The notion of Kodaira dimension has recently been extended to general almost complex manifolds. In this paper we focus on the Kodaira dimension of almost Kähler manifolds, providing an explicit computation for a family of almost Kähler threefolds on the differentiable manifold underlying a Nakamura manifold. We concentrate also on the link between Kodaira dimension and the curvature of the canonical connection of an almost Kähler manifold, and show that in the previous example (and in another one obtained from a Kodaira surface) the Ricci curvature of the almost Kähler metric vanishes for all the members of the family.
This is a sequel of \cite{Wang}, which provides a general formalism for this paper. We mainly investigate thoroughly a subclass of toric generalized K$\ddot{a}$hler manifolds of symplectic type introduced by Boulanger in \cite{Bou}. We find torus actions on such manifolds are all \emph{strong Hamiltonian} in the sense of \cite{Wang}. For each such a manifold, we prove that besides the ordinary two complex structures $J_\pm$ associated to the biHermitian description, there is a \emph{third} canonical complex structure $J_0$ underlying the geometry, which makes the manifold toric K$\ddot{a}$hler…
For projective varieties with definite first Chern class we have one type of canonical metric which is called Kähler-Einstein metric. But for varieties with an intermidiate Kodaira dimension we can have several different types of canonical metrics. In this paper we introduce a new notion of canonical metric for varieties with an intermidiate Kodaira dimension. We highlight that to get $C^\infty$-solution of CMA equation of relative Kähler Einstein metric we need Song-Tian-Tsuji measure (which has minimal singularities with respect to other relative volume forms) be $C^\infty$-smooth and specia…
In this paper, we consider Kahler-Ricci flow on n-dimensional Kahler manifold with semi-ample canonical line bundle and 0< m:= Kod(X)<n. Such manifolds admit a Calabi-Yau fibration over its canonical model. We prove that the scalar curvature of the Kahler metric along the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow converge to -m outside the singular set of this fibration.
We introduce a class of almost homogeneous varieties contained in the class of spherical varieties and containing horospherical varieties as well as complete symmetric varieties. We develop K{ä}hler geometry on these varieties, with applications to canonical metrics in mind, as a generalization of the Guillemin-Abreu-Donaldson geometry of toric varieties. Namely we associate convex functions with hermitian metrics on line bundles, and express the curvature form in terms of this function, as well as the corresponding Monge-Amp{è}re volume form and scalar curvature. We then provide an expression…
The existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics on a compact Kähler manifold has been the subject of intensive study over the last few decades, following Yau's solution to Calabi's conjecture. The Ricci flow, introduced by Richard Hamilton has become one of the most powerful tools in geometric analysis. We study the Kähler-Ricci flow on minimal surfaces of Kodaira dimension one and show that the flow collapses and converges to a unique canonical metric on its canonical model. Such a canonical is a generalized Kähler-Einstein metric. Combining the results of Cao, Tsuji, Tian and Zhang, we give a metri…
It is conjectured that the moduli b-divisor of the Kawamata-Kodaira canonical bundle formula associated to a klt-trivial fibration $(X,B)\to Z$ is semi-ample. In this paper, we show the semi-ampleness of an arbitrarily small perturbation of the moduli b-divisor by a fixed appropriate divisor which roughly speaking comes from a section of $K_X+B$. We apply the above result to settle a conjecture of Fujino and Gongyo: if $f\colon X\to Z$ is a smooth surjective morphism of smooth projective varieties with $-K_X$ semi-ample, then $-K_Z$ is also semi-ample. We list several counter-examples to show …
We define analogue of theta-functions on the Kodaira--Thurston manifold which is a compact 4-dimensional symplectic manifold and use them to construct canonical symplectic embedding of the Kodaira--Thurston manifold into the complex projective space (analogue of the Lefshetz theorem).
We show that the Kahler-Ricci flow on an algebraic manifold of positive Kodaira dimension and semi-ample canonical line bundle converges to a unique canonical metric on its canonical model. It is also shown that there exists a canonical measure of analytic Zariski decomposition on an algebraic manifold of positive Kodaira dimension. Such a canonical measure is unique and invariant under birational transformations under the assumption of the finite generation of canonical rings.
