We consider timelike and spacelike reductions of 4D, N = 2 Minkowskian and Euclidean vector multiplets coupled to supergravity and the maps induced on the scalar geometry. In particular, we investigate (i) the (standard) spatial c-map, (ii) the temporal c-map, which corresponds to the reduction of the Minkowskian theory over time, and (iii) the Euclidean c-map, which corresponds to the reduction of the Euclidean theory over space. In the last two cases we prove that the target manifold is para-quaternionic Kahler.
In cases (i) and (ii) we construct two integrable complex structures on the target manifold, one of which belongs to the quaternionic and para-quaternionic structure, respectively. In case (iii) we construct two integrable para-complex structures, one of which belongs to the para-quaternionic structure.
In addition we provide a new global construction of the spatial, temporal and Euclidean c-maps, and separately consider a description of the target manifold as a fibre bundle over a projective special Kahler or para-Kahler base.
Supersymmetric instanton solutions in four dimensional Euclidean ungauged Einstein-Maxwell theory are analysed and classified according to the fraction of supersymmetry they preserve, using spinorial geometry techniques.
We construct the general action for Abelian vector multiplets in rigid 4-dimensional Euclidean (instead of Minkowskian) N=2 supersymmetry, i.e., over space-times with a positive definite instead of a Lorentzian metric. The target manifolds for the scalar fields turn out to be para-complex manifolds endowed with a particular kind of special geometry, which we call affine special para-Kahler geometry. We give a precise definition and develop the mathematical theory of such manifolds. The relation to the affine special Kahler manifolds appearing in Minkowskian N=2 supersymmetry is discussed. Star…
We discuss the reality properties of the fermionic collective coordinates in Euclidean space in an instanton background and construct hermitean actions for N = 4 and N = 2 supersymmetric Euclidean Yang-Mills theories.
We obtain a continuous Wick rotation for Dirac, Majorana and Weyl spinors $ψ\to \exp ({1\over 2} θγ^4 γ^5)ψ$ which interpolates between Minkowski and Euclidean field theories.
The simplest supersymmetry algebra and superspace in three dimensional Euclidean (3dE) space is examined. Representations of the algebra are considered and the implications of restricting the space of states to states with positive definite norm are determined. A superspace is defined and superfields are introduced. Supersymmetric field theory models in 3dE are described both in superfield and component field forms. The relationship between these models, and similar models in four dimensional Minkowski space is described.
We discuss two dimensional N-extended supersymmetry in Euclidean signature and its R-symmetry. For N=2, the R-symmetry is SO(2)\times SO(1,1), so that only an A-twist is possible. To formulate a B-twist, or to construct Euclidean N=2 models with H-flux so that the target geometry is generalised Kahler, it is necessary to work with a complexification of the sigma models. These issues are related to the obstructions to the existence of non-trivial twisted chiral superfields in Euclidean superspace.
We review recent developments in special geometry and explain its role in the theory of supersymmetric black holes. To make this article self-contained, a short introduction to black holes is given, with emphasis on the laws of black hole mechanics and black hole entropy. We also summarize the existing results on the para-complex version of special geometry, which occurs in Euclidean supersymmetry. The role of real coordinates in special geometry is illustrated, and we briefly indicate how Euclidean supersymmetry can be used to study stationary black hole solutions via dimensional reduction ov…
We construct and check by explicit Feynman diagram calculations the BRST Ward identities for N=2 rigid super Yang-Mills theory and N=2 extended supergravity in four-dimensional Euclidean space without auxiliary fields. We use the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism. In the supergravity case we need one new contractible pair of complex spinor fields to obtain the usual gauge-fixing term and corresponding Nielsen-Kallosh ghosts.
We construct two new versions of the c-map which allow us to obtain the target manifolds of hypermultiplets in Euclidean theories with rigid N =2 supersymmetry. While the Minkowskian para-c-map is obtained by dimensional reduction of the Minkowskian vector multiplet lagrangian over time, the Euclidean para-c-map corresponds to the dimensional reduction of the Euclidean vector multiplet lagrangian. In both cases the resulting hypermultiplet target spaces are para-hyper-Kahler manifolds. We review and prove the relevant results of para-complex and para-hypercomplex geometry. In particular, we gi…
We formulate Euclidean spacetime lattices whose continuum limits are supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories with eight supercharges in two and three dimensions. The lattice actions are themselves supersymmetric.
