We compute fundamental solutions of homogeneous elliptic differential operators, with constant coefficients, on $\mathbb{R}^n$ by mean of analytic continuation of distributions. The result obtained is valid in any dimension, for any degree and can be extended to pseudodifferential operators of the same type.
We compute temperate fundamental solutions of homogeneous differential operators with real-principal type symbols. Via analytic continuation of meromorphic distributions, fundamental solutions for these non-elliptic operators can be constructed in terms of radial averages and invariant distributions on the unit sphere.
In this paper we establish existence, nonexitence and regularity of positive solutions for a class of singular quasilinear elliptic systems subject to (super-) homogeneous condition. The approach is based on sub-supersolution methods for systems of quasilinear singular equations combined with perturbation arguments involving singular terms.
Existence of a generalized solution to a strongly singular convective elliptic equation in the whole space is established. The differential operator, patterned after the (p,q)-Laplacian, can be non-homogeneous. The result is obtained by solving some regularized problems through fixed point theory, variational methods and compactness results, besides exploiting nonlinear regularity theory and comparison principles.
In this paper, we establish existence, uniqueness, and scale-invariant estimates for fundamental solutions of non-homogeneous second order elliptic systems with bounded measurable coefficients in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and for the corresponding Green functions in arbitrary open sets. We impose certain non-homogeneous versions of de Giorgi-Nash-Moser bounds on the weak solutions and investigate in detail the assumptions on the lower order terms sufficient to guarantee such conditions.
We extend the result of D. Phillips (On one-homogeneous solutions to elliptic systems in two dimensions. C. R. Math. Acad. Sci. Paris 335 (2002), no. 1, 39-42) by showing that one-homogeneous solutions of certain elliptic systems in divergence form either do not exist or must be affine. The result is novel in two ways. Firstly, the system is allowed to depend (in a sufficiently smooth way) on the spatial variable x. Secondly, Phillips's original result is shown to apply to one-homogeneous solutions belonging to the Sobolev space H^{1}, from which his treatment of Lipschitz solutions follows as…
In this work, we present new results on solvability of the equation $A^{*}(D)f=μ$ for $f \in L^{p}$ and positive measure data $μ$ associated to an elliptic homogeneous linear differential operator $A(D)$ of order m. Our method is based on $(m,p)-$energy control of $μ$ giving a natural characterization for solutions when $1\leq p < \infty$. We also obtain sufficient conditions in the limiting case $p=\infty$ using {new $L^{1}$ estimates on measures for elliptic and canceling operators.
We study the fully nonlinear elliptic equation $F(D^2u,Du,u,x) = f$ in a smooth bounded domain $Ω$, under the assumption the nonlinearity $F$ is uniformly elliptic and positively homogeneous. Recently, it has been shown that such operators have two principal "half" eigenvalues, and that the corresponding Dirichlet problem possesses solutions, if both of the principal eigenvalues are positive. In this paper, we prove the existence of solutions of the Dirichlet problem if both principal eigenvalues are negative, provided the "second" eigenvalue is positive, and generalize the anti-maximum princi…
We investigate the existence of ground states for functionals with nonhomogenous principal part. Roughly speaking, we show that the Nehari manifold method requires no homogeinity on the principal part of a functional. This result is motivated by some elliptic problems involving nonhomogeneous operators. As an application, we prove the existence of a ground state and infinitely many solutions for three classes of boundary value problems.
