For a system of second order differential equations we determine a nonlinear connection that is compatible with a given generalized Lagrange metric. Using this nonlinear connection, we can find the whole family of metric nonlinear connections that can be associated with a system of SODE and a generalized Lagrange structure. For the particular case when the system of SODE and the metric structure are Lagrangian, we prove that the canonic nonlinear connection of the Lagrange space is the only nonlinear connection which is metric and compatible with the symplectic structure of the Lagrange space. The metric tensor of the Lagrange space determines the symmetric part of the nonlinear connection, while the symplectic structure of the Lagrange space determines the skew-symmetric part of the nonlinear connection.
A $(J^{2}=\pm 1)$-metric manifold has an almost complex or almost product structure $J$ and a compatible metric $g$. We show that there exists a canonical involution in the set of connections on such a manifold, which allows to define a projection over the set of connections adapted to $J$. This projection sends the Levi Civita connection onto the first canonical connection. In the almost Hermitian case, it also sends the $\nabla^{-}$ connection onto the Chern connection, thus applying the line of metric connections defined by $\nabla ^{-}$ and the Levi Civita connections onto the line of cano…
In this paper, we define the semi-symmetric metric connection on super Riemannian manifolds. We compute the semi-symmetric metric connection and its curvature tensor and its Ricci tensor on super warped product spaces. We introduce two kind of super warped product spaces with the semi-symmetric metric connection and give the conditions under which these two super warped product spaces with the semi-symmetric metric connection are the Einstein super spaces with the semi-symmetric metric connection.
The main purposes of this article are to extend our previous results on homogeneous sprays to arbitrary (generalized) sprays, to show that locally diffeomorphic exponential maps can be defined for any (generalized) spray, and to give a (possibly nonlinear) covariant derivative for any (possibly nonlinear) connection. In the process, we introduce vertically homogeneous connections. Unlike homogeneous connections, these allow us to include Finsler spaces among the applications. We provide significant support for the prospect of studying nonlinear connections via (generalized) sprays. One of the …
On a main class of the almost contact manifolds with B-metric, it is described the family of the linear connections preserving the manifold's structures by 4 parameters. In this family there are determined the canonical-type connection and the connection with zero parameters.
In this paper, we define a semi-symmetric non-metric connection on super Riemannian manifolds. And we compute the curvature tensor and the Ricci tensor of a semi-symmetric non-metric connection on super warped product spaces. Next, we introduce two kinds of super warped product spaces with a semi-symmetric non-metric connection and give the conditions that two super warped product spaces with a semi-symmetric non-metric connection are the Einstein super spaces with a semi-symmetric non-metric connection.
Spacetime is a 4-dimensional connected Lorentzian manifold. In this paper, we extend the Levi-Civita connection in the definition of spacetime to the semi-symmetric non-metric connection and conclude geometric structures admitted by the metric (1.1) with the semi-symmetric non-metric connections. Obviously, Morris-Thorne spacetime is Ricci generalized pseudosymmetry, Ricci generalized projectively pseudosymmetry, and has conformal 2-forms that are recurrent, etc. It also is an Einstein manifold of level 2 and 3-quasi-Einstein manifold.
In this paper we present a method by which is obtained a sequence of $k$-semisprays and two sequences of nonlinear connections on the $k$-tangent bundle $T^kM$, starting from a given one. Interesting particular cases appear for Lagrange and Finsler spaces of order $k$.
We apply the results from the article Cahen, Schwachhöfer: Special symplectic connections, to the case of Bochner-Kaehler metrics. We obtain a (local) classification of these based on the orbit types of the adjoint action in $su(n,1)$. The relation between Sasaki and Bochner-Kaehler metrics in cone and transveral metrics constructions is discussed. The connection of the special symplectic and Weyl connections is outlined. The duality between the Ricci-type and Bochner-Kaehler metrics is shown.
There are introduced and studied a pair of associated Schouten-van Kampen affine connections adapted to the contact distribution and an almost contact B-metric structure generated by the pair of associated B-metrics and their Levi-Civita connections. By means of the constructed non-symmetric connections, the basic classes of almost contact B-metric manifolds are characterized. Curvature properties of the considered connections are obtained.
