We present a general and natural framework to study the dynamics of composition operators on spaces of measurable functions, in which we then reconsider the characterizations for hypercyclic and mixing composition operators obtained by Bayart, Darji and Pires. We show that the notions of hypercyclicity and weak mixing coincide in this context and, if the system is dissipative, the recurrent composition operators agree with the hypercyclic ones. We also give a characterization for invertible composition operators satisfying Kitai's Criterion, and we construct an example of a mixing composition operator not satisfying Kitai's Criterion. For invertible dissipative systems with bounded distortion we show that composition operators satisfying Kitai's Criterion coincide with the mixing operators.
It is proved that for any separable infinite dimensional Banach space $X$, there is a bounded linear operator $T$ on $X$ such that $T$ satisfies the Kitai Criterion. The proof is based on quasisimilarity argument and on showing that $I+T$ satisfies the Kitai Criterion for certain backward weighted shifts $T$.
A bounded linear operator T on Hilbert space is subspace-hypercyclic for a subspace M if there exists a vector whose orbit under T intersects the subspace in a relatively dense set. We construct examples to show that subspace-hypercyclicity is interesting, including a nontrivial subspace-hypercyclic operator that is not hypercyclic. There is a Kitai-like criterion that implies subspace-hypercyclicity and although the spectrum of a subspace-hypercyclic operator must intersect the unit circle, not every component of the spectrum will do so. We show that, like hypercyclicity, subspace-hypercyclic…
We generalize a result for the translation $C_0$-semigroup on $L^p(\R_+,μ)$ about the equivalence of being chaotic and satisfying the Frequent Hypercyclicity criterion due to Mangino and Peris to certain weighted composition $C_0$-semigroups. Such $C_0$-semigroups appear in a natural way when dealing with initial value problems for linear first order partial differential operators. We apply our result to the linear von Foerster-Lasota equation arising in mathematical biology. Weighted composition $C_0$-semigroups on Sobolev spaces are also considered.
We prove a simple criterion for essential normality of composition operators on the Hardy space induced by maps in a reasonably large class of analytic self-maps of the unit disk. By combining this criterion with boundary Carathéodory-Fejér interpolation theory, we exhibit a parametrization for all rational self-maps of the unit disk which induce essentially normal composition operators.
A criterion for subnormality of unbounded composition operators in L2-spaces, written in terms of measurable families of probability measures satisfying the so-called consistency condition, is established. It becomes a new characterization of subnormality in the case of bounded composition operators. Pseudo-moments of a measurable family of probability measures that satisfies the consistency condition are proved to be given by the Radon-Nikodym derivatives which appear in Lambert's characterization of bounded composition operators. A criterion for subnormality of composition operators induced …
For any analytic self-map $ψ$ of $\{z: |z| < 1\}$, J. H. Shapiro has established that the square of the essential norm of the composition operator $C_ψ$ on the Hardy Space $H^2$ is precisely $\limsup_{|w|\rightarrow 1^-}N_ψ(w)/(1-|w|)$; where $N_ψ$ is the Nevanlinna counting function for $ψ$. In this paper we show that this quantity is equal to $\limsup_{|a|\rightarrow 1^-}(1 - |a|^2)||1/(1 - \bar{a}ψ)||_{H^2}^2.$ This alternative expression provides a link between the one given by Shapiro and earlier measure-theoretic notions. Applications are given.
In this paper we prove an invertibility criterion for certain operators which is given as a linear algebraic combination of Toeplitz operators and Fourier multipliers acting on the Hardy space of the unit disc. Very similar to the case of Toeplitz operators we prove that such operators are invertible if and only if they are Fredholm and their Fredholm index is zero. As an application we prove that for "quasi-parabolic" composition operators the spectra and the essential spectra are equal.
We characterize lower semi-Fredholm and Fredholm of weighted composition operators on $C(K)$ in the case when the corresponding map is an open surjection of the compact space $K$ onto itself. The obtained criterions involve the notion of almost homeomorphisms of compact spaces.
We study boundedness and compactness of composition operators on weighted Bergman spaces of Dirichlet series. Particularly, we obtain in some specific cases, upper and lower bounds of the essential norm of these operators and a criterion of compactness on classicals weighted Bergman spaces. Moreover, a sufficient condition of compactness is obtained using the notion of Carleson's measure.
We give a sufficient condition for two operators to be disjointly frequently hypercyclic. We apply this criterion to composition operators acting on $H(\mathbb D)$ or on the Hardy space $H^2(\mathbb D)$. We simplify a result on disjoint frequent hypercyclicity of pseudo shifts of a recent paper of Martin et al. and we exhibit two disjointly frequently hypercyclic weighted shifts.
We study the boundedness of composition operators on the weighted Bergman spaces and the Hardy space over the polydisc. For arbitrary polydisc we prove the rank sufficiency theorem which, in particular, provides us with a simple criterion describing boundedness of composition operators on the spaces over the bidisc. Such a consistent characterization is obtained for the classical Bergman space over the tridisc.
This paper discusses the existence of a sufficient condition for an operator to be weakly hypercyclic. We establish a weak hypercyclicity criterion, and thereupon we can answer questions 5.3 and 5.8 posed by Chan and Sanders in 2004. Lastly, we show that for specific type of composition operator, weak hypercyclicity and hypercyclicity are equivalent.
We show that a composition operator induced by an analytic self-map of the unit disc in the complex plane is weakly compact on the space BMOA precisely when the operator is compact on BMOA. As a crucial step we simplify the compactness criterion due to Smith for composition operators on BMOA and show that his condition on the Nevanlinna counting function alone characterizes compactness. In addition, other equivalent compactness criteria are established for composition operators on both BMOA and its subspace VMOA.
Let $Ω$ be a subdomain of $\mathbb{C}$ and let $μ$ be a positive Borel measure on $Ω$. In this paper, we study the asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalues of compact Toeplitz operator $T_μ$ acting on Bergman spaces on $Ω$. Let $(λ_n(T_μ))$ be the decreasing sequence of the eigenvalues of $T_μ$ and let $ρ$ be an increasing function such that $ρ(n)/n^A$ is decreasing for some $A>0$. We give an explicit necessary and sufficient geometric condition on $μ$ in order to have $λ_n(T_μ)\asymp 1/ρ(n)$. As applications, we consider composition operators $C_φ$, acting on some standard analytic spaces on th…
We establish a relation between Lipschitz operator ideals and linear operator ideals, which fits in the framework of Galois connection between lattices. We use this relationship to give a criterion which allow us to recognize when a Banach Lipschitz operator ideal is of composition type or not. Also, we introduce the concept of minimal Banach Lipschitz operator ideal, which have analogous properties to minimal Banach operator ideals. Also we characterize minimal Banach Lipschitz operator ideals which are of composition type and present examples which are not of this class.
Let $B(Ω)$ be the Banach space of holomorphic functions on a bounded connected domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb C^n$, which contains the ring of polynomials on $Ω$. In this paper, we first establish a criterion for $B(Ω)$ to be reflexive via evaluation functions on $B(Ω)$, that is, $B(Ω)$ is reflexive if and only if the evaluation functions span the dual spaces $(B(Ω))^{*} $. Moreover, under suitable assumptions on $Ω$ and $B(Ω)$, we establish a characterization of the composition operator $C_φ$ to be a Fredholm operator on $B(Ω)$ via the property of the holomorphic self-map $φ:Ω\toΩ$. Our new approach …
