In this paper, we first construct $k$-dimensional compact complex manifolds from automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^k$ which admit a fixed attracting point at infinity. Then, we charactize the fundamental group as well as the universal covering of the attracting basin of this fixed point thanks to a generalization of the method described by T. Bousch in his thesis.
We study holomorphic automorphisms on compact Kähler manifolds having simple actions on the Hodge cohomology ring. We show for such automorphisms that the main dynamical Green currents admit complex laminar structures (woven currents) and the Green measure is the unique invariant probability measure of maximal entropy.
Let f be a holomorphic automorphism of positive entropy on a compact Kaehler surface. We show that the equilibrium measure of f is exponentially mixing. The proof uses some recent development on the pluripotential theory. The result also holds for automorphisms on compact Kaehler manifolds of higher dimension under a natural condition on their dynamical degrees.
Let $f$ be a holomorphic automorphism of a compact Kähler manifold. Assume moreover that $f$ admits a unique maximal dynamic degree $d_p$ with only one eigenvalue of maximal modulus. Let $μ$ be its equilibrium measure. In this paper, we prove that $μ$ is exponentially mixing for all d.s.h.\ test functions.
Let $X$ be a Stein manifold of dimension $n\geq 2$ satisfying the volume density property with respect to an exact holomorphic volume form. For example, $X$ could be $\mathbb{C}^n$, any connected linear algebraic group that is not reductive, the Koras-Russell cubic, or a product $Y\times\mathbb{C}$, where $Y$ is any Stein manifold with the volume density property. We prove that chaotic automorphisms are generic among volume-preserving holomorphic automorphisms of $X$. In particular, $X$ has a chaotic holomorphic automorphism. A proof for $X=\mathbb{C}^n$ may be found in work of Fornæss and Sib…
We study basins of attraction of automorphisms of $\CC^2$ tangent to the identity that fix both axes. Our main result is that, if a well known conjecture about automorphisms of $\CC^*\times\CC^*$ holds, then there are no basins of attraction associated to the non-degenerate characteristic directions (in the sense of Hakim), and therefore we cannot find a Fatou-Bieberbach domain that does not intersect both axis with this method.
We prove two continuity theorems for the Lyapunov exponents of the maximal entropy measure of polynomial automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^2$. The first continuity result holds for any family of polynomial automorphisms of constant dynamical degree. The second result is the continuity of the upper exponent for families degenerating to a 1-dimensional map.
We generalise a recent example by F. Bracci, J. Raissy and B. Stensønes to construct automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^{d}$ admitting an arbitrary finite number of non-recurrent Fatou components, each biholomorphic to $\mathbb{C}\times(\mathbb{C}^{*})^{d-1}$ and all attracting to a common boundary fixed point. These automorphisms can be chosen such that each Fatou component is invariant or such that the components are grouped into periodic cycles of any common period. We further show that no orbit in these attracting Fatou components can converge tangent to a complex submanifold, and that every sta…
We construct automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^2$, and more precisely transcendental Hénon maps, with an invariant escaping Fatou component which has exactly two distinct limit functions, both of (generic) rank 1. We also prove a general growth lemma for the norm of points in orbits belonging to invariant escaping Fatou components for automorphisms of the form $F(z,w)=(g(z,w),z)$ with $g(z,w):\mathbb{C}^2\rightarrow\mathbb{C}$ holomorphic.
We introduce a notion of super-potential (canonical function) associated to positive closed (p,p)-currents on compact Kaehler manifolds and we develop a calculus on such currents. One of the key points in our study is the use of deformations in the space of currents. As an application, we obtain several results on the dynamics of holomorphic automorphisms: regularity and uniqueness of the Green currents. We also get the regularity, the entropy, the ergodicity and the hyperbolicity of the equilibrium measures.
Quadratic automorphisms of $\mathbb C^3$ are classified up to affine conjugacy into seven classes by Forn$æ$ss and Wu. Five of them contain irregular maps with interesting dynamics. In this paper, we focus on the maps in the fifth class and make some dynamical estimates for these maps.
We prove that the Euclidean ball can be realized as a Fatou component of a holomorphic automorphism of $\mathbb{C}^m$, in particular as the escaping and the oscillating wandering domain. Moreover, the same is true for a large class of bounded domains, namely for all bounded regular open sets $Ω\subset \mathbb{C}^m$ whose closure is polynomially convex. Our result gives in particular the first example of a bounded Fatou component with a smooth boundary in the category of holomorphic automorphisms.
