A result from Gromov ensures the existence of a contact structure on any connected non-compact odd dimensional Lie group. But in general such structures are not invariant under left translations of the Lie group. The problem of finding which Lie groups admit a left invariant contact structure (contact Lie groups), is then still open. While Lie groups with left invariant symplectic structures are widely studied by a number of authors (amongst which A. Lichnerowicz; E.B. Vinberg; I.I. Pjateckii-Sapiro; S. G. Gindikin; A. Medina; Ph. Revoy; M. Goze, J. Dorfmeister; K. Nakajima; etc.), contact Lie groups still remain quite unexplored. We perform a `contactization' method to construct, in every odd dimension, many contact Lie groups with a discrete centre and discuss some applications and consequences of such a construction. We give classification results in low dimensions. In any dimension greater than or equal to 7, there are infinitely many locally non-isomorphic solvable contact Lie groups. We also classify and characterize contact Lie groups having some prescribed Riemannian or semi-Riemannian structure and derive some obstructions results.
We prove that a K-contact Lie group of dimension five or greater is the central extension of a symplectic Lie group by complexifying the Lie algebra and applying a result from complex contact geometry, namely, that, if the adjoint action of the complex Reeb vector field on a complex contact Lie algebra is diagonalizable, then it is trivial.
We provide a classification of $ts$-invariant sub-Lorentzian structures on $3$ dimensional contact Lie groups. Our approach is based on invariants arising form the construction of a normal Cartan connection.
In this paper, left-invariant almost contact metric structures on three-dimensional non-unimodular Lie groups are investigated. It is proved that for every Riemannian Lie group, there is one of these structures. In addition, left-invariant normal almost contact metric structures on three dimensional non-unimodular Lie groups are classified.
A special symplectic Lie group is a triple $(G,ω,\nabla)$ such that $G$ is a finite-dimensional real Lie group and $ω$ is a left invariant symplectic form on $G$ which is parallel with respect to a left invariant affine structure $\nabla$. In this paper starting from a special symplectic Lie group we show how to ``deform" the standard Lie group structure on the (co)tangent bundle through the left invariant affine structure $\nabla$ such that the resulting Lie group admits families of left invariant hypersymplectic structures and thus becomes a hypersymplectic Lie group. We consider the affine …
We study left invariant contact forms and left invariant symplectic forms on Lie groups. We give the classification of all symplectic structures on nilpotent Lie algebras up the dimension 6.
We determine all Ricci flat left invariant Lorentzian metrics on simply connected 2-step nilpotent Lie groups. We show that the $2k+1$-dimensional Heisenberg Lie group $H_{2k+1}$ carries a Ricci flat left invariant Lorentzian metric if and only if $k=1$. We show also that for any $2\leq q\leq k$, $H_{2k+1}$ carries a Ricci flat left invariant pseudo-Riemannian metric of signature $(q,2k+1-q)$ and we give explicite examples of such metrics.
We call the Lie algebra of a Lie group with a left invariant pseudo-Riemannian flat metric pseudo-Riemannian flat Lie algebra. We give a new proof of a classical result of Milnor on Riemannian flat Lie algebras. We reduce the study of Lorentzian flat Lie algebras to those with trivial center or those with degenerate center. We show that the double extension process can be used to construct all Lorentzian flat Lie algebras with degenerate center generalizing a result of Aubert-Medina on Lorentzian flat nilpotent Lie algebras. Finally, we give the list of Lorentzian flat Lie algebras with degene…
In this paper we identify all simply connected 3-dimensional real Lie groups which admit Randers or Matsumoto metrics of Berwald type with a certain underlying left invariant Riemannian metric. Then we give their flag curvatures formulas explicitly.
We study Lie algebras of generators of infinitesimal symmetries of almost-cosymplectic-contact structures of odd dimensional manifolds. The almost-cosymplectic-contact structure admits on the sheaf of pairs of 1-forms and functions the structure of a Lie algebra. We describe Lie subalgebras in this Lie algebra given by pairs generating infinitesimal symmetries of basic tensor fields given by the almost-cosymplectic-contact structure.
