In this survey we report on some recent results related to various singular phenomena arising in the study of some classes of nonlinear elliptic equations. In this paper we study a singular Finsler double phase problem with a nonlinear boundary condition and perturbations that have a type of critical growth, even on the boundary. Based on variational methods in combination with truncation techniques we prove the existence of at least one weak solution for this problem under very general assumptions. These results are applied to several one-dimensional hyperbolic models, such as compressible Euler flows with a general pressure law, elasticity in an inhomogeneous medium, transverse MHD flow, and compressible flow in a variable area duct.
