Pro-torus actions on Poincaré duality spaces

Torus and Z/p actions on manifolds

Let G be either a finite cyclic group of prime order or S^1. We find new relations between cohomology of a manifold (or a Poincare duality space) M with a G-action on it and cohomology of the fixed point set, M^G. Our main tool is the notion of Poincare duality on the Leray spectral sequence of the map M_G -> BG. We apply our results to study group actions on 3-manifolds.

Equivariant Poincaré-Alexander-Lefschetz duality and the Cohen-Macaulay property

We prove a Poincare-Alexander-Lefschetz duality theorem for rational torus-equivariant cohomology and rational homology manifolds. We allow non-compact and non-orientable spaces. We use this to deduce certain short exact sequences in equivariant cohomology, originally due to Duflot in the differentiable case, from similar, but more general short exact sequences in equivariant homology. A crucial role is played by the Cohen-Macaulayness of relative equivariant cohomology modules arising from the orbit filtration.

Locally standard torus actions and sheaves over Buchsbaum posets

We consider a sheaf of exterior algebras on a simplicial poset $S$ and introduce a notion of homological characteristic function. Two natural objects are associated with these data: a graded sheaf $\mathcal{I}$ and a graded cosheaf $\widehatΠ$. When $S$ is a homology manifold, we prove the isomorphism $H^{n-1-p}(S;\mathcal{I})\cong H_{p}(S;\widehatΠ)$ which can be considered as an extension of the Poincare duality. Homology of torus spaces with acyclic proper faces of the orbit space

Let $X$ be 2n-dimensional compact manifold with a locally standard action of a compact torus. The orbit space $X/T$ is a manifold with corners. Suppose that all proper faces of $X/T$ are acyclic. In the paper we study the homological spectral sequence $E^*_{*,*}\Rightarrow H_*(X)$ corresponding to the filtration of $X$ by orbit types. When the free part of the action is not twisted, we describe the whole spectral sequence in terms of homology and combinatorial structure of $X/T$.
