推广了D. Phillips(On one-homogeneous solutions to elliptical systems in two dimensions. C. R.数学学院Sci. We extend the result of D. Phillips (On one-homogeneous solutions to elliptic systems in two dimensions. C. R. Math. Acad. Sci. Paris 335 (2002), no. 1, 39-42) by showing that one-homogeneous solutions of certain elliptic systems in divergence form either do not exist or must be affine. The result is novel in two ways. Firstly, the system is allowed to depend (in a sufficiently smooth way) on the spatial variable x. Secondly, Phillips's original result is shown to apply to one-homogeneous solutions belonging to the Sobolev space H^{1}, from which his treatment of Lipschitz solutions follows as a special case. A singular one-homogeneous solution to an elliptic system violating the hypotheses of the main theorem is constructed using a variational method which has links to nonlinear elasticity.
In this paper we establish existence, nonexitence and regularity of positive solutions for a class of singular quasilinear elliptic systems subject to (super-) homogeneous condition. The approach is based on sub-supersolution methods for systems of quasilinear singular equations combined with perturbation arguments involving singular terms.
Existence of a generalized solution to a strongly singular convective elliptic equation in the whole space is established. The differential operator, patterned after the (p,q)-Laplacian, can be non-homogeneous. The result is obtained by solving some regularized problems through fixed point theory, variational methods and compactness results, besides exploiting nonlinear regularity theory and comparison principles.
In this paper, we establish existence, uniqueness, and scale-invariant estimates for fundamental solutions of non-homogeneous second order elliptic systems with bounded measurable coefficients in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and for the corresponding Green functions in arbitrary open sets. We impose certain non-homogeneous versions of de Giorgi-Nash-Moser bounds on the weak solutions and investigate in detail the assumptions on the lower order terms sufficient to guarantee such conditions.
In this work, we present new results on solvability of the equation $A^{*}(D)f=μ$ for $f \in L^{p}$ and positive measure data $μ$ associated to an elliptic homogeneous linear differential operator $A(D)$ of order m. Our method is based on $(m,p)-$energy control of $μ$ giving a natural characterization for solutions when $1\leq p < \infty$. We also obtain sufficient conditions in the limiting case $p=\infty$ using {new $L^{1}$ estimates on measures for elliptic and canceling operators.
We investigate the existence of ground states for functionals with nonhomogenous principal part. Roughly speaking, we show that the Nehari manifold method requires no homogeinity on the principal part of a functional. This result is motivated by some elliptic problems involving nonhomogeneous operators. As an application, we prove the existence of a ground state and infinitely many solutions for three classes of boundary value problems.
In this note we derive large-scale regularity properties of solutions to second-order linear elliptic equations with random coefficients on the half- space with homogeneous Neumann boundary data; it is a companion to arXiv:1604.02717 in which the situation for homogeneous Dirichlet boundary data was addressed. Similarly to arXiv:1604.02717, the results in this contribution are expressed in terms of a first-order Liouville principle. It follows from an excess-decay that is shown through means of a stochastic homogenization-inspired Campanato iteration. The core of this contribution is the const…
We investigate Lawruk elliptic boundary-value problems for homogeneous differential equations in a two-sided refined Sobolev scale. These problems contain additional unknown functions in the boundary conditions of arbitrary orders. The scale consists of inner-product Hörmander spaces whose orders of regularity are given by any real number and a function which varies slowly at infinity in the sense of Karamata. We establish theorems on the Fredholm property of the problems in the refined Sobolev scale and on local regularity and local a priori estimate (up to the boundary of the domain) of thei…
We prove that the principal eigenvalue of any fully nonlinear homogeneous elliptic operator which fulfills a very simple convexity assumption satisfies a Brunn-Minkowski type inequality on the class of open bounded sets in $\mathbb{R}^n$ satisfying a uniform exterior sphere condition. In particular the result applies to the (possibly normalized) $p$-Laplacian, and to the minimal Pucci operator. The proof is inspired by the approach introduced by Colesanti for the principal frequency of the Laplacian within the class of convex domains, and relies on a generalization of the convex envelope metho…
