Given a Kaehlerian holomorphic fiber bundle whose fiber is a compact homogeneous Kaehler manifold, we describe the perturbed Hermitian-Einstein equations relative to certain holomorphic vector bundles. With respect to special metrics on the holomorphic bundles, there is a dimensional reduction procedure which reduces these equations to a system of equations on the base, known as the twisted coupled vortex equations.
We describe and construct here pseudo-Hermitian structures $θ$ without torsion (i.e. with transversal symmetry) whose Webster-Ricci curvature tensor is a constant multiple of the exterior differential $dθ$. We call these structures pseudo-Hermitian Einstein and our result states that they all can be derived locally from K{ä}hler-Einstein metrics. Moreover, we discuss the corresponding Fefferman metrics of the pseudo-Hermitian Einstein structures. These Fefferman metrics are never Einstein, but they are locally always conformally Einstein.
In this paper, we show that, for every Hermitian vector bundle over a compact Kaehler Einstein manifold, if the projection is biharmonic, then it is harmonic.
In this paper, using Donaldson's heat flow, we show that the semi-stability of a Higgs bundle over a compact Kähler manifold implies the existence of approximate Hermitian-Einstein structure on the Higgs bundle.
In this article we focus on multiplier Hermitian-Einstein metrics introduced by Mabuchi which include Kähler-Einstein metrics, Kähler-Ricci solitons and Mabuchi solitons as special cases. We also focus on KSM-manifolds, which are introduced by the first author as toric bundles, to establish a criterion for the existence of multiplier Hermitian-Einstein metrics in terms of KSM-data. An explicit example for a KSM-manifold admitting a family of multiplier Hermitian-Einstein metrics is constructed by using a continuous path connecting a Kähler-Ricci soliton and a Mabuchi soliton.
We prove that a simpy connected Hermitian Einstein 4-manifold with non-negative sectional curvature is isometric to complex projective space $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^{2}$ with the Fubini-Study metric or isometric to the product $\mathbb{S}^{2}\times \mathbb{S}^{2}$ with the canonical metric.
Let (M,h) be a compact 4-dimensional Einstein manifold, and suppose that h is Hermitian with respect to some complex structure J on M. Then either (M,J,h) is Kaehler-Einstein, or else, up to rescaling and isometry, it is one of the following two exceptions: the Page metric on CP2 # (-CP2), or the Einstein metric on CP2 # 2 (-CP2) constructed in Chen-LeBrun-Weber.
In this paper we will prove that the only compact 4-manifold M with an Einstein metric of positive sectional curvature which is also hermitian with respect to some complex structure on M, is the complex projective plane CP^2, with its Fubini-Study metric.
We provide a local classification of self-dual Einstein Riemannian four manifolds admitting a positively oriented Hermitian structure and characterize those which carry a hyperhermitian, non-hyperkählerian structure compatible with the negative orientation. We finally show that self-dual Einstein 4-manifolds obtained as quaternionic quotients of the Wolf spaces ${\mathbb H}P^2$, ${\mathbb H}H^2$, $SU(4)/S(U(2)U(2))$, and $SU(2,2)/S(U(2)U(2))$ are always Hermitian.
Let $X$ be a compact Kähler manifold, $E\to X$ a Hermitian vector bundle and $L\to X$ an ample line bundle. We construct a non-linear heat flow corresponding to the almost Hermitian-Einstein equation introduced by N.C. Leung, and prove that the solution exists for a short time. We also construct a potential function $D_k$ for this flow. In particular, $D_k$ decreases along the flow.
We introduce some generalizations of the Hermitian-Einstein equation for diagonal harmonic metrics on cyclic Higgs bundles, including a generalization using subharmonic functions. When the coefficients are all smooth, we prove the existence, uniqueness, and convergence of the solution of their heat equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We also generalize two inequality estimates for solutions of the Hermitian-Einstein equation for cyclic Higgs bundles.