In this paper we study some geometrical objects (d-tensors, multi-time semisprays of polymomenta and nonlinear connections) on the dual 1-jet vector bundle $J^{1*}(\cal{T}, M)\to \cal{T}\times M$. Some geometrical formulas, which connect the last two geometrical objects, are also derived. Finally, a canonical nonlinear connection produced by a Kronecker $h$-regular multi-time Hamiltonian is given.
We study the Schouten-van Kampen connection associated to an almost contact or paracontact metric structure. With the help of such a connection, some classes of almost (para) contact metric manifolds are characterized. Certain curvature properties of this connection are found.
In this paper we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a connection in a plane bundle above a surface to be locally metric. These conditions are easy to be verified in any local chart. Also as a global result we give a necessary condition for two connections to be metric equivalent in terms of their Euler class.
The object of this paper is to obtain the concircular curvature tensor of the semi symmetric non-metric connection on the Weyl manifold and to give a necessary and sufficient condition for a semi symmetric non-metric connection to be S-concircular.
Families of linear connections are constructed on almost contact manifolds with Norden metric. An analogous connection to the symmetric Yano connection is obtained on a normal almost contact manifold with Norden metric and closed structural 1-form. The curvature properties of this connection are studied on two basic classes of normal almost contact manifolds with Norden metric.
In this paper, we study non integrable distributions in a Riemannian manifold with a semi-symmetric metric connection, a semi-symmetric non-metric connection and a statistical connection. We obtain the Gauss, Codazzi, and Ricci equations for non integrable distributions with respect to the semi-symmetric metric connection, the semi-symmetric non-metric connection and the statistical connection. As applications, we obtain Chen's inequalities for non integrable distributions of real space forms endowed with a semi-symmetric metric connection and a semi-symmetric non-metric connection. We give so…
Almost contact manifolds with B-metric are considered. A special linear connection is introduced, which preserves the almost contact B-metric structure on these manifolds. This connection is investigated on some classes of the considered manifolds.
In this paper, we define a semi-symmetric metric Killing vector field, then study semi-symmetric metric Killing vector fields on warped and multiply warped products with a semi-symmetric metric connection. We also study Killing and 2-Killing vector fields on multiply warped products.
Almost contact manifolds with B-metric are considered. There are studied three natural connections (i.e. linear connections preserving the structure tensors) determined by conditions for their torsions. These connections are investigated on a family of Lie groups considered as 5-dimensional almost contact B-metric manifolds.
The goal of the present paper is to deliberate certain types of metric such as $*$-$η$-Ricci-Yamabe soliton on $α$-Cosymplectic manifolds with respect to quarter-symmetric metric connection. Further, we have proved some curvature properties of $α$-Cosymplectic manifolds admitting quarter-symmetric metric connection. Here, we have shown the characteristics of the soliton when the manifold satisfies quarter-symmetric metric connection on $α$-Cosymplectic manifolds. Later, we have acquired Laplace equation from $*$-$η$-Ricci-Yamabe soliton equation when the potential vector field $ξ$ of the solit…
A four-parametric family of linear connections preserving the almost complex structure is defined on an almost complex manifold with Norden metric. Necessary and sufficient conditions for these connections to be natural are obtained. A two-parametric family of complex connections is studied on a conformal Kähler manifold with Norden metric. The curvature tensors of these connections are proved to coincide.
In this paper, we obtain Chen's inequalities for submanifolds in $(κ,μ)$-contact space form with two kinds of generalized semi-symmetric non-metric connections.
On a manifold with an almost contact metric structure $(φ,\vecξ,η,g,X,D)$ the notions of the interior and the $N$-prolonged connections are introduced. Using the $N$-prolonged connection, a new almost contact metric structure is defined on the distribution $D$. The properties of this structure are studied.
The aim of this paper is to study generalized recurrent, generalized Ricci-recurrent, weakly symmetric and weakly Ricci-symmetric Kenmotsu manifolds with respect to the semi-symmetric non-metric connection.
In this paper, we study the well adapted connection attached to a $(J^{2}=\pm 1)$-metric manifold, proving it exists for any of the four geometries and obtaining a explicit formula as a derivation law. Besides we characterize the coincidence of the well adapted connection with the Levi Civita and the Chern connections.
