence of our main results, we derive some properties of symmetric spaces for the unitayr gro…
For a finite abelian subgroup $G\subset SL_n(\mathbb{C})$, we study whether a given crepant resolution $X$ of the quotient variety $\mathbb{C}^n/G$ is obtained as a moduli space of $G$-constellations. In particular we show that, if $X$ admits a natural $G$-constellation family in the sense of Logvinenko over it with all fibers being indecomposable as $\mathbb{C}[\mathbb{C}^n]$-modules, then $X$ is isomorphic to the normalization of a fine moduli space of $G$-constellations.
We generalize the result of Kawamata concerning the strong version of Fujita's freeness conjecture for smooth 3-folds to some singular cases, namely, Gorenstein terminal singularities and quotient singularities of type 1/r(1,1,1) and of type 1/r(1,1,-1). We generalize furthermore the result of that to projective threefolds with only canonical singularities for canonical and not terminal singularities. It turns out that the estimates in the first three cases are better than the one for the smooth case, which it is not in the fourth case. We also give explicit examples which show the estimate in…
We prove that all projective crepant resolutions of Nakajima quiver varieties satisfying natural conditions are also Nakajima quiver varieties. More generally, we classify the small birational models of many Geometric Invariant Theory (GIT) quotients by introducing a sufficient condition for the GIT quotient of an affine variety $V$ by the action of a reductive group $G$ to be a relative Mori Dream Space. Two surprising examples illustrate that our new condition is optimal. When the condition holds, we show that the linearisation map identifies a region of the GIT fan with the Mori chamber dec…
Let $X$ and $Y$ be two analytic canonical Gorenstein orbifolds. A resolution of singularities $Y\to X$ is called an Euler resolution if $Y$ and $X$ have the same orbifold Euler number. If $Y$ is only terminal rather than smooth, it is called an Euler terminalisation. It is proved that Euler terminalisations exist for toric varieties in any dimension, for 4-dimensional toroidal varieties, and for singularities $\C^4/G$ where $G$ belongs to certain classes of $\SL(4)$ subgroups. The method of proof is expected to be applicable to a sizeable number of finite $\SL(4)$ subgroups and to lead to a ge…
Let X be a Gorenstein orbifold and let Y be a crepant resolution of X. We state a conjecture relating the genus-zero Gromov--Witten invariants of X to those of Y, which differs in general from the Crepant Resolution Conjectures of Ruan and Bryan--Graber, and prove our conjecture when X = P(1,1,2) and X = P(1,1,1,3). As a consequence, we see that the original form of the Bryan--Graber Conjecture holds for P(1,1,2) but is probably false for P(1,1,1,3). Our methods are based on mirror symmetry for toric orbifolds.
In this paper we prove that a normal Gorenstein surface dominated by the projective plane P^2 is isomorphic to a quotient P^2/G, where G is a finite group of automorphisms of P^2 (except possibly for one surface V_8'). We can completely classify all such quotients. Some natural conjectures when the surface is not Gorenstein are also stated.
After fixing a non-degenerate bilinear form on a vector space V we define an involution of the manifold of flags F in V by taking a flag to its orthogonal complement. When V is of dimension 3 we check that the Crepant Resolution Conjecture of J. Bryan and T. Graber holds: the genus zero (orbifold) Gromov-Witten potential function of [F / Z_2] agrees (up to unstable terms) with the genus zero Gromov-Witten potential function of a crepant resolution Y of the quotient scheme F / Z_2, after setting a quantum parameter to -1, making a linear change of variables, and analytically continuing coeffici…
We introduce special classes of non-commutative crepant resolutions (= NCCR) which we call steady and splitting. We show that a singularity has a steady splitting NCCR if and only if it is a quotient singularity by a finite abelian group. We apply our results to toric singularities and dimer models.