We investigate contact Lie groups having a left invariant Riemannian or pseudo-Riemannian metric with specific properties such as being bi-invariant, flat, negatively curved, Einstein, etc. We classify some of such contact Lie groups and derive some obstruction results to the existence of left invariant contact structures on Lie groups
In this paper we study some affine structures on nilpotent Lie algebras endowed with a contact form. These affine structures are constructed from an affine structure on a symplectic Lie algebra by a central extension.
In this paper we generalize the main notions from the geometry of (almost) contact manifolds in the category of Lie algebroids. Also, using the framework of generalized geometry, we obtain an (almost) contact Riemannian Lie algebroid structure on a vertical Liouville distribution over the big-tangent manifold of a Riemannain manifold.
The object of investigation are Lie groups considered as almost contact B-metric manifolds of the lowest dimension three. It is established a correspondence of all basic-class-manifolds of the Ganchev-Mihova-Gribachev classification of the studied manifolds and the explicit matrix representation of Lie groups. Some known Lie groups are equiped with almost contact B-metric structure of different types.
Let $G$ be a Lie group equipped with a left invariant Randers metric of Berward type $F$, with underlying left invariant Riemannian metric $g$. Suppose that $\widetilde{F}$ and $\widetilde{g}$ are lifted Randers and Riemannian metrics arising from $F$ and $g$ on the tangent Lie group $TG$ by vertical and complete lifts. In this article we study the relations between the flag curvature of the Randers manifold $(TG,\widetilde{F})$ and the sectional curvature of the Riemannian manifold $(G,g)$ when $\widetilde{F}$ is of Berwald type. Then we give all simply connected $3$-dimentional Lie groups su…
We study the question of the existence of left-invariant Sasaki contact structures on the seven-dimensional nilpotent Lie groups. It is shown that the only Lie group allowing Sasaki structure with a positive definite metric tensor is the Heisenberg group. We find a complete list of the 22 classes of seven-dimensional nilpotent Lie groups which admit pseudo-Sasaki structure. We also present a list of 25 classes of seven-dimensional nilpotent Lie groups admitting a $K$-contact structure, but not the pseudo-Sasaki structure. All the contact structures considered are central extensions of six-dime…
We show that any left invariant metric with harmonic curvature on a solvable Lie group is Ricci-parallel. We show the same result for any Lie group of dimension $\leq$ 6.
We give a complete classification of left invariant para-Kähler structures on four-dimensional simply connected Lie groups up to an automorphism. As an application we discuss some curvatures properties of the canonical connection associated to these structures as flat, Ricci flat and existence of Ricci solitons.
This paper investigates the geometry of compact contact manifolds that are uniformized by contact Lie groups, i.e., compact manifolds that are the quotient of some Lie group G with a left invariant contact structure and a uniform lattice subgroup. We re-examine Alexander's criteria for existence of lattices on solvable Lie groups and apply them, along with some other well known tools, and use these results to prove that, in dimension 5, there are exactly seven connected and simply connected contact Lie groups with uniform lattices, all of which are solvable. Issues of symplectic boundaries are…
Almost contact B-metric manifolds of dimension 3 are constructed by a two-parametric family of Lie groups. The class of these manifolds in a known classification of almost contact B-metric manifolds is determined as the direct sum of the main vertical classes. The type of the corresponding Lie algebras in the Bianchi classification is given. Some geometric characteristics and properties of the considered manifolds are obtained.
Lie contact structures generalize the classical Lie sphere geometry of oriented hyperspheres in the standard sphere. They can be equivalently described as parabolic geometries corresponding to the contact grading of orthogonal real Lie algebra. It follows the underlying geometric structure can be interpreted in several equivalent ways. In particular, we show this is given by a split-quaternionic structure on the contact distribution, which is compatible with the Levi bracket. In this vein, we study the geometry of chains, a distinguished family of curves appearing in any parabolic contact geom…
The object of investigation are the almost contact manifolds with B-metric in the lowest dimension three, constructed on Lie algebras. It is considered a relation between the classes in the Bianchi classification of three-dimensional real Lie algebras and the classes of a classification of the considered manifolds. There are studied some geometrical characteristics in some special classes.