The object of the present paper is to study locally $ϕ$-symmetric LP-Sasakian manifolds admitting semi-symmetric metric connection and obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a locally $ϕ$-symmetric LP-Sasakian manifold with respect to semi-symmetric metric connection to be locally $ϕ$-symmetric LP-Sasakian manifold with respect to Levi-Civita connection.
The $B$-connection on almost complex manifolds with Norden metric is an analogue of the first canonical connection of Lihnerovich in Hermitian geometry. In the present paper it is considered a $B$-connection in the class of the quasi-Kähler manifold with Norden metric. Some necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the corresponding curvature tensor to be Kählerian. Curvature properties for this connection are obtained. Conditions are given for the considered manifolds to be isotropic-Kähler.
The object of the present paper is to study invariant submanifolds of (LCS)n-manifolds with respect to quarter symmetric metric connection. It is shown that the mean curvature of an invariant submanifold of (LCS)n-manifold with respect to quarter symmetric metric connection and Levi-Civita connection are equal. An example is constructed to illustrate the results of the paper. We also obtain some equivalent conditions of such notion.
The aim of the present paper is to study the properties of Kenmotsu manifolds equipped with a non-symmetric non-metric connection. We also establish some curvature properties of Kenmotsu manifolds. It is proved that a Kenmotsu manifold endowed with a non-symmetric non-metric is irregular.
Let $(M,g)$ be a Riemannian manifold, and $m$ be a second metric on $M$. We give expressions of $m$'s associated connection, and Riemann curvature tensor $R_m$, in terms of $R_g$ and certain combinations of covariant derivatives of $m$ (with respect to the Levi-Civita connection associated with $g$). The formulas turn out to be generalizations of the coordinate expressions. Coordinate expression formulas can be recovered from ours by setting $g$ as the Euclidean metric induced by a given coordinate chart. As the covariant derivative induced by $g$ becomes the ordinary partial derivative and th…
A natural connection with totally skew-symmetric torsion on almost contact manifolds with B-metric is constructed. The class of these manifolds, where the considered connection exists, is determined. Some curvature properties for this connection, when the corresponding curvature tensor has the properties of the curvature tensor for the Levi-Civita connection and the torsion tensor is parallel, are obtained.
In the present work we consider an almost complex manifold with Norden metric (i.e. a metric with respect to which the almost complex structure is an antiisometry). On such a manifold we study a linear connection preserving the almost complex structure and the metric and having a totally skew-symmetric torsion tensor. We consider the case when the manifold admits a connection with parallel totally skew-symmetric torsion and the case when such connection has a Kaehler curvature tensor. We get necessary and sufficient conditions for an isotropic Kaehler manifold with Norden metric.
In this paper, we study the doubly warped product manifolds with semisymmetric metric connection. We derive the curvatures formulas for doubly warped product manifold with semi-symmetric metric connection in terms of curvatures of components of doubly warped product manifolds. We also prove the necessary and sufficient condition for a doubly warped product manifold to be a warped product manifold. We obtain some results for Einstein doubly warped product manifold and Einstein-like doubly warped product manifold of class A with respect to a semi-symmetric metric connection.
We study 5-dimensional Riemannian manifolds that admit an almost contact metric structure. We classify these structures by their intrinsic torsion and review the literature in terms of this scheme. Moreover, we determine necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of metric connections with vectorial, totally skew-symmetric or traceless cyclic torsion that are compatible with the almost contact metric structure. Finally, we examine explicit examples of almost contact metric 5-manifolds from this perspective.
We find necessary and sufficient conditions for the bi-Legendrian connection $\nabla$ associated to a bi-Legendrian structure $(\cal F,\cal G)$ on a contact metric manifold $(M,ϕ,ξ,η,g)$ being a metric connection and then we give conditions ensuring that $\nabla$ coincides with the (generalized) Tanaka-Webster connection of $(M,ϕ,ξ,η,g)$. Using these results, we give some interpretations of the Tanaka-Webster connection and we study the interactions between the Tanaka-Webster, the bi-Legendrian and the Levi Civita connection in a Sasakian manifold.
