We define a functional for Hermitian metrics using the curvature of the Chern connection. The Euler-Lagrange equation for this functional is an elliptic equation for Hermitian metrics. Solutions to this equation are related to Kähler-Einstein metrics, and are automatically Kähler-Einstein under certain conditions. Given this, a natural parabolic flow equation arises. We prove short time existence and regularity results for this flow, as well as stability for the flow near Kähler-Einstein metrics with negative or zero first Chern class.
We show that a Hermitian algebraic curvature model satisfies the Gray identity if and only if it is geometrically realizable by a Hermitian manifold. Furthermore, such a curvature model can in fact be realized by a Hermitian manifold of constant scalar curvature and constant *-scalar curvature which satisfies the Kaehler condition at the point in question.
We show that a para-Hermitian algebraic curvature model satisfies the para-Gray identity if and only if it is geometrically realizable by a para-Hermitian manifold. This requires extending the Tricerri-Vanhecke curvature decomposition to the para-Hermitian setting. Additionally, the geometric realization can be chosen to have constant scalar curvature and constant *-scalar curvature.
In this paper, by introducing a notion of local quasi holomorphic frame, we obtain a curvature formula for almost Hermitian manifolds which is similar to that of Hermitian manifolds. Moreover, as applications of the curvature formula, we extend a result of H.S. Wu and a result of F. Zheng to almost Hermitian manifolds.
We prove that any $4$-dimensional almost-Kähler Lie algebra of constant Hermitian holomorphic sectional curvature with respect to the canonical Hermitian connection is Kähler.
We study geometric realization questions of curvature in the affine, Riemannian, almost Hermitian, almost para Hermitian, almost hyper Hermitian, almost hyper para Hermitian, Hermitian, and para Hermitian settings. We also express questions in Ivanov-Petrova geometry, Osserman geometry, and curvature homogeneity in terms of geometric realizations.
In dimension greater than four, we prove that if a Hermitian non-Kaehler manifold is of pointwise constant antiholomorphic sectional curvatures, then it is of constant sectional curvatures.
In this work, we show that along a particular choice of Hermitian curvature flow, the non-positivity of Chern-Ricci curvature will be preserved if the initial metric has non-positive bisectional curvature. As an application, we show that the canonical line bundle of a compact Hermitian manifold with nonpositive bisectional curvature and quasi-negative Chern-Ricci curvature is ample.
In this paper we study invariant almost Hermitian geometry on generalized flag manifolds. We will focus on providing examples of Kähler like scalar curvature metric, that is, almost Hermitian structures $(g,J)$ satisfying $s=2s_{\rm C}$, where $s$ is Riemannian scalar curvature and $s_{\rm C}$ is the Chern scalar curvature.
In this paper, we study the curvature estimate of the Hermitian-Yang-Mills flow on holomorphic vector bundles. In one simple case, we show that the curvature of the evolved Hermitian metric is uniformly bounded away from the analytic subvariety determined by the Harder-Narasimhan-Seshadri filtration of the holomorphic vector bundle.
We show any Riemannian curvature model can be geometrically realized by a manifold with constant scalar curvature. We also show that any pseudo-Hermitian curvature model, para-Hermitian curvature model, hyper-pseudo-Hermitian curvature model, or hyper-para-Hermitian curvature model can be realized by a manifold with constant scalar and *-scalar curvature.
We prove the following results: An almost Hermitian manifold of indefinite metric is of pointwise constant holomorphic sectional curvature if the holomorphic sectional curvature is bounded from above and from below. If the antiholomorphic sectional curvature is bounded either from above or from below, then the manifold is of pointwise constant antiholomorphic sectional curvature. Similar results are obtained for almost Hermitian manifolds of definite metric.
We study curvature properties of four-dimensional almost Hermitian manifolds with vanishing Bochner curvature tensor as defined by Tricerri and Vanhecke. We give local structure theorems for such Kaehler manifolds, and find out several examples related to the theorems.
The orthogonal decomposition of the Webster curvature provides us a way to characterize some canonical metrics on a pseudo-Hermitian manifold. We derive some subelliptic differential inequalities from the Weitzenböck formulas for the traceless pseudo-Hermitian Ricci tensor and the Chern-Moser tensor of Sasakian manifolds with constant pseudo-Hermitian scalar curvature and Sasakian pseudo-Einstein manifolds respectively. By means of either subelliptic estimates or maximum principle, some rigidity theorems are established to characterize Sasakian pseudo-Einstein manifolds among Sasakian manifold…
We prove that a simpy connected Hermitian Einstein 4-manifold with non-negative sectional curvature is isometric to complex projective space $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^{2}$ with the Fubini-Study metric or isometric to the product $\mathbb{S}^{2}\times \mathbb{S}^{2}$ with the canonical metric.
