A construction of new sequences of generalized Bernoulli polynomials of first and second kind is proposed. These sequences share with the classical Bernoulli polynomials many algebraic and number--theoretical properties. A new class of Euler--type polynomials is also presented.
We prove characterizations of Appell polynomials by means of symmetric property. For these polynomials, we establish a simple linear expression in terms of Bernoulli and Euler polynomials. As applications, we give interesting examples. In addition, from our study, we obtain Fourier expansions of Appell polynomials. This result recovers Fourier expansions known for Bernoulli and Euler polynomials and obtains the Fourier expansions for higher order Bernoulli-Euler's one.
In this paper, we introduce the concept of the (higher order) Appell-Carlitz numbers which unifies the definitions of several special numbers in positive characteristic, such as the Bernoulli-Carlitz numbers and the Cauchy-Carlitz numbers.Their generating function is usually named Hurwitz series in the function field arithmetic. By using Hasse-Teichmüller derivatives, we also obtain several properties of the (higher order) Appell-Carlitz numbers, including a recurrence formula, two closed forms expressions, and a determinant expression. The recurrence formula implies Carlitz's recurrence formu…
In this note, by using the Hasse-Teichmüller derivatives, we obtain two explicit expressions for the related numbers of higher order Appell polynomials. One of them presents a determinant expression for the related numbers of higher order Appell polynomials, which involves several determinant expressions of special numbers, such as the higher order generalized hypergeometric Bernoulli and Cauchy numbers, thus recovers the classical determinant expressions of Bernoulli and Cauchy numbers stated in an article by Glaisher in 1875.
New convolution identities of hypergeometric Bernoulli polynomials are presented. Two different approaches to proving these identities are discussed, corresponding to the two equivalent definitions of hypergeometric Bernoulli polynomials as Appell sequences.
We show that any Appell sequence can be written in closed form as a forward difference transformation of the identity. Such transformations are actually multipliers in the abelian group of the Appell polynomials endowed with the operation of binomial convolution. As a consequence, we obtain explicit expressions for higher order convolution identities referring to various kinds of Appell polynomials in terms of the Stirling numbers. Applications of the preceding results to generalized Bernoulli and Apostol-Euler polynomials of real order are discussed in detail.
We obtain closed form expressions for convolutions of scale transformations within a certain subset of Appell polynomials. This subset contains the Bernoulli, Apostol-Euler, and Cauchy polynomials, as well as various kinds of their generalizations, among others. We give a unified approach mainly based on a probabilistic generalization of the Stirling numbers of the second kind. Different illustrative examples, including reformulations of convolution identities already known in the literature, are discussed in detail.
In this research, as the new results of our previously proposed definition for the new class of $2D$ $q$-Appell polynomials, we derive some interesting relations including the recurrence relation and partial $q$-difference equation of the aforementioned family of $q$-polynomials. Next, as some famous examples of this new defined class of $q$-polynomials, we obtain the corresponding relations to the $2D$ $q$-Bernoulli polynomials, $2D$ $q$-Euler polynomials as well as $2D$ $q$-Genocchi polynomials.
We consider the class $\mathcal{E}_t(Y)$ of Appell polynomials whose generating function is given by means of a real power $t$ of the moment generating function of a certain random variable $Y$. For such polynomials, we obtain explicit expressions depending on the moments of $Y$. It turns out that various kinds of generalizations of Bernoulli and Apostol-Euler polynomials belong to $\mathcal{E}_t(Y)$ and can be written and investigated in a unified way. In particular, explicit expression for such polynomials can be given in terms of suitable probabilistic generalizations of the Stirling number…
In this paper, we study some properties of umbral calculus related to Appell sequence. From those properties, we derive new and interesting identities of Frobenius-Euler polynomials.
In this paper, we study the degenerate version of the new type Euler polynomials, namely degenerate cosine-Euler polynomials and sime-Euler polynomials and also corresponding ones for Bernoulli polynomials, namely degenerate cosine Bernoulli polynomials and degenerate sine-Bernoulli polynomials by considering the degenerate Euler polynomials of complex variable and the degenerate Bernoulli polynomials of complex variable.
In this paper, we give some interesting identities of higher-order Bernoulli, Frobenius-Euler and Euler polynomials arising from umbral calculus. From our method of this paper, we can derive many interesting identities of special polynomials
In this paper we give some relation involving values of q-Bernoulli, q-Euler and Bernstein polynomials. From these relations, we obtain some interesting identities on the q-Bernoulli, q-Euler and Bernstein polynomials.
In this paper, we consider higher-order Frobenius-Euler polynomi- als associated with poly-Bernoulli polynomials which are derived from polylogarithmic function. These polynomials are called higher-order Frobenius-Euler and poly-Bernoulli mixed type polynomials. The purpose of this paper is to give various identities of those polynomials arising from umbral calculus.
