A new construction is presented of scalar-flat Kaehler metrics on non-minimal ruled surfaces. The method is based on the resolution of singularities of orbifold ruled surfaces which are closely related to rank-2 parabolically stable holomorphic bundles. This rather general construction is shown also to give new examples of low genus: in particular, it is shown that CP^2 blown up at 10 suitably chosen points, admits a scalar-flat Kaehler metric; this answers a question raised by Claude LeBrun in 1986 in connection with the classification of compact self-dual 4-manifolds.
A complex ruled surface admits an iterated blow-up encoded by a parabolic structure with rational weights. Under a condition of parabolic stability, one can construct a Kaehler metric of constant scalar curvature on the blow-up according to math.DG/0412405. We present a generalization of this construction to the case of parabolically polystable ruled surfaces. Thus we can produce numerous examples of Kaehler surfaces of constant scalar curvature with circle or toric symmetry.
We prove that any simply connected special Kaehler manifold admits a canonical immersion as a parabolic affine hypersphere. As an application, we associate a parabolic affine hypersphere to any nondegenerate holomorphic function. Also we show that a classical result of Calabi and Pogorelov on parabolic spheres implies Lu's theorem on complete special Kaehler manifolds with a positive definite metric.
In this paper, we introduce a new parabolic equation on Kähler manifolds. The static point of this flow is related to the existence of a lower bound of the Mabuchi energy. In this paper, we prove the flow always exists for all times for any initial smooth data. Further more, if the initial metric has non-negative bisectional curvature, we prove the flow converges to a static metric eventually.
We prove the existence of a (unique) S^1-invariant Ricci-flat Kaehler metric on a neighbourhood of the zero section in the canonical bundle of a real-analytic Kaehler manifold X, extending the metric on X.
We prove that any Kaehler manifold admitting a flat complex conformal connection is a Bochner-Kaehler manifold with special scalar distribution and zero geometric constants. Applying the local structural theorem for such manifolds we obtain a complete description of the Kaehler manifolds under consideration.
We prove that every Kaehler metric, whose potential is a function of the time-like distance in the flat Kaehler-Lorentz space, is of quasi-constant holomorphic sectional curvatures, satisfying certain conditions. This gives a local classification of the Kaehler manifolds with the above mentioned metrics. New examples of Sasakian space forms are obtained as real hypersurfaces of a Kaehler space form with special invariant distribution. We introduce three types of even dimensional rotational hypersurfaces in flat spaces and endow them with locally conformal Kaehler structures. We prove that thes…
We consider the moduli space MN of flat unitary connections on an open Kaehler manifold U (complement of a divisor with normal crossings) with restrictions on their monodromy transformations. Using intersection and L2 cohomologies with degenerating coefficients we construct a natural symplectic form F on MN. When U is quasi-projective we prove that F is actually a Kaehler form.
We investigate the existence of a holomorphic and isometric immersion in the complex projective space for the complete Ricci-flat Kaehler metrics constructed by M. B. Stenzel on the cotangent bundle of a compact, rank one, globally symmetric space.
Let (M,J) be a compact complex 2-manifold which which admits a Kaehler metric for which the integral of the scalar curvature is non-negative. Also suppose that M does not admit a Ricci-flat Kähler metric. Then if M is blown up at sufficiently many points, the resulting complex surface admits Kaehler metrics with scalar curvature identically equal to zero.
We study the anti-self-dual equation for non-diagonal SU(2)-invariant metrics and give an equivalent ninth-order system. This system reduce to a sixth-order system if the metric is in the conformal class of scalar-flat-Kaehler metric.
A Riemannian metric on a compact 4-manifold is said to be Bach-flat if it is a critical point for the L2-norm of the Weyl curvature. When the Riemannian 4-manifold in question is a Kaehler surface, we provide a rough classification of solutions, followed by detailed results regarding each case in the classification. The most mysterious case prominently involves 3-dimensional CR manifolds.
We propose two conjectures about Ricci-flat metrics: Conjecture 1: A Ricci-flat projectively induced metric is flat. Conjecture 2: A Ricci-flat metric on an $n$-dimensional complex manifold such that the $a_{n+1}$ coefficient of the TYZ expansion vanishes is flat. We verify Conjecture 1 (see Theorem 1.1) under the assumptions that the metric is radial and stable-projectively induced and Conjecture 2 (see Theorem 1.2) for complex surfaces whose metric is either radial or complete and ALE. We end the paper by showing, by means of the Simanca metric, that the assumption of Ricci-flatness in Conje…
In this paper we investigate the balanced condition (in the sense of Donaldson) and the existence of an Englis expansion for the LeBrun's metrics on $C^2$. Our first result shows that a LeBrun's metric on $C^2$ is never balanced unless it is the flat metric. The second one shows that an Englis expansion of the Rawnsley's function associated to a LeBrun's metric always exists, while the coefficient $a_3$ of the expansion vanishes if and only if the LeBrun's metric is indeed the flat one.