We formulate a Euclidean spacetime lattice whose continuum limit is (2,2) supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in two dimensions, a theory which possesses four supercharges and an anomalous global chiral symmetry. The lattice action respects one exact supersymmetry, which allows the target theory to emerge in the continuum limit without fine-tuning. Our method exploits an orbifold construction described previously for spatial lattices in Minkowski space, and can be generalized to more complicated theories with additional supersymmetry and more spacetime dimensions.
Theories with axionic scalars admit three different Euclidean formulations, obtained by Wick rotation, Wick rotation combined with analytic continuation of the axionic scalars, and Wick rotation combined with Hodge dualization. We investigate the relation between these formulations for a class of theories which contains the sigma models of N=2 vector multiplets as a special case. It is shown that semi-classical amplitudes can be expressed equivalently using the two types of axionic actions, while the Hodge dualized version gives a different value for the instanton action unless the integration…
The global supersymmetry is spontaneously broken if and only if the ground-state energy is strictly positive. We propose to use this fact to observe the spontaneous supersymmetry breaking in euclidean lattice simulations. For lattice formulations that possess a manifest fermionic symmetry, there exists a natural choice of a hamiltonian operator that is consistent with a topological property of the Witten index. We confirm validity of our idea in models of the supersymmetric quantum mechanics. We then examine a possibility of a dynamical supersymmetry breaking in the two-dimensional $\mathcal{N…
We present the class of deformations of simple Euclidean superalgebra, which describe the supersymmetrization of some Lie algebraic noncommutativity of D=4 Euclidean space-time. The presented deformations are generated by the supertwists. We provide new explicit formulae for a chosen twisted D=4 Euclidean Hopf superalgebra and describe the corresponding quantum covariant deformation of chiral Euclidean superspace.
The simplest supersymmetry (SUSY) algebra in four dimensional Euclidean space ($4dE$) has been shown to closely resemble the $N = 2$ SUSY algebra in four dimensional Minkowski space ($4dM$). The structure of the former algebra is examined in greater detail in this paper. We first present its Clifford algebra structure. This algebra shows that the momentum Casimir invariant of physical states has an upper bound which is fixed by the central charges. Secondly, we use reduction of the $N = 1$ SUSY algebra in six dimensional Minkowski space ($6dM$) to $4dE$; this reproduces our SUSY algebra in $4d…
Working to lowest non-trivial order in fermions, we consider the four-derivative order corrected Lagrangian and supersymmetry transformations of the Euclidean Bagger-Lambert-Gustavsson theory. By demonstrating supersymmetric invariance of the Lagrangian we determine all numerical coefficients in the system. In addition, the supersymmetry algebra is shown to close on the scalar and gauge fields. We also comment on the extension to Lorentzian and other non-Euclidean $\mathcal{N}=8$ 3-algebra theories.
We classify super-symmetric solutions of the minimal $N=2$ gauged Euclidean supergravity in four dimensions. The solutions with anti-self-dual Maxwell field give rise to anti-self-dual Einstein metrics given in terms of solutions to the $SU(\infty)$ Toda equation and more general three-dimensional Einstein--Weyl structures. Euclidean Kastor--Traschen metrics are also characterised by the existence of a certain super covariantly constant spinor.