In this article we present a study of the subspaces of the manifold OscM, the total space of the osculator bundle of a real manifold M. We obtain the induced connections of the canonical metrical N-linear connection determined by the homogeneous prolongation of a Finsler metric to the manifold OscM. We present the relation between the induced and intrinsic geometric objects of the associated osculator submanifold.
The present study initially identify the generalized symmetric connections of type $(α,β)$, which can be regarded as more generalized forms of quarter and semi-symmetric connections. The quarter and semi-symmetric connections are obtained respectively when $(α,β)=(1,0)$ and $(α,β)=(0,1)$. Taking that into account, a new generalized symmetric metric connection is attained on Lorentzian para-Sasakian manifolds. In compliance with this connection, some results are obtained through calculation of tensors belonging to Lorentzian para-Sasakian manifold involving curvature tensor, Ricci tensor and Ri…
A locally metric connection on a smooth manifold $M$ is a torsion-free connection $D$ on $TM$ with compact restricted holonomy group $\mathrm{Hol}_0(D)$. If the holonomy representation of such a connection is irreducible, then $D$ preserves a conformal structure on $M$. Under some natural geometric assumption on the life-time of incomplete geodesics, we prove that conversely, a locally metric connection $D$ preserving a conformal structure on a compact manifold $M$ has irreducible holonomy representation, unless $\mathrm{Hol}_0(D)=0$ or $D$ is the Levi-Civita connection of a Riemannian metric …
In this note, we give the correct statements of [2,Proposition 3.3 and Theorem 3.4] and a formula of the Chern curvature in terms of the curvature tensor $R^V$ of the affine connection $\nabla^V$ and the Chern tensor $P$.
An eight-parametric family of complex connections on a class complex manifolds with Norden metric is introduced. The form of the curvature tensor with respect to each of these connections is obtained. The conformal group of the considered connections is studied and some conformal invariants are obtained.
A necessary condition for a connection in a vector bundle to be locally metric is for its curvature matrix, which consists of $2$ forms, to be skew symmetric with respect to some local frame. In this paper we give a simple algorithm that can be used to decide when a matrix of $2$ forms is equivalent to a skew symmetric matrix. We apply this algorithm to verify whether a "{\it full rank}" curvature connection is locally metric.
The notions of the interior and truncated connections of a nonholonomic manifold are introduced. A class of extended truncated connections is distinguished. For the case of a contact space with a Finsler metric, it is shown that there exists a unique extended truncated connection that satisfies additional properties. The curvature tensor of the obtained connection in the case of a sub-Riemannian space coincides with the Wagner curvature tensor that was constructed by Wagner for the case of an arbitrary nonholonomic manifold of codimension one endowed with an interior affine connection.
Let $M$ be an $n-$dimensional differentiable manifold equipped with a torsion-free linear connection $\nabla $ and $T^{\ast }M$ its cotangent bundle. The present paper aims to study a metric connection $\widetilde{% \nabla }$ with nonvanishing torsion on $T^{\ast }M$ with modified Riemannian extension ${}\bar{g}_{\nabla ,c}$. First, we give a characterization of fibre-preserving projective vector fields on $(T^{\ast }M,{}\bar{g}%_{\nabla ,c})$ with respect to the metric connection $\widetilde{\nabla }$. Secondly, we study conditions for $(T^{\ast }M,{}\bar{g}_{\nabla ,c})$ to be semi-symmetric…
In this paper, authors have established Chen's inequalities for the submanifolds of quaternionic Kaehler manifolds characterized by Ricci quarter-symmetric metric connection. Other than these inequalities, we have also derived generalized normalized Casorati curvature inequalities for the same submanifolds.
We extend the well-known formula for the Euler class of a real oriented even-dimensional vector bundle in terms of the curvature of a metric connection to the case of a general linear connection provided a metric is present. We rewrite the classical Gauss-Bonnet theorem in dimension two in light of this formula. We also discuss a potential application to a conjecture of Chern, and make a brief digression to discuss $m$-quasi-Einstein manifolds.
The canonical-type connection on the almost contact manifolds with B-metric is constructed. It is proved that its torsion is invariant with respect to a subgroup of the general conformal transformations of the almost contact B-metric structure. The basic classes of the considered manifolds are characterized in terms of the torsion of the canonical-type connection.
