We provide a criterion for $\varepsilon$-hypercyclicity. Also, we extend the ideas of Badea, Grivaux, Müller and Bayart to construct $\varepsilon$-hypercyclic operators which are not hypercyclic in a wider class of separable Banach spaces, including several classical Banach spaces. For instance, our result can be applied to separable infinite dimensional $L^p$ spaces and $C(K)$ spaces.
In this paper, we study the hypercyclic composition operators on weighted Banach spaces of functions defined on discrete metric spaces. We show that the only such composition operators act on the "little" spaces. We characterize the bounded composition operators on the little spaces, as well as provide various necessary conditions for hypercyclicity.
Let $T$ be a so-called operator of Read's type on a (real or complex) separable Banach space, having no non-trivial invariant subset. We prove in this note that $T\oplus T$ is then hypercyclic, i.e. that $T$ satisfies the Hypercyclicity Criterion.
We study dynamical notions lying between $\mathcal{U}$-frequent hypercyclicity and reiterative hypercyclicity by investigating weighted upper densities between the unweighted upper density and the upper Banach density. While chaos implies reiterative hypercyclicity, we show that chaos does not imply $\mathcal{U}$-frequent hypercyclicity with respect to any weighted upper density. Moreover, we show that if $T$ is $\mathcal{U}$-frequently hypercyclic (resp. reiteratively hypercyclic) then the n-fold product of $T$ is still $\mathcal{U}$-frequently hypercyclic (resp. reiteratively hypercyclic) an…
Motivated by a question posed by Sophie Grivaux concerning the regularity of the orbits of frequently hypercylic operators, we show the following: for any operator $T$ on a separable metrizable and complete topological vector space $X$ which is both frequently hypercyclic and piecewise syndetic hypercyclic, the lower density and upper Banach density of the recurrence set $\{n\geq 1: T^n x\in U\}$ are different, for any hypercyclic vector $x\in X$ for $T$, and a certain collection of non-empty open sets $U\subseteq X$. As an immediate consequence we got a sufficient condition for a chaotic oper…
We provide conditions for a linear map of the form $C_{R,T}(S)=RST$ to be $q$-frequently hypercyclic on algebras of operators on separable Banach spaces. In particular, if $R$ is a bounded operator satisfying the $q$-Frequent Hypercyclicity Criterion, then the map $C_{R}(S)$=$RSR^*$ is shown to be $q$-frequently hypercyclic on the space $\mathcal{K}(H)$ of all compact operators and the real topological vector space $\mathcal{S}(H)$ of all self-adjoint operators on a separable Hilbert space $H$. Further we provide a condition for $C_{R,T}$ to be $q$-frequently hypercyclic on the Schatten von Ne…
Bayart and Ruzsa [Ergodic Theory Dynam. Systems 35 (2015)] have recently shown that every frequently hypercyclic weighted shift on $\ell^p$ is chaotic. This contrasts with an earlier result of Bayart and Grivaux [Proc. London Math. Soc. (3) 94 (2007)] who constructed a non-chaotic frequently hypercyclic weighted shift on $c_0$. We first generalize the Bayart-Ruzsa theorem to all Banach sequence spaces in which the unit sequences are a boundedly complete unconditional basis. We then study the relationship between frequent hypercyclicity and chaos for weighted shifts on Fréchet sequence spaces, …
We provide with criteria for a family of sequences of operators to share a frequently universal vector. These criteria are variants of the classical Frequent Hypercyclicity Criterion and of a recent criterion due to Grivaux, Matheron and Menet where periodic points play the central role. As an application, we obtain for any operator T in a specific class of operators acting on a separable Banach space, a necessary and sufficient condition on a subset $Λ$ of the complex plane for the family {$λ$T : $λ$ $\in$ $Λ$} to have a common frequently hypercyclic vector. In passing, this permits us to eas…
Generalizing the case of a normal operator in a complex Hilbert space, we give a straightforward proof of the non-hypercyclicity of a (bounded or unbounded) scalar type spectral operator $A$ in a complex Banach space as well as of the collection $\left\{e^{tA}\right\}_{t\ge 0}$ of the exponentials of such an operator, which, under a certain condition on the spectrum of the operator $A$, coincides with the $C_0$-semigroup generated by $A$. The spectrum of $A$ lying on the imaginary axis, we also show that non-hypercyclic is the strongly continuous group $\left\{e^{tA}\right\}_{t\in {\mathbb R}}…
A bounded linear operator $T$ on a Banach space $X$ is called hypercyclic if there exists a vector $x \in X$ such that $orb{(x,T)}$ is dense in $X$. The Hypercyclicity Criterion is a well-known sufficient condition for an operator to be hypercyclic. One open problem is whether there exists a space where the Hypercyclicity Criterion is also a necessary condition. For a number of reasons, the spaces with very-few operators are some natural candidates to be a positive answer to that problem. In this paper, we provide a theorem that establishes some relationships for operators in these spaces.
We identify concrete examples of hypercyclic generalised derivations acting on separable ideals of operators and establish some necessary conditions for their hypercyclicity. We also consider the dynamics of elementary operators acting on particular Banach algebras, which reveals surprising hypercyclic behaviour on the space of bounded linear operators on the Banach space constructed by Argyros and Haydon.
The (delta-) normal cone to an arbitrary intersection of sublevel sets of proper, lower semicontinuous, and convex functions is characterized, using either epsilon-subdifferentials at the nominal point or exact subdifferentials at nearby points. Our tools include (epsilon-) calculus rules for sup/max functions. The framework of this work is that of a locally convex space, however, formulas using exact subdifferentials require some restriction either on the space (e.g. Banach), or on the function (e.g. epi-pointed).
In this paper we prove a general convergence theorem for almost-additive set functions on unimodular, amenable groups. These mappings take their values in some Banach space. By extending the theory of epsilon-quasi tiling techniques, we set the ground for far-reaching applications in the theory of group dynamics. In particular, we verify the almost-everywhere convergence of abstract approximable bounded, additive processes, as well as a Banach space approximation result for the spectral distribution function (integrated density of states) for random operators on discrete structures in a metric…
