We describe a complete system of invariants for 4-dimensional CR manifolds of CR dimension 1 and codimension 2 with Engel CR distribution by constructing an explicit canonical Cartan connection. We also investigate the relation between the Cartan connection and the normal form of the defining equation of an embedded Engel CR manifold.
A holomorphic Engel structure determines a flag of distributions $\mathcal{W}\subset \mathcal{D}\subset \mathcal{E}$. We construct examples of Engel structures on $\mathbf{C}^4$ such that each of these distributions is hyperbolic in the sense that it has no tangent copies of $\mathbf{C}$. We also construct two infinite families of pairwise non-isomorphic Engel structures on $\mathbf{C}^4$ by controlling the curves $f:\mathbf{C}\to \mathbf{C}^4$ tangent to $\mathcal{W}$. The first is characterised by the topology of the set of points in $\mathbf{C}^4$ admitting $\mathcal{W}$-lines, and the seco…
We study the equivalence problem for $4$-dimensional CR-manifolds of CR-dimension $1$ and codimension $2$ which are referred to as Engel CR-manifolds. We construct a canonical Cartan connection on such CR-manifolds through Cartan equivalence's method. In particular, we give the explicit expression of $4$ biholomorphic invariants, the annulation of which is a necessary and sufficient condition for an Engel manifold to be locally biholomorphic to Beloshapka's cubic in $\mathbb{C}^3$.
Introducing the deformation theory of holomorphic Cartan geometries, we compute infinitesimal automorphisms and infinitesimal deformations. We also prove the existence of a semi-universal deformation of a holomorphic Cartan geometry.
In this continuation of \cite{BDS}, we investigate the deformations of holomorphic Cartan geometries where the underlying complex manifold is allowed to move. The space of infinitesimal deformations of a flat holomorphic Cartan geometry is computed. We show that the natural forgetful map, from the infinitesimal deformations of a flat holomorphic Cartan geometry to the infinitesimal deformations of the underlying flat principal bundle on the topological manifold, is an isomorphism.
Earlier we introduced and studied the concept of holomorphic {\it branched Cartan geometry}. We define here a foliated version of this notion; this is done in terms of Atiyah bundle. We show that any complex compact manifold of algebraic dimension $d$ admits, away from a closed analytic subset of positive codimension, a nonsingular holomorphic foliation of complex codimension $d$ endowed with a transversely flat branched complex projective geometry (equivalently, a ${\mathbb C}P^d$-geometry). We also prove that transversely branched holomorphic Cartan geometries on compact complex projective r…
Let X be a compact connected Kaehler manifold such that the holomorphic tangent bundle TX is numerically effective. A theorem of Demailly, Peternell and Schenider says that there is a finite unramified Galois covering M --> X, a complex torus T, and a holomorphic surjective submersion f: M --> T, such that the fibers of f are Fano manifolds with numerically effective tangent bundle. A conjecture of Campana and Peternell says that the fibers of f are rational and homogeneous. Assume that X admits a holomorphic Cartan geometry. We prove that the fibers of f are rational homogeneous varieties. We…
In this paper, we give some extension of fundamental theorems in Nevanlinna - Cartan theory for holomorphic curve on M punctured complex planes. As an application, we establish a result for uniqueness problem of holomorphic curve by inverse image of a hypersurface, it is improvement of some results before [8, 14] in this trend.
We establish basic results of complex function theory within certain algebras of holomorphic functions on coverings of Stein manifolds (such as algebras of Bohr's holomorphic almost periodic functions on tube domains or algebras of all fibrewise bounded holomorphic functions arising, e.g., in the corona problem for $H^\infty$). In particular, in this context we obtain results on holomorphic extension from complex submanifolds, properties of divisors, corona type theorems, holomorphic analogues of the Peter-Weyl approximation theorem, Hartogs type theorems, characterizations of uniqueness sets,…
We develop complex function theory within certain algebras of holomorphic functions on coverings of Stein manifolds. This, in particular, includes the results on holomorphic extension from complex submanifolds, corona type theorems, properties of divisors, holomorphic analogs of the Peter-Weyl approximation theorem, Hartogs type theorems, characterization of uniqueness sets. The model examples of these algebras are: (1) Bohr's algebra of holomorphic almost periodic functions on tube domains; (2) algebra of all fibrewise bounded holomorphic functions (e.g., arising in the corona problem for $H^…
In this paper, we prove some fundamental theorems for holomorphic curves on angular domain intersecting a hypersurface, finite set of fixed hyperplanes in general position and finite set of fixed hypersurfaces in general position on complex projective variety with the level of truncation. As applications of the second main theorems for an angle, we will discuss the uniqueness problem of holomorphic curves in an angle instead of the whole complex plane. Detail, we establish a result for uniqueness problem of holomorphic curve by inverse image of a hypersurface. In my knowledge, this is the firs…
We pursue the study of holomorphic Cartan geometry with singularities. We introduce the notion of logarithmic Cartan geometry on a complex manifold, with polar part supported on a normal crossing divisor. In particular, we show that the push-forward of a Cartan geometry constructed using a finite Galois ramified covering is a logarithmic Cartan geometry (the polar part is supported on the ramification locus). We also study the specific case of the logarithmic Cartan geometry with the model being the complex affine space.