For a stratified group $G$, we construct a class of polarised Lie groups, which we call modifications of $G$, that are locally contactomorphic to it. Vice versa, we show that if a polarised group is locally contactomorphic to a stratified group $G$, whose Lie algebra has finite Tanaka prolongation, then it must be a modification of $G$.
Almost contact manifolds with B-metric are considered. There are studied three natural connections (i.e. linear connections preserving the structure tensors) determined by conditions for their torsions. These connections are investigated on a family of Lie groups considered as 5-dimensional almost contact B-metric manifolds.
We call a connected Lie group endowed with a left-invariant Lorentzian flat metric Lorentzian flat Lie group. In this Note, we determine all Lorentzian flat Lie groups admitting a timelike left-invariant Killing vector field. We show that these Lie groups are 2-solvable and unimodular and hence geodesically complete. Moreover, we show that a Lorentzian flat Lie group $(\mathrm{G},μ)$ admits a timelike left-invariant Killing vector field if and only if $\mathrm{G}$ admits a left-invariant Riemannian metric which has the same Levi-Civita connection of $μ$. Finally, we give an useful characteriza…
In this paper, we introduce a notion of a left-symmetric algebroid, which is a generalization of a left-symmetric algebra from a vector space to a vector bundle. The left multiplication gives rise to a representation of the corresponding sub-adjacent Lie algebroid. We construct left-symmetric algebroids from $\mathcal O$-operators on Lie algebroids. We study phase spaces of Lie algebroids in terms of left-symmetric algebroids. Representations of left-symmetric algebroids are studied in detail. At last, we study deformations of left-symmetric algebroids, which could be controlled by the second …
The object of investigations are almost contact B-metric structures on 3-dimensional Lie groups considered as smooth manifolds. There are established the existence and some geometric characteristics of these manifolds in all basic classes. An example is given as a support of obtained results.
The paper is devoted to the complete classification of all real Lie algebras of contact vector fields on the first jet space of one-dimensional submanifolds in the plane. This completes Sophus Lie's classification of all possible Lie algebras of contact symmetries for ordinary differential equations. As a main tool we use the abstract theory of filtered and graded Lie algebras. We also describe all differential and integral invariants of new Lie algebras found in the paper and discuss the infinite-dimensional case.
In this paper, we classify Left-invariant Ricci collineations associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups.
We prove that any real Lie group of dimension \leq 5 admits a left invariant flat projective structure. We also prove that a real Lie group L of dimension \leq 5 admits a left invariant flat affine structure if and only if the Lie algebra of L is not perfect.
Three-dimensional almost contact B-metric manifolds are constructed by a three-parametric family of Lie groups. It is established the class of the investigated manifolds which has an important geometrical interpretation. It is determined also the type of the constructed Lie algebras in the Bianchi classification. There are given some geometric characteristics and properties of the considered manifolds.
To determine the Lie groups that admit a flat (eventually complete) left invariant semi-Riemannian metric is an open and difficult problem. The main aim of this paper is the study of the flatness of left invariant semi Riemannian metrics on quadratic Lie groups i.e. Lie groups endowed with a bi-invariant semi Riemannian metric. We give a useful necessary and sufficient condition that guaranties the flatness of a left invariant semi Riemannian metric defined on a quadratic Lie group. All these semi Riemannian metrics are complete. We show that there are no Riemannian or Lorentzian flat left inv…
We answer in the affirmative a question posed by Ivanov and Vassilev on the existence of a seven dimensional quaternionic contact manifold with closed fundamental 4-form and non-vanishing torsion endomorphism. Moreover, we show an approach to the classification of seven dimensional solvable Lie groups having an integrable left invariant quaternionic contact structure. In particular, we prove that the unique seven dimensional nilpotent Lie group admitting such a structure is the quaternionic Heisenberg group.
