We study Novikov algebras and Novikov structures on finite-dimensional Lie algebras. We show that a Lie algebra admitting a Novikov structure must be solvable. Conversely we present an example of a nilpotent 2-step solvable Lie algebra without any Novikov structure. We construct Novikov structures on certain Lie algebras via classical r-matrices and via extensions. In the latter case we lift Novikov structures on an abelian Lie algebra A and a Lie algebra B to certain extensions of B by A. We apply this to prove the existence of affine and Novikov structures on several classes of 2-step solvable Lie algebras. In particular we generalize a well known result of Scheuneman concerning affine structures on 3-step nilpotent Lie algebras.
For higher genus multi-point current algebras of Krichever-Novikov type associated to a finite-dimensional Lie algebra, local Lie algebra two-cocycles are studied. They yield as central extensions almost-graded higher genus affine Lie algebras. In case that the Lie algebra is reductive a complete classification is given. For a simple Lie algebra, like in the classical situation, there is up to equivalence and rescaling only one non-trivial almost-graded central extension. The classification is extended to the algebras of meromorphic differential operators of order less or equal one on the curr…
We study a twisted generalization of Novikov algebras, called Hom-Novikov algebras, in which the two defining identities are twisted by a linear map. It is shown that Hom-Novikov algebras can be obtained from Novikov algebras by twisting along any algebra endomorphism. All algebra endomorphisms on complex Novikov algebras of dimensions two or three are computed, and their associated Hom-Novikov algebras are described explicitly. Another class of Hom-Novikov algebras is constructed from Hom-commutative algebras together with a derivation, generalizing a construction due to Dorfman and Gel'fand.…
Classically important examples of Lie superalgebras have been constructed starting from the Witt and Virasoro algebra. In this article we consider Lie superalgebras of Krichever-Novikov type. These algebras are multi-point and higher genus equivalents. The grading in the classical case is replaced by an almost-grading. The almost-grading is determined by a splitting of the set of points were poles are allowed into two disjoint subsets. With respect to a fixed splitting, or equivalently with respect to an almost-grading, it is shown that there is up to rescaling and equivalence a unique non-tri…
We construct algebraic-geometric families of genus one (i.e. elliptic) current and affine Lie algebras of Krichever-Novikov type. These families deform the classical current, respectively affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras. The construction is induced by the geometric process of degenerating the elliptic curve to singular cubics. If the finite-dimensional Lie algebra defining the infinite dimensional current algebra is simple then, even if restricted to local families, the constructed families are non-equivalent to the trivial family. In particular, we show that the current algebra is geometrically…
Let $\mathcal{R}$ be a free Lie conformal algebra of rank $2$ with $\mathbb{C}[\partial]$-basis $\{L,I\}$ and relations \begin{eqnarray*} \left[L_λ L\right]=(\partial+2 λ) (L+I),\ \left[L_λ I\right]=(\partial+λ) I, \ \left[I_λ L\right]=λI,\ \left[I_λ I\right]=0. \end{eqnarray*} In this paper, we first classify all finite nontrivial irreducible conformal modules over $\mathcal{R}$. Then we determine extensions between two finite irreducible conformal $\mathcal{R}$-modules.
We show how the recently again discussed $N$-point Witt, Virasoro, and affine Lie algebras are genus zero examples of the multi-point versions of Krichever--Novikov type algebras as introduced and studied by Schlichenmaier. Using this more general point of view, useful structural insights and an easier access to calculations can be obtained. The concept of almost-grading will yield information about triangular decompositions which are of importance in the theory of representations. As examples the algebra of functions, vector fields, differential operators, current algebras, affine Lie algebra…
We introduce a dual notion of the Poisson algebra by exchanging the roles of the two binary operations in the Leibniz rule defining the Poisson algebra. We show that the transposed Poisson algebra thus defined not only shares common properties of the Poisson algebra, including the closure under taking tensor products and the Koszul self-duality as an operad, but also admits a rich class of identities. More significantly, a transposed Poisson algebra naturally arises from a Novikov-Poisson algebra by taking the commutator Lie algebra of the Novikov algebra. Consequently, the classic constructio…
We find the Lie point symmetries of the Novikov equation and demonstrate that it is strictly self-adjoint. Using the self-adjointness and the recent technique for constructing conserved vectors associated with symmetries of differential equations, we find the conservation law corresponding to the dilations symmetry and show that other symmetries do not provide nontrivial conservation laws. Then we investigat the invariant solutions.