In this note, we prove that every automorphism of a rational manifold which is obtained from $\Bbb{P}^k$ by a finite sequence blow-ups along smooth centers of dimension at most r with k>2r+2 has zero topological entropy.
We prove the existence of automorphisms of $\mathbb C^k$, $k\ge 2$, having an invariant, non-recurrent Fatou component biholomorphic to $\mathbb C \times (\mathbb C^\ast)^{k-1}$ which is attracting, in the sense that all the orbits converge to a fixed point on the boundary of the component. Such a Fatou component also avoids $k$ analytic discs intersecting transversally at the fixed point. As a corollary, we obtain a Runge copy of $\mathbb C \times (\mathbb C^\ast)^{k-1}$ in $\mathbb C^k$.
We study toplogical properties of attracting sets for automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^k$. Our main result is that a generic volume preserving automorphism has a hyperbolic fixed point with a dense stable manifold. We prove the same result for volume preserving maps tangent to the identity. On the other hand, we show that an attracting set can only contain a neighborhood of the fixed point if the fixed point is an attracting fixed point. We will see that the latter does not hold in the non-autonomous setting.
We show the existence of automorphisms $F$ of $\mathbb{C}^{2}$ with a non-recurrent Fatou component $Ω$ biholomorphic to $\mathbb{C}\times\mathbb{C}^{*}$ that is the basin of attraction to an invariant entire curve on which $F$ acts as an irrational rotation. We further show that the biholomorphism $Ω\to\mathbb{C}\times\mathbb{C}^{*}$ can be chosen such that it conjugates $F$ to a translation $(z,w)\mapsto(z+1,w)$, making $Ω$ a parabolic cylinder as recently defined by L.~Boc Thaler, F.~Bracci and H.~Peters. $F$ and $Ω$ are obtained by blowing up a fixed point of an automorphism of $\mathbb{C}…
We survey some properties of the automorphism groups of compact Kaehler manifolds. In particular, we present recent results by Keum, Oguiso and Zhang on the structure of these groups from the Tits alternative point of view. Several other related results will be also discussed. This paper is written for the VIASM Annual Meeting 2012.

A {\sl parabolic cylinder} is an invariant, non-recurrent Fatou component $Ω$ of an automorphism $F$ of $\mathbb C^2$ satisfying: (1) The closure of the $ω$-limit set of $F$ on $Ω$ contains an isolated fixed point, (2) there exists a univalent map $Φ$ from $Ω$ into $\mathbb C^2$ conjugating $F$ to the translation $(z,w) \mapsto (z+1, w)$, and (3) every limit map of $\{F^{\circ n}\}$ on $Ω$ has one-dimensional image. In this paper we prove the existence of parabolic cylinders for an explicit class of maps, and show that examples in this class can be constructed as compositions of shears and ove…
We show that the group of holomorphic automorphisms of a Stein manifold X of dimension greater than 1 is infinite-dimensional, provided X is a homogeneous space of a holomorphic action of a complex Lie group.
In this note, we give explicit examples of compact complex 3-folds which admit automorphisms that are isotopic to the identity through C $\infty$-diffeomorphisms but not through biholomorphisms. These automorphisms play an important role in the construction of the Te-ichm{ü}ller stack of higher dimensional manifolds.
In this paper, we deal with a strongly pseudoconvex almost CR manifold with a CR contraction. We will prove that the stable manifold of the CR contaction is CR equivalent to the Heisenberg group model.
We determine the Lie algebras of infinitesimal automorphisms for the models of the CR-manifolds belonging to general classes ${\sf II}$, ${\sf III_2}$ and ${\sf IV_2}$ through Cartan's equivalence method.
In this note, we consider models in $\mathbb C^2$. The purpose of this note is twofold. We first show a characterization of models in $\mathbb C^2$ by their noncompact automorphism groups. Then we give an explicit description for automorphism groups of models in $\mathbb C^2$.
We determine all connected homogeneous Kobayashi-hyperbolic manifolds of dimension $n\ge 2$ whose holomorphic automorphism group has dimension $n^2-2$. This result complements an existing classification for automorphism group dimension $n^2-1$ and greater obtained without the homogeneity assumption.
