In this article we discuss the geometry of moduli spaces of (1) flat bundles over special Lagrangian submanifolds and (2) deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills bundles over complex submanifolds in Calabi-Yau manifolds.
These moduli spaces reflect the geometry of the Calabi-Yau itself like a mirror. Strominger, Yau and Zaslow conjecture that the mirror Calabi-Yau manifold is such a moduli space and they argue that the mirror symmetry duality is a Fourier-Mukai transformation. We review various aspects of the mirror symmetry conjecture and discuss a geometric approach in proving it.
The existence of rigid Calabi-Yau manifolds poses a serious challenge to the conjecture. The proposed mirror partners for them are higher dimensional generalized Calabi-Yau manifolds. For example, the mirror partner for a certain K3 surface is a cubic fourfold and its Fano variety of lines is birational to the Hilbert scheme of two points on the K3. This hyperkahler manifold can be interpreted as the SYZ mirror of the K3 by considering singular special Lagrangian tori.
We also compare the geometries between a CY and its associated generalized CY. In particular we present a new construction of Lagrangian submanifolds.
We study SYZ mirror symmetry in the context of non-Kaehler Calabi-Yau manifolds. In particular, we study the six-dimensional Type II supersymmetric $SU(3)$ systems with Ramond-Ramond fluxes, and generalize them to higher dimensions. We show that Fourier-Mukai transform provides the mirror map between these Type IIA and Type IIB supersymmetric systems in the semi-flat setting. This is concretely exhibited by nilmanifolds.
In this thesis, we study a class of special Lagrangian submanifolds of toric Calabi-Yau manifolds and construct their mirrors using some techniques developed in the SYZ programme. We present a justification on the conjecture on the mirror construction of D- branes in Aganagic-Vafa [2]. We apply the techniques employed in Chan-Lau-Leung [8] and Chan [6], which give the SYZ mirror construction for D-branes. Recently, Chan-Lau-Leung [8] has given an explicit mirror construction for toric Calabi-Yau manifolds as complex algebraic varieties. Inspired by the SYZ transformation of D-branes in Leung-Y…
The mirror of a projective toric manifold $X_Σ$ is given by a Landau-Ginzburg model $(Y,W)$. We introduce a class of Lagrangian submanifolds in $(Y,W)$ and show that, under the SYZ mirror transformation, they can be transformed to torus-invariant hermitian metrics on holomorphic line bundles over $X_Σ$. Through this geometric correspondence, we also identify the mirrors of Hermitian-Einstein metrics, which are given by distinguished Lagrangian sections whose potentials satisfy certain Laplace-type equations.
This is a survey article on the recent progress in understanding the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow (SYZ) mirror symmetry conjecture, especially on the effect of quantum corrections, via Witten-Morse theory using the program first depicted by Fukaya to obtain an explicit relation between differential geometric operations, e.g. wedge product of differential forms and Lie-bracket of the Kodaira-Spencer complexes, with combinatorial structures, e.g. Morse $A_\infty$ structures and scattering diagrams.
This is a write-up of the author's talk in the conference "Algebraic Geometry in East Asia 2016" held at the University of Tokyo in January 2016. We give a survey on a series of papers of the author and his collaborators Daniel Pomerleano and Kazushi Ueda where we show how Strominger-Yau-Zaslow (SYZ) transforms can be applied to understand the geometry of Kontsevich's homological mirror symmetry (HMS) conjecture for certain local Calabi-Yau manifolds.
We survey recent developments in the study of SYZ mirror symmetry for compact toric and toric Calabi-Yau varieties, with a special emphasis on works of the author and his collaborators.
In this article we construct Lagrangian torus fibrations for general quintic \cy hypersurfaces near the large complex limit and their mirror manifolds using gradient flow method. Then we prove the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow mirror conjecture for this class of \cy manifolds in symplectic category.
We survey the authors recent works, joint with A. Jacob, on Strominger-Yau-Zaslow mirror symmetry for rational elliptic surfaces and del Pezzo surfaces. We discuss some applications, including the Torelli theorem for $ALH^*$ gravitational instantons and explain how our results can be used to prove that all $ALH^*$ gravitational instantons can be compactified to a weak del Pezzo surface, recovering a recent result of Hein-Sun-Viaclovsky-Zhang.