Four dimensional simply connected Lie groups admitting a pseudo Kähler metric are determined. The corresponding Lie algebras are modelized and the compatible pairs $(J,ω)$ are parametrized up to complex isomorphism (where $J$ is a complex structure and $ω$ is a symplectic structure). Such structure gives rise to a pseudo Riemannian metric $g$ for which $J$ is parallel. It is proved that most of these complex homogeneous spaces admit a pseudo Kähler Einstein metric. Ricci flat and flat metrics are determined. In particular Ricci flat unimodular Kähler Lie algebras are flat in dimension four. Ot…
We introduce the notion of a hamiltonian 2-form on a Kaehler manifold and obtain a complete local classification. This notion appears to play a pivotal role in several aspects of Kaehler geometry. In particular, on any Kaehler manifold with co-closed Bochner tensor, the (suitably normalized) Ricci form is hamiltonian, and this leads to an explicit description of these Kaehler metrics, which we call weakly Bochner-flat. Hamiltonian 2-forms draw attention to a general construction of Kaehler metrics which interpolates between toric geometry and Calabi-like constructions of metrics on (projective…
Almost hypercomplex manifolds with Hermitian and Norden metrics and more specially the corresponding quaternionic Kaehler manifolds are considered. Some necessary and sufficient conditions the investigated manifolds be isotropic hyper-Kaehlerian and flat are found. It is proved that the quaternionic Kaehler manifolds with the considered metric structure are Einstein for dimension at least 8. The class of the non-hyper-Kaehler quaternionic Kaehler manifold of the considered type is determined.
We study G-invariant Kaehler metrics on G^C from the Hamiltonian point of view. As an application we show that there exist (GxG)-invariant Ricci-flat Kaehler metrics on G^C for any compact semisimple Lie group G.
We study SYZ mirror symmetry in the context of non-Kaehler Calabi-Yau manifolds. In particular, we study the six-dimensional Type II supersymmetric $SU(3)$ systems with Ramond-Ramond fluxes, and generalize them to higher dimensions. We show that Fourier-Mukai transform provides the mirror map between these Type IIA and Type IIB supersymmetric systems in the semi-flat setting. This is concretely exhibited by nilmanifolds.
We provide an explicit resolution of the existence problem for extremal Kaehler metrics on toric 4-orbifolds M with second Betti number b2(M)=2. More precisely we show that M admits such a metric if and only if its rational Delzant polytope (which is a labelled quadrilateral) is K-polystable in the relative, toric sense (as studied by S. Donaldson, E. Legendre, G. Szekelyhidi et al.). Furthermore, in this case, the extremal Kaehler metric is ambitoric, i.e., compatible with a conformally equivalent, oppositely oriented toric Kaehler metric, which turns out to be extremal as well. These results…
Let $X$ be a compact connected Riemann surface of genus $g$, with $g \geq 2$. For each $d <η(X)$, where $η(X)$ is the gonality of $X$, the symmetric product $\text{Sym}^d(X)$ embeds into $\text{Pic}^d(X)$ by sending an effective divisor of degree $d$ to the corresponding holomorphic line bundle. Therefore, the restriction of the flat Kähler metric on $\text{Pic}^d(X)$ is a Kähler metric on $\text{Sym}^d(X)$. We investigate this Kähler metric on $\text{Sym}^d(X)$. In particular, we estimate it's Bergman kernel. We also prove that any holomorphic automorphism of $\text{Sym}^d(X)$ is an isometry.
Let $M$ be a real $l$-dimensional minimal submanifold with flat normal connection in a kaehler product manifold $\overline{M}^m\times \overline{M}^n$ where $\overline{M}^m$ and $\overline{M}^n$ are complex $m$-dimensional and complex $n$-dimensional kaehler manifolds with constant holomorphic sectional curvature $c_1$ and $c_2$ respectively. We give a formula for the Laplacian of the second fundamental form of $M$. Specially we discuss the F-anti invariant case. We also give some applications of this formula.
