In this paper we study some geometrical objects (d-tensors, multi-time semisprays of polymomenta and nonlinear connections) on the dual 1-jet vector bundle $J^{1*}(\cal{T}, M)\to \cal{T}\times M$. Some geometrical formulas, which connect the last two geometrical objects, are also derived. Finally, a canonical nonlinear connection produced by a Kronecker $h$-regular multi-time Hamiltonian is given.
In this paper, we compute canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections and their curvature on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with some product structure. We define algebraic Ricci solitons associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections. We classify algebraic Ricci solitons associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with some product structure.
In this paper, we classify Left-invariant Ricci collineations associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups.
A $(J^{2}=\pm 1)$-metric manifold has an almost complex or almost product structure $J$ and a compatible metric $g$. We show that there exists a canonical involution in the set of connections on such a manifold, which allows to define a projection over the set of connections adapted to $J$. This projection sends the Levi Civita connection onto the first canonical connection. In the almost Hermitian case, it also sends the $\nabla^{-}$ connection onto the Chern connection, thus applying the line of metric connections defined by $\nabla ^{-}$ and the Levi Civita connections onto the line of cano…
We construct a canonically defined affine connection in sub-Riemannian contact geometry. Our method mimics that of the Levi-Civita connection in Riemannian geometry. We compare it with the Tanaka-Webster connection in the three-dimensional case.
The canonical connection on a Riemannian almost product manifold is an analogue to the Hermitian connection on an almost Hermitian manifold. In this paper we consider the canonical connection on a class of Riemannian almost product manifolds with non-integrable almost product structure. We construct and characterize an example by a Lie group.
We give a differential geometric description of the Cartan (or tractor) bundle and its canonical connection in CR geometry, thus offering a direct, alternative, definition to the usual abstract approach.
In this paper, following the constructions of N. R. O'Brian, J. H. Rawnsley and I. Vaisman, we define four almost Hermitian structures (up to conjugation) on the twistor space of a Hermitian surface by using canonical connections, including the Lichnerowicz connection and the Chern connection. We also study the relations between the natural geometry of the twistor spaces and the geometry of Hermitian surfaces.
The canonical-type connection on the almost contact manifolds with B-metric is constructed. It is proved that its torsion is invariant with respect to a subgroup of the general conformal transformations of the almost contact B-metric structure. The basic classes of the considered manifolds are characterized in terms of the torsion of the canonical-type connection.
We extend the result in J. Reine Angew. Math. 664, 29-53, to the non-compact case. Namely, we prove that the canonical connection on a simply connected and irreducible naturally reductive space is unique, provided the space is not a sphere, a compact Lie group with a bi-invariant metric or its symmetric dual. In particular, the canonical connection is unique for the hyperbolic space when the dimension is different from three. We also prove that the canonical connection on the sphere is unique for the symmetric presentation. Finally, we compute the full isometry group (connected component) of a…
We consider a pair of smooth manifolds, which are the counterparts in the even-dimensional and odd-dimensional cases. They are separately an almost complex manifold with Norden metric and an almost contact manifolds with B-metric, respectively. They can be combined as the so-called almost contact complex Riemannian manifold. This paper is a survey with additions of results on differential geometry of canonical-type connections (i.e. metric connections with torsion satisfying a certain algebraic identity) on the considered manifolds.
A notion known as smooth envelope, or superposition closure, appears naturally in several approaches to generalized smooth manifolds which were proposed in the last decades. Such an operation is indispensable in order to perform differential calculus. A derivation of the enveloping algebra can be restricted to the original one, but it is a delicate question if the the vice-versa can be done as well. In a physical language, this would corresponds to the existence of a canonical connection. In this paper we show an example of an algebra which always possesses such a connection.
This paper studies the canonical symmetric connection $\nabla$ associated to any Lie group $G$. The salient properties of $\nabla$ are stated and proved. The Lie symmetries of the geodesic system of a general linear connection are formulated. The results are then applied to $\nabla$ in the special case where the Lie algebra $\g$ of $G$, has a codimension one abelian nilradical. The conditions that determine a Lie symmetry in such a case are completely integrated. Finally the results obtained are compared with some four-dimensional Lie groups whose Lie algebras have three-dimensional abelian ni…
The canonical paracontact connection is defined and it is shown that its torsion is the obstruction the paracontact manifold to be paraSasakian. A $\mathcal{D}$-homothetic transformation is determined as a special gauge transformation. The $η$-Einstein manifold are defined, it is prove that their scalar curvature is a constant and it is shown that in the paraSasakian case these spaces can be obtained from Einstein paraSasakian manifolds with a $\mathcal{D}$-homothetic transformations. It is shown that an almost paracontact structure admits a connection with totally skew-symmetric torsion if an…
We study a discrete dynamical system designed to find a 'most holomorphic' connection on a smooth complex vector bundle $E$. We examine the relation between the distance of the chern classes of $E$ from the $(p,p)$ axis of the Hodge diamond and singularity formation. Canonical connections and canonical metrics pulled back from Grassmannians play a major role, and we review their differential geometry. As an exercise in the geometry of canonical connections, we include an expression for the curvature in terms of heat kernels.