Cartan-Thullen theorem is a basic one in the theory of analytic functions of several complex variables. It states that for any open set $U$ of ${\mathbb C}^k$, the following conditions are equivalent: (a) $U$ is a domain of existence, (b) $U$ is a domain of holomorphy and (c) $U$ is holomorphically convex. On the other hand, when $f \, (\, =(f_1,f_2,\cdots,f_n)\, )$ is a $\mathbb C^n$-valued function on an open set $U$ of $\mathbb C^{k_1}\times\mathbb C^{k_2}\times\cdots\times\mathbb C^{k_n}$, $f$ is said to be $\mathbb C^n$-analytic, if $f$ is complex analytic and for any $i$ and $j$, $i\not=…
The possibility of reversion of the inequality in the Second Main Theorem of Cartan in the theory of holomorphic curves in projective space is discussed. A new version of this theorem is proved that becomes an asymptotic equality for a class of holomorphic curves defined by solutions of linear differential equations.
We generalize the H. Cartan's theory of holomorphic curves for a general open Riemann surface. Besides, a vanishing theorem for jet differentials and a Bloch's theorem for Riemann surfaces are obtained.
This paper treats a holomorphic self-mapping f: Omega --> Omega of a bounded domain Omega in a separable Hilbert space H with a fixed point p. In case the domain is convex, we prove an infinite-dimensional version of the Cartan-Caratheodory-Kaup-Wu Theorem. This is basically a rigidity result in the vein of the uniqueness part of the classical Schwarz lemma. The main technique, inspired by an old idea of H. Cartan, is iteration of the mapping f and its derivative. A normality result for holomorphic mappings in the compact-weak-open topology, due to Kim and Krantz, is used.
In this paper we study the complete invariant metrics on Cartan-Hartogs domains which are the special types of Hua domains. Firstly, we introduce a class of new complete invariant metrics on these domains, and prove that these metrics are equivalent to the Bergman metric. Secondly, the Ricci curvatures under these new metrics are bounded from above and below by the negative constants. Thirdly, we estimate the holomorphic sectional curvatures of the new metrics, we prove that the holomorphic sectional curvatures are bounded from above and below by the negative constants. Finally, by using these…
Inspired by an article of R. Bryant on holomorphic immersions of unit disks into Lorentzian CR manifolds, we discuss the application of Cartan's method to the question of the existence of bi-disk $\mathbb{D}^{2}$ in a smooth $9$-dimensional real analytic real hypersurface $M^{9}\subset\mathbb{C}^{5}$ with Levi signature $(2,2)$ passing through a fixed point. The result is that the lift to $M^{9}\times U(2)$ of the image of the bi-disk in $M^{9}$ must lie in the zero set of two complex-valued functions in $M^{9}\times U(2)$. We then provide an example where one of the functions does not identic…
Yan and Chen proved a weak Cartan-type second main theorem for holomorphic curves meeting hypersurfaces in projective space that included truncated counting functions. Here we give an explicit estimate for the level of truncation.
In 1983, Nochka proved a conjecture of Cartan on defects of holomorphic curves in CP^n relative to a possibly degenerate set of hyperplanes. In this paper, we generalize the Nochka's theorem to the case of curves in a complex projective variety intersecting hypersurfaces in subgeneral position.
Let $M^3 \subset \mathbb{C}^2$ be a $\mathcal{C}^ω$ Levi nondegenerate hypersurface. In the literature, Cartan-Moser chains are detected from rather advanced considerations: either from the construction of a Cartan connection associated with the CR equivalence problem; or from the construction of a formal or converging Poincaré-Moser normal form. This note provides an alternative direct elementary construction, based on the inspection of the Lie prolongations of $5$ infinitesimal holomorphic automorphisms to the space of second order jets of CR-transversal curves. Within the $4$-dimensional je…
By means of $C^\infty$-connections we will prove a general second main theorem and some special ones for holomorphic curves. The method gives a geometric proof of H. Cartan's second main theorem in 1933. By applying the same method, we will prove some second main theorems in the case of the product space $(\pone)^2$ of the Riemann sphere.
