We study toplogical properties of attracting sets for automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^k$. Our main result is that a generic volume preserving automorphism has a hyperbolic fixed point with a dense stable manifold. We prove the same result for volume preserving maps tangent to the identity. On the other hand, we show that an attracting set can only contain a neighborhood of the fixed point if the fixed point is an attracting fixed point. We will see that the latter does not hold in the non-autonomous setting.
We prove that there exists an automorphism of C^2 tangent to the identity with a domain of attraction to the origin, biholomorphic to the origin, along a degenerate characteristic direction.
We generalise a recent example by F. Bracci, J. Raissy and B. Stensønes to construct automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^{d}$ admitting an arbitrary finite number of non-recurrent Fatou components, each biholomorphic to $\mathbb{C}\times(\mathbb{C}^{*})^{d-1}$ and all attracting to a common boundary fixed point. These automorphisms can be chosen such that each Fatou component is invariant or such that the components are grouped into periodic cycles of any common period. We further show that no orbit in these attracting Fatou components can converge tangent to a complex submanifold, and that every sta…
We study basins of attraction of automorphisms of $\CC^2$ tangent to the identity that fix both axes. Our main result is that, if a well known conjecture about automorphisms of $\CC^*\times\CC^*$ holds, then there are no basins of attraction associated to the non-degenerate characteristic directions (in the sense of Hakim), and therefore we cannot find a Fatou-Bieberbach domain that does not intersect both axis with this method.
Let F be an automorphism of C^k which has a fixed point. It is well known that the basin of attraction is biholomorphically equivalent to C^k. We will show that the basin of attraction of a sequence of automorphisms is also biholomorphic to C^k if all the automorphisms are small perturbations of the original map F.
We prove the existence of automorphisms of $\mathbb C^k$, $k\ge 2$, having an invariant, non-recurrent Fatou component biholomorphic to $\mathbb C \times (\mathbb C^\ast)^{k-1}$ which is attracting, in the sense that all the orbits converge to a fixed point on the boundary of the component. Such a Fatou component also avoids $k$ analytic discs intersecting transversally at the fixed point. As a corollary, we obtain a Runge copy of $\mathbb C \times (\mathbb C^\ast)^{k-1}$ in $\mathbb C^k$.
The basin of attraction of a uniformly attracting sequence of holomorphic automorphisms that agree to a certain order in the common fixed point, is biholomorphic to $\mathbb{C}^n$. We also give sufficient estimates how large this order has to be.
In this paper, we first construct $k$-dimensional compact complex manifolds from automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^k$ which admit a fixed attracting point at infinity. Then, we charactize the fundamental group as well as the universal covering of the attracting basin of this fixed point thanks to a generalization of the method described by T. Bousch in his thesis.
We propose, within the context of the dynamics of a holomorphic germ in CI^N, a definition of 'attracting basin' of a fixed point. We prove that the inverse germ of an endomorphism of CI^N with a repulsive fixed point in 0, satisfying a supplementary technical hypothesis, admits an attracting basin which could be described as a Fatou-Bieberbach domain 'with many leaves'.
Let $f:\mathbb{C}^2\to \mathbb{C}^2$ be a polynomial skew product which leaves invariant an attracting vertical line $ L $. Assume moreover $f$ restricted to $L$ is non-uniformly hyperbolic, in the sense that $f$ restricted to $L$ satisfies one of the following conditions: 1. $f|_L$ satisfies Topological Collet-Eckmann and Weak Regularity conditions. 2. The Lyapunov exponent at every critical value point lying in the Julia set of $f|_L$ exist and is positive, and there is no parabolic cycle. Under one of the above conditions we show that the Fatou set in the basin of $L$ coincides with the uni…
Short $\mathbb{C}^2$'s were constructed in [F] as attracting basins of a sequence of holomorphic automorphisms whose rate of attraction increases superexponentially. The goal of this paper is to show that such domains also arise naturally as autonomous attracting basins: we construct a transcendental Hénon map with an oscillating wandering Fatou component that is a Short $\mathbb{C}^2$. The superexponential rate of attraction is not obtained at single iterations, but along consecutive oscillations.
