For a Poincare duality space X and a map X -> B, consider the homotopy fiber product X x^B X. If X is orientable with respect to a multiplicative cohomology theory E, then, after suitably regrading, it is shown that the E-homology of X x^B X has the structure of a graded associative algebra. When X -> B is the diagonal map of a manifold X, one recovers a result of Chas and Sullivan about the homology of the free loop space LX.

In this paper we address the relation between the orbifold fundamental group and the topology of the underlying space. In particular, under the assumption that the orbifold fundamental group is equal to the fundamental group of the underlying space, we prove Poincaré Duality for orbifolds of dimension 4 and 5.
We show that intersection homology extends Poincare duality to manifold homotopically stratified spaces (satisfying mild restrictions). This includes showing that, on such spaces, the sheaf of singular intersection chains is quasi-isomorphic to the Deligne sheaf.

Let K be a connected finite complex. This paper studies the problem of whether one can attach a cell to some iterated suspension S^j K so that the resulting space satisfies Poincare duality. When this is possible, we say that S^j K is a spine. We introduce the notion of quadratic self duality and show that if K is quadratically self dual, then S^j K is a spine whenever j is a suitable power of two. The object of this paper is to show that non-homotopy finite Poincaré duality spaces are plentiful. Let $π$ be finitely presented group. Assuming that the reduced Grothendieck group $\tilde K_0(\Bbb Z[π])$ has a non-trivial 2-divisible element, we construct a finitely dominated Poincaré space $X$ with fundamental group $π$ such that $X$ is not homotopy finite. The dimension of $X$ can be made arbitrarily large. Our proof relies on a result which says that every finitely dominated space possesses a stable Poincaré duality thickening.
We construct periodic families of Poincare complexes, partially solving a question of Hodgson that was posed in the proceedings of the 1982 Northwestern homotopy theory conference. We also construct infinite families of Poincare complexes whose top cell falls off after one suspension but which fail to embed in a sphere of codimension one. We give a homotopy theoretic description of the four-fold periodicity in knot cobordism.
We answer a weaker version of the classification problem for the homotopy types of $(n-2)$-connected closed orientable $(2n-1)$-manifolds. Let $n\geq 6$ be an even integer, and $X$ be a $(n-2)$-connected finite orientable Poincaré $(2n-1)$-complex such that $H^{n-1}(X;\mathbb{Q})=0$ and $H^{n-1}(X;\mathbb{Z}_2)=0$. Then its loop space homotopy type is uniquely determined by the action of higher Bockstein operations on $H^{n-1}(X;\mathbb{Z}_p)$ for each odd prime $p$. A stronger result is obtained when localized at odd primes.
An proof of Poincare Duality with local coefficients and with compact support is provided. The proof does not require Sheaf Theory or anything equivalent and is thus more accessible for the general audience.
We discuss Poincaré duality complexes X and the question whether or not their Spivak normal fibration admits a reduction to a vector bundle in the case where the dimension of X is at most 4. We show that in dimensions less than 4 such a reduction always exists, and in dimension 4 such a reduction exists provided X is orientable. In the non-orientable case there are counterexamples to reducibility by Hambleton--Milgram.
We make explicit Poincaré duality for the equivariant $K$-theory of equivariant complex projective spaces. The case of the trivial group provides a new approach to the $K$-theory orientation.

In this paper, it is shown that some of the results of torus actions on Poincaré duality spaces, Borel's dimension formula and topological splitting principle to local weights, hold if `torus' is replaced by `pro-torus'.
We prove that every commutative differential graded algebra whose cohomology is a simply-connected Poincare duality algebra is quasi-isomorphic to one whose underlying algebra is simply-connected and satisfies Poincare duality in the same dimension. This has application in particular to the study of CDGA models of configuration spaces on a closed manifold.
Using a cap product, we construct an explicit Poincaré duality isomorphism between the blown-up intersection cohomology and the Borel-Moore intersection homology, for any commutative ring of coefficients and second-countable, oriented pseudomanifolds.

In this paper we assign, under reasonable hypothesis, to each pseudomanifold with isolated singularities a rational Poincaré duality space. These spaces are constructed with the formalism of intersections spaces defined by Markus Banagl and are indeed related to them in the even dimensional case.
Greenlees and Sadofsky showed that the classifying spaces of finite groups are self-dual with respect to Morava K-theory K(n). Their duality map was constructed using a transfer map. We generalize their duality map and prove a K(n)-version of Poincare duality for classifying spaces of orbifolds. By regarding these classifying spaces as the homotopy types of certain differentiable stacks, our construction can be viewed as a stack version of Spanier-Whitehead type construction. Some examples and calculations will be given at the end.
Methods are developed to relate the action of a principal fibration to relative Whitehead products in order to determine the homotopy type of certain spaces. The methods are applied to thoroughly analyze the homotopy type of the based loops on certain cell attachments. Key examples are (n-1)-connected Poincare Duality complexes of dimension 2n or 2n+1 with minor cohomological conditions.

