In this paper we study a novel class of parabolic geometries which we call parabolic geometries of Monge type. These parabolic geometries are defined by special gradings of simple Lie algebras, namely, gradings with the property that their -1 component contains a nonzero co-dimension 1 abelian subspace whose bracket with its complement is non-degenerate. We completely classify the simple Lie algebras with such gradings in terms of elementary properties of the defining set of simple roots. We then characterize those parabolic geometries of Monge type which are non-rigid in the sense that, apart from the flat models, they have nonzero harmonic curvatures in positive weights. Standard models of all non-rigid parabolic geometries of Monge type are then described by under-determined ODE systems. The full symmetry algebras for these under-determined ODE systems are explicitly calculated; surprisingly, these symmetries are all just prolonged point symmetries.
We prove the long time existence and uniqueness of solution to a parabolic Monge-Ampère type equation on compact Hermitian manifolds. We also show that the normalization of the solution converges to a smooth function in the smooth topology as $t$ approaches infinity which, up to scaling, is the solution to a Monge-Ampère type equation. This gives a parabolic proof of the Gauduchon conjecture based on the solution of Székelyhidi, Tosatti and Weinkove to this conjecture.
We prove the long time existence and uniqueness of solutions to the parabolic Monge-Ampère equation on compact almost Hermitian manifolds. We also show that the normalization of solution converges to a smooth function in $C^{\infty}$ topology as $t\rightarrow\infty$. Up to scaling, the limit function is a solution of the Monge-Ampère equation. This gives a parabolic proof of existence of solutions to the Monge-Ampère equation on almost Hermitian manifolds.
In this paper, we consider a version of parabolic complex Monge-Ampere equations, and use a PDE approach similar to Phong et al to establish $L^{\infty}$ and Hölder estimates. We also generalize the $L^{\infty}$ estimates to parabolic Hessian equations.
We consider the natural generalization of the parabolic Monge-Ampère equation to HKT geometry. We prove that in the compact case the equation has always a short-time solution and when the hypercomplex manifold is locally flat and admits a hyperkähler metric, then the equation has a long-time solution whose normalization converges to a solution of the quaternionic Monge-Ampère equation introduced by Alesker and Verbitsky. The result gives an alternative proof of a theorem of Alesker.
Distributions of Monge type are a class of strongly regular bracket-generating distributions introduced by I. Anderson, Zh. Nie and P. Nurowski. Their symbol algebras prolong to simple graded Lie algebras, thus allowing one to associate a parabolic geometry to any given Monge distribution. This article is devoted to the classification problem for homogeneous models of Monge distributions of type C3 in dimension eight, and is complementary to a paper by I. Anderson and P. Nurowski. The general classification algorithm, as well as most of its application to the particular problem, are joint work…
We develop the first steps of a parabolic pluripotential theory in bounded strongly pseudo-convex domains of Cn. We study certain degenerate parabolic complex Monge-Amp{è}re equations, modelled on the K{ä}hler-Ricci flow evolving on complex algebraic varieties with Kawamata log-terminal singularities. Under natural assumptions on the Cauchy-Dirichlet boundary data, we show that the envelope of pluripotential subsolutions is semi-concave in time and continuous in space, and provides the unique pluripotential solution with such regularity.
We establish a stability result for elliptic and parabolic complex Monge-Amp{è}re equations on compact K{ä}hler manifolds, which applies in particular to the K{ä}hler-Ricci flow. Dedicated to Jean-Pierre Demailly on the occasion of his 60th birthday.
I consider the geometry of the general class of scalar 2nd-order differential equations with parabolic symbol, including non-linear and non-evolutionary parabolic equations. After defining the appropriate $G$-structure to model parabolic equations, I apply Cartan techniques to determine local geometric invariants (quantities invariant up to a generalized change of variables). One family of invariants gives a geometric characterization for parabolic equation of Monge-Ampère type. A second family of invariants determines when a parabolic equation has a local choice of coordinates putting it in e…
We determine local topological types of binary differential equations of asymptotic curves at parabolic and flat umbilical points for generic $2$-parameter families of surfaces in $\mathbb P^3$ by comparing our projective classification of Monge forms and classification of general BDE obtained by Tari and Oliver. In particular, generic bifurcations of the parabolic curve are classified. The flecnodal curve is also examined by direct computations, and we present new bifurcation diagrams in typical examples.
We study a geometry associated with rank 3 distributions in dimension 8, whose symbol algebra is constant and has a simple Lie algebra sp(3,R) as Tanaka prolongation. We restrict our considerations to only those distributions that are defined in terms of a systems of ODEs of the form $\dot{z}_{ij}=\frac{\partial^2 f(\dot{x}_1,\dot{x}_2)}{\partial \dot{x}_i\partial \dot{x}_j}$, $i\leq j=1,2$. For them we built the full system of local differential invariants, by solving an equivalence problem a'la Cartan, in the spirit of his 1910's five variable paper. The considered geometry is a parabolic ge…
In this paper we prove rigidity results for two-dimensional, closed, immersed, non-necessarily convex, self-similar solutions of a wide class of fully non-linear parabolic flows in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We show this self-similar solutions are the round spheres centered at the origin provided it has genus zero and satisfies a suitable upper pinching estimate for the Gaussian curvature. As applications, we obtain rigidity results for the round sphere as the only closed, immersed, genus zero, self-similar solution of several well known flows, as the flow of the powers of mean curvature, the harmonic me…
