We study symplectic structures on characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras (CNLAs) by computing the cohomology space $H^2(\Lg,k)$ for certain Lie algebras $\Lg$. Among these Lie algebras are filiform CNLAs of dimension $n\le 14$. It turns out that there are many examples of CNLAs which admit a symplectic structure. We continue the study of twisting of affine algebraic groups G (i.e., of Hopf 2-cocycles J for the function algebra O(G)), which was started in [EG1,EG2], and initiate the study of the associated one-sided twisted function algebras O(G)_J. In this paper we classify up to affine equivalence all local tube realizations of real hyperquadrics in C^n. We show that this problem can be reduced to the classification, up to isomorphism, of commutative nilpotent real and complex algebras. First, we derive an explicit formula for the Poisson bracket of the classical finite W-algebra W^{fin}(g,f), the algebra of polynomial functions on the Slodowy slice associated to a simple Lie algebra g and its nilpotent element f. On the other hand, we produce an explicit set of generators and we derive an explicit formula for the Poisson vertex algebra structure of the classical affine W-algebra W(g,f).
