We obtain various general conditions in terms of the balayage and Green's functions under which the sequence of points is the zero set for weighted spaces of holomorphic functions in a domain on the complex plane.
Let $φ$ be a plurisubharmonic function on a pseudoconvex domain $D \subset \mathbb C^n$. We show that there exists a nonzero holomorphic function $f$ on $D$ such that some local mean value of $φ$ with logarithmic additional terms majorizes $\log |f|$. A similar problem is discussed for a locally integrable function on $D$ in terms of balayage of positive measures. Key words: holomorphic function, plurisubharmonicity, minorant, balayage, Jensen inequality, mean value in the ball.
Let $u$ be a plurisubharmonic function. We prove the existence of a nonzero holomorphic function such that the logarithm of its modulus is not more than local averages of this function $u$. This is the abstract for scientific conference "Algebra, Analysis and Related Problems of Mathematical Modeling" (Vladikavkaz, June 26-27, 2015) dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Professor, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Vladimir A. Chapter 1 deals with the problem of the existence of an upper/lower envelope from a convex cone or, more generally, a convex set for functions on the projective limit of vector lattices with values in the completion of the Kantorovich space or on the extended real line. Vector, ordinal and topological dual interpretations of the existence conditions of such envelope and the method of its construction are given. Chapter 2 presents applications to the existence of a nontrivial (pluri)subharmonic and/or (pluri) harmonic minorant for functions in domains from finite-dimensional real or complex spa…
The initial motivation for this paper is to discuss a more concrete approach to an approximation theorem of Axler and Shields, which says that the uniform algebra on the closed unit disc closure(D) generated by z and h --- where h is a nowhere-holomorphic harmonic function on D that is continuous up to the boundary --- equals the algebra of continuous functions on closure(D). The abstract tools used by Axler and Shields make harmonicity of h an essential condition for their result. We use the concepts of plurisubharmonicity and polynomial convexity to show that, in fact, the same conclusion is…
Kalantari's Geometric Modulus Principle describes the local behavior of the modulus of a polynomial. Specifically, if $p(z) = a_0 + \sum_{j=k}^n a_j\left(z-z_0\right)^j,\;a_0a_ka_n \neq 0$, then the complex plane near $z = z_0$ comprises $2k$ sectors of angle $\fracπ{k}$, alternating between arguments of ascent (angles $θ$ where $|p(z_0 + te^{iθ})| > |p(z_0)|$ for small $t$) and arguments of descent (where the opposite inequality holds). In this paper, we generalize the Geometric Modulus Principle to holomorphic and harmonic functions. As in Kalantari's original paper, we use these extensions …
We give an explicit relation between the slope of the trajectory of a semigroup of holomorphic functions and the harmonic measure of the associated planar domain ${\varOmega}$. We use this to construct a semigroup whose slope is an arbitrary interval in $ [π/2,-π/2] $. The same method is used for the slope of a backward trajectory approaching a super-repulsive fixed point.
The tension equation for a mapping $f:{\mathbb C}\to {\mathbb C}$ is the nonlinear second order equation \[ Δf +φ(f) f_z f_{\bar z} = 0\] Solutions are "harmonic" mappings. Here we give a complete description of the solution space of mappings of degree 1 to this equation when $φ$ is entire. Each solution is a quasiconformal surjection and when the set of normalised solutions is endowed with the Teichmüller metric, the solution space is isometric to the hyperbolic plane. More generally, for harmonic mappings $f:Ω\to (\tildeΩ,ρ)$ between domains in ${\mathbb C}$, with $ρ(w)|dw|$ defining a flat …
The purpose of this paper is to develop some methods to study Riesz type inequalities, Hardy-Littlewood type theorems and smooth moduli of holomorphic, pluriharmonic and harmonic functions in high-dimensional cases. Initially, we prove some sharp Riesz type inequalities of pluriharmonic functions on bounded symmetric domains. The obtained results extend the main results in (\textit{Trans. Amer. Math. Soc.} {\bf 372} (2019)~ 4031--4051). Furthermore, some Hardy-Littlewood type theorems of holomorphic and pluriharmonic functions on John domains are established. Additionally, we also discuss the …

Let $f$ be a harmonic map from a Riemann surface to a Riemannian $n$-manifold. We prove that if there is a holomorphic diffeomorphism $h$ between open subsets of the surface such that $f\circ h = f$, then $f$ factors through a holomorphic map onto another Riemann surface. If such $h$ is anti-holomorphic, we obtain an analogous statement. For minimal maps, this result is well known and is a consequence of the theory of branched immersions of surfaces due to Gulliver-Osserman-Royden. Our proof relies on various geometric properties of the Hopf differential.
Let \Fc be a holomorphic foliation by curves defined in a neighborhood of 0 in \C^2 having 0 as a hyperbolic singularity. Let T be a harmonic current directed by \Fc which does not give mass to any of the two separatrices. Then we show that the Lelong number of T at 0 vanishes. Next, we apply this local result to investigate the global mass-distribution for directed harmonic currents on singular holomorphic foliations living on compact complex surfaces. Finally, we apply this global result to study the recurrence phenomenon of a generic leaf.
