This paper is the text of a lecture given at the Catania conference on Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry, in honor of the 60th birthday of Silvio Greco. It analyses the correspondences between equivalence classes of objects related to the projective 3-space ${\bf P}^3_k$ over a field $k$ : - vector bundles ${\cal F}$ such that $H_*^2({\cal F})=0$ up to stable equivalence - coherent sheaves of projective dimension $\leq 1$ up to pseudo-equivalence - finite length graded $k[X,Y,Z,T]$-modules, modulo isomorphism - biliaison classes of locally Cohen-Macaulay curves. In particular, it leads to the natural question : ``If a biliaison class contains subcanonical curves, is a minimal curve subcanonical ?'' for which a positive answer was given in math.AG/0102222.
We develop the theory of ind-coherent sheaves on schemes and stacks. The category of ind-coherent sheaves is closely related, but inequivalent, to the category of quasi-coherent sheaves, and the difference becomes crucial for the formulation of the categorical Geometric Langlands Correspondence.
We establish a criterion for sheaves on an adically complete DG scheme to be coherent. We deduce a description of coherent sheaves on an adically complete lci singularity in terms of modules for a DG Lie algebra.
We study perverse coherent sheaves on the resolution of rational double points. As examples, we consider rational double points on 2-dimensional moduli spaces of stable sheaves on K3 and elliptic surfaces. Then we show that perverse coherent sheaves appears in the theory of Fourier-Mukai transforms. As an application, we generalize the Fourier-Mukai duality for K3 surfaces to our situation.
We determine versal non-commutative deformations of some simple collections in the categories of perverse coherent sheaves arising from tilting generators for projective morphisms.
We prove formulae for the motives of stacks of coherent sheaves of fixed rank and degree over a smooth projective curve in Voevodsky's triangulated category of mixed motives with rational coefficients.
In this note, we show that the canonical orientation data on the quiver hearts are compatible under the autoequivalence $\_\otimesπ^*O(1)$, and hence glue to give an orientation data for the stack of coherent sheaves on local P2.
For a regular noetherian scheme $X$ with a divisor with strict normal crossings $D$ we prove that coherent sheaves satisfy descent w.r.t. the 'covering' consisting of the open parts in the various completions of $X$ along the components of $D$ and their intersections.
A new section on projections of coherent sheaves from a projective space to a lower-dimensional projective space has been added. Also some of the notation has been altered to bring it into line with the joint paper with Eisenbud and Schreyer.
Inspired by symplectic geometry and a microlocal characterizations of perverse (constructible) sheaves we consider an alternative definition of perverse coherent sheaves. We show that a coherent sheaf is perverse if and only if $RΓ_Z(\mathcal{F})$ is concentrated in degree 0 for special subvarieties Z of X. These subvarieties Z are analogs of Lagrangians in the symplectic case.
We give a remark on the wall crossing behavior of perverse coherent sheaves on a blow-up and stability condition constructed by Toda. We also explain the wall crossing of twisted stability in terms of stability condition.
We develop the notion of singular support of a coherent sheaf on a quasi-smooth DG scheme or stack and use it to formulate the Geometric Langlands Conjecture.
We define the derived category of quasi--coherent modules for certain Artin stacks as the homotopy category of two Quillen monoidal model structures on the corresponding category of unbounded complexes of quasi--coherent modules.
Let X be e quasi-compact and semi-separated scheme. If every at quasi- coherent sheaf has finite cotorsion dimension, we prove that X is n-perfect for some n > 0. If X is coherent and n-perfect(not necessarily of finite krull dimension), we prove that every at quasi-coherent sheaf has finite pure injective dimension. Also, we show that there is an equivalence K(PinfX)---> D(FlatX) of homotopy categories, whenever K(PinfX) is the homotopy category of pure injective at quasi-coherent sheaves and D(FlatX) is the pure derived category of at quasi-coherent sheaves.
In this paper, Gotzmann's Regularity Theorem is established for globally generated coherent sheaves on projective space. This is used to extend Gotzmann's explicit construction to the Quot scheme. The Gotzmann representation is applied to bound the second Chern class of a rank 2 globally generated coherent sheaf in terms of the first Chern class.
We survey recent developments on Donaldson-Thomas theory, Bridgeland stability conditions and wall-crossing formula. We emphasize the importance of the counting theory of Bridgeland semistable objects in the derived category of coherent sheaves to find a hidden property of the generating series of Donaldson-Thomas invariants.