We construct new supersymmetric solutions to the Euclidean Einstein-Maxwell theory with a non-vanishing cosmological constant, and for which the Maxwell field strength is neither self-dual or anti-self-dual. We find that there are three classes of solutions, depending on the sign of the Maxwell field strength and cosmological constant terms in the Einstein equations which arise from the integrability conditions of the Killing spinor equation. The first class is a Euclidean version of a Lorentzian supersymmetric solution found in arXiv:0804.0009, hep-th/0406238 . The second class is constructed…
A strict positivity of the ground-state energy is a necessary and sufficient condition for spontaneous supersymmetry breaking. This ground-state energy may be directly determined from the expectation value of the Hamiltonian in the functional integral, defined with an \emph{antiperiodic} temporal boundary condition for all fermionic variables. We propose to use this fact to observe the dynamical spontaneous supersymmetry breaking in Euclidean lattice simulations. If a lattice formulation possesses a manifestly preserved fermionic symmetry, there exists a natural choice of a Hamiltonian operato…
We show how to lift solutions of Euclidean Einstein-Maxwell equations with non-zero cosmological constant to solutions of eleven-dimensional supergravity theory with non-zero fluxes. This yields a class of 11D metrics given in terms of solutions to $SU(\infty)$ Toda equation. We give one example of a regular solution and analyse its supersymmetry. We also analyse the integrability conditions of the Killing spinor equations of N=2 minimal gauged supergravity in four Euclidean dimensions. We obtain necessary conditions for the existence of additional Killing spinors, corresponding to enhancement…
We define and study projective special para-Kahler manifolds and show that they appear as target manifolds when reducing five-dimensional vector multiplets coupled to supergravity with respect to time. The dimensional reductions with respect to time and space are carried out in a uniform way using an epsilon-complex notation. We explain the relation of our formalism to other formalisms of special geometry used in the literature. In the second part of the paper we investigate instanton solutions and their dimensional lifting to black holes. We show that the instanton action, which can be define…
We investigate the target space geometry of supersymmetric sigma models in two dimensions with Euclidean signature, and the conditions for N=2 supersymmetry. For a real action, the geometry for the N=2 model is not the generalized Kahler geometry that arises for Lorentzian signature, but is an interesting modification of this which is not a complex geometry.
An N=1/2 supergravity in four Euclidean spacetime dimensions, coupled to both vector- and scalar-multiplet matter, is constructed for the first time. We begin with the standard (1,1) conformally extended supergravity in four Euclidean dimensions, and freeze out the graviphoton field strength to an arbitrary (fixed) self-dual field (the so-called C-deformation). Though a consistency of such procedure with local supersymmetry is not guaranteed, we find a simple consistent set of algebraic constraints that reduce the local supersymmetry by 3/4 and eliminate the corresponding gravitini. The final …
We consider superconformal and supersymmetric field theories on four-dimensional Lorentzian curved space-times, and their five-dimensional holographic duals. As in the Euclidean signature case, preserved supersymmetry for a superconformal theory is equivalent to the existence of a charged conformal Killing spinor. Differently from the Euclidean case, we show that the existence of such spinors is equivalent to the existence of a null conformal Killing vector. For a supersymmetric field theory with an R-symmetry, this vector field is further restricted to be Killing. We demonstrate how these res…
We propose methods towards a systematic determination of d dimensional curved spaces where Euclidean field theories with rigid supersymmetry can be defined. The analysis is carried out from a group theory as well as from a supergravity point of view. In particular, by using appropriate gauged supergravities in various dimensions we show that supersymmetry can be defined in conformally flat spaces, such as non-compact hyperboloids $H^{n+1}$ and compact spheres $S^n$ or --by turning on appropriate Wilson lines corresponding to R-symmetry vector fields-- on $S^1 x S^n$, with n<6. By group theory …
We investigate the relation between supersymmetry and geometry for two dimensional sigma models with target spaces of arbitrary signature, and Lorentzian or Euclidean world-sheets. In particular, we consider twisted forms of the two-dimensional $(p,q)$ supersymmetry algebra. Superspace formulations of the $(p,q)$ heterotic sigma-models with twisted or untwisted supersymmetry are given. For the twisted (2,1) and the pseudo-Kähler sigma models, we give extended superspace formulations.
We review coupled ${\rm SU}(3)$-structures, also known in the literature as restricted half-flat structures, in relation to supersymmetry. In particular, we study special classes of examples admitting such structures and the behaviour of flows of ${\rm SU}(3)$-structures with respect to the coupled condition.
We obtain the complete superconformal symmetry transformations on the worldvolume of a D3-brane in an $AdS_5\times S^5$ background by using a coset superspace approach. We show that in the large $R$-limit we recover all supersymmetries present on the worldvolume of a D3-brane in a Minkowski background, in particular the Volkov-Akulov supersymmetry. We conclude with a proposal for a scheme to construct higher derivative invariants in $D=4$, $\mathcal{N}=4$ settings.