We describe the induced geometry on several classes of Kodaira moduli spaces of rational curves in twistor spaces. By constructing connections and frames on the moduli spaces we build and review twistor theories pertaining to relativistic and non-relativistic geometries. Focussing on the cases of three- and five-dimensional moduli spaces we establish novel twistor theories of Newton-Cartan spacetimes. We generalise a canonical class of connections on Kodaira moduli spaces to encompass torsion and prove that in three dimensions deformations of the twistor space's holomorphic structure induce Ne…
Let $(X,g)$ be a compact Riemannian manifold with quasi-positive Riemannian scalar curvature. If there exists a complex structure $J$ compatible with $g$, then the canonical bundle $K_X$ is not pseudo-effective and the Kodaira dimension $κ(X,J)=-\infty$. We also introduce the complex Yamabe number $λ_c(X)$ for compact complex manifold $X$, and show that if $λ_c(X)>0$, then $κ(X)=-\infty$; moreover, if $X$ is also spin, then the Hirzebruch $A$-hat genus $\hat A(X)=0$.
Given a (meromorphic) fibration $f:X\to Y$ where $X$ and $Y$ are compact complex manifolds of dimensions $n$ and $m$, we define $L_f$ to be the invertible subsheaf of the sheaf of holomorphic $m$-forms of $X$ given by the saturation of $f^*K_Y$, where $K_Y$ is the canonical sheaf of $Y$. We define the Kodaira dimension of the orbifold base $(Y,f)$ by that of $L_f$ and call the fibration to be of general type if this dimension is the maximal $\dime Y$. We call $X$ special if it does not have a general type fibration with positive dimensional base and call $f$ special if its general fibers are. …
Let $X$ be a normal compact Kähler space with klt singularities and torsion canonical bundle. We show that $X$ admits arbitrarily small deformations that are projective varieties if its locally trivial deformation space is smooth. We then prove that this unobstructedness assumption holds in at least three cases: if $X$ has toroidal singularities, if $X$ has finite quotient singularities, and if the second cohomology group of its tangent sheaf vanishes.
The aim of this paper is to continue the study of Kodaira dimension for almost complex manifolds, focusing on the case of compact $4$-dimensional solvmanifolds without any integrable almost complex structure. According to the classification theory we consider: $\mathfrak{r}\mathfrak{r}_{3, -1}$, $\mathfrak{nil}^4$ and $\mathfrak{r}_{4, λ, -(1 + λ)}$ with $-1 < λ< -\frac{1}{2}$. For the first solvmanifold we introduce special families of almost complex structures, compute the corresponding Kodaira dimension and show that it is no longer a deformation invariant. Moreover we prove Ricci flatness …
On a compact Kähler manifold with semi-ample canonical line bundle and Kodaira dimension one, we observe a relation between the infinite-time singularity type of the Kähler-Ricci flow and the characteristic indexes of singular fibers of the semi-ample fibration.
For any integer $k$ we construct an explicit example of a twistor space which contains a one--parameter family of jumping rational curves, where the normal bundle changes from $O(1)+O(1)$ to $O(k)+O(2-k)$. For $k>3$ the resulting anti--self--dual Ricci-flat manifold is a Zariski cone in the space of holomorphic sections of $O(k)$. In the case $k=2$ we recover the canonical example of Hitchin's folded hyper-Kahler manifold, where the jumping lines form a three--parameter family. We show that in this case there exist normalisable solutions to the Schrodinger equation which extend through the fol…
Given a Kähler fiber space $p:X\to Y$ whose generic fiber is of general type, we prove that the fiberwise singular Kähler-Einstein metric induces a semipositively curved metric on the relative canonical bundle $K_{X/Y}$ of $p$. We also propose a conjectural generalization of this result for relative twisted Kähler-Einstein metrics. Then we show that our conjecture holds true if the Lelong numbers of the twisting current are zero. Finally, we explain the relevance of our conjecture for the study of fiber-wise Song-Tian metrics (which represent the analogue of KE metrics for fiber spaces whose g…
We give a self contained proof using Seiberg Witten invariants that for Kähler surfaces with non negative Kodaira dimension (including those with $p_g = 0$) the canonical class of the minimal model and the $(-1)$-curves, are oriented diffeomorphism invariants up to sign. This implies that the Kodaira dimension is determined by the underlying differentiable manifold (Van de Ven Conjecture). We use a set up that replaces generic metrics by the construction of a localised Euler class of an infinite dimensional bundle with a Fredholm section. This allows us to compute the Seiberg Witten invariants…
It is proved by Kawamata that the canonical bundle of a projective manifold is semi-ample if it is big and nef. We give an analytic proof using the Ricci flow, degeneration of Riemannian manifolds and $L^2$-theory. Combined with our earlier results, we construct unique singular Kahler-Einstein metrics with a global Riemannian structure on canonical models. Our approach can be viewed as the Kodaira embedding theorem on singular metric spaces with canonical Kahler metrics.