We consider an almost complex manifold with Norden metric (i. e. a metric with respect to which the almost complex structure is an anti-isometry). On such a manifold we study a linear connection preserving the almost complex structure and the metric and having a totally skew symmetric torsion tensor (i. e. a 3-form). We prove that if a non-Kaehler almost complex manifold with Norden metric admits such connection then the manifold is quasi-Kaehlerian (i. e. has non-integrable almost complex structure). We prove that this connection is unique, determine its form, and construct an example of it o…
We consider the Chern connection of a (conic) pseudo-Finsler manifold $(M,L)$ as a linear connection $\nabla^V$ on any open subset $Ω\subset M$ associated to any vector field $V$ on $Ω$ which is non-zero everywhere. This connection is torsion-free and almost metric compatible with respect to the fundamental tensor $g$. Then we show some properties of the curvature tensor $R^V$ associated to $\nabla^V$ and in particular we prove that the Jacobi operator of $R^V$ along a geodesic coincides with the one given by the Chern curvature.
The objective of the present paper is to study the $η$-Ricci solitons on Kenmotsu manifold with generalized symmetric metric connection of type $(α,β)$. There are discussed Ricci and $η$-Ricci solitons with generalized symmetric metric connection of type $(α,β)$ satisfying the conditions $\bar{R}.\bar{S}=0$, $\bar{S}.\bar{R}=0$, $\bar{W_{2}}.\bar{S}=0$ and $\bar{S}.\bar{W_{2}}=0.$. Finally, we construct an example of Kenmotsu manifold with generalized symmetric metric connection of type $(α,β)$ admitting $η$-Ricci solitons.
In this paper, we describe the space of adapted connections on a metric contact manifold through the space of their torsion tensors. The torsion tensor is an element of the space of TM-valued two-forms, which splits into various subspaces. We study the parts of the torsion tensor according to this splitting to completely describe the space of adapted connections. We use this description to obtain characterizations of the generalized Tanaka-Webster connection and to describe the Dirac operators of adapted connections.
We consider the more general question as to when a connection is a metric connection. There are two aspects to this investigation: first, the determination of the integrability conditions that ensure the existence of a local parallel metric in the neighbourhood of a given point and second, the characterization of the topological obstruction to a globally defined parallel metric.
We show that general Dunkl connections on $\mathbb{C}^2$ do not preserve non-zero Hermitian forms. Our proof relies on recent understanding of the non-trivial topology of the moduli space of spherical tori with one conical point.
We prove a Berger-type theorem which asserts that if the orthogonal subgroup generated by the torsion tensor (pulled back to a point by parallel transport) of a metric connection with skew-symmetric torsion is not transitive on the sphere, then the space must be locally isometric to a Lie group with a bi-invariant metric or its symmetric dual (we assume the space to be locally irreducible). We also prove that a (simple) Lie group with a bi-invariant metric admits only two flat metric connections with skew-symmetric torsion: the two flat canonical connections. In particular, we get a refinement…
This paper is a survey of results obtained by the authors on the geometry of connections with totally skew-symmetric torsion on the following manifolds: almost complex manifolds with Norden metric, almost contact manifolds with B-metric and almost hypercomplex manifolds with Hermitian and anti-Hermitian metric.
Let $FM,\mathcal{M}_M$ be the bundles of linear frames and Riemannian metrics of a manifold $M$, respectively. The existence of a unique $\mathrm{Diff}M$-invariant connection form on $J^1\mathcal{M}_M\times_MFM\to J^1\mathcal{M}_M$, which is Riemannian with respect to the universal metric on $J^1\mathcal{M}_M\times_MTM$, is proved. Aplications to the construction of universal Pontryagin and Euler forms, are given.
The present note deals with the dynamics of metric connections with vectorial torsion, as already described by E. Cartan in 1925. We show that the geodesics of metric connections with vectorial torsion defined by gradient vector fields coincide with the Levi-Civita geodesics of a conformally equivalent metric. By pullback, this yields a systematic way of constructing invariants of motion for such connections from isometries of the conformally equivalent metric, and we explain in as much this result generalizes the Mercator projection which maps sphere loxodromes to straight lines in the plane.…