Let $K\backslash G$ be an irreducible Hermitian symmetric space of noncompact type and $Γ\,\subset\, G$ a closed torsionfree discrete subgroup. Let $X$ be a compact Kähler manifold and $ρ\, :\, π_1(X, x_0)\,\longrightarrow\, Γ$ a homomorphism such that the adjoint action of $ρ(π_1(X, x_0))$ on $\text{Lie}(G)$ is completely reducible. A theorem of Corlette associates to $ρ$ a harmonic map $X\, \longrightarrow\, K\backslash G/Γ$. We give a criterion for this harmonic map to be holomorphic. We also give a criterion for it to be anti--holomorphic.
We give a new application of the theory of holomorphic motions to the study the distortion of level lines of harmonic functions and stream lines of ideal planar fluid flow. In various settings, we show they are in fact quasilines - the quasiconformal images of the real line. These methods also provide quite explicit global estimates on the geometry of these curves.
We prove some sharp inequalities for complex harmonic functions on the unit disk. The results extend a M. Riesz conjugate function theorem and some well-known estimates for holomorphic functions. We apply some of results to the isoperimetric inequality for harmonic mappings.
The main purpose of this paper is to develop some methods to investigate the Schwarz type lemmas of holomorphic mappings and pluriharmonic mappings in Hilbert and Banach spaces. Initially, we extend the classical Schwarz lemmas of holomorphic mappings to Hilbert and Banach spaces. Furthermore, we improve and generalize the classical Schwarz lemmas of planar harmonic mappings into the sharp forms of Banach spaces, and present some applications to sharp boundary Schwarz type lemmas for pluriharmonic mappings in Hilbert and Banach spaces and the obtained results provide the improvements and gener…
Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a holomorphic foliation by curves defined in a neighborhood of $0$ in $\mathbb{C}^n$ ($n\geq 2$) having $0$ as a weakly hyperbolic singularity. Let $T$ be a positive harmonic current directed by $\mathcal{F}$ which does not give mass to any of the $n$ coordinate invariant hyperplanes $\{z_j=0\}$ for $1\leq j\leq n.$ Then we show that the Lelong number of $T$ at $0$ vanishes. Moreover, an application of this local result in the global context is given. We discuss also the relation between several basic notions such as directed positive harmonic currents, directed positive d…
In this paper, we are concerned with the bicomplex analog of the well-known result asserting that real-valued harmonic functions, on simply connected domains, are the real parts of holomorphic functions. We show that this assertion, word for word, fails for bc-harmonic functions and we provide a complete characterization of bc-harmonic functions that are the hyperbolic real parts of a specific kind of bc-holomorphic functions. Moreover, we extend the result to bicomplex polyharmonic functions, which implies the introduction of specific classes of bc-polyholomorphic functions.
We study subharmonic functions whose Laplacian is supported on a null set and in connected components of of the complement to the support admit harmonic extensions to larger sets. We prove that if such a function has a piecewise holomorphic derivative, then it is locally piecewise harmonic. In generic cases it coincides locally with the maximum of finitely many harmonic functions. Moreover, we describe the support when the holomorphic derivative satisfies a global algebraic equation. The proofs follow classical patterns and our methods may also be of independent interest.
We prove some isoperimetric type inequalities for real harmonic functions in the unit disk belonging to the Hardy space $h^p$, $p>1$ and for complex harmonic functions in $h^4$. The results extend some recent results on the area. Further we discus some Riesz type results for holomorphic functions.
Let D be a bounded domain in the complex plane whose boundary consists of m pairwise disjoint simple closed curves where m is greater than one. Let A(bD) be the algebra of all continuous functions on bD which extend holomorphically through D. We show that a continuous function f on bD belongs to A(bD) if for each g in A(bD) the harmonic extension of Re(fg) to D has a single valued conjugate.
We study the behavior of the analytic capacity of a compact set under deformations obtained by families of conformal maps depending holomorphically on the complex parameter. We show that, under those deformations, the logarithm of the analytic capacity varies harmonically. We also show that the hypotheses in this result cannot be substantially weakened.
Let $(ϕ_t)_{t \geq 0}$ be a semigroup of holomorphic functions in the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ and $K$ a compact subset of $\mathbb{D}$. We investigate the conditions under which the backward orbit of $K$ under the semigroup exists. Subsequently, the geometric characteristics, as well as, potential theoretic quantities for the backward orbit of $K$ are examined. More specifically, results are obtained concerning the asymptotic behavior of its hyperbolic area and diameter, the harmonic measure and the capacity of the condenser that $K$ forms with the unit disk.