This paper is devoted to the study of a class of singular perturbation elliptic type problems on compact Lie groups or homogeneous spaces $\mathcal{M}$. By constructing a suitable Nash-Moser-type iteration scheme on compact Lie groups and homogeneous spaces, we overcome the clusters of "small divisor" problem, then the existence of solutions for nonlinear elliptic equations with a singular perturbation is established. Especially, if $\mathcal{M}$ is the standard torus $\textbf{T}^n$ or the spheres $\textbf{S}^n$, our result shows that there is a local uniqueness of spatially periodic solutions…
In this note we derive large-scale regularity properties of solutions to second-order linear elliptic equations with random coefficients on the half- space with homogeneous Neumann boundary data; it is a companion to arXiv:1604.02717 in which the situation for homogeneous Dirichlet boundary data was addressed. Similarly to arXiv:1604.02717, the results in this contribution are expressed in terms of a first-order Liouville principle. It follows from an excess-decay that is shown through means of a stochastic homogenization-inspired Campanato iteration. The core of this contribution is the const…
We investigate Lawruk elliptic boundary-value problems for homogeneous differential equations in a two-sided refined Sobolev scale. These problems contain additional unknown functions in the boundary conditions of arbitrary orders. The scale consists of inner-product Hörmander spaces whose orders of regularity are given by any real number and a function which varies slowly at infinity in the sense of Karamata. We establish theorems on the Fredholm property of the problems in the refined Sobolev scale and on local regularity and local a priori estimate (up to the boundary of the domain) of thei…
We prove that the principal eigenvalue of any fully nonlinear homogeneous elliptic operator which fulfills a very simple convexity assumption satisfies a Brunn-Minkowski type inequality on the class of open bounded sets in $\mathbb{R}^n$ satisfying a uniform exterior sphere condition. In particular the result applies to the (possibly normalized) $p$-Laplacian, and to the minimal Pucci operator. The proof is inspired by the approach introduced by Colesanti for the principal frequency of the Laplacian within the class of convex domains, and relies on a generalization of the convex envelope metho…
In this paper we are concerned with the number of nonnegative solutions of the elliptic system $$ {array}{ll} -Δu = Q_u(u,v) + 1/2{2^*} H_u(u,v),& {in} Ω,\vdois\ -Δv = Q_v(u,v) + 1/{2^*} H_v(u,v),& {in} Ω,\vdois\ u=v=0,& {on} \partialΩ. \leqno{(P)} $$ where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ is a bounded smooth domain, $N \geq 3$, $2^*:=2N/(N-2)$ and $Q_u, H_u$ and $Q_v$, $H_v$ are the partial derivatives of the homogeneous functions $Q,\,H \in C^1(\mathbb{R}^2_+,\mathbb{R})$, where $ \mathbb{R}^2_+ := [0,\infty) \times [0,\infty)$. In the proofs we apply variational methods and Ljusternik-Schnirelmann t…
This is the second part of a series of four articles on weighted norm inequalities, off-diagonal estimates and elliptic operators. We consider a substitute to the notion of pointwise bounds for kernels of operators which usually is a measure of decay. This substitute is that of off-diagonal estimates expressed in terms of local and scale invariant $L^p-L^q$ estimates. We propose a definition in spaces of homogeneous type that is stable under composition. It is particularly well suited to semigroups. We study the case of semigroups generated by elliptic operators.
We give examples of systems of Partial Differential Equations that admit non-trivial, Lipschitz and one-homogeneous solutions in the form $u(R,θ) = Rg(θ)$, where $(R,θ)$ are plane polar coordinates and $g: \mathbb{R}^{2} \to \mathbb{R}^{m}$, $m \geq 2$. The systems are singular in the sense that they arise as the Euler-Lagrange equations of the functionals $I(u) = \int_{B}W(x,\nabla u(x))\,dx$, where $D_{F}W(x,F)$ behaves like $\frac{1}{|x|}$ as $|x| \to 0$ and $W$ satisfies an ellipticity condition. Such solutions cannot exist when $|x|D_{F}W(x,F) \to 0$ as $|x| \to 0$, so the condition is op…
Let $A$ be a homogeneous elliptic differential operator of order $m$ on $% \Bbb{R}^{N}$ with constant complex coefficients. A partial version of the main result is as follows: Suppose that $u\in L_{loc}^{1}$ and that $Au\in L^{p}$ for some $1<p<\infty .$ Then, all the partial derivatives of order $m$ of $u$ are in $L^{p}$ if and only if $|u|$ grows slower than $|x|^{m}$ at infinity, provided that growth is measured in an $L^{1}$-averaged sense over balls with increasing radii. The necessity provides an alternative answer to the pointwise growth question investigated with mixed success in the l…
We study the contraction semigroups of elliptic quadratic differential operators. Elliptic quadratic differential operators are the non-selfadjoint operators defined in the Weyl quantization by complex-valued elliptic quadratic symbols. We establish in this paper that under the assumption of ellipticity, as soon as the real part of their Weyl symbols is a non-zero non-positive quadratic form, the norm of contraction semigroups generated by these operators decays exponentially in time.