In this paper, we systematically compute the Bianchi identities for the canonical connection on an almost Hermitian manifold. Moreover, we also compute the curvature tensor of the Levi-Civita connection on almost Hermitian manifolds in terms of curvature and torsion of the canonical connection. As applications of the curvature identities, we obtain some results about the integrability of quasi Kaehler manifolds and some properties of nearly Kaehler manifolds.
On a pre-quantized symplectic manifold, we show that the symplectic Futaki invariant, which is an obstruction to the existence of constant Hermitian scalar curvature almost-Kähler metrics, is actually an asymptotic invariant. This allows us to deduce a lower bound for the L^2-norm of the Hermitian scalar curvature as obtained by S. Donaldson \cite{Don} in the Kähler case.
On an almost Hermitian manifold, we have two Hermitian scalar curvatures with respect to any canonical Hermitian connection defined by P. Gauduchon. Explicit formulas of these two Hermitian scalar curvatures are obtained in terms of Riemannian scalar curvature, norms of decompositions of covariant derivative of the fundamental 2-form with respect to the Levi-Civita connection, and the codifferential of the Lee form. Then we get some inequalities of various total scalar curvatures and some characterization results of the Kähler metric, balanced metric, locally conformally Kähler metric and the …
In this paper, we study the existence of various harmonic maps from Hermitian manifolds to Kaehler, Hermitian and Riemannian manifolds respectively. By using refined Bochner formulas on Hermitian (possibly non-Kaehler) manifolds, we derive new rigidity results on Hermitian harmonic maps from compact Hermitian manifolds to Riemannian manifolds, and we also obtain the complex analyticity of pluri-harmonic maps from compact complex manifolds to compact Kaehler manifolds (and Riemannian manifolds) with non-degenerate curvatures, which are analogous to several fundamental results in [28,Siu], [14,J…
In this paper, we investigate the problem of prescribing Webster scalar curvatures on compact pseudo-Hermitian manifolds. In terms of the method of upper and lower solutions and the perturbation theory of self-adjoint operators, we can describe some sets of Webster scalar curvature functions which can be realized through pointwise CR conformal deformations and CR conformally equivalent deformations respectively from a given pseudo-Hermitian structure.
In this article, we examine the behavior of the Riemannian and Hermitian curvature tensors of a Hermitian metric, when one of the curvature tensors obeys all the symmetry conditions of the curvature tensor of a Kähler metric. We will call such metrics G-Kähler-like or Kähler-like, for lack of better terminologies. Such metrics are always balanced when the manifold is compact, so in a way they are more special than balanced metrics, which drew a lot of attention in the study of non-Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds. In particular we derive various formulas on the difference between the Riemannian and…
In this paper we study invariant almost Hermitian geometry on generalized flag manifolds which the isotropy representation decompose into two or three irreducible components. We will provide a classification of such flag manifolds admitting Kähler like scalar curvature metric, that is, almost Hermitian structures $(g,J)$ satisfying $s=2s_C$ where $s$ is Riemannian scalar curvature and $s_C$ is the Chern scalar curvature.
We obtain a classification theorem for non Kaehler nearly Kaehler manifolds with vanishing Bochner curvature tensor (introduced by Tricerri and Vanhecke).
It is proved that if an almost Hermitian manifold of dimension greater than 4 has vanishing (classical) Bochner curvature tensor and is not Kaehlerian at a point, then it is flat in a neighbourhood of this point.
In this paper we will prove that the only compact 4-manifold M with an Einstein metric of positive sectional curvature which is also hermitian with respect to some complex structure on M, is the complex projective plane CP^2, with its Fubini-Study metric.
We study the curvature of almost Hermitian manifolds and their special analogues via intrinsic torsion and representation theory. By deriving different forumlae for the skew-symmetric part of the star-Ricci curvature, we find that some of these contributions are dependent on the approach used, and for the almost Hermitian case we obtain tables that differ from those of Falcitelli, Farinola and Salamon. We show how the exterior algebra may used to explain some of these variations.
We study a version of the Hermitian curvature flow on compact homogeneous complex manifolds. We prove that the solution has a finite exstinction time $T>0$ and we analyze its behaviour when $t\to T$. We also determine the invariant static metrics and we study the convergence of the normalized flow to one of them.
We study the decomposition of the Riemannian curvature R tensor of an almost quaternion-Hermitian manifold under the action of its structure group Sp(n)Sp(1). Using the minimal connection, we show that most components are determined by the intrinsic torsion ξand its covariant derivative \widetilde\nablaξand determine relations between the decompositions of ξ\otimesξ, \widetilde\nablaξand R. We pay particular attention to the behaviour of the Ricci curvature and the q-Ricci curvature.