In this paper we are concerned with the number of nonnegative solutions of the elliptic system $$ {array}{ll} -Δu = Q_u(u,v) + 1/2{2^*} H_u(u,v),& {in} Ω,\vdois\ -Δv = Q_v(u,v) + 1/{2^*} H_v(u,v),& {in} Ω,\vdois\ u=v=0,& {on} \partialΩ. \leqno{(P)} $$ where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ is a bounded smooth domain, $N \geq 3$, $2^*:=2N/(N-2)$ and $Q_u, H_u$ and $Q_v$, $H_v$ are the partial derivatives of the homogeneous functions $Q,\,H \in C^1(\mathbb{R}^2_+,\mathbb{R})$, where $ \mathbb{R}^2_+ := [0,\infty) \times [0,\infty)$. In the proofs we apply variational methods and Ljusternik-Schnirelmann t…
We give examples of systems of Partial Differential Equations that admit non-trivial, Lipschitz and one-homogeneous solutions in the form $u(R,θ) = Rg(θ)$, where $(R,θ)$ are plane polar coordinates and $g: \mathbb{R}^{2} \to \mathbb{R}^{m}$, $m \geq 2$. The systems are singular in the sense that they arise as the Euler-Lagrange equations of the functionals $I(u) = \int_{B}W(x,\nabla u(x))\,dx$, where $D_{F}W(x,F)$ behaves like $\frac{1}{|x|}$ as $|x| \to 0$ and $W$ satisfies an ellipticity condition. Such solutions cannot exist when $|x|D_{F}W(x,F) \to 0$ as $|x| \to 0$, so the condition is op…
Let $A$ be a homogeneous elliptic differential operator of order $m$ on $% \Bbb{R}^{N}$ with constant complex coefficients. A partial version of the main result is as follows: Suppose that $u\in L_{loc}^{1}$ and that $Au\in L^{p}$ for some $1<p<\infty .$ Then, all the partial derivatives of order $m$ of $u$ are in $L^{p}$ if and only if $|u|$ grows slower than $|x|^{m}$ at infinity, provided that growth is measured in an $L^{1}$-averaged sense over balls with increasing radii. The necessity provides an alternative answer to the pointwise growth question investigated with mixed success in the l…
Uniqueness of the strong positive solution for a general quasilinear elliptic problem with variable exponents and homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions using a generalization of the $p(x)$-Díaz-Saa inequality
This paper is devoted to the study of a class of singular perturbation elliptic type problems on compact Lie groups or homogeneous spaces $\mathcal{M}$. By constructing a suitable Nash-Moser-type iteration scheme on compact Lie groups and homogeneous spaces, we overcome the clusters of "small divisor" problem, then the existence of solutions for nonlinear elliptic equations with a singular perturbation is established. Especially, if $\mathcal{M}$ is the standard torus $\textbf{T}^n$ or the spheres $\textbf{S}^n$, our result shows that there is a local uniqueness of spatially periodic solutions…
In this paper, we prove existence and regularity of positive solutions for singular quasilinear elliptic systems involving gradient terms. Our approach is based on comparison properties, a priori estimates and Schauder's fixed point theorem.
We consider a strongly nonlinear elliptic problem with the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition. The growth and the coercivity of the elliptic operator is assumed to be indicated by an inhomogeneous anisotropic $\mathcal{N}$-function. First, an existence result is shown under the assumption that the $\mathcal{N}$-function or its convex conjugate satisfies $Δ_2$-condition. The second result concerns the homogenization process for families of strongly nonlinear elliptic problems with the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition under above stated conditions on the elliptic operator, which is…
It is establish regularity results for weak solutions of quasilinear elliptic problems driven by the well known $Φ$-Laplacian operator given by \begin{equation*} \left\{\ \begin{array}{cl} \displaystyle-Δ_Φu= g(x,u), & \mbox{in}~Ω, u=0, & \mbox{on}~\partial Ω, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $Δ_Φu :=\mbox{div}(ϕ(|\nabla u|)\nabla u)$ and $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}, N \geq 2,$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary $\partialΩ$. Our work concerns on nonlinearities $g$ which can be homogeneous or non-homogeneous. For the homogeneous case we consider an existence result together with a re…
In this article we present a new technique to obtain a lower bound for the principal Dirichlet eigenvalue of a fully nonlinear elliptic operator. We ilustrate the construction of an appropriate radial function required to obtain the bound in several examples. In particular we use our results to prove that $\lim_{p\to \infty}λ_{1,p}=λ_{1,\infty}=\left(\fracπ{2R}\right)^2$ where $λ_{1,p}$ and $λ_{1,\infty}$ are the principal eigenvalue for the homogeneous $p$-laplacian and the homogeneous infinity laplacian respectively.