Recently, $λ$-Bernoulli and $λ$-Euler numbers are studied in [5, 10]. The purpose of this paper is to present a systematic study of some families of the $q$-extensions of the $λ$-Bernoulli and the $λ$-Euler numbers by using the bosonic $p$-adic $q$-integral and the fermionic $p$-adic $q$-integral. The investigation of these $λ$-$q$-Bernoulli and $λ$-$q$-Euler numbers leads to interesting identities related to these objects. The results of the present paper cover earlier results concerning $q$-Bernoulli and $q$-Euler numbers. By using derivative operator to the generating functions of $λ$-$q$-B…
We evaluate the Hankel determinants of various sequences related to Bernoulli and Euler numbers and special values of the corresponding polynomials. Some of these results arise as special cases of Hankel determinants of certain sums and differences of Bernoulli and Euler polynomials, while others are consequences of a method that uses the derivatives of Bernoulli and Euler polynomials. We also obtain Hankel determinants for sequences of sums and differences of powers and for generalized Bernoulli polynomials belonging to certain Dirichlet characters with small conductors. Finally, we collect a…
We prove the simultaneous multiplication formulas for Apostol-Bernoulli polynomials and generalized Frobenius-Euler polynomials. These formulas contain Dedekind-Rademacher sums, Apostol-Dedekind sums and Fourier-Dedekind sums.
In this paper, applying the Faà di Bruno formula and some properties of Bell polynomials, several closed formulas and determinantal expressions involving Stirling numbers of the second kind for higher-order Bernoulli and Euler polynomials are presented.
Recently, Masjed-Jamei-Beyki-Koepf studied the so called new type Euler polynomials without making use of Euler polynomials of complex variable. Here we study degenerate and type 2 versions of these new type Euler polynomials, namely the type 2 degenerate cosine-Euler and type 2 degenerate sine-Euler polynomials and also the corresponding ones for Bernoulli polynomials, namely the type 2 degenerate cosine-Bernoulli and type 2 degenerate sine-Bernoulli polynomials by considering the degenerate Euler and degenerate Bernoulli polynomials of complex variable and by treating the real and imaginary …
In this paper we obtain several new identities for Bernoulli and Euler polynomials; some of them extend Miki's and Matiyasevich's identities. Our new method involves differences and derivatives of polynomials.
In this paper, we consstruct a new extended q-Bernoulli numbers and poly nomials. From these numbers, we derive the multiple zeta functions and give some relations between multiple Bernoulli numbers and multiple zeta functions.
Hankel determinants of sequences related to Bernoulli and Euler numbers have been studied before, and numerous identities are known. However, when a sequence is shifted by one unit, the situation often changes significantly. In this paper we use classical orthogonal polynomials and related methods to prove a general result concerning Hankel determinants for shifted sequences. We then apply this result to obtain new Hankel determinant evaluations for a total of $13$ sequences related to Bernoulli and Euler numbers, one of which concerns Euler polynomials.
In \cite{luo2006,luosri2005}, Luo and Srivastava introduced some generalizations of the Apostol -Bernoulli polynomials and the Apostol-Euler polynomials. The main object of this paper is to extend the result of \cite{prevost2010} to these generalized polynomials. More precisely, using the Padé approximation of the exponential function, we obtain recurrence relations for Apostol-Bernoulli, Euler and also Genocchi polynomials of higher order. As an application we prove lacunary relation for some particular cases.
Let $\{B_n\}$, $\{B_n(x)\}$ and $\{E_n(x)\}$ be the Bernoulli numbers, Bernoulli polynomials and Euler polynomials, respectively. In this paper we mainly establish formulas for $\sum_{6\mid k-3}\binom nkB_{n-k}(x)$, $\sum_{6\mid k}\binom nkE_{n-k}(x)$ and $\sum_{6\mid k-3}\binom nkm^kB_{n-k}$ in the cases $m=2,3,4$.
In this paper, we study umbral calculus to have alternative ways of obtaining our results. That is, we derive some interesting identities of the higher-order Bernoulli, Euler and Hermite polynomials arising from umbral calculus to have alternative ways.
A number of identities are proved by using Stirling transforms. These identities involve Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds, hyperharmonic and derangement numbers, Bernoulli and Euler numbers and polynomials, powers, power sums, and factorials.
In this article, we introduce combinatorial models for poly-Bernoulli polynomials and poly-Euler numbers of both kinds. As their applications, we provide combinatorial proofs of some identities involving poly-Bernoulli polynomials.
In this paper, we derive a formula on the integral of products of the higher-order Euler polynomials. By the same way, similar relations are obtained for $l$ higher-order Bernoulli polynomials and $r$ higher-order Euler polynomials. Moreover, we establish the connection between the results and the generalized Dedekind sums and Hardy--Berndt sums. Finally, the Laplace transform of Euler polynomials is given.
