We put into light some generalized almost quaternionic and almost para-quaternionic structures and characterize their integrability with respect to a $\nabla$-bracket on the generalized tangent bundle $TM\oplus T^*M$ of a smooth manifold $M$, defined by an affine connection $\nabla$ on $M$. Also, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for these structures to be $\hat \nabla$-parallel and $\hat \nabla^*$-parallel, where $\hat \nabla$ is an affine connection on $TM\oplus T^*M$ induced by $\nabla$, and $\hat\nabla^*$ is its generalized dual connection with respect to a bilinear form $\check h$ on $TM\oplus T^*M$ induced by a non-degenerate symmetric or skew-symmetric $(0,2)$-tensor field $h$ on $M$. As main results, we establish the existence of a canonical connection associated to a generalized quaternionic and to a generalized para-quaternionic structure, i.e., a torsion-free generalized affine connection that parallelizes these structures. We show that, in the quaternionic case, the canonical connection is the generalized Obata connection and that on a quasi-statistical manifold $(M,h,\nabla)$, an integrable $h$-symmetric and $\nabla$-parallel $(1,1)$-tensor field gives rise to a generalized para-quaternionic structure whose canonical connection is precisely $\hat \nabla^*$. Finally we prove that the generalized affine connection that parallelizes certain families of generalized almost complex and almost product structures is preserved.
Almost para-quaternionic structures on smooth manifolds of dimension $2n$ are equivalent to almost Grassmannian structures of type $(2,n)$. We remind the equivalence and exhibit some interrelations between subjects that were previously studied independently from the para-quaternionic and the Grassmannian point of view. In particular, we relate the respective normalization conditions, distinguished curves and twistor constructions.
Following the Cartans's original method of equivalence supported by methods of parabolic geometry, we provide a complete solution for the equivalence problem of quaternionic contact structures, that is, the problem of finding a complete system of differential invariants for two quaternionic contact manifolds to be locally diffeomorphic. This includes an explicit construction of the corresponding Cartan geometry and detailed information on all curvature components.
We generalise the hyper-Kahler/quaternionic Kahler (HK/QK) correspondence to include para-geometries, and present a new concise proof that the target manifold of the HK/QK correspondence is quaternionic Kahler. As an application, we construct one-parameter deformations of the temporal and Euclidean supergravity c-map metrics and show that they are para-quaternionic Kahler.
We show that $3$-Sasaki structures admit a natural description in terms of projective differential geometry. This description provides a concrete link between $3$-Sasaki structures and several other geometries and constructions via a single unifying picture. First we establish that a $3$-Sasaki structure may be understood as a projective structure equipped with a certain holonomy reduction to the (possibly indefinite) unitary quaternionic group $\textrm{Sp}(p,q)$, namely a parallel hyperkähler structure on the projective tractor bundle satisfying a particular genericity condition. For the conv…
We investigate an obstruction for hypersymplectic manifolds equipped with a free, isometric action of SU(1,1). When the obstruction vanishes, we show that the manifold is a metric cone over a split 3-Sasakian manifold. Furthermore, if the action of SU(1,1) is also proper, then the hypersymplectic manifold fibres over a para-quaternionic Kahler manifold. We conclude the article with some examples for which the obstruction vanishes. In particular, we show that the moduli space to Nahm-Schmid equations admits a fibration over a para-quaternionic Kahler manifold.
We consider timelike and spacelike reductions of 4D, N = 2 Minkowskian and Euclidean vector multiplets coupled to supergravity and the maps induced on the scalar geometry. In particular, we investigate (i) the (standard) spatial c-map, (ii) the temporal c-map, which corresponds to the reduction of the Minkowskian theory over time, and (iii) the Euclidean c-map, which corresponds to the reduction of the Euclidean theory over space. In the last two cases we prove that the target manifold is para-quaternionic Kahler. In cases (i) and (ii) we construct two integrable complex structures on the targ…
