Left invariant affine structures in a Lie group $G$ are in one-to-one correspondence with left-symmetric algebras over its Lie algebra $\mathfrak g=T_eG$ (``over'' means that the commutator $[x,y]=xy-yx$ coincides with the Lie bracket; left-symmetric algebras can be defined as Lie-admissible algebras such that the multiplication by left defines a representation of the underlying Lie algebra). An affine structure (and the corresponding left symmetric algebra) is complete if $G$ is affinely equivalent to $\mathfrak g$. By the main result of this paper, a complete left symmetric algebra admits a canonical decomposition: there is a Cartan subalgebra $\mathfrak h$ such that the root subspaces for the representations $L$ (by left multiplications) and $\ad$ coincide. Then operators $L(x)$ and $\ad(x)$ have equal semisimple parts for all $x\in\mathfrak h$. This decomposition is unique. For simple complete left-symmetric algebras whose canonical decomposition consists of one dimensional spaces we define two types of graphs and prove some their properties. This makes possible to describe, for dimensions less or equal to 5, these graphs and algebras.
As a continuation of previous papers, we study the concept of a Lie algebroid structure on an affine bundle by means of the canonical immersion of the affine bundle into its bidual. We pay particular attention to the prolongation and various lifting procedures, and to the geometrical construction of Lagrangian-type dynamics on an affine Lie algebroid.
We introduce the notion of a Lie algebroid structure on an affine bundle whose base manifold is fibred over the real numbers. It is argued that this is the framework which one needs for coming to a time-dependent generalization of the theory of Lagrangian systems on Lie algebroids. An extensive discussion is given of a way one can think of forms acting on sections of the affine bundle. It is further shown that the affine Lie algebroid structure gives rise to a coboundary operator on such forms. The concept of admissible curves and dynamical systems whose integral curves are admissible, brings …
In this paper we study some affine structures on nilpotent Lie algebras endowed with a contact form. These affine structures are constructed from an affine structure on a symplectic Lie algebra by a central extension.
Natural analogs of Lie brackets on affine bundles are studied, based on natural examples from differential geometry and analytical mechanics. In particular, a close relation to Lie algebroids and, by a sort of duality, to affine analogs of Poisson structures is established as well as affine versions of the complete lift of a section and the Cartan exterior calculus.
The complete affine structures on abelian Lie algebras in small dimensions are well known. In this paper we are interested by the non complete case. In particular we classify all these structures in dimensions 2 and 3.
We give some examples of non-complete invariant affine connections on nilpotent and filiform Lie groups. This permits to describe non-nilpotent faithful representations on the model of filiform n-dimensional Lie algebras and, in particular, on the 3 dimensional Heisenberg algebra.
The purpose of this paper is to use the framework of Lie algebroids to study optimal control problems for affine connection control systems on Lie groups. In this context, the equations for critical trajectories of the problem are geometrically characterized as a Hamiltonian vector field.
We introduce post-Lie algebra structures on pairs of Lie algebras $(\Lg,\Ln)$ defined on a fixed vector space $V$. Special cases are LR-structures and pre-Lie algebra structures on Lie algebras. We show that post-Lie algebra structures naturally arise in the study of NIL-affine actions on nilpotent Lie groups. We obtain several results on the existence of post-Lie algebra structures, in terms of the algebraic structure of the two Lie algebras $\Lg$ and $\Ln$. One result is, for example, that if there exists a post-Lie algebra structure on $(\Lg,\Ln)$, where $\Lg$ is nilpotent, then $\Ln$ must …
This paper deals essentially with affine or projective transformations of Lie groups endowed with a flat left invariant affine or projective structure. These groups are called flat affine or flat projective Lie groups. Our main results determine Lie groups admitting flat bi-invariant affine or projective structures. These groups could play an essential role in the study of homogeneous spaces $M=G/H$ admitting flat affine or flat projective structures invariant under the natural action of $G$ on $M$. A. Medina asked several years ago if the group of affine transformations of a flat affine Lie g…
We obtain a characterization of the real Lie algebras admitting abelian complex structures in terms of certain affine Lie algebras $\frak a \frak f \frak f (A)$, where $A$ is a commutative algebra. These affine Lie algebras are natural generalizations of $\frak a \frak f \frak f (\Bbb C)$ and the corresponding Lie groups are complex affine manifolds. It turns out that all 4-dimensional Lie algebras carrying abelian complex structures are central extensions of such affine Lie algebras.