Given any smooth cubic curve $E\subseteq \mathbb{P}^2$, we show that the complex affine structure of the special Lagrangian fibration of $\mathbb{P}^2\setminus E$ constructed by Collins--Jacob--Lin arXiv:1904.08363 coincides with the affine structure used in Carl--Pomperla--Siebert for constructing mirror. Moreover, we use the Floer-theoretical gluing method to construct a mirror using immersed Lagrangians, which is shown to agree with the mirror constructed by Carl--Pomperla--Siebert.
In this note, we study the SYZ mirror construction for a toric Calabi-Yau manifold using instanton corrections coming from Woodward's quasimap Floer theory instead of Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono's Lagrangian Floer theory. We show that the resulting SYZ mirror coincides with the one written down via physical means (as expected).
We study hyperkahler metrics and hyperholomorphic connections of Hitchin's moduli spaces after Gaiotto, Moore and Neitzke. Their construction via the twistor technique produces intricate wall crossing behaviors. For certain four dimensional Hitchin's moduli spaces local models and degeneration to local models near singular fibers of the Hitchin's fibration are understood.

In this paper we give a construction of Lagrangian torus fibration for Calabi-Yau hypersurface in toric variety via the method of gradient flow. Using our construction of Lagrangian torus fibration, we are able to prove the symplectic topological version of SYZ mirror conjecture for generic Calabi-Yau hypersurface in toric variety. We will also be able to give precise formulation of SYZ mirror conjecture in general (including singular locus and duality of singular fibres).
In this paper, we study the geometry of the SYZ transform on a semi-flat Lagrangian torus fibration. Our starting point is an investigation on the relation between Lagrangian surgery of a pair of straight lines in a symplectic 2-torus and extension of holomorphic vector bundles over the mirror elliptic curve, via the SYZ transform for immersed Lagrangian multi-sections. This study leads us to a new notion of equivalence between objects in the immersed Fukaya category of a general compact symplectic manifold $(M, ω)$, under which the immersed Floer cohomology is invariant; in particular, this p…

In this survey paper, we briefly review various aspects of the SYZ approach to mirror symmetry for non-Calabi-Yau varieties, focusing in particular on Lagrangian fibrations and wall-crossing phenomena in Floer homology. Various examples are presented, some of them new.
The SYZ Conjecture explains Mirror Symmetry between mirror Calabi-Yau 3-folds M,M' in terms of special Lagrangian fibrations f : M --> B and f' : M' --> B over the same base B, whose fibres are dual 3-tori, except for singular fibres. One of the main problems in proving the SYZ Conjecture (or even in finding the right statement of it) is that the singularities of special Lagrangian 3-folds and fibrations are poorly understood. This paper studies the singularities of special Lagrangian fibrations. Our main rigorous results are the construction of examples of special Lagrangian fibrations on ope…
By the SYZ construction, a mirror pair $(X,\check{X})$ of a complex torus $X$ and a mirror partner $\check{X}$ of the complex torus $X$ is described as the special Lagrangian torus fibrations $X \rightarrow B$ and $\check{X} \rightarrow B$ on the same base space $B$. Then, by the SYZ transform, we can construct a simple projectively flat bundle on $X$ from each affine Lagrangian multi section of $\check{X} \rightarrow B$ with a unitary local system along it. However, there are ambiguities of the choices of transition functions of it, and this causes difficulties when we try to construct a func…
We study the moduli spaces of flat SL(r)- and PGL(r)-connections, or equivalently, Higgs bundles, on an algebraic curve. These spaces are noncompact Calabi-Yau orbifolds; we show that they can be regarded as mirror partners in two different senses. First, they satisfy the requirements laid down by Strominger-Yau-Zaslow (SYZ), in a suitably general sense involving a B-field or flat unitary gerbe. To show this, we use their hyperkahler structures and Hitchin's integrable systems. Second, their Hodge numbers, again in a suitably general sense, are equal. These spaces provide significant evidence …
This survey was written for the Current Developments in Mathematics conference, 2012, and is an updating of my article "The Strominger-Yau-Zaslow conjecture: From torus fibrations to degenerations," in the Seattle 2005 proceedings. We trace progress and thinking about the SYZ conjecture since its introduction in 1996. We begin with the original differential geometric conjecture and its refinements, and explain how it led to the algebro-geometric program developed by myself and Siebert. After explaining the overall philosophy, I explain how recent results fit into this program.