A study of rational maps of the real or complex projective plane of degree two or more, concentrating on those which map an elliptic curve onto itself, necessarily by an expanding map. We describe relatively simple examples with a rich variety of exotic dynamical behaviors which are perhaps familiar to the applied dynamics community but not to specialists in several complex variables. For example, we describe smooth attractors with riddled or intermingled attracting basins, and we observe ``blowout'' bifurcations when the transverse Lyapunov exponent for the invariant curve changes sign. In th…
Consider a holomorphic automorphism acting hyperbolically on an invariant compact set. It has been conjectured that the arising stable manifolds are all biholomorphic to Euclidean space. Such a stable manifold is always equivalent to the basin of a uniformly attracting sequence of maps. The equivalence of such basins to Euclideans has been shown under various additional assumptions. Recently Majer and Abbondandolo achieved new results by non-autonomously conjugating to normal forms on larger and larger time intervals. We show here that their results can be improved by adapting these time inter…
We study whether the basin of attraction of a sequence of automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^k$ is biholomorphic to $\mathbb{C}^k$. In particular we show that given any sequence of automorphisms with the same attracting fixed point, the basin is biholomorphic to $\mathbb{C}^k$ if the maps are repeated often enough. We also construct Fatou-Bieberbach domains whose boundaries are 4-dimensional.
We prove that a holomorphic fixed point germ in two complex variables, tangent to the identity, and whose only characteristic direction is non-degenerate, has a domain of attraction on which the map is conjugate to a translation. In the case of a global automorphism, the corresponding domain of attraction is a Fatou-Bieberbach domain.
The purpose of this paper is to present several examples of non--autonomous basins of attraction that arise from sequences of automorphisms of $\mathbb C^k$. In the first part, we prove that the non-autonomous basin of attraction arising from a pair of automorphisms of $\mathbb C^2$ of a prescribed form is biholomorphic to $\mathbb C^2$. This, in particular, provides a partial answer to a question raised in connection with Bedford's Conjecture about uniformizing stable manifolds. In the second part, we describe three examples of Short $\mathbb C^k$'s with specified properties. First, we show t…
Let f_n be a sequence of analytic functions in a domain U with a common attracting fixed point z_0. Suppose that f_n converges to f_0 uniformly on each compact subset of U and that z_0 is a Siegel point of f_0. We establish a sufficient condition for the immediate basins of attraction $\mathcal A^*(z_0,f_n,U)$ to form a sequence that converges to the Siegel disk of f_0 as to the kernel with respect to z_0. The same condition is shown to imply convergence of the Koenings functions associated with f_n to that of f_0. Our method allows us also to obtain a kind of quantitative result for analytic …
Consider a holomorphic automorphism which acts hyperbolically on some invariant compact set. Then for every point in the compact set there exists a stable manifold, which is a complex manifold diffeomorphic to real Euclidean space. If the point is fixed, then the stable manifold is even biholomorphic to complex Euclidean space. In fact, it is known that the stable manifold of a generic point is biholomorphic to Euclidean space, and it has been conjectured that this holds for every point. In this article we survey the history of this problem, addressing both known results and the techniques use…
In a previous paper we produced a complex iteration of a holomorphic function $ϕ$ in the immediate basin of a fixed point whose multiplier is a real number and in between zero and one. We further explore this problem, allowing the multiplier to be a complex number and its modulus to be in between zero and one. We find expansions of results derived before. We will continue to use Ramanujan's master theorem and the process of \emph{factoring} appropriately bounded exponential functions by their values on the natural numbers. We will obtain \emph{all} complex iterations of entire $ϕ$ in the immed…
We show the existence of automorphisms $F$ of $\mathbb{C}^{2}$ with a non-recurrent Fatou component $Ω$ biholomorphic to $\mathbb{C}\times\mathbb{C}^{*}$ that is the basin of attraction to an invariant entire curve on which $F$ acts as an irrational rotation. We further show that the biholomorphism $Ω\to\mathbb{C}\times\mathbb{C}^{*}$ can be chosen such that it conjugates $F$ to a translation $(z,w)\mapsto(z+1,w)$, making $Ω$ a parabolic cylinder as recently defined by L.~Boc Thaler, F.~Bracci and H.~Peters. $F$ and $Ω$ are obtained by blowing up a fixed point of an automorphism of $\mathbb{C}…
We give a sufficient condition for the abstract basin of attraction of a sequence of holomorphic self-maps of balls in \mathbb{C}^{d} to be biholomorphic to \mathbb{C}^{d}. As a consequence, we get a sufficient condition for the stable manifold of a point in a compact hyperbolic invariant subset of a complex manifold to be biholomorphic to a complex Euclidean space. Our result immediately implies previous theorems obtained by Jonsson-Varolin and by Peters; in particular, we prove (without using Oseledec's theory) that the stable manifold of any point where the negative Lyapunov exponents are w…
In this paper, we study the attracting basins of the origin in C^(k+1) for the polynomial lifts of Lattes examples. We show that their boundaries are obtained as quotient of a spherical hypersurface and we explicit the singularities that appear. These domains are surprising, because they are very close to the ball, and admit a non injective self proper holomorphic map. For the proof, we desingularize these boundaries into a spherical hypersurface in a line bundle over a complex torus by using theta fonctions. Finally, we discuss some examples in dimension 2. We show that some critically finite…