We obtained estimates for first eigenvalues of the Dirichlet boundary value problem for elliptic operators in divergence form (i.e. for the principal frequency of non-homogeneous membranes) in bounded domains $Ω\subset \mathbb C$ satisfying quasihyperbolic boundary conditions. The suggested method is based on the quasiconformal composition operators on Sobolev spaces and their applications to constant estimates in the corresponding Sobolev-Poincaré inequalities. We also prove a variant of the Rayleigh-Faber-Khran inequality for a special case of these elliptic operators.
We discuss, by topological methods, the solvability of systems of second-order elliptic differential equations subject to functional boundary conditions under the presence of gradient terms in the nonlinearities. We prove the existence of non-negative solutions and provide a non-existence result. We present some examples to illustrate the applicability of the existence and non-existence results.
We prove the existence of ground state solutions for a class of nonlinear elliptic equations, arising in the production of standing wave solutions to an associated family of nonlinear Schrödinger equations. We examine two constrained minimization problems, which give rise to such solutions. One yields what we call $F_λ$-minimizers, the other energy minimizers. We produce such ground state solutions on a class of Riemannian manifolds called weakly homogeneous spaces, and establish smoothness, positivity, and decay properties. We also identify classes of Riemannian manifolds with no such minimiz…
We consider a nonlinear Neumann elliptic inclusion with a source (reaction term) consisting of a convex subdifferential plus a multivalued term depending on the gradient. The convex subdifferential incorporates in our framework problems with unilateral constraints (variational inequalities). Using topological methods and the Moreau-Yosida approximations of the subdifferential term, we establish the existence of a smooth solution.
We investigate the homogeneous Dirichlet problem in uniformly convex domains for a large class of degenerate elliptic equations with singular zero order term. In particular we establish sharp existence and uniqueness results of positive viscosity solutions.
We study solutions and supersolutions of homogeneous and nonhomogeneous $\mathcal{A}$-harmonic equations with nonstandard growth in $\mathbb{R}^n$. Various Liouville-type theorems and nonexistence results are proved. The discussion is illustrated by a number of examples.
Given a linear elliptic equation $\sum a_{ij} u_{ij} =0$ in $\mathbb{R}^3$, it is a classical problem to determine if its degree-one homogeneous solutions $u$ are linear. The answer is negative in general, by a construction of Martinez-Maure. In contrast, the answer is affirmative in the uniformly elliptic case, by a theorem of Han, Nadirashvili and Yuan, and it is a known open problem to determine the degenerate ellipticity condition on $(a_{ij})$ under which this theorem still holds. In this paper we solve this problem. We prove the linearity of $u$ under the following degenerate ellipticity…
We establish sharp geometric Holder regularity estimates for Gradient for bounded solutions of a class of fully nonlinear elliptic equations with non-homogeneous degeneracy. Such regularity estimates simplify and generalize, to some extent, earlier ones via a totally different modus operandi. Our approach is based on geometric tangential methods and makes use of a refined oscillation mechanism combined with compactness and scaling techniques. In the end, we present some connections of our findings with a variety of nonlinear geometric free boundary problems and relevant nonlinear problems in t…
We prove the existence of two fundamental solutions $Φ$ and $\tilde Φ$ of the PDE \[ F(D^2Φ) = 0 \quad {in} \mathbb{R}^n \setminus \{0 \} \] for any positively homogeneous, uniformly elliptic operator $F$. Corresponding to $F$ are two unique scaling exponents $α^*, \tildeα^* > -1$ which describe the homogeneity of $Φ$ and $\tilde Φ$. We give a sharp characterization of the isolated singularities and the behavior at infinity of a solution of the equation $F(D^2u) = 0$, which is bounded on one side. A Liouville-type result demonstrates that the two fundamental solutions are the unique nontrivial…
We prove that flat or Lipschitz free boundaries of two-phase free boundary problems governed by fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic operators and with non-zero right hand side are $C^{1,γ}$.