D. Khavinson and G. Swiatek proved that harmonic polynomials p(z)+q(z), where p is holomorphic, q is antiholomorphic, and deg p = n > 1 = deg q, can have at most 3n-2 complex zeros. We show that this bound is sharp for all n by proving a conjecture of Sarason and Crofoot about the existence of holomorphic polynomials p which map all critical points to their complex conjugates. We also count the number of equivalence classes of real polynomials solving this system of equations. The methods employed rely on Thurston's characterization of post-critically finite rational maps, in particular the re…
We study several new invariants associated to a holomorphic projective structure on a Riemann surface of finite analytic type: the Lyapunov exponent of its holonomy which is of probabilistic/dynamical nature and was introduced in our previous work; the degree which measures the asymptotic covering rate of the developing map; and a family of harmonic measures on the Riemann sphere, previously introduced by Hussenot. We show that the degree and the Lyapunov exponent are related by a simple formula and give estimates for the Hausdorff dimension of the harmonic measures in terms of the Lyapunov ex…
Let $X=U/K$ be a compact Hermitian symmetric space, and let $\sE$ be a $U$-homogeneous Hermitian vector bundle on $X$. In a previous paper, we showed that the space of nearly holomorphic sections is well-adapted for harmonic analysis in $L^2(X,\sE)$ provided that non-trivial nearly holomorphic sections do exist. Here we investigate the problem of extending local nearly holomorphic sections to global ones and prove the existence of non-trivial nearly holomorphic sections. This extends the results on the $U$-type decomposition of $L^2(X,\sE)$ from our previous paper.
The goal of this paper is to generalize Demailly's asymptotic holomorphic Morse inequalities to the case of a covering manifold of a compact manifold. We shall obtain estimates which involve Atiyah's ``normalized dimension'' of the square integrable harmonic spaces. The techniques used are those of Shubin who gave a proof for the usual Morse inequalities in the presence of a group action relying on Witten ideas. As a consequence we obtain estimates for the dimension of the square integrable holomorphic sections of the pull-back of a line bundle on the base manifold under some mild hypothesis f…
Let $(ϕ_t)_{t \geq 0}$ be a semigroup of holomorphic self-maps of the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ with Denjoy-Wolff point $τ=1$. The angular derivative is $ϕ_t^{\prime}(1)= e^{-λt}$, where $λ\geq 0$ is the spectral value of $(ϕ_t)$. If $λ>0$ the semigroup is hyperbolic, otherwise it is parabolic. Suppose $K$ is a compact non-polar subset of $\mathbb{D}$ with positive logarithmic capacity. We specify the type of the semigroup by examining the asymptotic behavior of $ϕ_t(K)$. We provide a representation of the spectral value of the semigroup with the use of several potential theoretic quantities e.g.…
Let $f$ be a holomorphic function on the unit disc, and $(S_{n_{k}})$ be a subsequence of its Taylor polynomials about $0$. It is shown that the nontangential limit of $f$ and lim$_{k\rightarrow \infty }S_{n_{k}}$ agree at almost all points of the unit circle where they simultaneously exist. This result yields new information about the boundary behaviour of universal Taylor series. The key to its proof lies in a convergence theorem for harmonic measures that is of independent interest.
Let F be a holomorphic foliation of P^2 by Riemann surfaces. Assume all the singular points of F are hyperbolic. If F has no algebraic leaf, then there is a unique positive harmonic $(1,1)$ current $T$ of mass one, directed by F. This implies strong ergodic properties for the foliation. We also study the harmonic flow associated to the current $T.$
For a harmonic diffeomorphism between the Poincaré disks, Wan showed the equivalence between the boundedness of the Hopf differential and the quasi-conformality. In this paper, we will generalize this result from quadratic differentials to $r$-differetials. We study the relationship between bounded holomorphic $r$-differentials and the induced curvature of the associated harmonic maps from the unit disk to the symmetric space $SL(r,\mathbb R)/SO(r)$ arising from cyclic/subcyclic harmonic Higgs bundles. Also, we show the equivalences between the boundedness of holomorphic differentials and havi…
Let $E$ be a holomorphic vector bundle endowed with a singular Hermitian metric $H$. In this paper, we develop the harmonic theory on $(E,H)$. Then we extend several canonical results of J. Kollár and K. Takegoshi to this situation. In the end, we generalise Nakano's vanishing theorem.
We study the harmonic space of line bundle valued forms over a covering manifold with a discrete group action $Γ$, and obtain an asymptotic estimate for the $Γ$-dimension of the harmonic space with respect to the tensor times $k$ in the holomorphic line bundle $L^{k}\otimes E$ and the type $(n,q)$ of the differential form, when $L$ is semipositive. In particular, we estimate the $Γ$-dimension of the corresponding reduced $L^2$-Dolbeault cohomology group. Essentially, we obtain a local estimate of the pointwise norm of harmonic forms with valued in semipositive line bundles over Hermitian manif…
In 1955, Lehto showed that, for every measurable function $ψ$ on the unit circle $\mathbb T,$ there is a function $f$ holomorphic in the unit disc, having $ψ$ as radial limit a.e. on $\mathbb T.$ We consider an analogous problem for solutions $f$ of homogenous elliptic equations $Pf=0$ and, in particular, for holomorphic functions on Riemann surfaces and harmonic functions on Riemannian manifolds.