We study several linear connections (the first canonical, the Chern, the well adapted, the Levi Civita, the Kobayashi-Nomizu, the Yano, the Bismut and those with totally skew-symmetric torsion) which can be defined on the four geometric types of $(J^2=\pm1)$-metric manifolds. We characterize when such a connection is adapted to the structure, and obtain a lot of results about coincidence among connections. We prove that the first canonical and the well adapted connections define a one-parameter family of adapted connections, named canonical connections, thus extending to almost Norden and almo…
The notion of Kodaira dimension has recently been extended to general almost complex manifolds. In this paper we focus on the Kodaira dimension of almost Kähler manifolds, providing an explicit computation for a family of almost Kähler threefolds on the differentiable manifold underlying a Nakamura manifold. We concentrate also on the link between Kodaira dimension and the curvature of the canonical connection of an almost Kähler manifold, and show that in the previous example (and in another one obtained from a Kodaira surface) the Ricci curvature of the almost Kähler metric vanishes for all …
We study the geometry of the canonical connection on a quasi-Kaehler manifold with Norden metric. We consider the cases when the canonical connection has Kaehler curvature tensor and parallel torsion, and derive conditions for an isotropic-Kaehler manifold. We give the relation between the canonical connection, the B-connection, and the connection with totally skew-symmetric torsion on quasi-Kaehler manifolds with Norden metric.
In this paper, we classify affine Ricci solitons associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections and perturbed canonical connections and perturbed Kobayashi-Nomizu connections on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with some product structure.
We describe a complete system of invariants for 4-dimensional CR manifolds of CR dimension 1 and codimension 2 with Engel CR distribution by constructing an explicit canonical Cartan connection. We also investigate the relation between the Cartan connection and the normal form of the defining equation of an embedded Engel CR manifold.
We reconsider the (rational) Calogero-Moser system from the point of view of bi-Hamiltonian geometry. By using geometrical tools of the latter, we explicitly construct set(s) of spectral canonical coordinates, that is, complete sets of Darboux coordinates defined by the eigenvalues and the eigenvectors of the Lax matrix.
We study the equivalence problem for $4$-dimensional CR-manifolds of CR-dimension $1$ and codimension $2$ which are referred to as Engel CR-manifolds. We construct a canonical Cartan connection on such CR-manifolds through Cartan equivalence's method. In particular, we give the explicit expression of $4$ biholomorphic invariants, the annulation of which is a necessary and sufficient condition for an Engel manifold to be locally biholomorphic to Beloshapka's cubic in $\mathbb{C}^3$.
In sub-Riemannian geometry the coefficients of the Jacobi equation define curvature-like invariants. We show that these coefficients can be interpreted as the curvature of a canonical Ehresmann connection associated to the metric, first introduced in [Zelenko-Li]. We show why this connection is naturally nonlinear, and we discuss some of its properties.
We characterize quasi Kähler manifolds whose curvature tensor associated to the canonical Hermitian connection satisfies the first Bianchi identity. This condition is related with the third Gray identity and in the almost Kähler case implies the integrability. Our main tool is the existence of generalized holomorphic frames introduced by the second author previously. By using such frames we also give a simpler and shorter proof of a Theorem of Goldberg. Furthermore we study almost Hermitian structures having the curvature tensor associated to the canonical Hermitian connection equal to zero. W…
The aim of this paper is to open the problem of construction of a nonlinear connection $Γ=(M^{(i)}_{(α)β}, N^{(i)}_{(α)j})$ on the jet bundle of first order $J^1(T,M)$, which to be canonically produced by a Kronecker product vertical metrical d-tensor $G^{(α)(β)}_{(i)(j)}=h^{αβ}g_{ij}$, possibly provided by multi-time dependent quadratic Lagrangians coming from various branches of theoretical physics: bosonic strings theory, electrodynamics or elasticity.
On a real analytic 5-dimensional CR-generic submanifold M^5 in C^4 of codimension 3, hence of CR dimension 1, which enjoys the generically satisfied nondegeneracy condition that Lie brackets up to length 3 of T^{1,0}M generate CTM, a canonical Cartan connection is constructed after reduction to a certain partially explicit e-structure of the concerned local biholomorphic equivalence problem. More advanced explorations of the incoming differential invariants due to the first and to the third authors already appeared in January 2014, hence the purpose is to show, while studying this specific Cla…
We investigate the symplectic geometric and differential geometric aspects of the moduli space of connections on a compact Riemann surface $X$. Fix a theta characteristic $K^{1/2}_X$ on $X$; it defines a theta divisor on the moduli space ${\mathcal M}$ of stable vector bundles on $X$ of rank $r$ degree zero. Given a vector bundle $E \in {\mathcal M}$ lying outside the theta divisor, we construct a natural holomorphic connection on $E$ that depends holomorphically on $E$. Using this holomorphic connection, we construct a canonical holomorphic isomorphism between the following two: \begin{enumer…
We study the problem of finding good gauges for connections in higher gauge theories. We find that, for $2$-connections in strict $2$-gauge theory and $3$-connections in $3$-gauge theory, there are local "Coulomb gauges" that are more canonical than in classical gauge theory. In particular, they are essentially unique, and no smallness of curvature is needed in the critical dimensions. We give natural definitions of $2$-Yang-Mills and $3$-Yang-Mills theory and find that the choice of good gauges makes them essentially linear. As an application, (anti-)selfdual $2$-connections over $B^6$ are al…
We introduce a canonical affine connection on the contact manifold $(Q,ξ)$, which is associated to each contact triad $(Q,λ,J)$ where $λ$ is a contact form and $J:ξ\to ξ$ is an endomorphism with $J^2 = -id$ compatible to $dλ$. We call it the \emph{contact triad connection} of $(Q,λ,J)$ and prove its existence and uniqueness. The connection is canonical in that the pull-back connection $ϕ^*\nabla$ of a triad connection $\nabla$ becomes the triad connection of the pull-back triad $(Q, ϕ^*λ, ϕ^*J)$ for any diffeomorphism $ϕ:Q \to Q$ satisfying $ϕ^*λ= λ$ (sometimes called a strict contact diffeomo…