We consider $F: M \to N$ a minimal oriented compact real 2n-submanifold M, immersed into a Kaehler-Einstein manifold N of complex dimension 2n, and scalar curvature R. We assume that $n \geq 2$ and F has equal Kaehler angles. Our main result is to prove that, if n = 2 and $R \neq 0$, then F is either a complex submanifold or a Lagrangian submanifold. We also prove that, if $n \geq 3$ and F has no complex points, then: (A) If R < 0, then F is Lagrangian; (B) If R = 0, the Kaehler angle must be constant. We also study pluriminimal submanifolds with equal Kaehler angles, and prove that, if they a…
The Kaehler manifolds of quasi-constant holomorphic sectional curvatures are introduced as Kaehler manifolds with complex distribution of codimension two, whose holomorphic sectional curvature only depends on the corresponding point and the geometric angle, associated with the section. A curvature identity characterizing such manifolds is found. The biconformal group of transformations whose elements transform Kaehler metrics into Kaehler ones is introduced and biconformal tensor invariants are obtained. This makes it possible to classify the manifolds under consideration locally. The class of…
In this article, we construct a new para-Kähler structure $({\mathcal G},{\mathcal J},Ω)$ in the space of oriented geodesics ${\mathbb L}(M)$ in a non-flat, real space form $M$. We first show that the para-Kähler metric ${\mathcal G}$ is scalar flat and when $M$ is a 3-dimensional real space form, ${\mathcal G}$ is locally conformally flat. Furthermore, we prove that the space of oriented geodesics in hyperbolic $n$-space, equipped with the constructed metric ${\mathcal G}$, is minimally isometric embedded in the tangent bundle of the hyperbolic $n$-space. We then study the submanifold theory,…
In this paper, we first define the complexification of a real analytic map between real analytic Koszul manifolds and show that the complexified map is the holomorphic extension of the original map. Next we define an anti-Kaehler metric compatible with the adapted complex structure on the complexification of a real analytic pseudo-Riemannian manifold. In particular, for a pseudo-Riemannian homogeneous space, we define another complexification and a (complete) anti-Kaehler metric on the complexification. One of main purposes of this paper is to find the interesting relation between these two co…
We study a system of equations on a compact complex manifold, that couples the scalar curvature of a Kaehler metric with a spectral function of a first-order deformation of the complex structure. The system comes from an infinite-dimensional Kaehler reduction, which is a hyperkaehler reduction for a particular choice of the spectral function. The system can be formally complexified using a flat connection on the space of first-order deformations that are compatible with a Kaehler metric. We describe a variational characterization of the equations, a Futaki invariant for the system, and a gener…
We construct left invariant quaternionic contact (qc) structures on Lie groups with zero and non-zero torsion and with non-vanishing quaternionic contact conformal curvature tensor, thus showing the existence of non-flat quaternionic contact manifolds. We prove that the product of the real line with a seven dimensional manifold, equipped with a certain qc structure, has a quaternionic Kaehler metric as well as a metric with holonomy contained in Spin(7). As a consequence we determine explicit quaternionic Kaehler metrics and Spin(7)-holonomy metrics which seem to be new. Moreover, we give expl…
In this article we develop a new approach to the problem of the stability of locally conformally Kähler structures (l.c.k structures) under small deformations of complex structures and deformations of flat line bundles. We show that under the certain cohomological condition the stability of l.c.k structures does hold. We apply our approach to Hopf manifolds and its generalizations to obtain the stability of l.c.k structures which do not have potential in general. We give an explicit description of the cohomological obstructions of the stability of l.c.k structures on Inoue surfaces with $b_2=0…
We construct new explicit compact supersymmetric valid solutions with non-zero field strength, non-flat instanton and constant dilaton to the heterotic equations of motion in dimension six. We present balanced Hermitian structures on compact nilmanifolds in dimension six satisfying the heterotic supersymmetry equations with non-zero flux, non-flat instanton and constant dilaton which obey the three-form Bianchi identity with curvature term taken with respect to either the Levi-Civita, the (+)-connection or the Chern connection. Among them, all our solutions with respect to the (+)-connection o…
A special linear Lie group over the real number field and the quarternion field admits a projectivley flat affine connection. We show that parabolic subgroups are autoparallel submanifolds and give a criterion the induced connection is projectively equivalent to a flat affine connection.
We prove a general criterion to establish existence and uniqueness of a short-time solution to an evolution equation involving "closed" sections of a vector bundle, generalizing a method used recently by Bryant and Xu for studying the Laplacian flow in G_2-geometry. We apply this theorem in balanced geometry introducing a natural extension of the Calabi flow to the balanced case. We show that this flow has always a unique short-time solution belonging to the same Bott-Chern cohomology class of the initial balanced structure and that it preserves the Kaehler condition. Finally we study explicit…
Given a compact constant scalar curvature Kaehler orbifold, with nontrivial holomorphic vector fields, whose singularities admit a local ALE Kaehler Ricci-flat resolution, we find sufficient conditions on the position of the singular points to ensure the existence of a global constant scalar curvature Kaehler desingularization. This generalizes the results previously obtained by the first author with F. Pacard. A series of explicit examples is discussed.