It is known that Hirzebruch surfaces of non zero degree do not admit any constant scalar curvature Kähler metric \cite{ACGT,G,M17}. In this note, we describe how to construct Hermitian metrics of positive constant Chern scalar curvature on Hirzebruch surfaces using Page--Bérard-Bergery's ansatz \cite{P78,B82}. We also construct the interesting case of Hermitian metrics of zero Chern scalar curvature on some ruled surfaces. Furthermore, we discuss the problem of the existence in a conformal class of critical metrics of the total Chern scalar curvature, studied by Gauduchon in \cite{G80,G84}.
For a Kahler metric, the Riemannian scalar curvature is equal to twice the Chern scalar curvature. The question we address here is whether this equivalence can hold for a non-Kahler Hermitian metric. For such metrics, if they exist, the Chern scalar curvature would have the same geometric meaning as the Riemannian scalar curvature. Recently, Liu-Yang showed that if this equivalence of scalar curvatures holds even in average over a compact Hermitian manifold, then the metric must in fact be Kahler. However, we prove that a certain class of noncompact complex manifolds do admit Hermitian metr…
In this paper, we study the existence of constant holomorphic d-scalar curvature and the prescribing holomorphic d-scalar curvature problem on closed, connected almost Hermitian manifolds of dimension $n\geq6$. In addition, we obtain an application and a variation formula for the associated conformal invariant.
We show that an almost Hermitian manifold $(M,g)$ of real dimension $4n$ which is strongly asymptotic to $\mathbb{C}H^{2n}$ and satisfies a certain scalar curvature bound must be isometric to the complex hyperbolic space. Assuming Kähler instead of almost Hermitian this gives the already known rigidity result by H. Boualem and M. Herlich proved in \emph{Ann. Scuola Norm. Sup Pisa (Ser. V)}, vol. 1(2).
In this paper we establish partial structure results on the geometry of compact Hermitian manifolds of semipositive Griffiths curvature. We show that after appropriate arbitrary small deformation of the initial metric, the null spaces of the Chern-Ricci two-form generate a holomorphic, integrable distribution. This distribution induces an isometric, holomorphic, almost free action of a complex Lie group on the universal cover of the manifold. Our proof combines the strong maximum principle for the Hermitian Curvature Flow (HCF), new results on the interplay of the HCF and the torsion-twisted c…
Let $M$ be a closed Riemann surface, $N$ a Riemannian manifold of Hermitian non-positive curvature, $f:M\to N$ a continuous map, and $E$ the function on the Teichmüller space of $M$ that assigns to a complex structure on $M$ the energy of the harmonic map homotopic to $f$. We show that $E$ is a plurisubharmonic function on the Teichmüller space of $M$. If $N$ has strictly negative Hermitian curvature, we characterize the directions in which the complex Hessian of $E$ vanishes.
In this note, we introduce a new type of positivity condition for the curvature of a Hermitian manifold, which generalizes the notion of nonnegative quadratic orthogonal bisectional curvature to the non-Kähler case. We derive a Bochner formula for closed $(1, 1)$-forms from which this condition appears naturally and prove that if a Hermitian manifold satisfy our positivity condition, then any class $α\in H^{1, 1}_{BC}(X)$ can be represented by a closed $(1, 1)$-form which is parallel with respect to the Bismut connection. Lastly, we show that such a curvature positivity condition holds on cert…
This paper generalizes a rigidity result of complex hyperbolic spaces by M. Herzlich. We prove that an almost Hermitian spin manifold $(M,g)$ of real dimension $4n+2$ which is strongly asymptotic to $\hyp{\C}^{2n+1}$ and satisfies a certain scalar curvature bound must be isometric to the complex hyperbolic space. The fact that we do not assume $g$ to be Kähler reflects in the inequality for the scalar curvature.