Uniqueness of the strong positive solution for a general quasilinear elliptic problem with variable exponents and homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions using a generalization of the $p(x)$-Díaz-Saa inequality
This paper is concerned with semiconcavity of viscosity solutions for a class of degenerate elliptic integro-differential equations in $\mathbb R^n$. This class of equations includes Bellman equations containing operators of Lévy-Itô type. Hölder and Lipschitz continuity of viscosity solutions for a more general class of degenerate elliptic integro-differential equations are also provided.
In this note we consider boundary point principles for partial differential inequalities of elliptic type. Firstly, we highlight the difference between conditions required to establish classical strong maximum principles and classical boundary point lemmas for second order linear elliptic partial differential inequalities. We highlight this difference by introducing a singular set in the domain where the coefficients of the partial differential inequality need not be defined, and in a neighborhood of which, can blow-up. Secondly, as a consequence, we establish a comparison-type boundary point …
We prove the unique solvability of second order elliptic equations in non-divergence form in Sobolev spaces. The coefficients of the second order terms are measurable in one variable and VMO in other variables. From this result, we obtain the weak uniqueness of the martingale problem associated with the elliptic equations.
In this paper we develop a Fefferman-Stein theorem, a Hardy-Littlewood theorem and sharp function estimations in weighted Sobolev spaces. We also provide uniqueness and existence results for second-order elliptic and parabolic partial differential systems in weighed Sobolev spaces.
We study resolvent approximations for elliptic differential nonselfadjoint operators with periodic coefficients in the limit of the small period. The class of operators covered by our analysis includes uniformly elliptic families with bounded coefficients and also with unbounded coefficients from the John-Nirenberg space $BMO$ (bounded mean oscillation). We apply the modified method of the first approximation with the usage of Steklov's smoothing.
This paper deals with the existence of solutions for an elliptic system of partial differential equations. The solution method is based on the sub- and super-solutions approach. An application to a stochastic control problem is presented. This system seemed not considered before.
In this paper, we establish a global $C^2$ estimates to the Neumann problem for a class of fullly nonlinear elliptic equations. By the method of continuity, we establish the existence theorem of $k$-admissible solutions of the Neumann problems.
We study existence of principal eigenvalues of fully nonlinear integro-differential elliptic equations with a drift term via the Krein-Rutman theorem which based on regularity up to boundary of viscosity solutions. We also show the simplicity of the eigenfunctions in viscosity sense by a nonlocal version of ABP estimate.
Sharp resolvent bounds for non-selfadjoint semiclassical elliptic quadratic differential operators are established, in the interior of the range of the associated quadratic symbol.
We give a lower bound for the Gaussian curvature of convex level sets of minimal graphs and the solutions to semilinear elliptic equations with the norm of boundary gradient and the Gaussian curvature of the boundary.
In this paper, we study the $M$-ellipticity of Fredholm pseudo-differential operators associated with weighted symbols on $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$, $1 < p < \infty$. We also prove the Gårding's inequality for $M$-elliptic operators and the hybrid class of pseudo-differential operators, namely SG$M$-elliptic operators.
We prove results on solvability of nonlinear elliptic partial differential systems of principle type of second order. They are consequences of existence of non-radial solutions for nonlinear partial differential systems of Poisson type. As applications to geometry, we prove the exsitence of local harmonic maps with given tangent plane at a point between any Riemannan manifolds. More generally geometric objects defined by Beltrami-Laplace always exist locally.
We prove a version of differential Harnack inequality for a family of sub-elliptic diffusions on Sasakian manifolds under certain curvature conditions.
Given a linear elliptic equation $\sum a_{ij} u_{ij} =0$ in $\mathbb{R}^3$, it is a classical problem to determine if its degree-one homogeneous solutions $u$ are linear. The answer is negative in general, by a construction of Martinez-Maure. In contrast, the answer is affirmative in the uniformly elliptic case, by a theorem of Han, Nadirashvili and Yuan, and it is a known open problem to determine the degenerate ellipticity condition on $(a_{ij})$ under which this theorem still holds. In this paper we solve this problem. We prove the linearity of $u$ under the following degenerate ellipticity…
We construct of a family of fundamental solutions for elliptic partial differential operators with real constant coefficients. The elements of such a family are expressed by means of jointly real analytic functions of the coefficients of the operators and of the spatial variable. We show regularity properties in the frame of Schauder spaces for the corresponding single layer potentials.