We develop in detail the theory of c-projective geometry, a natural analogue of projective differential geometry adapted to complex manifolds. We realise it as a type of parabolic geometry and describe the associated Cartan or tractor connection. A Kaehler manifold gives rise to a c-projective structure and this is one of the primary motivations for its study. The existence of two or more Kaehler metrics underlying a given c-projective structure has many ramifications, which we explore in depth. As a consequence of this analysis, we prove the Yano-Obata conjecture for complete Kaehler manifold…
We discuss the mathematical properties of six--dimensional non--Kähler manifolds which occur in the context of ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric heterotic and type IIA string compactifications with non--vanishing background H--field. The intrinsic torsion of the associated SU(3) structures falls into five different classes. For heterotic compactifications we present an explicit dictionary between the supersymmetry conditions and these five torsion classes. We show that the non--Ricci flat Iwasawa manifold solves the supersymmetry conditions with non--zero H--field, so that it is a consistent heterot…
A Hermitian Einstein-Weyl manifold is a complex manifold admitting a Ricci-flat Kaehler covering W, with the deck transform acting on W by homotheties. If compact, it admits a canonical Vaisman metric, due to Gauduchon. We show that a Hermitian Einstein-Weyl structure on a compact complex manifold is determined by its volume form. This result is a conformal analogue of Calabi's theorem stating the uniqueness of Kaehler metrics with a given volume form in a given Kaehler class. We prove that a solution of a conformal version of complex Monge-Ampere equation is unique. We conjecture that a Hermi…
In 1993, Bartnik introduced a quasi-spherical construction of metrics of prescribed scalar curvature on 3-manifolds. Under quasi-spherical ansatz, the problem is converted into the initial value problem for a semi-linear parabolic equation of the lapse function. The original ansatz of Bartnik started with a background foliation with round metrics on the 2-sphere leaves. This has been generalized by several authors under various assumptions on the background foliation. In this article, we consider background foliations given by conformal round metrics, and by the Ricci flow on 2-spheres. We dis…
We show that the Ricci flat Calabi's metrics on holomorphic line bundles over compact Kaehler-Einstein manifolds are not projectively induced. As a byproduct we solve a conjecture addressed in [arXiv:1705.03908v2 [math.DG]] by proving that any multiple of the Eguchi-Hanson metric on the blow-up of C^2 at the origin is not projectively induced.
We analyze the relevance of the generalized Kronheimer construction for the gauge-gravity correspondence. We study the general structure of IIB supergravity D3-brane solutions on crepant resolutions $Y$ of singularities $\mathbb{C}^3/Γ$ with $Γ$ a finite subgroup of $SU(3)$. Next we concentrate on another essential item for the D3-brane construction, i.e., the existence of a Ricci-flat metric on $Y$, with particular attention to the case $Γ=\mathbb{Z}_4$. We conjecture that on the exceptional divisor the Kronheimer Kähler metric and the Ricci-flat one, that is locally flat at infinity, coincid…
We establish 2-jet determinacy for the symmetry algebra of the underlying structure of any (complex or real) parabolic geometry. At non-flat points, we prove that the symmetry algebra is in fact 1-jet determined. Moreover, we prove 1-jet determinacy at any point for a variety of non-flat parabolic geometries - in particular torsion-free, parabolic contact, and several other classes.