In this paper, we introduce the first Aeppli-Chern class for complex manifolds and show that the $(1,1)$- component of the curvature $2$-form of the Levi-Civita connection on the anti-canonical line bundle represents this class. We systematically investigate the relationship between a variety of Ricci curvatures on Hermitian manifolds and the background Riemannian manifolds. Moreover, we study non-Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds by using the first Aeppli-Chern class and the Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics. In particular, we construct explicit Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics on Hopf manifolds $S^{2n-…
Motivated by a recent work of Chen-Zheng [8] on Strominger space forms, we prove that a compact Hermitian surface with pointwise constant holomorphic sectional curvature with respect to a Gauduchon connection $\nabla^t $ is either Kähler, or an isosceles Hopf surface with an admissible metric and $t=-1$ or $t=3$. In particular, a compact Hermitian surface with pointwise constant Lichnerowicz holomorphic sectional curvature is Kähler. We further generalize the result to the case for the two-parameter canonical connections introduced by Zhao-Zheng [30], which extends a previous result by Apostol…
The Almost Hermitian Curvature flow was introduced by Streets and Tian in order to study almost hermitian structures, with a particular interest in symplectic structures. This flow is given by a diffusion-reaction equation. Hence it is natural to ask the following: which almost hermitian structures are dynamically stable? An almost hermitian structure $(ω,J)$ is dynamically stable if it is a fixed point of the flow and there exists a neighborhood $\mathcal{N}$ of $(ω,J)$ such that for any almost hermitian structure $(ω(0),J(0)) \in \mathcal{N}$ the solution of the Almost Hermitian Curvature fl…
We examine the class of compact Hermitian manifolds with constant holomorphic sectional curvature. Such manifolds are conjectured to be Kähler (hence a complex space form) when the constant is non-zero and Chern flat (hence a quotient of a complex Lie group) when the constant is zero. The conjecture is known in complex dimension two but open in higher dimensions. In this paper, we establish a partial solution in complex dimension three by proving that any compact Hermitian threefold with zero real bisectional curvature must be Chern flat. Real bisectional curvature is a curvature notion introd…
We study the positive Hermitian curvature flow of left-invariant metrics on complex 2-step nilpotent Lie groups. In this setting we completely characterize the long-time behaviour of the flow, showing that normalized solutions to the flow subconverge to a non-flat algebraic soliton, in Cheeger- Gromov topology. We also exhibit a uniqueness result for algebraic solitons on such Lie groups.
On Hermitian manifolds, the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. By refining the Bochner formulas for any Hermitian complex vector bundle (Riemannain real vector bundle) with an arbitrary metric connection over a compact Hermitian manifold, we can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and complex vector bundles by the second Ricci curvature tensors. We will also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.
We show that a closed almost Kähler 4-manifold of globally constant holomorphic sectional curvature $k\geq 0$ with respect to the canonical Hermitian connection is automatically Kähler. The same result holds for $k<0$ if we require in addition that the Ricci curvature is J-invariant. The proofs are based on the observation that such manifolds are self-dual, so that Chern-Weil theory implies useful integral formulas, which are then combined with results from Seiberg--Witten theory.
Let J be a unitary almost complex structure on a Riemannian manifold (M,g). If x is a unit tangent vector, let P be the associated complex line spanned by x and by Jx. We show that if (M,g) is Hermitian or if (M,g) is nearly Kaehler, then either the complex Jacobi operator (JC(P)y=R(y,x)x+R(y,Jx)Jx) or the complex curvature operator (RC(P)y=R(x,Jx)y) completely determine the full curvature operator; this generalizes a well known result in the real setting to the complex setting. We also show this result fails for general almost Hermitian manifold.
We study two types of isotropic planes: weakly isotropic and strongly isotropic planes. We prove that a Riemannian manifold of indefinite metric is conformally flat if and only if its curvature tensor vanishes on all the strongly isotropic planes. We specialize the plane axiom for Riemannian manifolds of indefinite metrics. We show that manifolds satisfying plane axiom of weakly (strongly) isotropic planes are of constant sectional curvature (conformaly flat). Further we study analogous problems on almost Hermitian manifolds of indefinite metrics.
We study invariant solutions to the Positive Hermitian Curvature Flow, introduced by Ustinovskiy, on complex Lie groups. We show in particular that the canonical scale-static metrics on the special linear groups, arising from the Killing form, are dynamically unstable. This disproves a conjecture of Ustinovskiy. We also construct certain perfect Lie groups that admit at least two distinct invariant solitons for the flow, only one of which is algebraic. This is the second known example of a geometric flow with non-algebraic, homogeneous solitons. The first being the G2-Laplacian flow.
The various scalar curvatures on an almost Hermitian manifold are studied, in particular with respect to conformal variations. We show several integrability theorems, which state that two of these can only agree in the Kähler case. Our main question is the existence of almost Kähler metrics with conformally constant Chern scalar curvature. This problem is completely solved for ruled manifolds and in a complementary case where methods from the Chern-Yamabe problem are adapted to the non-integrable case. Also a moment map interpretation of the problem is given, leading to a Futaki invariant and …
A local classification of the Hermitian manifolds with flat associated connection is given. Hermitian manifolds admitting locally a conformal metric with flat associated connection are characterized by a curvature identity. Locally conformal Kaehler manifolds as well as Hermitian surfaces with vanishing associated conformal curvature tensor are characterized as locally conformal to a Kaehler manifold of constant holomorphic sectional curvatures.