In this paper we study classification of homogeneous solutions to the stationary Euler equation with locally finite energy. Written in the form $u = \nabla^\perp Ψ$, $Ψ(r,θ) = r^λ ψ(θ)$, for $λ>0$, we show that only trivial solutions exist in the range $0<λ<1/2$, i.e. parallel shear and rotational flows. In other cases many new solutions are exhibited that have hyperbolic, parabolic and elliptic structure of streamlines. In particular, for $λ>9/2$ the number of different non-trivial elliptic solutions is equal to the cardinality of the set $(2,\sqrt{2λ}) \cap \mathbb{N}$. The case $λ= 2/3$ is …

We are concerned with the well-posedness of linear elliptic systems posed on $\mathbb{R}^d$. The concrete problem of interest, for which we require this theory, arises from the linearization of the equations of anisotropic finite elasticity, however, our results are more generally applicable to translation-invariant problem posed on $\mathbb{R}^d$. We describe a variant of homogeneous Sobolev spaces, which are convenient for treating problems of this kind.
We analyze the inverse problem of identifying the diffusivity coefficient of a scalar elliptic equation as a function of the resolvent operator. We prove that, within the class of measurable coefficients, bounded above and below by positive constants, the resolvent determines the diffusivity in an unique manner. Furthermore we prove that the inverse mapping from resolvent to the coefficient is Lipschitz in suitable topologies. This result plays a key role when applying greedy algorithms to the approximation of parameter-dependent elliptic problems in an uniform and robust manner, independent o…
For a class of one-dimensional linear elliptic fourth-order equations with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions it is shown that a non-positive and non-vanishing right-hand side gives rise to a negative solution. A similar result is obtained for the same class of equations for radially symmetric solutions in a ball or in an annulus. Several applications are given, including applications to nonlinear equations and eigenvalue problems.
Let $L$ be a homogeneous divergence form higher order elliptic operator with complex bounded measurable coefficients on $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $X$ a ball quasi-Banach function space on $\mathbb{R}^n$ satisfying some mild assumptions. Denote by $H_{X,\, L}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ the Hardy space, associated with both $L$ and $X$, which is defined via the Lusin area function related to the semigroup generated by $L$. In this article, the authors establish both the maximal function and the Riesz transform characterizations of $H_{X,\, L}(\mathbb{R}^n)$. The results obtained in this article have a wide range o…
We provide new results on the existence, non-existence and multiplicity of non-negative radial solutions for semilinear elliptic systems with Neumann boundary conditions on an annulus. Our approach is topological and relies on the classical fixed point index. We present an example to illustrate our theory.
In this article, we study the impact of a change in the type of boundary conditions of an elliptic boundary value problem. In the context of the conductivity equation we consider a reference problem with mixed homogeneous Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. Two different perturbed versions of this ``background'' situation are investigated, when (i) The homogeneous Neumann boundary condition is replaced by a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition on a ``small'' subset $ω_\varepsilon$ of the Neumann boundary; and when (ii) The homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition is replaced by a ho…
Let $M$ be a simply connected homogeneous three-manifold with isometry group of dimension $4$, and let $Σ$ be any compact surface of genus zero immersed in $M$ whose mean, extrinsic and Gauss curvatures satisfy a smooth elliptic relation $Φ(H,K_e,K)=0$. In this paper we prove that $Σ$ is a sphere of revolution, provided that the unique inextendible rotational surface $S$ in $M$ that satisfies this equation and touches its rotation axis orthogonally has bounded second fundamental form. In particular, we prove that: (i) any elliptic Weingarten sphere immersed in $\mathbb{H}^2\times \mathbb{R}$ i…