Using McMullen's rational surface automorphisms, we construct projective rational manifolds of higher dimension admitting automorphisms of positive entropy with arbitrarily high number of Siegel disks and those with exactly one Siegel disk.
We obtain a complete classification of complex Kobayashi-hyperbolic manifolds of dimension $n\ge 2$, for which the dimension of the group of holomorphic automorphisms is equal to $n^2$.
We determine all connected homogeneous Kobayashi-hyperbolic manifolds of dimension $n\ge 2$ whose holomorphic automorphism group has dimension $n^2-3$. This result complements existing classifications for automorphism group dimension $n^2-2$ (which is in some sense critical) and greater.
In this paper we determine all Kobayashi-hyperbolic 2-dimensional complex manifolds for which the group of holomorphic automorphisms has dimension 3. This work concludes a recent series of papers by the author on the classification of hyperbolic $n$-dimensional manifolds, with automorphism group of dimension at least $n^2-1$, where $n\ge 2$.
We show that there does not exist a Kobayashi hyperbolic complex manifold of dimension $n\ne 3$, whose group of holomorphic automorphisms has dimension $n^2+1$ and that, if a 3-dimensional connected hyperbolic complex manifold has automorphism group of dimension 10, then it is holomorphically equivalent to the Siegel space. These results complement earlier theorems of the authors on the possible dimensions of automorphism groups of domains in comlex space. The paper also contains a proof of our earlier result on characterizing $n$-dimensional hyperbolic complex manifolds with automorphism grou…
We classify all homogeneous Kobayashi-hyperbolic manifolds of dimension $n \ge 2$ whose group of holomorphic automorphisms has dimension either $n^2 - 7$ or $n^2 - 8.$ This paper continues the work of A. Isaev, who classified all such manifolds with automorphism group dimension $n^2 - 6$ and greater.
The main result of this paper is that the identity component of the automorphism group of a compact, connected, strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold is compact unless the manifold is CR equivalent to the standard sphere. In dimensions greater than 3, it has been pointed out by D. Burns that this result follows from known results on biholomorphism groups of complex manifolds with boundary and the fact that any such CR manifold M can be realized as the boundary of an analytic variety. When M is 3-dimensional, Burns's proof breaks down because abstract CR 3-manifolds are generically not realizable a…
We consider complex Kobayashi-hyperbolic manifolds of dimension $n\ge 2$ for which the dimension of the group of holomorphic automorphisms is equal to $n^2-1$. We give a complete classification of such manifolds for $n\ge 3$ and discuss several examples for $n=2$.
We determine all connected homogeneous Kobayashi-hyperbolic manifolds of dimension $n\ge 4$ whose group of holomorphic automorphisms has dimension either $n^2-4$, or $n^2-5$, or $n^2-6$. This paper continues a series of articles that achieve classifications for automorphism group dimension $n^2-3$ and greater.
We determine infinitesimal $\mathrm{CR}$ automorphisms and stability groups of real hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^2$ in the case when the hypersurface is nonminimal and of infinite type at the reference point.
The purpose of this paper is to give explicit descriptions for stability groups of real rigid hypersurfaces of infinite type in $\mathbb C^2$. The decompositions of infinitesimal CR automorphisms are also given.
In this paper we shall give sufficient conditions for local CR diffeomorphisms between two real analytic submanifolds of $\Bbb C^N$ to be determined by finitely many derivatives at finitely many points. These conditions will also be shown to be necessary in model cases. We shall also show that under the same conditions, the Lie algebra of the infinitesimal CR automorphisms at a point is finite dimensional.
In this article, we consider an infinite type domain $Ω_P$ in $\mathbb C^2$. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the holomorphic vector fields tangent to an infinite type model in $\mathbb C^2$ vanishing at an infinite type point and to give an explicit description of the automorphism group of $Ω_P$.
We prove that the natural representaion, on the total Betti cohomolgy group, of the automorphism group of a hyperkähler manifold deformation equivalent to a generalized Kummer manifold is faithful. This is a sort of generalization of an earlier work of Beauville and a recent work of Boissére, Nieper-Wisskirchan and Sarti, concerning the representation on the second cohomology group.
Given any real-analytic CR manifold M, we provide general conditions on M guaranteeing that the group of all its global real-analytic CR automorphisms is a Lie group (in an appropriate topology). Our conditions are in particular satisfied when M is an arbitrary compact real-analytic hypersurface embedded in some Stein manifold.