In two earlier articles we constructed algebraic-geometric families of genus one (i.e. elliptic) Lie algebras of Krichever-Novikov type. The considered algebras are vector fields, current and affine Lie algebras. These families deform the Witt algebra, the Virasoro algebra, the classical current, and the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras respectively. The constructed families are not equivalent (not even locally) to the trivial families, despite the fact that the classical algebras are formally rigid. This effect is due to the fact that the algebras are infinite dimensional. In this article the re…
We prove that a local Hamiltonian operator of hydrodynamic type K_1 is compatible with a nondegenerate local Hamiltonian operator of hydrodynamic type K_2 if and only if the operator K_1 is locally the Lie derivative of the operator K_2 along a vector field in the corresponding domain of local coordinates. This result gives a natural invariant definition of the class of special flat manifolds corresponding to all the class of compatible Dubrovin--Novikov Hamiltonian operators (the Frobenius--Dubrovin manifolds naturally belong to this class). There is an integrable bi-Hamiltonian hierarchy cor…
The symmetry algebra of the differential--difference equation $$\dot u_n = [P(u_n)u_{n+1}u_{n-1} + Q(u_n)(u_{n+1}+u_{n-1})+ R(u_n)]/(u_{n+1}-u_{n-1}),$$ where $P$, $Q$ and $R$ are arbitrary analytic functions is shown to have the dimension $1 \le \mbox{dim}L \le 5$. When $P$, $Q$ and $R$ are specific second order polynomials in $u_n$ (depending on 6 constants) this is the integrable discretization of the Krichever--Novikov equation. We find 3 cases when the arbitrary functions are not polynomials and the symmetry algebra satisfies $\mbox{dim}L=2$. These cases are shown not to be integrable. Th…
We finish the determination of the invariants of the coadjoint representation of six dimensional real Lie algebras, by determining a fundamental set of invariants for the 99 isomorphism classes of solvable Lie algebras with five dimensional nilradical. We also give some results on the invariants of solvable Lie algebras in arbitrary dimension whose nilradical has codimension one.
The recent study by Waclawczyk et al. [J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 50, 175501 (2017)] possesses three shortcomings: (i) The analysis misses a key aspect of the LMN equations which makes their Lie-group symmetry results incomplete. In particular, two essential symmetries will break when including this aspect. (ii) The statements on the constraints regarding the infinite-dimensional symmetry groups are misleading. (iii) The particular symmetries originating solely from the linearity of the LMN hierarchy violate the classical principle of cause and effect and therefore are unphysical. Within this Co…
We consider the coordinate ring of a hyperelliptic curve and let $\mathfrak{g}\otimes R$ be the corresponding current Lie algebra where $\mathfrak g$ is a finite dimensional simple Lie algebra defined over $\mathbb C$. We give a generator and relations description of the universal central extension of $\mathfrak{g}\otimes R$ in terms of certain families of polynomials $P_{k,i}$ and $Q_{k,i}$ and describe how the center $Ω_R/dR$ decomposes into a direct sum of irreducible representations when the automorphism group is $C_{2k}$ or $D_{2k}$.
We determine fundamental systems of invariants for complex solvable rigid Lie algebras having nonsplit nilradicals of characteristic sequence $(3,1,..,1)$, these algebras being the natural followers of solvable algebras having Heisenberg nilradicals. A special case of this allows us to obtain a criterion to determine the number of functionally independent invariants of rank one subalgebras of (real or complex) solvable Lie algebras. Finally, we give examples of the inverse procedure, obtaining fundamental systems of an algebra starting from rank one subalgebras.