In a previous paper, math.AT/0304079, Auslander-Reiten triangles and quivers were introduced into algebraic topology. This paper shows that over a Poincare duality space, each component of the Auslander-Reiten quiver is isomorphic to ZA_{\infty}.
We use nonabelian Poincaré duality to recover the stable splitting of compactly supported mapping spaces, $\rm{Map_c}$$(M,Σ^nX)$, where $M$ is a parallelizable $n$-manifold. Our method for deriving this splitting is new, and naturally extends to give a more general stable splitting of the space of compactly supported sections of a certain bundle on $M$ with fibers $Σ^nX$, twisted by the tangent bundle of $M$. This generalization incorporates possible $O(n)$-actions on $X$ as well as accommodating non-parallelizable manifolds.
Let G=S^1, G=Z/p or more generally G be a finite p group, where p is an odd prime number. If G acts on a space whose cohomology ring satisfies Poincare duality (with appropriate coefficients k), we prove a mod 4 congruence between the total Betti number of X^G and a number which depends only on the k[G]-module structure of H^*(X;k). This improves the well known mod 2 congruences that hold for actions on general spaces.
We prove that every finite connected simplicial complex is homotopy equivalent to the quotient of a contractible manifold by proper actions of a virtually torsion-free group. As a corollary, we obtain that every finite connected simplicial complex is homotopy equivalent to the classifying space for proper bundles of some virtual Poincaré duality group.

We define and study a class of finite topological spaces, which model the cell structure of a space obtained by gluing finitely many Euclidean convex polyhedral cells along congruent faces. We call these finite topological spaces, combinatorial cell complexes (or c.c.c). We define orientability, homology and cohomology of c.c.c's and develop enough algebraic topology in this setting to prove the Poincare duality theorem for a c.c.c satisfying suitable regularity conditions. The definitions and proofs are completely finitary and combinatorial in nature.
We generalize the nonabelian Poincare duality theorems of Salvatore in [Sal01] and Lurie in [Lur09] to the case of not necessarily grouplike E_n-algebras (in the category of spaces). We define a stabilization procedure based on McDuff's "brining points in from infinity" maps from [McD75]. We prove a Poincare-Alexander-Lefschetz duality theorem for rational torus-equivariant cohomology and rational homology manifolds. We allow non-compact and non-orientable spaces. We use this to deduce certain short exact sequences in equivariant cohomology, originally due to Duflot in the differentiable case, from similar, but more general short exact sequences in equivariant homology. A crucial role is played by the Cohen-Macaulayness of relative equivariant cohomology modules arising from the orbit filtration.
We characterise integral Poincaré duality moment-angle complexes $\mathcal{Z}_{\mathcal{K}}$ in combinatorial terms of the Fan-Wang duality of the simplicial complex $\mathcal{K}$, and consequently in algebraic terms of the Gorenstein duality of the Stanley-Reisner ring $\mathbb{Z}[\mathcal{K}]$. We extend Poincaré duality results to certain polyhedral products using polyhedral join products of simplicial complexes.

The singular cochain complex of a topological space is a classical object. It is a Differential Graded algebra which has been studied intensively with a range of methods, not least within rational homotopy theory. More recently, the tools of Auslander-Reiten theory have also been applied to the singular cochain complex. One of the highlights is that by these methods, each Poincare duality space gives rise to a Calabi-Yau category. This paper is a review of the theory.

We define the equivariant factorization homology of a V-framed smooth G-manifold with coefficients in an $E_V$-algebra using a two-sided bar construction, generalizing [And10, KM18]. Let G be a Poincare duality group of dimension n. For a given element g in G, let C_g denote its centralizer subgroup. Let L_G be the graded abelian group defined by (L_G)_p = oplus_{[g]}H_{p+n}(C_g) where the sum is taken over conjugacy classes of elements in G. In this paper we construct a multiplication on L_G directly in terms of intersection products on the centralizers. This multiplication makes L_G a graded, associative, commutative algebra. For a smooth algebraic curve X over a field, applying H_1 to the Abel map X -> Pic (X/\partial X) to the Picard scheme of X modulo its boundary realizes the Poincaré duality isomorphism H_1(X, Z/ n) -> H^1(X/ \partial X, Z/n(1)) = H^1_c(X, Z/n(1)). We show the analogous statement for the Abel map X/\partial X -> Picbar (X/\partial X) to the compactified Picard, or Jacobian, scheme, namely this map realizes the Poincaré duality isomorphism H_1(X/ \partial X, Z/n) -> H^1(X, Z/n(1)). It is well known that the cup-product pairing on the complementary integral cohomology groups (modulo torsion) of a compact oriented manifold is unimodular. We prove a similar result for the $\ell$-adic cohomology groups of smooth algebraic varieties.
Let M be a Poincare duality space of dimension at least four. In this paper we describe a complete obstruction to realizing the diagonal map M -> M x M by a Poincare embedding. The obstruction group depends only on the fundamental group and the parity of the dimension of M.