We classify polynomial models for real hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^N$, which admit nonlinearizable infinitesimal CR automorphisms. As a consequence, this provides an optimal 1-jet determination result in the general case. Further we prove that such automorphisms arise from one common source, by pulling back via a holomorphic mapping a suitable symmetry of a hyperquadric in some complex space.
In this paper we mainly study the following question: For what projective manifold $X$ of dimension $\geq 3$ that any $f\in Aut(X)$ has zero topological entropy? Using some non-vanishing conditions on nef cohomology classes, we study the case where $X\rightarrow X_0$ is a finite blowup along smooth centers, here $X_0$ is a projective manifold of interest. Here we allow $X_0$ to be either one of the following manifolds: it has Picard number 1, or a Fano manifold, or it is a projective hyper-Kähler manifold. We also allow the centers of blowups to have large dimensions relative to that of $X_0$ …
In this article, we consider $\mathcal{C}^\infty$-smooth real hypersurfaces of infinite type in $\mathbb C^2$. The purpose of this paper is to give explicit descriptions for stability groups of the hypersurface $M(a,α,p,q)$ (see Sec. $1$) and a radially symmetric hypersurface in $\mathbb C^2$.
In this paper we prove the following rigidity theorem: a generic analytic polyhedron with non-compact automorphism group is biholomorphic to the product of a complex manifold with compact automorphism group and a polydisk. Moreover, this complex manifold and the dimension of this polydisk can be explicitly described in terms of the limit set of the automorphism group.
We classify the Lie algebras of infinitesimal CR automorphisms of weakly pseudoconvex hypersurfaces of finite multitype in $\mathbb C^N$. In particular, we prove that such manifolds admit neither nonlinear rigid automorphisms, nor real or nilpotent rotations. As a consequence, this leads to a proof of a sharp 2-jet determination result for local automorphisms. Moreover, for hypersurfaces which are not balanced, CR automorphisms are uniquely determined by their 1-jets. The same classification is derived also for special models, given by sums of squares of polynomials. In particular, in the case…
We give a possible extension for shears and overshears in the case of two non commutative (quaternionic) variables in relation with the associated vector fields and flows. We present a possible definition of volume preserving automorphisms, even though there is no quaternionic volume form on $\mathbb{H}^2$ . Using this, we determine a class of quaternionic automorphisms for which the Ander- sen-Lempert theory applies. Finally, we exhibit an example of a quaternionic automor- phism, which is not in the in the closure of the set of finite compositions of volume preserving quaternionic shears.
A manifold M is locally conformally Kahler (LCK) if it admits a Kahler covering with monodromy acting by holomorphic homotheties. For a compact connected group G acting on an LCK manifold by holomorphic automorphisms, an averaging procedure gives a G-invariant LCK metric. Suppose that U(1) acts on an LCK manifold M by holomorphic isometries, and the lifting of this action to the Kahler cover of M is not isometric. We show that the cover admits an automorphic Kahler potential, and hence can be embedded to a Hopf manifold.
We characterize the group $\operatorname{Aut}(\mathbb G_2)$ for the symmetrized bidisc $\mathbb G_2:=\{(λ_1+λ_2,λ_1λ_2):|λ_1|,|λ_2|<1\}\sub set\mathbb C^2$.
We overview a number of precise notions for a holomorphic automorphism group to be big together with their implications, in particular we give an exposition of the notions of flexibility and of density property. These studies have their origin in the famous result of Andersén and Lempert from 1992 proving that the overshears generate a dense subgroup in the holomorphic automorphism group of $\C^n, n\ge 2$. There are many applications to natural geometric questions in complex geometry, several of which we mention here. Also the Linearization Problem, well known since the 1950 s and considered b…
We consider the only one known class of non-Kähler irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds, described in the works of D. Guan and the first author. Any such manifold $Q$ of dimension $2n-2$ is obtained as a finite degree $n^2$ cover of some non-Kähler manifold $W_F$ which we call the base of $Q$. We show that the algebraic reduction of $Q$ and its base is the projective space of dimension $n-1$. Besides, we give a partial classification of submanifolds in $Q$, describe the degeneracy locus of its algebraic reduction, and prove that the automorphism group of $Q$ satisfies the Jordan proper…