The invariants of all complex solvable rigid Lie algebras up to dimension eight are computed. Moreover we show, for rank one solvable algebras, some criteria to deduce to non-existence of non-trivial invariants or the existence of fundamental sets of invariants formed by rational functions of the Casimir invariants of the associated nilradical.
All finite-dimensional indecomposable solvable Lie algebras $L(n,f)$, having the triangular algebra T(n) as their nilradical, are constructed. The number of nonnilpotent elements $f$ in $L(n,f)$ satisfies $1\leq f\leq n-1$ and the dimension of the Lie algebra is $\dim L(n,f)=f+{1/2}n(n-1)$.
A class of multi-component integrable systems associated to Novikov algebras, which interpolate between KdV and Camassa-Holm type equations, is obtained. The construction is based on the classification of low-dimensional Novikov algebras by Bai and Meng. These multi-component bi-Hamiltonian systems obtained by this construction may be interpreted as Euler equations on the centrally extended Lie algebras associated to the Novikov algebras. The related bilinear forms generating cocycles of first, second and third order are classified. Several examples, including known integrable equations, are p…
The author has previously shown that solvable Lie A-algebras and complemented solvable Lie algebras decompose as a vector space direct sum of abelian subalgebras, and their ideals relate nicely to this decomposition. However, neither of these classes is contained in the other. The object of this paper is to find a larger class of algebras, containing each of these classes, in which these same results hold.
Multi-point algebras of Krichever Novikov type for higher genus Riemann surfaces are generalisations of the Virasoro algebra and its related algebras. Complete existence and uniqueness results for local 2-cocycles defining almost-graded central extensions of the functions algebra, the vector field algebra, and the differential operator algebra (of degree \le 1) are shown. This is applied to the higher genus, multi-point affine algebras to obtain uniqueness for almost-graded central extensions of the current algebra of a simple finite-dimensional Lie algebra. An earlier conjecture of the author…
Using adjoint representation of Lie algebras, we calculate the automorphism group and ad-invariant metric on six dimensional solvable real Lie algebras with 5, 4 and 3 dimensional nilradicals.
In this paper, we shall classify ``quadratic'' conformal superalgebras by certain compatible pairs of a Lie superalgebra and a Novikov superalgebra.Four general constructions of such pairs are given. Moreover, we shall classify such pairs related to simple Novikov algebras.
We present a local and constructive differential geometric description of finite-dimensional solvable and transitive Lie algebras of vector fields. We show that it implies a Lie's conjecture for such Lie algebras. Also infinite-dimensional analytical solvable and transitive Lie algebras of vector fields whose derivative ideal is nilpotent can be adapted to this scheme.
We analyze symplectic forms on six dimensional real solvable and non-nilpotent Lie algebras. More precisely, we obtain all those algebras endowed with a symplectic form that decompose as the direct sum of two ideals or are indecomposable solvable algebras with a four dimensional nilradical.
A family of solvable self-dual Lie algebras is presented. There exist a few methods for the construction of non-reductive self-dual Lie algebras: an orthogonal direct product, a double-extension of an Abelian algebra, and a Wigner contraction. It is shown that the presented algebras cannot be obtained by these methods.
In this paper we introduce a two-component system, depending on a parameter $b$, which generalises the Camassa-Holm ($b=1$) and Novikov equations ($b=2$). By investigating its Lie algebra of classical and higher symmetries up to order $3$, we found that for $b\neq 2$ the system admits a $3$-dimensional algebra of point symmetries and apparently no higher symmetries, whereas for $b=2$ it has a $6$-dimensional algebra of point symmetries and also higher order symmetries. Also we provide all conservation laws, with first order characteristics, which are admitted by the system for $b=1,2$. In addi…
A nilpotent Lie algebra n_{n,1} with an (n-1) dimensional Abelian ideal is studied. All indecomposable solvable Lie algebras with n_{n,1} as their nilradical are obtained. Their dimension is at most n+2. The generalized Casimir invariants of n_{n,1} and of its solvable extensions are calculated. For n=4 these algebras figure in the Petrov classification of Einstein spaces. For larger values of n they can be used in a more general classification of Riemannian manifolds.