In the present paper, we deal mainly with arithmetic properties of Legendre polynomials by using their orthogonality property. We show that Legendre polynomials are proportional with Bernoulli, Euler, Hermite and Bernstein polynomials.
We consider the use of random walks as an approach to obtain connection coefficients for higher-order Bernoulli and Euler polynomials. In particular, we consider the cases of a $1$-dimensional linear reflected Brownian motion and of a $3$-dimensional Bessel process. Considering the successive hitting times of two, three, and four fixed levels by these random walks yields non-trivial identities that involve higher-order Bernoulli and Euler polynomials.
For finite sums of non-negative powers of arithmetic progressions the generating functions (ordinary and exponential ones) for given powers are computed. This leads to a two parameter generalization of Stirling and Eulerian numbers. A direct generalization of Bernoulli numbers and their polynomials follows. On the way to find the Faulhaber formula for these sums of powers in terms of generalized Bernoulli polynomials one is led to a one parameter generalization of Bernoulli numbers and their polynomials. Generalized Lah numbers are also considered.
We derive several symmetric identities for Bernoulli and Euler polynomials which imply some known identities. Our proofs depend on the new technique developed in part I and some identities obtained in [European J. Combin. 24(2003), 709--718].
In this paper we introduce the generalization of Multi Poly-Euler polynomials and we investigate some relationship involving Multi Poly-Euler polynomials. Obtaining a closed formula for generalization of Multi Poly-Euler numbers therefore seems to be a natural and important problem.
In this paper, we establish more identities of generalized multi poly-Euler polynomials with three parameters and obtain a kind of symmetrized generalization of the polynomials. Moreover, generalized multi poly-Bernoulli polynomials are defined using multiple polylogarithm and derive some properties parallel to those of poly-Bernoulli polynomials. These are generalized further using the concept of Hurwitz-Lerch multiple zeta values.
We introduce Bernoulli-Dunkl and Apostol-Euler-Dunkl polynomials as generalizations of Bernoulli and Apostol-Euler polynomials, where the role of the derivative is now played by the Dunkl operator on the real line. We use them to sum a bunch of series involving the zeros of Bessel functions.
We find general solutions to the generating-function equation sum c_q^{(X)} z^q = F(z)^X, where X is a complex number and F(z) is a convergent power series with |F(0)| >0. We then use these results to derive finite expressions containing only integers or simple fractions for partition functions and for Euler, Bernoulli, and Stirling numbers.
This is a short survey of a class of functions introduces by Tom Apostol. The survey is focused on their relation to Eulerian polynomials, derivative polynomials, and also on some integral representations.
The object of this paper is to introduce and study properties of unified Apostol-Bernoulli and Apostol-Euler polynomials noted by $\left\{\mathfrak{V_{n}}(x;λ;μ)\right\}_{n \geq 0}$. We study some arithmetic properties of $\left\{\mathfrak{V_{n}}(x;λ;μ)\right\}_{n \geq 0}$ as their connection to Apostol-Euler polynomials and Apostol-Bernoulli polynomials. Also, we give derivation and integration representations of $\left\{\mathfrak{V_{n}}(x;λ;μ)\right\}_{n \geq 0}$. Finally, we use the umbral calculus approach to deduce symmetric identities.
In this paper, we will deal with some new formulae for two product Genocchi polynomials together with both Euler polynomials and Bernoulli polynomials. We get some applications for Genocchi polynomials. Our applications possess a number of interesting properties to study in Theory of Analytic numbers which we express in the present paper.
Using general identities for difference operators, as well as a technique of symbolic computation and tools from probability theory, we derive very general kth order (k \ge 2) convolution identities for Bernoulli and Euler polynomials. This is achieved by use of an elementary result on uniformly distributed random variables. These identities depend on k positive real parameters, and as special cases we obtain numerous known and new identities for these polynomials. In particular we show that the well-known identities of Miki and Matiyasevich for Bernoulli numbers are special cases of the same …
We study a special Dirichlet series studied before by Apostol and Matsuoka and specify its values at negative integers. These values are related to a certain convolution of Bernoulli numbers
Following the ideas of L. Carlitz we introduce a generalization of the Bernoulli and Eulerian polynomials of higher order to vectorial index and argument. These polynomials are used for computation of the vector partition function $W({\bf s},{\bf D})$, i.e., a number of integer solutions to a linear system ${\bf x} \ge 0, {\bf D x} = {\bf s}$. It is shown that $W({\bf s},{\bf D})$ can be expressed through the vector Bernoulli polynomials of higher order.
We present a computer algebra approach to proving identities on Bernoulli polynomials and Euler polynomials by using the extended Zeilberger's algorithm given by Chen, Hou and Mu. The key idea is to use the contour integral definitions of the Bernoulli and Euler numbers to establish recurrence relations on the integrands. Such recurrence relations have certain parameter free properties which lead to the required identities without computing the integrals.
