We study rank 3 stable bundles E on P^3 as extensions of a line bundle B on a smooth surface S in P^3 by the direct sum of three copies of O_{P^3}(-ν). In most cases, S (the dependency locus of three sections of E(ν)) lies in the Noether-Lefschetz locus. We give a detailed analysis when S contains a line L and B is constructed from divisors of the form aL+bC for H=L+C a hyperplane section of S. We study the parameter space of this construction and compare it to the full (Gieseker-Maruyama) moduli space. We also analyse the case when B is a power of the hyperplane bundle. The same approach is used to study rank 2 bundles on P^3.
In this paper we study Brill-Noether loci for rank-two vector bundles and describe the general member of some components as suitable extensions of line bundles.
Let $X$ be a smooth quartic hypersurface in $\mathbb{P}^3$. By the Brill-Noether theory of curves on K3 surfaces, if a rank 2 aCM bundle on $X$ is globally generated, then it is the Lazarsfeld-Mukai bundle $E_{C,Z}$ associated with a smooth curve $C$ on $X$ and a base point free pencil $Z$ on $C$. In this paper, we will focus on the classification of such bundles on $X$ to investigate aCM bundles of rank 2 on $X$. Concretely, we will give a necessary condition for a rank 2 vector bundle of type $E_{C,Z}$ to be indecomposable initialized and aCM, in the case where the class of $C$ in Pic($X$) i…
Let $X$ be a smooth projective hypersurface. In this note we show that any rank 3 arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay vector bundle over $X$ splits when dim $X \geq 7$. We also find a splitting criterion for rank 4 arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay vector bundles on $X$ when dim $X \geq 9$.
We classify rank two vector bundles on P3 with Buchsbaum index equal to three and also give some results on the H1-module of "negative instanton"bundles.
Hartshorne's conjecture about vector bundles on projective space states that any rank 2 vector bundle on n-dimensional projective space splits as soon as n is at least 7. Klyachko has shown that Hartshorne's conjecture is true when the vector bundles are torus equivariant. Moreover, recent work of Ilten and Süss generalizes Klyachko's work to the case of a smaller rank torus action on projective space. In this note we give a new, direct proof that torus rank 2 bundles split that avoids a description of the category of torus equivariant vector bundles.
Previously, many people have studied a stability of vector bundles of given rank and Chern classes on algebraic varieties. Recently, we are interested in the slope stability of the rank 2 Lazarsfeld-Mukai bundle $E_{C,Z}$ on a K3 surface $X$ associated to a very ample smooth curve $C$ on $X$ and a base point free pencil $Z$ on $C$ with respect to $\mathcal{O}_X(C)$. In this paper, we will give a sufficient condition for such a Lazarsfeld-Mukai bundle $E_{C,Z}$ to be $\mathcal{O}_X(C)$-slope semistable by ACM line bundles with respect to $\mathcal{O}_X(C)$.
We observe that the proof of the Bogomolov stable restriction theorem can be adapted to give an ampleness criterion for globally generated rank 2 vector bundles on certain surfaces. This applies to the Lazarsfeld-Mukai bundles, to congruences of lines in P^3, and possibly to the construction of surfaces with ample cotangent bundle (help welcome!).
In this article we establish an analogue of the Barth-Van de Ven-Tyurin-Sato theorem. We prove that a finite rank vector bundle on a complete intersection of finite codimension in a linear ind-Grassmannian is isomorphic to a direct sum of line bundles.
We generalize the results by Eisenbud and Schreyer about Ulrich bundles over Veronese varieties to Segre-Veronese varieties. We discuss the range where we have natural cohomology and we construct multigraded resolutions and monads for Ulrich bundles of any rank. Moreover we give cohomological characterizations for significant families of bundles.
Let $X$ be a smooth projective hypersurface of dimension $\geq 5$ and let $E$ be an arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay bundle on $X$ of any rank. We prove that $E$ splits as a direct sum of line bundles if and only if $H^i_*(X, \wedge^2 E) = 0$ for $i = 1,2,3,4$. As a corollary this result proves a conjecture of Buchweitz, Greuel and Schreyer for the case of rank 3 arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay bundles.