A differential operator introduced by A. Gray on the unit sphere bundle of a Kähler-Einstein manifold is studied. A lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian for the Sasaki metric on the unit sphere bundle of a Kähler-Einstein manifold is derived. Some rigidity theorems classifying complex space forms amongst compact Hermitian surfaces and the product of two projective lines amongst all Kähler-Einstein surfaces are then derived.
We study 4-dimensional second-Chern-Einstein almost-Hermitian manifolds. In the compact case, we observe that under a certain hypothesis the Riemannian dual of the Lee form is a Killing vector field. We use that observation to describe 4-dimensional compact second-Chern-Einstein locally conformally symplectic manifolds and we give some examples of such manifolds. Finally, we study the second-Chern-Einstein problem on unimodular almost-abelian Lie algebras, classifying those that admit a left-invariant second-Chern-Einstein metric with a parallel non-zero Lee form.
The present article studies the class of Einstein-Hermitian harmonic maps of constant Kaehler angle from the projective line into quadrics. We provide a description of their moduli spaces up to image, and gauge-equivalence using the language of vector bundles and representation theory. It is shown that the dimension of the moduli spaces is independent of the Einstein-Hermitian constant, and rigidity of the associated real standard, and totally real maps is examined. Finally, certain classical results concerning embeddings of two-dimensional spheres into spheres are rephrased and derived in our…
This paper produces explicit strongly Hermitian Einstein-Maxwell solutions on the smooth compact $4$-manifolds that are $S^2$-bundles over compact Riemann surfaces of any genus. This generalizes the existence results by C. LeBrun in arXiv:1411.3992 and arXiv:1504.06669. Moreover, by calculating the (normalized) Einstein-Hilbert functional of our examples we generalize Theorem E of arXiv:1504.06669, which speaks to the abundance of Hermitian Einstein-Maxwell solutions on such manifolds. As a bonus, we exhibit certain pairs of strongly Hermitian Einstein-Maxwell solutions, first found in arXiv:1…
We define a functional for Hermitian metrics using the curvature of the Chern connection. The Euler-Lagrange equation for this functional is an elliptic equation for Hermitian metrics. Solutions to this equation are related to Kähler-Einstein metrics, and are automatically Kähler-Einstein under certain conditions. Given this, a natural parabolic flow equation arises. We prove short time existence and regularity results for this flow, as well as stability for the flow near Kähler-Einstein metrics with negative or zero first Chern class.
Any constant-scalar-curvature Kaehler (cscK) metric on a complex surface may be viewed as a solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations, and this allows one to produce solutions of these equations on any 4-manifold that arises as a compact complex surface with b_1 even. It is shown, however, that not all solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations on such manifolds arise in this way; new examples can be constructed by means of conformally Kaehler geometry.
The orthogonal decomposition of the Webster curvature provides us a way to characterize some canonical metrics on a pseudo-Hermitian manifold. We derive some subelliptic differential inequalities from the Weitzenböck formulas for the traceless pseudo-Hermitian Ricci tensor and the Chern-Moser tensor of Sasakian manifolds with constant pseudo-Hermitian scalar curvature and Sasakian pseudo-Einstein manifolds respectively. By means of either subelliptic estimates or maximum principle, some rigidity theorems are established to characterize Sasakian pseudo-Einstein manifolds among Sasakian manifold…
The purpose of this paper is to investigate canonical metrics on a semi-stable vector bundle E over a compact Kahler manifold X. It is shown that, if E is semi-stable, then Donaldson's functional is bounded from below. This implies that E admits an approximate Hermitian-Einstein structure, generalizing a classic result of Kobayashi for projective manifolds to the Kahler case. As an application some basic properties of semi-stable vector bundles over compact Kahler manifolds are established, such as the fact that semi-stability is preserved under tensor product and certain exterior and symmetri…
Mabuchi introduced multiplier Hermitian structures on compact Kahler manifolds and defined metrics similar to Kahler-Einstein metrics under these structures. In this note we generalize the inequality of Moser-Trudinger type on Kahler-Einstein manifolds to this case.