We give a new characterization of flat affine manifolds in terms of an action of the Lie algebra of classical infinitesimal affine transformations on the bundle of linear frames. We characterize flat affine symplectic Lie groups using symplectic étale affine representations and as a consequence of this, we show that a flat affine symplectic Lie group with bi-invariant symplectic connection contains a nontrivial one parameter subgroup formed by central translations. We give two methods for constructing flat affine symplectic Lie groups, thus obtaining all those having bi-invariant symplectic co…
In this paper we exhibit a family of flat left invariant affine structures on the double Lie group of the oscillator Lie group of dimension 4, associated to each solution of classical Yang-Baxter equation given by Boucetta and Medina. On the other hand, using Koszul's method, we prove the existence of an immersion of Lie groups between the group of affine transformations of a flat affine and simply connected manifold and the classical group of affine transformations of $\mathbb{R}^n$. In the last section, for each flat left invariant affine symplectic connection on the group of affine transfor…
Affine structures on a Lie groupoid, including affine $k$-vector fields, $k$-forms and $(p,q)$-tensors are studied. We show that the space of affine structures is a 2-vector space over the space of multiplicative structures. Moreover, the space of affine multivector fields has a natural graded strict Lie 2-algebra structure and affine (1,1)-tensors constitute a strict monoidal category. Such higher structures can be seen as the categorification of multiplicative structures on a Lie groupoid.
In this paper, we classify affine Ricci solitons associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections and perturbed canonical connections and perturbed Kobayashi-Nomizu connections on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with some product structure.
In this paper, we compute the Bott connections and their curvature on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with three different distributions, and we classify affine Ricci solitons associated to the Bott connection on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with three different distributions.
We generalize the Uhlenbeck-Segal theory for harmonic maps into compact semi-simple Lie groups to general Lie groups equipped with torsion free bi-invariant connection.
To any connected and simply connected nilpotent Lie group N, one can associate its group of affine transformations Aff(N). In this paper, we study simply transitive actions of a given nilpotent Lie group G on another nilpotent Lie group N, via such affine transformations. We succeed in translating the existence question of such a simply transitive affine action to a corresponding question on the Lie algebra level. As an example of the possible use of this translation, we then consider the case where dim(G)=dim(N) less than 6. Finally, we specialize to the case of abelian simply transitive affi…
We prove that any real Lie group of dimension \leq 5 admits a left invariant flat projective structure. We also prove that a real Lie group L of dimension \leq 5 admits a left invariant flat affine structure if and only if the Lie algebra of L is not perfect.
In this paper, we shall use a method based on the theory of extensions of left-symmetric algebras to classify complete left-invariant affine real structures on solvable non-unimodular three-dimensional Lie groups.
In order to understand the structure of the cohomologies involved in the study of projectively equivariant quantizations, we introduce a notion of affine representation of a Lie algebra. We show how it is related to linear representations and 1-cohomology classes of the algebra. We classify the affine representations of the Lie algebra of vector fields of a smooth manifold associated to its action on symmetric tensor fields of type (1,2). Among them, we recover the space of symmetric affine linear connections and that of projective structures of the manifold. We compute some of the associated c…
This paper deals with affine connections on real manifolds. We give a new characterization of flat affine connections on real manifolds by means of certain affine representations of the Lie group of automorphisms preserving the connection. Then we specialize the characterization to the case of a left invariant connection on a Lie group. In the last case, we show the existence of a Lie group endowed with a flat affine bi-invariant connection whose Lie algebra contains the Lie algebra of complete infinitesimal affine transformations of the given Lie group. We also prove some results about flat a…
Let G be a Lie group with Lie algebra $ \Cal G: = T_εG$ and $T^*G = \Cal G^* \rtimes G$ its cotangent bundle considered as a Lie group, where G acts on $\Cal G^*$ via the coadjoint action. We show that there is a 1-1 correspondance between the skew-symmetric solutions $r\in \wedge^2 \Cal G$ of the Classical Yang-Baxter Equation in G, and the set of connected Lie subgroups of $T^*G$ which carry a left invariant affine structure and whose Lie algebras are lagrangian graphs in $ \Cal G \oplus \Cal G^*$. An invertible solution r endows G with a left invariant symplectic structure and hence a left …
In this paper, we classify three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups on which Ricci tensors associated to Bott connections, canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections are Codazzi tensors associated to these connections. We also classify three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie group with the quasi-statistical structure associated to Bott connections, canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections.
In this paper, we give a general group-theoretic construction of affine $\RR$-buildings, and more generally, of affine $Λ$-buildings, associated to semisimple Lie groups over nonarchimedean real closed fields. The construction of Kleiner-Leeb using the asymptotic cone of a Riemannian symmetric space appears as a special case. The explicit knowledge of the building arising here as the asymptotic cone simplifies the proof of the Margulis conjecture due to Kleiner-Leeb.