We show that a normalized rank two vector bundle, E, on P2 splits if and only if h1(E(-1)) = 0. Using this fact we give another proof of a theorem of Chiantini and Valabrega. Finally we describe the normalized bundles with h1(E(-1)) <= 4.
We prove that a double cover of $\mathbb{P}^2$ ramified along a general smooth curve B of degree $2s$, for $s \geq 3$, supports a rank 2 special Ulrich bundle.
In 2017, Catanese--Perroni gave a natural correspondence between the Picard group of a double cover and a set of pairs of a vector bundle of rank two and a certain morphism of vector bundles on the base space. In this paper, we describe the group structure of the latter set induced from the Picard group in terms of transition functions of vector bundles of rank two. This study is derived from the study of the embedded topology of plane curves. It also proposes approaches to the study of Picard groups of double covers, and to the construction of vector bundles of rank two.
Let E be a stable rank two normalized vector bundle on P3. If H is a general plane we show that h^0(E_H(1)) \leq 2+c_1. It follows that h^0(E(1)) \leq 2+c_1.
Let $F\subseteq\mathbb P ^{a+1}$ be a non-degenerate $K3$ surface of degree $2a$, where $a\ge2$. In this paper we deal with Ulrich bundles on $F$ of rank $2$. We deal with their stability and we construct $K3$ surfaces endowed with families of non-special Ulrich bundles of rank $2$ for each $a\ge2$.
The aim of this note is to find upper bounds on the dimension of Brill-Noether locus' inside the moduli space of rank two vector bundles on a smooth algebraic curve. We deduce some consequences of these bounds.
We extend the concept of Segre's Invariant to vector bundles on a surface $X$. For $X=\mathbb{P}^2$ we determine what numbers can appear as the Segre Invariant of a rank $2$ vector bundle with given Chern's classes. The irreducibility of strata with fixed Segre's invariant is proved and its dimensions are computed. Finally, we present applications to the Brill-Noether's Theory for rank $2$ vector bundles on $\mathbb{P}^2.$
We propose a three-step program for the classification of stable rank 2 bundles on the projective space $\mathbb{P}^3$ inspired by an article by Hartshorne and Rao. While this classification program has been successfully completed for stable rank 2 bundles with even determinant and $c_2\le5$, much less is known for bundles with odd determinant. After revising the known facts about these objects, we list all possible spectra and minimal monads for stable rank 2 bundles with odd determinant and $c_2\le8$. We provide a full classification of all bundles with positive minimal monads, provide a neg…
In this paper, we study rank 2 (quasi) parabolic bundles over the Riemann sphere with an effective divisor and these moduli spaces. First we consider a criterium when a parabolic bundle admits a unramified irregular singular parabolic connection. Second, to give a good compactification of the moduli space of semistable parabolic bundles, we introduce a generalization of parabolic bundles, which is called refined parabolic bundles. Third, we discuss a stability condition of refined parabolic bundles and define elementary transformations of the refined parabolic bundles. Finally, we describe the…
We prove formulas for the rational Chow motives of moduli spaces of semistable vector bundles and Higgs bundles of rank 3 and coprime degree on a smooth projective curve. Our approach involves identifying criteria to lift identities in (a completion of) the Grothendieck group of effective Chow motives to isomorphisms in the category of Chow motives. For the Higgs moduli space, we use motivic Bialynicki-Birula decompositions associated to a scaling action with variation of stability and wall-crossing for moduli spaces of rank 2 pairs, which occur in the fixed locus of this action.
We give a combinatorial criterion for the tangent bundle on a smooth toric variety to be stable with respect to a given polarisation in terms of the corresponding lattice polytope. Furthermore, we show that for a smooth toric surface and a smooth toric variety of Picard rank 2, there exists an ample line bundle with respect to which the tangent bundle is stable if and only if it is an iterated blow-up of projective space.
We classify rank two vector bundles on a given del Pezzo threefold of degree four whose projectivizations are weak Fano into seven cases. We also give an example for each of these seven cases.