Let $X$ be a compact Gauduchon manifold, and let $E$ and $V_0$ be holomorphic vector bundles over $X$. Suppose that $E$ is stable when considering all subsheaves preserved by a Higgs field $θ\in H^0($End$(E)\otimes V_0)$. Then a modified version of the Donaldson heat flow converges along a subsequence of times to a solution of a generalized Hermitian-Einstein equation, given by $iΛF+[θ,θ^\dagger]=λI$.
From a view point of the moment map, we shall introduce the notion of Einstein-Hermitian generalized connections over a generalized Kähler manifold of symplectic type. We show that moduli spaces of Einstein-Hermitian generalized connections arise as the Kähler quotients. The deformation complex of Einstein-Hermitian generalized connections is an elliptic complex and it turns out that the smooth part of the moduli space is a finite dimensional Kähler manifold. The canonical line bundle over a generalized Kähler manifold of symplectic type has the canonical generalized connection and its curvatu…
For a holomorphic vector bundle over a compact Kähler orbifold, the slope stability of the bundle is shown to be equivalent to the existence of a Hermitian-Einstein metric or to the properness of a certain functional introduced by Donaldson.
The Horrocks-Mumford bundle $E$ is a famous stable complex vector bundle of rank 2 on 4-dimensional complex projective space. By construction, $E$ has a natural Hermitian metric $h_1$. On the other hand, stability implies the existence of a Hermitian-Einstein metric in $E$ which is unique up to a positive scalar. Now the obvious question is if $h_1$ is in fact the Hermitian-Einstein metric. In this note we indicate how to show by computation that this is not the case.
We study some basic properties and examples of Hermitian metrics on complex manifolds whose traces of the curvature of the Chern connection are proportional to the metric itself.
Let E_G be a principal G-bundle over a compact connected Kähler manifold, where G is a connected reductive complex linear algebraic group. We show that E_G is semistable if and only if it admits approximate Hermitian-Einstein structures.
Given a smooth complex projective variety X and a smooth divisor D on X, we prove the existence of Hermitian-Einstein connections, with respect to a Poincaré-type metric on X - D, on polystable parabolic principal Higgs bundles with parabolic structure over D, satisfying certain conditions on its restriction to D.
Let X be a smooth complex projective curve and S a finite subset of X. We show that an orthogonal or symplectic parabolic Higgs bundle on X with parabolic structure over S admits a Hermitian-Einstein connection if and only if it is polystable.
We develop a theory of stable bundles and affine Hermitian-Einstein metrics for flat vector bundles over a special affine manifold (a manifold admitting an atlas whose gluing maps are all locally constant volume-preserving affine maps). Our paper presents a parallel to Donaldson-Uhlenbeck-Yau's proof of the existence of Hermitian-Einstein metrics on Kähler manifolds, and the extension of this theorem by Li-Yau to the non-Kähler complex case of Gauduchon metrics. Our definition of stability involves only flat vector subbundles (and not singular subsheaves), and so is simpler than the complex ca…
Let $X$ be a smooth projective variety over $\mathbb C$. We prove that a twisted Higgs vector bundle $(\calE\, ,θ)$ on $X$ admits an Einstein--Hermitian connection if and only if $(\calE\, ,θ)$ is polystable. A similar result for twisted vector bundles (no Higgs fields) was proved by S. Wang in \cite{Wa}. Our approach is simpler.