For all types of N=4 anti-de Sitter (AdS) supersymmetry in three dimensions, we construct manifestly supersymmetric actions for Abelian vector multiplets and explain how to extend the construction to the non-Abelian case. Manifestly N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) actions are explicitly given in the cases of (2,2) and critical (4,0) AdS supersymmetries. The N=4 vector multiplets and the corresponding actions are then reduced to (2,0) AdS superspace, in which only N=2 supersymmetry is manifest. Using the off-shell structure of the N=4 vector multiplets, we provide complete N=4 SYM actions i…
We examine the N=2 Wess-Zumino model defined on the $d=2$ Euclidean lattice in connection with a restoration of the Leibniz rule in the limit $a\to0$ in perturbatively finite theory. We are interested in the difference between the Wilson and Ginsparg-Wilson fermions and in the effects of extra interactions introduced by an analysis of Nicolai mapping. As for the Wilson fermion, it induces a linear divergence to individual tadpole diagrams in the limit $a\to0$, which is absent in the Ginsparg-Wilson fermion. This divergence suggests that a careful choice of lattice regularization is required in…
We study Euclidean D=4, N=4 gauged $SU(2) \times SU(1,1)$ supergravity theory which has been obtained from dimensional reduction of N=1, D=10 supergravity on $S^3 \times AdS_3$. We obtain supersymmetric configurations like domain wall, electro-vac type of solutions with geometries $E^2 \times S^2$, $E^2 \times AdS_2$ and axio-vac type $E^1 \times S^3$ solution in this Euclidean Freedman-Schwarz (EFS) model. We also show that the Euclidean gravitational instantons with nontrivial (anti)self-dual U(1) gauge fields are stable vacua preserving one fourth of the original supersymmetry.
We examine domain wall solutions of N=1, D=4 supergravity which preserve half of the supersymmetry and arise from Euclidean M2-brane instantons on M5-branes wrapping associative 3-cycles of G_2 holonomy manifolds. We also investigate composite solutions which break an additional half of the supersymmetry.
We study a planar model of a non-relativistic electron in periodic magnetic and electric fields that produce a 1D crystal for two spin components separated by a half-period spacing. We fit the fields to create a self-isospectral pair of finite-gap associated Lame equations shifted for a half-period, and show that the system obtained is characterized by a new type of supersymmetry. It is a special nonlinear supersymmetry generated by three commuting integrals of motion, related to the parity-odd operator of the associated Lax pair, that coherently reflects the band structure and all its peculia…
We review an approach for computing non-perturbative, exact superpotentials for Type II strings compactified on Calabi-Yau manifolds, with extra fluxes and D-branes on top. The method is based on an open string generalization of mirror symmetry, and takes care of the relevant sphere and disk instanton contributions. We formulate a framework based on relative (co)homology that uniformly treats the flux and brane sectors on a similar footing. However, one important difference is that the brane induced potentials are of much larger functional diversity than the flux induced ones, which have a hid…
We describe special supersymmetric gauge theories in three, five, seven and nine dimensions, whose compactification on two-, four-, six- and eight-folds produces a supersymmetric quantum mechanics on moduli spaces of holomorphic bundles and/or solutions to the analogues of instanton equations in higher dimensions. The theories may occur on the worldvolumes of D-branes wrapping manifolds of special holonomy. We also discuss the theories with matter.
Euclidean special geometry has recently been investigated in the context of Euclidean supersymmetric theories with vector multiplets. In the rigid case, the scalar manifold is described by affine special para-Kahler geometry while the target geometries of Euclidean vector multiplets coupled to supergravity are given by projective special para-Kahler manifolds. In this letter, we derive the Killing spinor equations of Euclidean N=2 supergravity theories coupled to vector multiplets. These equations provide the starting point for finding general supersymmetric instanton solutions.
