Let $T$ be a so-called operator of Read's type on a (real or complex) separable Banach space, having no non-trivial invariant subset. We prove in this note that $T\oplus T$ is then hypercyclic, i.e. that $T$ satisfies the Hypercyclicity Criterion.
We provide a criterion for $\varepsilon$-hypercyclicity. Also, we extend the ideas of Badea, Grivaux, Müller and Bayart to construct $\varepsilon$-hypercyclic operators which are not hypercyclic in a wider class of separable Banach spaces, including several classical Banach spaces. For instance, our result can be applied to separable infinite dimensional $L^p$ spaces and $C(K)$ spaces.
We give a sufficient condition for two operators to be disjointly frequently hypercyclic. We apply this criterion to composition operators acting on $H(\mathbb D)$ or on the Hardy space $H^2(\mathbb D)$. We simplify a result on disjoint frequent hypercyclicity of pseudo shifts of a recent paper of Martin et al. and we exhibit two disjointly frequently hypercyclic weighted shifts.
We provide with criteria for a family of sequences of operators to share a frequently universal vector. These criteria are variants of the classical Frequent Hypercyclicity Criterion and of a recent criterion due to Grivaux, Matheron and Menet where periodic points play the central role. As an application, we obtain for any operator T in a specific class of operators acting on a separable Banach space, a necessary and sufficient condition on a subset $Λ$ of the complex plane for the family {$λ$T : $λ$ $\in$ $Λ$} to have a common frequently hypercyclic vector. In passing, this permits us to eas…
By strengthening one of the hypotheses of a well-known sufficient condition for the hypercyclicity of linear operators in Banach spaces, we arrive at a sufficient condition for linear chaos and reveal consequences of the latter for inverses, powers, multiples, and spectral properties. Extending the results, familiar for bounded linear operators, we also show that the hypercyclicity of unbounded linear operators subject to the sufficient condition for hypercyclicity is inherited by their bounded inverses, powers, and unimodular multiples and that necessary conditions for linear hypercyclicity s…
Given a locally compact group $G$ and $1\leq p<\infty$, a sufficient condition ensuring the \emph{disjoint hypercyclicity} of finitely many weighted translations on $L^p(G)$ was investigated in this paper.
In this paper, we study the hypercyclicity of forward and backward shifts on weighted $L^p$ spaces of a directed tree. In the forward case, only the trivial trees may support hypercyclic shifts, in which case the classical results of Salas apply. For the backward case, nontrivial trees may support hypercyclic shifts. We obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for hypercyclicity of the backward shift and, in the case of a rooted tree on an unweighted space, we show that these conditions coincide.
In this short note, we answer a question of Martin and Sanders [Integr. Equ. Oper. Theory, 85 (2) (2016), 191-220] by showing the existence of disjoint frequently hypercyclic operators which fail to be disjoint weakly mixing and, therefore, fail to satisfy the Disjoint Hypercyclicity Criterion. We also show that given an operator $T$ such that $T \oplus T$ is frequently hypercyclic, the set of operators $S$ such that $T, S$ are disjoint frequently hypercyclic but fail to satisfy the Disjoint Hypercyclicity Criterion is SOT dense in the algebra of bounded linear operators.
Considering a family of upper frequently hypercyclic operators we care about the existence of vectors which are upper frequently hypercyclic for any operator of this family. We establish sufficient conditions for a family of operators to have these vectors called common upper frequently hypercyclic vectors. Using this result, we then give a construction of such vectors. Finally we derive some applications to families of weighted shifts.
A bounded linear operator $T$ on a Banach space $X$ is called hypercyclic if there exists a vector $x \in X$ such that $orb{(x,T)}$ is dense in $X$. The Hypercyclicity Criterion is a well-known sufficient condition for an operator to be hypercyclic. One open problem is whether there exists a space where the Hypercyclicity Criterion is also a necessary condition. For a number of reasons, the spaces with very-few operators are some natural candidates to be a positive answer to that problem. In this paper, we provide a theorem that establishes some relationships for operators in these spaces.
Motivated by a question posed by Sophie Grivaux concerning the regularity of the orbits of frequently hypercylic operators, we show the following: for any operator $T$ on a separable metrizable and complete topological vector space $X$ which is both frequently hypercyclic and piecewise syndetic hypercyclic, the lower density and upper Banach density of the recurrence set $\{n\geq 1: T^n x\in U\}$ are different, for any hypercyclic vector $x\in X$ for $T$, and a certain collection of non-empty open sets $U\subseteq X$. As an immediate consequence we got a sufficient condition for a chaotic oper…

We study hypercyclicity of Toeplitz operators in the Hardy space $H^2(\mathbb{D})$ with symbols of the form $R(\overline{z}) +ϕ(z)$, where $R$ is a rational function and $ϕ\in H^\infty(\mathbb{D})$. We relate this problem to cyclicity of certain families of functions for analytic Toeplitz operators and give new sufficient conditions for hypercyclicity based on deep results of B. Solomyak.
We show that, under suitable conditions, an operator acting like a shift on some sequence space has a frequently hypercyclic random vector whose distribution is strongly mixing for the operator. This result will be applied to chaotic weighted shifts. We also apply it to every operator satisfying the Frequent Hypercyclicity Criterion, recovering a result of Murillo and Peris.
A conditional weighted composition operator $T_u: L^p(Σ)\rightarrow L^p(\mathcal{A})$ ($1\leq p<\infty$), is defined by $T_u(f):= E^{\mathcal{A}}(u f\circ φ)$, where $φ: X\rightarrow X$ is a measurable transformation, $u$ is a weight function on $X$ and $E^{\mathcal{A}}$ is the conditional expectation operator with respect to $\mathcal{A}$. In this paper, we study the subspace-hypercyclicity of $T_u$ with respect to $L^p(\mathcal{A})$. First, we show that if $φ$ is a periodic nonsingular transformation, then $T_u$ is not $L^p(\mathcal{A})$-hypercyclic. The necessary conditions for the subspace…
Complementing earlier results on dynamics of unilateral weighted shifts, we obtain a sufficient (but not necessary, with supporting examples) condition for hypercyclicity, mixing and chaos for $M_z^*$, the adjoint of $M_z$, on vector-valued analytic reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces $\mathcal{H}$ in terms of the derivatives of kernel functions on the open unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ in $\mathbb{C}$. Here $M_z$ denotes the multiplication operator by the coordinate function $z$, that is \[ (M_z f) (w) = w f(w), \] for all $f \in \mathcal{H}$ and $w \in \mathbb{D}$. We analyze the special case of quas…
We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the coincidence, up to equivalence of the norms, between strong and weak Orlicz spaces. Roughly speaking, this coincidence holds true only for the so-called exponential spaces. We find also the exact value of the embedding constant which appears in the corresponding norm inequality.
Consider a $C_0$-semigroup $(e^{tA})_{t \ge 0}$ on a function space or, more generally, on a Banach lattice $E$. We prove a sufficient criterion for the operators $e^{tA}$ to be positive for all sufficiently large times $t$, while the semigroup itself might not be positive. This complements recently established criteria for the individual orbits of the semigroup to become eventually positive for all positive initial values. We apply our main result to study the qualitative behaviour of the solutions to various partial differential equations.