Motivated by recent interest on Kirchhoff-type equations, in this short note we utilize a classical, yet very powerful, tool of nonlinear functional analysis in order to investigate the existence of positive eigenvalues of systems of elliptic functional differential equations. An example is presented to illustrate the theory.
We consider a strongly nonlinear elliptic problem with the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition. The growth and the coercivity of the elliptic operator is assumed to be indicated by an inhomogeneous anisotropic $\mathcal{N}$-function. First, an existence result is shown under the assumption that the $\mathcal{N}$-function or its convex conjugate satisfies $Δ_2$-condition. The second result concerns the homogenization process for families of strongly nonlinear elliptic problems with the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition under above stated conditions on the elliptic operator, which is…
In this paper we prove Fefferman's inequalities associated to potentials belonging to a generalized Morrey space $ L^{p,φ} $ or a Stummel class $ \tilde{S}_{α,p} $. Our results generalize and extend Fefferman's inequalities obtained in \cite{CRR,CF,F,Z1}. We also show that the logarithmic of non-negative weak solution of second order elliptic partial differential equation, where its potentials are assumed in generalized Morrey spaces and Stummel classes, belongs to the bounded mean oscillation class. As a consequence, this elliptic partial differential equation has the strong unique continuati…
In this paper second-order elliptic and parabolic partial differential systems are considered on $C^1$ domains. Existence and uniqueness results are obtained in terms of Sobolev spaces with weights so that we allow the derivatives of the solutions to blow up near the boundary. The coefficients of the systems are allowed to substantially oscillate or blow up near the boundary.
Using a standard linearization technique and previously obtained microlocal properties for pseudodifferential operators with smooth coefficients, the authors state results of microlocal regularity in generalized Besov spaces for solutions to non linear PDE.
We consider a system of quasilinear elliptic equations, with indefinite super-linear nonlinearity, depending on two real parameters $λ,μ$. By using the Nehari manifold and the notion of extremal parameter, we extend some results concerning existence of positive solutions.
In this paper, we establish Liouville theorems for the following system of elliptic differential inequalities $$ Δ_{\mathbb H}u^{m_1}+|η|_{\mathbb H}^{γ_1}|v|^p\leq0,$$ $$ Δ_{\mathbb H}v^{m_2}+|η|_{\mathbb H}^{γ_2}|u|^q\leq0,$$ on different unbounded open domains of Heisenberg group $\mathbb H$, including the whole space, and half space of $\mathbb H$. Here $p>m_2>0$, $q>m_1>0$.
It is establish regularity results for weak solutions of quasilinear elliptic problems driven by the well known $Φ$-Laplacian operator given by \begin{equation*} \left\{\ \begin{array}{cl} \displaystyle-Δ_Φu= g(x,u), & \mbox{in}~Ω, u=0, & \mbox{on}~\partial Ω, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $Δ_Φu :=\mbox{div}(ϕ(|\nabla u|)\nabla u)$ and $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}, N \geq 2,$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary $\partialΩ$. Our work concerns on nonlinearities $g$ which can be homogeneous or non-homogeneous. For the homogeneous case we consider an existence result together with a re…
This paper is concerned with Hölder regularity of viscosity solutions of second-order, fully non-linear elliptic integro-differential equations. Our results rely on two key ingredients: first we assume that, at each point of the domain, either the equation is strictly elliptic in the classical fully non-linear sense, or (and this is the most original part of our work) the equation is strictly elliptic in a non-local non-linear sense we make precise. Next we impose some regularity and growth conditions on the equation. These results are concerned with a large class of integro-differential opera…
We prove the existence of two fundamental solutions $Φ$ and $\tilde Φ$ of the PDE \[ F(D^2Φ) = 0 \quad {in} \mathbb{R}^n \setminus \{0 \} \] for any positively homogeneous, uniformly elliptic operator $F$. Corresponding to $F$ are two unique scaling exponents $α^*, \tildeα^* > -1$ which describe the homogeneity of $Φ$ and $\tilde Φ$. We give a sharp characterization of the isolated singularities and the behavior at infinity of a solution of the equation $F(D^2u) = 0$, which is bounded on one side. A Liouville-type result demonstrates that the two fundamental solutions are the unique nontrivial…