The explicit complete Einstein-Kähler metric on the second type Cartan-Hartogs domain $Y_{II}(r,p;K)$ is obtained in this paper when the parameter $K$ equals $\frac p2+\frac 1{p+1}$. The estimate of holomorphic sectional curvature under this metric is also given which intervenes between $-2K$ and $-\frac{2K}p$ and it is a sharp estimate. In the meantime we also prove that the complete Einstein-Kähler metric is equivalent to the Bergman metric on $Y_{II}(r,p;K)$ when $K=\frac p2+\frac 1{p+1}$.
We consider a commutative family of holomorphic vector fields in an neighbourhood of a common singular point, say $0\in \Bbb C^n$. Let $\lie g$ be a commutative complex Lie algebra of dimension $l$. Let $λ_1,...,λ_n\in \lie g^*$ and let us set $S(g)=\sum_{i=1}^nλ_i(g)x_i\frac{\partial}{\partial x_i}$. We assume that this Lie morphism is {\bf diophantine} in the sense that a diophantine condition $(ω(S))$ is satisfied. Let $X_1$ be a holomorphic vector field in a neighbourhood of $0\in \Bbb C^n$. We assume that its linear part $s$ is regular relatively to $S$, that is belongs to $S(\lie g)$ and…
The Cartan-Hartogs domains are defined as a class of Hartogs type domains over irreducible bounded symmetric domains. The purpose of this paper is twofold. Firstly, for a Cartan-Hartogs domain $Ω^{B^{d_0}}(μ)$ endowed with the canonical metric $g(μ)$, we obtain an explicit formula for the Bergman kernel of the weighted Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}_α$ of square integrable holomorphic functions on $(Ω^{B^{d_0}}(μ), g(μ))$ with the weight $\exp\{-αφ\}$ (where $φ$ is a globally defined Kähler potential for $g(μ)$) for $α>0$, and, furthermore, we give an explicit expression of the Rawnsley's $\vareps…
If f: C -> P^n is a holomorphic curve of hyper-order less than one for which 2n + 1 hyperplanes in general position have forward invariant preimages with respect to the translation t(z)=z+c, then f is periodic with period c. This result, which can be described as a difference analogue of M. Green's Picard-type theorem for holomorphic curves, follows from a more general result presented in this paper. The proof relies on a new version of Cartan's second main theorem for the Casorati determinant and an extended version of the difference analogue of the lemma on the logarithmic derivatives, both …
Nirenberg and Spencer posed the question whether the germ of a compact complex submanifold in a complex manifold is determined by its infinitesimal neighborhood of finite order when the normal bundle is sufficiently positive. To study the problem for a larger class of submanifolds, including free rational curves, we reformulate the question in the setting of families of submanifolds and their infinitesimal neighborhoods. When the submanifolds have no nonzero vector fields, we prove that it is sufficient to consider only first-order neighborhoods to have an affirmative answer to the reformulate…
We describe the basic cohomology ring of the canonical holomorphic foliation on a moment-angle manifold, LVMB-manifold or any complex manifold with a maximal holomorphic torus action. Namely, we show that the basic cohomology has a description similar to the cohomology ring of a complete simplicial toric variety due to Danilov and Jurkiewicz. This settles a question of Battaglia and Zaffran, who previously computed the basic Betti numbers for the canonical holomorphic foliation in the case of a shellable fan. Our proof uses an Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence argument; the key ingredient is t…
We describe some results of value distribution theory of holomorphic curves and quasiregular maps, which are obtained using potential theory. Among the results discussed are: extensions of Picard's theorems to quasiregular maps between Riemannian manifolds, a version of the Second Main Theorem of Nevanlinna for curves in projective space and non-linear divisors, description of extremal functions in Nevanlinna theory and results related to Cartan's 1928 conjecture on holomorphic curves in the unit disc omitting hyperplanes.
Let D be a relatively compact strongly pseudoconvex domain in a Stein manifold, and let Y be a complex manifold. We prove that the set A(D,Y), consisting of all continuous maps from the closure of D to Y which are holomorphic in D, is a complex Banach manifold. When D is the unit disc in C (or any other topologically trivial strongly pseudoconvex domain in a Stein manifold), A(D,Y) is locally modeled on the Banach space A(D,C^n)=A(D)^n with n=dim Y. Analogous results hold for maps which are holomorphic in D and of class C^r up to the boundary for any positive integer r. We also establish the O…