Euclidean supersymmetric theories are obtained from Minkowskian theories by performing a reduction in the time direction. This procedure elucidates certain mysterious features of Zumino's N=2 model in four dimensions, provides manifestly hermitian Euclidean counterparts of all non-mimimal SYM theories, and is also applicable to supergravity theories. We reanalyse the twists of the 4d N=2 and N=4 models from this point of view. Other applications include SYM theories on special holonomy manifolds. In particular, we construct a twisted SYM theory on Kaehler 3-folds and clarify the structure of S…

This review is devoted to some aspects of non-linear Supersymmetry in four dimensions that can be efficiently described via nilpotent superfields, in both rigid and curved Superspace. Our focus is mainly on the partial breaking of rigid $N=2$ Supersymmetry and on a class of generalized Born-Infeld systems that originate from Special Geometry and on some prototype cosmological models, starting from the Supergravity embedding of Starobinsky inflation. However, as an aside we also review briefly some interesting two-field extensions of the Born-Infeld Lagrangian whose field equations enjoy extend…
An introduction to $N=2$ rigid and local supersymmetry is given. The construction of the actions of vector multiplets is reviewed, defining special Kähler manifolds. Symplectic transformations lead to either isometries or symplectic reparametrizations. Writing down a symplectic formulation of special geometry clarifies the relation to the moduli spaces of a Riemann surface or a Calabi-Yau 3-fold. The scheme for obtaining perturbative and non-perturbative corrections to a supersymmetry model is explained. The Seiberg-Witten model is reviewed as an example of the identification of duality symmet…
We study Euclidean lattice formulations of non-gauge supersymmetric models with up to four supercharges in various dimensions. We formulate the conditions under which the interacting lattice theory can exactly preserve one or more nilpotent anticommuting supersymmetries. We introduce a superfield formalism, which allows the enumeration of all possible lattice supersymmetry invariants. We use it to discuss the formulation of Q-exact lattice actions and their renormalization in a general manner. In some examples, one exact supersymmetry guarantees finiteness of the continuum limit of the lattice…
We study a special classical current in the O(3) Gross-Neveu model that becomes supersymmetric when quantum anomalies are included. Following its definition, we generalize the current for the general case, the O(N) Gross-Neveu models. We compute its algebra and discuss the possibility of supersymmetry can be established for these models.
We give an intrinsic definition of the special geometry which arises in global N=2 supersymmetry in four dimensions. The base of an algebraic integrable system exhibits this geometry, and with an integrality hypothesis any special Kahler manifold is so related to an integrable system. The cotangent bundle of a special Kahler manifold carries a hyperkahler metric. We also define special geometry in supergravity in terms of the special geometry in global supersymmetry.
The R^4-type corrections to ten and eleven dimensional supergravity required by string and M-theory imply corrections to supersymmetric supergravity compactifications on manifolds of special holonomy, which deform the metric away from the original holonomy. Nevertheless, in many such cases, including Calabi-Yau compactifications of string theory and G_2-compactifications of M-theory, it has been shown that the deformation preserves supersymmetry because of associated corrections to the supersymmetry transformation rules, Here, we consider Spin(7) compactifications in string theory and M-theory…
We start developing a formalism which allows to construct supersymmetric theories systematically across space-time signatures. Our construction uses a complex form of the supersymmetry algebra, which is obtained by doubling the spinor representation. This allows one to partially disentangle the Lorentz and R-symmetry group and generalizes symplectic Majorana spinors. For the case where the spinor representation is complex-irreducible, the R-symmetry only acts on an internal multiplicity space, and we show that the connected groups which occur are SO(2), SO(1,1), SU(2) and SU(1,1). As an applic…
We study the quantization of a holomorphic two-form coupled to a Yang-Mills field on special manifolds in various dimensions, and we show that it yields twisted supersymmetric theories. The construction determines ATQFT's (Almost Topological Quantum Field Theories), that is, theories with observables that are invariant under changes of metrics belonging to restricted classes. For Kahler manifolds in four dimensions, our topological model is related to N=1 Super Yang-Mills theory. Extended supersymmetries are recovered by considering the coupling with chiral multiplets. We also analyse Calabi-Y…
We introduce a class of potential submanifolds in pseudo-Euclidean spaces (each N-dimensional potential submanifold is a special flat torsionless submanifold in a 2N-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean space) and prove that each N-dimensional Frobenius manifold can be locally represented as an N-dimensional potential submanifold. We show that all potential submanifolds bear natural special structures of Frobenius algebras on their tangent spaces. These special Frobenius structures are generated by the corresponding flat first fundamental form and the set of the second fundamental forms of the submani…