A flat complex vector bundle (E,D) on a compact Riemannian manifold (X,g) is stable (resp. polystable) in the sense of Corlette [C] if it has no D-invariant subbundle (resp. if it is the D-invariant direct sum of stable subbundles). It has been shown in [C] that the polystability of (E,D) in this sense is equivalent to the existence of a so-called harmonic metric in E. In this paper we consider flat complex vector bundles on compact Hermitian manifolds (X,g). We propose new notions of g-(poly-)stability of such bundles, and of g-Einstein metrics in them; these notions coincide with (poly-)stab…
We introduce a new system of equations coupling Kähler-Einstein and Hermitian-Yang-Mills equations. We provide a moment map interpretation of these equations. We identify a Futaki type invariant as an obstruction to the existence of solutions to these equations. We also prove a Matsushima-Lichnerowicz type theorem. We prove a deformation result that produces nontrivial solutions of these equations under some conditions. We produce examples on some projective bundles using Calabi ansatz.
Let $M$ be a compact connected special flat affine manifold without boundary equipped with a Gauduchon metric $g$ and a covariant constant volume form. Let $G$ be either a connected reductive complex linear algebraic group or the real locus of a split real form of a complex reductive group. We prove that a flat principal $G$-bundle $E_G$ over $M$ admits a Hermitian-Einstein structure if and only if $E_G$ is polystable. A polystable flat principal $G$--bundle over $M$ admits a unique Hermitian-Einstein connection. We also prove the existence and uniqueness of a Harder-Narasimhan filtration for …
We consider perturbed quadharmonic operators, $Δ^4 + V$, acting on sections of a Hermitian vector bundle over a complete Riemannian manifold, with the potential $V$ satisfying a bound from below by a non-positive function depending on the distance from a point. Under a bounded geometry assumption on the Hermitian vector bundle and the underlying Riemannian manifold, we give a sufficient condition for the essential self-adjointness of such operators. We then apply this to prove the separation property in $L^2$ when the perturbed operator acts on functions.
We adapt the notions of stability of holomorphic vector bundles in the sense of Mumford-Takemoto and Hermitian-Einstein metrics in holomorphic vector bundles for canonically polarized framed manifolds, i.e. compact complex manifolds X together with a smooth divisor D such that K_X \otimes [D] is ample. It turns out that the degree of a torsion-free coherent sheaf on X with respect to the polarization K_X \otimes [D] coincides with the degree with respect to the complete Kähler-Einstein metric g_{X \setminus D} on X \setminus D. For stable holomorphic vector bundles, we prove the existence of a…
Let $(M,g,J)$ be a Riemannian manifold with a compatible integrable complex structure $J\in\mathrm{End}(T_\mathbb{R} M)$ and $\mathcal{A}_{g,J}$ be the space of real connections on $T_\mathbb{R} M$ preserving both $g$ and $J$. In this paper, we investigate the relationship between the geometry of real connections in $\mathcal{A}_{g,J}$ and that of Hermitian connections on $T^{1,0}M$. In particular, we study the geometry of the real Chern connection $\nabla^{\mathrm{Ch,\mathrm{R}}}$ on $(M,g,J)$, and obtain Kähler-Einstein metrics by using real Chern-Einstein metrics.
We consider a dimensional reduction of the (deformed) Hermitian Yang-Mills condition on $S^1$-invariant Kähler Einstein $6$-manifolds. This allows us to reformulate the (deformed) Hermitian Yang-Mills equations in terms of data on the quotient Kähler $4$-manifold. In particular, we apply this construction to the canonical bundle of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^2$ endowed with the Calabi ansatz metric to find explicit abelian $SU(3)$ instantons and we show that these are determined by the spectrum of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^2$. We also find $1$-parameter families of explicit deformed Hermitian Yang-Mill…
In this paper, we introduce notions of nonlinear stabilities for a relative ample line bundle over a holomorphic fibration and define the notion of a geodesic-Einstein metric on this line bundle, which generalize the classical stabilities and Hermitian-Einstein metrics of holomorphic vector bundles. We introduce a Donaldson type functional and show that this functional attains its absolute minimum at geodesic-Einstein metrics, and we also discuss the relations between the existence of geodesic-Einstein metrics and the nonlinear stabilities of the line bundle. As an application, we will prove t…
The aim of this paper is to give examples of compact neutral 4-manifolds $(M,g)$ whose Ricci tensor $ρ$ satisfies the relation $\nabla_Xρ(X,X) =\frac13Xτg(X,X)$. We present also a family of new Einstein bi-Hermitian neutral metrics on ruled surfaces of genus $g>1$.