Let $(X,\check{X})$ be a mirror pair of a complex torus $X$ and its mirror partner $\check{X}$. This mirror pair is described as the trivial special Lagrangian torus fibrations $X\rightarrow B$ and $\check{X}\rightarrow B$ on the same base space $B$ by SYZ construction. Then, we can associate a holomorphic line bundle $E(s,\mathcal{L})\rightarrow X$ to a pair $(s,\mathcal{L})$ of a Lagrangian section $s$ of $\check{X}\rightarrow B$ and a unitary local system $\mathcal{L}$ along it. In this paper, we first construct the deformation $X_{\mathcal{G}}$ of $X$ by a certain flat gerbe $\mathcal{G}$ …
This paper focuses on a topological version on the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow mirror symmetry conjecture. Roughly put, the SYZ conjecture suggests that mirror pairs of Calabi-Yau manifolds are related by the existence of dual special Lagrangian torus fibrations. We explore this conjecture without reference to the special Lagrangian condition. In this setting, natural questions include: does there exist a nice class of T^3-fibrations for which the dual fibration can be constructed? Do such fibrations exist on a manifold such as the quintic threefold? If so, is the dual fibration the mirror? We answe…
This article surveys the development of the SYZ conjecture since it was proposed by Strominger, Yau and Zaslow in their famous 1996 paper, and discusses how it has been leading us to a thorough understanding of the geometry underlying mirror symmetry.
We develop a unifed theory to study geometry of manifolds with different holonomy groups. They are classified by (1) real, complex, quaternion or octonion number they are defined over and (2) being special or not. Specialty is an orientation with respect to the corresponding normed algebra A. For example, special Riemannian A-manifolds are oriented Riemannian, Calabi-Yau, Hyperkahler and G_2-manifolds respectively. For vector bundles over such manifolds, we introduce (special) A-connections. They include holomorphic, Hermitian Yang-Mills, Anti-Self-Dual and Donaldson-Thomas connections. Simila…
We study the deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills (dHYM) equation, which is mirror to the special Lagrangian equation, from the variational point of view via an infinite dimensional GIT problem mirror to Thomas' GIT picture for special Lagrangians. This gives rise to infinite dimensional manifold $\mathcal{H}$ mirror to Solomon's space of positive Lagrangians. In the hypercritical phase case we prove the existence of smooth approximate geodesics, and weak geodesics with $C^{1,α}$ regularity. This is accomplished by proving sharp with respect to scale estimates for the Lagrangian phase operator on col…
We introduce special Lagrangian submanifolds in C^m and in (almost) Calabi-Yau manifolds, and survey recent results on singularities of special Lagrangian submanifolds, and their application to the SYZ Conjecture. The paper is aimed at graduate students in Geometry, String Theorists, and others wishing to learn the subject. Special Lagrangian m-folds in C^m are defined, and ways of constructing them described. 'Almost Calabi-Yau manifolds' (a generalization of Calabi-Yau manifolds useful in special Lagrangian geometry) are introduced, and the deformation theory, obstruction theory, and moduli …
We analyse the moduli spaces of superconformal field theories (SCFTs). For N=2 we find an enhanced moduli space which in geometrical terms corresponds to tori with two independent complex structures. To explain the precise relation with the moduli space of SCFTs on K3 surfaces as described by Aspinwall and Morrison, we discuss some subtleties with the precise interpretation of the N=2 and N=4 moduli spaces. We also explain why in some cases the SYZ-description of mirror symmetry as fibrewise T-duality seems to break down. Using gluing matrices we give an algebraic description of D-branes and c…
This paper gives a leisurely introduction to Calabi-Yau manifolds and special Lagrangian submanifolds from the differential geometric point of view, followed by a survey of recent results on singularities of special Lagrangian submanifolds, and their application to the SYZ Conjecture. It is aimed at graduate students in Geometry, String Theorists, and others wishing to learn the subject, and is designed to be fairly self-contained. It is based on lecture courses given at Nordfjordeid, Norway and MSRI, Berkeley in June and July 2001. We introduce Calabi-Yau m-folds via holonomy groups, Kahler g…
This is the first in a series of papers on special Lagrangian submanifolds in C^m. We study special Lagrangian submanifolds in C^m with large symmetry groups, and give a number of explicit constructions. Our main results concern special Lagrangian cones in C^m invariant under a subgroup G in SU(m) isomorphic to U(1)^{m-2}. By writing the special Lagrangian equation as an o.d.e. in G-orbits and solving the o.d.e., we find a large family of distinct, G-invariant special Lagrangian cones on T^{m-1} in C^m. These examples are interesting as local models for singularities of special Lagrangian subm…