The induced two-dimensional topological N=1 supersymmetric sigma model on a differential Poisson manifold M presented in arXiv:1503.05625 is shown to be a special case of the induced Poisson sigma model on the bi-graded supermanifold T[0,1]M. The bi-degree comprises the standard N-valued target space degree, corresponding to the form degree on the worldsheet, and an additional Z-valued fermion number, corresponding to the degree in the differential graded algebra of forms on M. The N=1 supersymmetry stems from the compatibility between the (extended) differential Poisson bracket and the de Rha…
We revisit the work by Volkov and Soroka on spontaneously broken local supersymmetry. It is demonstrated for the first time that, for specially chosen parameters of the theory, the Volkov-Soroka action is invariant under two different local supersymmetries. One of them is present for arbitrary values of the parameters and acts on the Goldstino, while the other supersymmetry emerges only in a special case and leaves the Goldstino invariant. The former can be used to gauge away the Goldstino, and then the resulting action coincides with that proposed by Deser and Zumino for consistent supergravi…
Relying upon the division-algebra classification of Clifford algebras and spinors, a classification of generalized supersymmetries (or, with a slight abuse of language,"generalized supertranslations") is provided. In each given space-time the maximal, saturated, generalized supersymmetry, compatible with the division-algebra constraint that can be consistently imposed on spinors and on superalgebra generators, is furnished. Constraining the superalgebra generators in both the complex and the quaternionic cases gives rise to the two classes of constrained hermitian and holomorphic generalized s…
The scalars in vector multiplets of N=2 supersymmetric theories in 4 dimensions exhibit `special Kaehler geometry', related to duality symmetries, due to their coupling to the vectors. In the literature there is some confusion on the definition of special geometry. We show equivalences of some definitions and give examples which show that earlier definitions are not equivalent, and are not sufficient to restrict the Kaehler metric to one that occurs in N=2 supersymmetry. We treat the rigid as well as the local supersymmetry case. The connection is made to moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces and …
We construct non-Abelian N=2 on-shell vector multiplets in five and in four dimensions. Closing of the supersymmetry algebra imposes dynamical constraints on the fields, and these constraints should be interpreted as equations of motion. If these field equations should not be derivable from an action, we find that supersymmetry allows a broader class of target-space geometries than the familiar rigid (very) special manifolds. These theories moreover have more general potentials due to the possibility of including Fayet-Iliopoulos terms in the non-Abelian case. We show that by introducing an ac…
We give a detailed analysis of pairs of vector and hypermultiplet theories with N=2 supersymmetry in four spacetime dimensions that are related by the (classical) mirror map. The symplectic reparametrizations of the special Kähler space associated with the vector multiplets induce corresponding transformations on the hypermultiplets. We construct the Sp(1)$\times$Sp($n$) one-forms in terms of which the hypermultiplet couplings are encoded and exhibit their behaviour under symplectic reparametrizations. Both vector and hypermultiplet theories allow vectorial central charges in the supersymmetry…
Supersymmetric solutions of supergravity theories, and consequently metrics with special holonomy, have played an important role in the development of string theory. We describe how a Lorentzian manifold is either completely reducible, and thus essentially known, or not completely reducible so that there exists a degenerate holonomy invariant lightlike subspace and consequently admits a covariantly constant or a recurrent null vector and belongs to the higher-dimensional Kundt class of spacetimes. These Kundt spacetimes (which contain the vanishing and constant curvature invariant spacetimes a…
We conduct a study of holographic RG flows whose UV is a theory in 2+1 dimensions decoupled from gravity, and the IR is the N=6,8 superconformal fixed point of ABJM. The solutions we consider are constructed by warping the M-theory background whose eight spatial dimensions are manifolds of special holonomies sp(1) times sp(1) and spin(7). Our main example for the spin(7) holonomy manifold is the A8 geometry originally constructed by Cvetic, Gibbons, Lu, and Pope. On the gravity side, our constructions generalize the earlier construction of RG flow where the UV was N=3 Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons m…
Special Kahler manifolds are defined by coupling of vector multiplets to $N=2$ supergravity. The coupling in rigid supersymmetry exhibits similar features. These models contain $n$ vectors in rigid supersymmetry and $n+1$ in supergravity, and $n$ complex scalars. Apart from exceptional cases they are defined by a holomorphic function of the scalars. For supergravity this function is homogeneous of second degree in an $(n+1)$-dimensional projective space. Another formulation exists which does not start from this function, but from a symplectic $(2n)$- or $(2n+2)$-dimensional complex space. Symp…
We derive the conditions for unbroken supersymmetry for a Mink_2, (2,0) vacuum, arising from Type II supergravity on a compact eight-dimensional manifold M_8. When specialized to internal manifolds enjoying SU(4)xSU(4) structure the resulting system is elegantly rewritten in terms of generalized complex geometry. This particular class of vacua violates the correspondence between supersymmetry conditions and calibrations conditions of D branes (supersymmetry-calibrations correspondence). Our analysis includes and extends previous results about the failure of the supersymmetry-calibrations corre…