This paper describes how, in the case of algebraic surfaces, the well-known theorem of Donaldson-Uhlenbeck-Yau can be proved in a framework of generalized 'multiplier ideal sheaves', following the ideas of Siu. The key concept is that the destabilizing sheaf satisfies a differential inclusion relation. This relation is used, together with a complex Frobenius theorem for locally finitely generated subsheaves, to imply coherence of the destabilizing subsheaf.
In this paper, we study Higgs bundles on non-compact Hermitian manifolds. Under some assumptions for the underlying Hermitian manifolds which are not necessarily Kähler, we solve the Hermitian-Einstein equation on analytically stable Higgs bundles.
We consider the equations, arising as the conformal invariance conditions of the perturbed curved beta-gamma system. These equations have the physical meaning of Einstein equations with a B-field and a dilaton on a hermitian manifold, where the B-field 2-form is imaginary and proportional to the canonical form associated with hermitian metric. We show that they decompose into linear and bilinear equations and lead to the vanishing of the first Chern class of the manifold where the system is defined. We discuss the relation of these equations to the generalized Maurer-Cartan structures related …
In this paper, the moduli space of singular unitary Hermitian--Einstein monopoles on the product of a circle and a Riemann surface is shown to correspond to a moduli space of stable pairs on the Riemann surface. These pairs consist of a holomorphic vector bundle on the surface and a meromorphic automorphism of the bundle. The singularities of this automorphism correspond to the singularities of the singular monopole. We then consider the complex geometry of the moduli space; in particular, we compute dimensions, both from the complex geometric and the gauge theoretic point of view.

We consider non-Kaehler compact complex manifolds which are homogeneous under the action of a compact Lie group of biholomorphisms and we investigate the existence of special (invariant) Hermitian metrics on these spaces. We focus on a particular class of such manifolds comprising the case of Calabi-Eckmann manifolds and we prove the existence of an invariant Hermitian metric which is Chern-Einstein, namely whose second Ricci tensor of the associated Chern connection is a positive multiple of the metric itself. The uniqueness is also discussed.
This is a sequel of our paper [arXiv:1809.08425] on the Quot-scheme limit and variational properties of Donaldson's functional, which established its coercivity for slope stable holomorphic vector bundles over smooth projective varieties. Assuming that the coercivity is uniform in a certain sense, we provide a new proof of the Donaldson-Uhlenbeck-Yau theorem, in such a way that the analysis involved in the proof is elementary except for the asymptotic expansion of the Bergman kernel.
Let $L$ be a negative holomorphic line bundle over an $(n-1)$-dimensional complex torus $D$. Let $h$ be a Hermitian metric on $L$ such that the curvature form of the dual Hermitian metric defines a flat Kähler metric on $D$. Then $h$ is unique up to scaling, and, for some closed tubular neighborhood $V$ of the zero section $D \subset L$, the form $ω_h = -(n+1)i\partial\overline\partial\log(-{\log h})$ defines a complete Kähler-Einstein metric on $V \setminus D$ with ${\rm Ric}(ω_h) = -ω_h$. In fact, $ω_h$ is complex hyperbolic, i.e., the holomorphic sectional curvature of $ω_h$ is constant, an…
We give a mathematical exposition of the Page metric, and introduce an efficient coordinate system for it. We carefully examine the submanifolds of the underlying smooth manifold, and show that the Page metric does not have positive holomorphic bisectional curvature. We exhibit a holomorphic subsurface with flat normal bundle. We also give another proof of the fact that a compact complex surface together with an Einstein-Hermitian metric of positive orthogonal bisectional curvature is biholomorphically isometric to the complex projective plane with its Fubini-Study metric up to rescaling. This…