A set of canonical parahermitian connections on an almost paraHermitian manifold is defined. ParaHermitian version of the Apostolov-Gauduchon generalization of the Goldberg-Sachs theorem in General Relativity is given. It is proved that the Nijenhuis tensor of a Nearly paraKähler manifolds is parallel with respect to the canonical connection. Salamon's twistor construction on quaternionic manifold is adapted to the paraquaternionic case. A hyper-paracomplex structure is constructed on Kodaira-Thurston (properly elliptic) surfaces as well as on the Inoe surfaces modeled on $Sol^4_1$. A locally …
Let $(M,J)$ be a compact complex manifold of complex dimension $m$ and let $g_s$ be a one-parameter family of Hermitian forms on $M$ that are smooth and positive definite for each fixed $s\in (0,1]$ and that somehow degenerates to a Hermitian pseudometric $h$ for $s$ tending to $0$. In this paper under rather general assumptions on $g_s$ we prove various spectral convergence type theorems for the family of Hodge-Kodaira Laplacians $Δ_{\overline{\partial},m,0,s}$ associated to $g_s$ and acting on the canonical bundle of $M$. In particular we show that, as $s$ tends to zero, the eigenvalues, the…
We prove several formulas related to Hodge theory and the Kodaira-Spencer-Kuranishi deformation theory of Kähler manifolds. As applications, we present a construction of globally convergent power series of integrable Beltrami differentials on Calabi-Yau manifolds and also a construction of global canonical family of holomorphic $(n,0)$-forms on the deformation spaces of Calabi-Yau manifolds. Similar constructions are also applied to the deformation spaces of compact Kähler manifolds.
The classical Beauville-Bogomolov Decomposition Theorem asserts that any compact Kähler manifold with numerically trivial canonical bundle admits an étale cover that decomposes into a product of a torus, and irreducible, simply-connected Calabi-Yau-- and holomorphic-symplectic manifolds. The decomposition of the simply-connected part corresponds to a decomposition of the tangent bundle into a direct sum whose summands are integrable and stable with respect to any polarisation. Building on recent extension theorems for differential forms on singular spaces, we prove an analogous decomposition t…
In the present paper and the companion paper [8] a probabilistic (statistical mechanical) approach to the study of canonical metrics and measures on a complex algebraic variety X is introduced. On any such variety with positive Kodaira dimension a canonical (birationally invariant) random point processes is defined and shown to converge in probability towards a canonical deterministic measure on X, coinciding with the canonical measure of Song-Tian and Tsuji. The proof is based on new large deviation principle for Gibbs measures with singular Hamiltonians which relies on an asymptotic submean …
We study the long-time behavior of the Kahler-Ricci flow on compact Kahler manifolds. We give an almost complete classification of the singularity type of the flow at infinity, depending only on the underlying complex structure. If the manifold is of intermediate Kodaira dimension and has semiample canonical bundle, so that it is fibered by Calabi-Yau varieties, we show that parabolic rescalings around any point on a smooth fiber converge smoothly to a unique limit, which is the product of a Ricci-flat metric on the fiber and of a flat metric on Euclidean space. An analogous result holds for c…
Given a family $f:\mathcal X \to S$ of canonically polarized manifolds, the unique Kähler-Einstein metrics on the fibers induce a hermitian metric on the relative canonical bundle $\mathcal K_{\mathcal X/S}$. We use a global elliptic equation to show that this metric is strictly positive on $\mathcal X$, unless the family is infinitesimally trivial. For degenerating families we show that the curvature form on the total space can be extended as a (semi-)positive closed current. By fiber integration it follows that the generalized Weil-Petersson form on the base possesses an extension as a posit…
It is well known that the Kähler-Ricci flow on a Kähler manifold $X$ admits a long-time solution if and only if $X$ is a minimal model, i.e., the canonical line bundle $K_X$ is nef. The abundance conjecture in algebraic geometry predicts that $K_X$ must be semi-ample when $X$ is a projective minimal model. We prove that if $K_X$ is semi-ample, then the diameter is uniformly bounded for long-time solutions of the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow. Our diameter estimate combined with the scalar curvature estimate in [34] for long-time solutions of the Kähler-Ricci flow are natural extensions of Perel…