In this paper, by introducing the degenerate Fubini-type polynomials, we give several relations with the help of the Faà di Bruno formula and some properties of Bell polynomials, and generating function methods. Also, we derive some new explicit formulas and recurrence relations for Fubini-type polynomials and numbers. Associating the degenerate Fubini-type polynomials newly defined here with degenerate Apostol-Bernoulli polynomials and degenerate Apostol-Euler polynomials of order α enables us to present additional relations for some degenerate special polynomials and numbers.
We analyze the asymptotic behavior of the Apostol-Bernoulli polynomials $\mathcal{B}_{n}(x;λ)$ in detail. The starting point is their Fourier series on $[0,1]$ which, it is shown, remains valid as an asymptotic expansion over compact subsets of the complex plane. This is used to determine explicit estimates on the constants in the approximation, and also to analyze oscillatory phenomena which arise in certain cases. These results are transferred to the Apostol-Euler polynomials $\mathcal{E}_{n}(x;λ)$ via a simple relation linking them to the Apostol-Bernoulli polynomials.
We consider the $1$-dimensional reflected Brownian motion and $3$-dimensional Bessel process and the general models. By decomposing the hitting times of consecutive sites into loops, we obtain identities, called loop identities, for the generating functions of the hitting times. After proving this decomposition both combinatorially and inductively, we consider the case that sites are equally distributed. Then, from loop identities, we derive expressions of Bernoulli and Euler polynomials, in terms of Euler polynomials of higher-orders.
The central binomial series at negative integers are expressed as a linear combination of values of certain two polynomials. We show that one of the polynomials is a special value of the bivariate Eulerian polynomial and the other polynomial is related to the antidiagonal sum of poly-Bernoulli numbers. As an application, we prove Stephan's observation from 2004.
Using continued fraction expansions of certain polygamma functions as a main tool, we find orthogonal polynomials with respect to the odd-index Bernoulli polynomials $B_{2k+1}(x)$ and the Euler polynomials $E_{2k+ν}(x)$, for $ν=0, 1, 2$. In the process we also determine the corresponding Jacobi continued fractions (or J-fractions) and Hankel determinants. In all these cases the Hankel determinants are polynomials in $x$ which factor completely over the rationals.
Explicit expressions for restricted partition function $W(s,{\bf d}^m)$ and its quasiperiodic components $W_j(s,{\bf d}^m)$ (called {\em Sylvester waves}) for a set of positive integers ${\bf d}^m = \{d_1, d_2, ..., d_m\}$ are derived. The formulas are represented in a form of a finite sum over Bernoulli and Euler polynomials of higher order with periodic coefficients. A novel recursive relation for the Sylvester waves is established. Application to counting algebraically independent homogeneous polynomial invariants of the finite groups is discussed.
Let $p>3$ be a prime, and let $a$ be a rational p-adic integer with $a\not\equiv 0\pmod p$. In this paper we establish congruences for $$\sum_{k=1}^{(p-1)/2}\frac{\binom ak\binom{-1-a}k}k, \quad\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}k\binom ak\binom{-1-a}k \quad\text{and}\quad\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}\frac{\binom ak\binom{-1-a}k}{2k-1}\pmod {p^2}$$ in terms of Bernoulli and Euler polynomials. We also give some transformation formulas for congruences modulo $p^2$.
We provide a multidimensional weighted Euler--MacLaurin summation formula on polytopes and a multidimensional generalization of a result due to L. J. Mordell on the series expansion in Bernoulli polynomials. These results are consequences of a more general series expansion; namely, if $χ_{τ\mathcal{P}}$ denotes the characteristic function of a dilated integer convex polytope $\mathcal{P}$ and $q$ is a function with suitable regularity, we prove that the periodization of $qχ_{τ\mathcal{P}}$ admits an expansion in terms of multivariate Bernoulli polynomials. These multivariate polynomials are re…
We establish two general identities for Bernoulli and Euler polynomials, which are of a new type and have many consequences. The most striking result in this paper is as follows: If $n$ is a positive integer, $r+s+t=n$ and $x+y+z=1$, then we have $$rF(s,t;x,y)+sF(t,r;y,z)+tF(r,s;z,x)=0$$ where $$F(s,t;x,y):=\sum_{k=0}^n(-1)^k\binom{s}{k}\binom{t}{n-k}B_{n-k}(x)B_k(y).$$ This symmetric relation implies the curious identities of Miki and Matiyasevich as well as some new identities for Bernoulli polynomials such as $$\sum_{k=0}^n\binom{n}{k}^2B_k(x)B_{n-k}(x)=2\sum^n\Sb k=0 k\not=n-1\endSb\binom{…