We give an explicit local classification of conformally equivalent but oppositely oriented Kaehler metrics on a 4-manifold which are toric with respect to a common 2-torus action. In the generic case, these structures have an intriguing local geometry depending on a quadratic polynomial and two arbitrary functions of one variable, these two functions being explicit degree 4 polynomials when the Kaehler metrics are extremal (in the sense of Calabi). One motivation for and application of this result is an explicit local description of Einstein 4-manifolds which are hermitian with respect to eith…
A well known consequence of the Wirtinger inequality is that in a Kaehler surface a holomorphic curve is an area minimizer in its homology class. In light of this result it is natural, given a Kaehler surface, to investigate the relation between area minimizers and complex curves. When the Kaehler surface is a K3 surface this problem takes on a new character. A Ricci flat (Calabi-Yau) metric on a K3 surface X is hyperkaehler in the sense that there is a two-sphere of complex structures, called the hyperkaehler line, each of which is compatible with the metric. A minimizer of area among surface…
In this article we study the Kähler Ricci flow, the corresponding parabolic Monge Ampère equation and complete non-compact Kähler Ricci flat manifolds. In our main result Theorem \ref{mainthm} we prove that if $(M, g)$ is sufficiently close to being Kähler Ricci flat in a suitable sense, then the Kähler Ricci flow \eqref{KRF} has a long time smooth solution $g(t)$ converging smoothly uniformly on compact sets to a complete Kähler Ricci flat metric on $M$. The main step is to obtain a uniform $C^0$-estimates for the corresponding parabolic Monge Ampère equation. Our results on this can be viewe…
We identify a set of "energy" functionals on the space of metrics in a given Kaehler class on a Calabi-Yau manifold, which are bounded below and minimized uniquely on the Ricci-flat metric in that class. Using these functionals, we recast the problem of numerically solving the Einstein equation as an optimization problem. We apply this strategy, using the "algebraic" metrics (metrics for which the Kaehler potential is given in terms of a polynomial in the projective coordinates), to the Fermat quartic and to a one-parameter family of quintics that includes the Fermat and conifold quintics. We …
Let (E,D,P) be a flat vector bundle with a parabolic structure over a punctured Riemann surface, (M,g). We consider a deformation of the harmonic metric equation which we call the Poisson metric equation. This equation arises naturally as the dimension reduction of the Hermitian-Yang-Mills equation for holomorphic vector bundles on K3 surfaces in the large complex structure limit. We define a notion of slope stability, and show that if the flat connection D has regular singularities, and the Riemannian metric g has finite volume then E admits a Poisson metric with asymptotics determined by the…
The infinitesimal symmetry algebra of any Cartan geometry has maximum dimension realized by the flat model, but often this dimension drops significantly when considering non-flat geometries, so a gap phenomenon arises. For general (regular, normal) parabolic geometries of type (G,P), we use Tanaka theory to derive a universal upper bound on the submaximal symmetry dimension. We use Kostant's version of the Bott-Borel-Weil theorem to show that this bound is in fact sharp in almost all complex and split-real cases by exhibiting (abstract) models. We explicitly compute all submaximal symmetry dim…

Ricci flat metrics for Calabi-Yau threefolds are not known analytically. In this work, we employ techniques from machine learning to deduce numerical flat metrics for the Fermat quintic, for the Dwork quintic, and for the Tian-Yau manifold. This investigation employs a single neural network architecture that is capable of approximating Ricci flat Kaehler metrics for several Calabi-Yau manifolds of dimensions two and three. We show that measures that assess the Ricci flatness of the geometry decrease after training by three orders of magnitude. This is corroborated on the validation set, where …
Through the study of some elliptic and parabolic fully nonlinear PDEs, we establish conformal versions of quermassintegral inequality, the Sobolev inequality and the Moser-Trudinger inequality for the geometric quantities associated to the Schouten tensor on locally conformally flat manifolds.
We determine local topological types of binary differential equations of asymptotic curves at parabolic and flat umbilical points for generic $2$-parameter families of surfaces in $\mathbb P^3$ by comparing our projective classification of Monge forms and classification of general BDE obtained by Tari and Oliver. In particular, generic bifurcations of the parabolic curve are classified. The flecnodal curve is also examined by direct computations, and we present new bifurcation diagrams in typical examples.
In this paper we study a novel class of parabolic geometries which we call parabolic geometries of Monge type. These parabolic geometries are defined by special gradings of simple Lie algebras, namely, gradings with the property that their -1 component contains a nonzero co-dimension 1 abelian subspace whose bracket with its complement is non-degenerate. We completely classify the simple Lie algebras with such gradings in terms of elementary properties of the defining set of simple roots. We then characterize those parabolic geometries of Monge type which are non-rigid in the sense that, apart…
Given a generic stable strongly parabolic $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$-Higgs bundle $(\mathcal{E}, φ)$, we describe the family of harmonic metrics $h_t$ for the ray of Higgs bundles $(\mathcal{E}, t φ)$ for $t\gg0$ by perturbing from an explicitly constructed family of approximate solutions $h_t^{\mathrm{app}}$. We then describe the natural hyperKähler metric on $\mathcal{M}$ by comparing it to a simpler "semi-flat" hyperKähler metric. We prove that $g_{L^2} - g_{\mathrm{sf}} = O(\mathrm{e}^{-γt})$ along a generic ray, proving a version of Gaiotto-Moore-Neitzke's conjecture. Our results extend to weakly…
We derive a formula for the L^2 norm of the scalar curvature of any extremal Kaehler metric on a compact toric manifold, stated purely in terms of the geometry of the corresponding moment polytope. The main interest of this formula pertains to the case of complex dimension 2, where it plays a key role in construction of Bach-flat metrics on appropriate 4-manifolds.