We find the index of symmetry for all solvable three-dimensional Lie groups with a left-invariant metric. When combined with the work of Reggiani on unimodular three-dimensional Lie groups, the index of symmetry is then known for all three-dimensional Lie groups with a left-invariant metric. Similar to the unimodular case, for every solvable three-dimensional Lie algebra there is at least one left-invariant metric for which the index of symmetry is positive. Also, the index is never equal to 2.
Left invariant affine structures in a Lie group $G$ are in one-to-one correspondence with left-symmetric algebras over its Lie algebra $\mathfrak g=T_eG$ (``over'' means that the commutator $[x,y]=xy-yx$ coincides with the Lie bracket; left-symmetric algebras can be defined as Lie-admissible algebras such that the multiplication by left defines a representation of the underlying Lie algebra). An affine structure (and the corresponding left symmetric algebra) is complete if $G$ is affinely equivalent to $\mathfrak g$. By the main result of this paper, a complete left symmetric algebra admits a …
In this paper we consider symplectic and contact Lie algebras. We define contactization and symplectization procedures and describe its main properties. We also give classification of such algebras in dimensions 3 and 4. The classification in dimension~4 is closely connected with normal forms of nondegenerate elliptic equations of the second order on two-dimensional surfaces with transitive symmetry group in first jets. We point out this connection and discuss normal forms.
In this paper, we shall use a method based on the theory of extensions of left-symmetric algebras to classify complete left-invariant affine real structures on solvable non-unimodular three-dimensional Lie groups.
In the presented paper left-invariant pseudo-Riemannian metrics on four-dimensional Lie groups with zero Schouten-Weyl tensor are investigated. The complete classification of these metric Lie groups is obtained in terms of the structure constants of corresponding Lie algebras.
In this paper, we formulate a procedure to obtain a generalization of Milnor frames for left-invariant pseudo-Riemannian metrics on a given Lie group. This procedure is an analogue of the recent studies on left-invariant Riemannian metrics, and is based on the moduli space of left-invariant pseudo-Riemannian metrics. As one of applications, we show that any left-invariant pseudo-Riemannian metrics of arbitrary signature on the Lie groups of real hyperbolic spaces have constant sectional curvatures.
In this paper, we present the classification of all possible signatures of the Ricci curvature of left-invariant Riemannian metrics on 4-dimensional Lie groups and discuss some related questions.
The space $\mathcal{Z}$ of leftinvariant orthogonal almost complex structures, keeping the orientation, on 6-dimensional Lie groups is researched. To get explicit view of this space elements the isomorphism of $\mathcal{Z}$ and $\mathbb{C}P^3$ is used. The explicit formula for arbitrary leftinvariant orthogonal almost complex structure on 6-dimensional Lie group as composition of rotations is found.
We find three-dimensional subspaces of four-dimensional connected Lie algebras, generating these algebras, and abnormal extremals on connected Lie groups with these Lie algebras and with left-invariant sub-Finsler quasimetrics defined by seminorms on such subspaces. In terms of the structure constants of Lie algebras and dual seminorms, we establish a criterion for the strong abnormality of these extremals.
We consider deformations of left-invariant complex structures on simply connected semisimple compact Lie groups which are a priori non-invariant. Computing their cohomologies, we show that they are not actually biholomorphic to left-invariant (right-invariant) complex structures.
For all left-invariant Riemannian metrics on three-dimensional unimodular Lie groups, there exist particular left-invariant orthonormal frames, so-called Milnor frames. In this paper, for any left-invariant Riemannian metrics on any Lie groups, we give a procedure to obtain an analogous of Milnor frames, in the sense that the bracket relations among them can be written with relatively smaller number of parameters. Our procedure is based on the moduli space of left-invariant Riemannian metrics. Some explicit examples of such frames and applications will also be given.
We give a complete classification of left invariant generalized complex structures of type 1 on four dimensional simply connected Lie groups and we compute for each class its invariant generalized Dolbeault cohomology, its invariant generalized Bott-Chern cohomology and its invariant generalized Aeppli cohomology. We classify also left invariant generalized Kähler structures on four dimensional simply connected Lie groups.