We review the theory of non-commutative deformations of sheaves and describe a versal deformation by using an A-infinity algebra and the change of differentials of an injective resolution. We give some explicit non-trivial examples.
The notions of consistent pairs and consistent chains of t-structures are introduced. A theorem that two consistent chains of t-structures generate a distributive lattice is proven. The technique developed is then applied to the pairs of chains obtained from the standard t-structure on the derived category of coherent sheaves and the dual t-structure by means of the shift functor. This yields a family of t-structures whose hearts are known as perverse coherent sheaves.
In these notes, an introduction to derived categories and derived functors is given. The main focus is the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth projective variety.
In this article, we construct Chern classes in rational Deligne cohomology for coherent sheaves on a smooth complex compact manifold. We prove that these classes verify the functoriality property under pullbacks, the Whitney formula and the Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch theorem for projective morphisms between smooth complex compact manifolds.
We introduce and study configuration schemes, which are obtained by ``glueing'' usual schemes along closed embeddings. The category of coherent sheaves on a configuration scheme is investigated. Smooth configuration schemes provide alternative ``resolutions of singularities'' of usual singular schemes. We consider in detail the case when the singular scheme is a union of hyperplanes in a projective space.
We give a generalization of Gabriel's Theorem on coherent sheaves to the case of coherent twisted sheaves on a smooth variety X over a field k. We show that the category Coh(X,α) determines the scheme structure of X for αin the Brauer group of X, and that any equivalence between Coh(X,α) and Coh(Y,β) induces an isomorphism between X and Y. In conclusion we prove the saturatedness of D^b(X,α).
Orlov's famous representability theorem asserts that any fully faithful exact functor between the bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves on smooth projective varieties is a Fourier-Mukai functor. In this paper we show that this result is false without the full faithfulness hypothesis.

In this paper we prove first a general theorem on semiorthogonal decompositions in derived categories of coherent sheaves for flat families over a smooth base. Based on the results of math.AG/0510670, we then show that the derived categories of coherent sheaves on flag varieties of classical type are generated by complete exceptional collections. Finally, we find complete exceptional collections in the derived categories of some homogeneous spaces of the symplectic groups of small rank.
Let X be a quasi-compact and quasi-separated (not necessarily semiseparated) scheme. The category QcoX of all quasi-coherent sheaves of OX-modules has several diferent pure derived categories. Recently, categorical pure derived categories of X have been studied in more details. In this work, we focus on the geometrical purity and find replacements for geometrical pure derived categories of X.
We construct a twist-closed enhancement of the category ${\mathcal D}^b_{\rm coh}(X)$, the bounded derived category of complexes of ${\mathcal O}_X$-modules with coherent cohomology, by means of the DG-category of $\bar\partial$-superconnections. Then we apply the techniques of $\bar\partial$-superconnections to define Chern classes and Bott-Chern classes of objects in the category, in particular, of coherent sheaves.
We consider non-commutative deformations of sheaves on algebraic varieties. We develop some tools to determine parameter algebras of versal non-commutative deformations for partial simple collections and the structure sheaves of smooth rational curves. We apply them to universal flopping contractions of length 2 and higher. We confirm Donovan-Wemyss conjecture in the case of deformations of Laufer's flops.
In this paper, we study the geometric invariant theory on algebraic spaces, and construct te moduli spaces of $\mathcal{H}$-semistable sheaves on projective Deligne-Mumford stacks over algebraic spaces $S$. We prove that this moduli space is projective over $S$ as an algebraic space.
Fix a scheme $X$ over a field of characteristic zero that is equipped with an action of a reductive algebraic group $G$. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a $G$-equivariant coherent sheaf on $X$ or a bounded-above complex of $G$-equivariant coherent sheaves on $X$ to descend to a good quotient $X//G$. This gives a description of the coherent derived category of $X//G$ as an admissible subcategory of the equivariant derived category of $X$.
Let T be a compact complex torus, dim T>2. We show that the category of coherent sheaves on T is independent of the choice of the complex structure, if this complex structure is generic. The proof is independent of math.AG/0205210, where the same result was proven for K3 surfaces and even-dimensional tori.
We define and study infinite root stacks of fine and saturated logarithmic schemes, a limit version of the root stacks introduced by Niels Borne and the second author. We show in particular that the infinite root stack determines the logarithmic structure, and recovers the Kummer-flat topos of the logarithmic scheme. We also extend the correspondence between parabolic sheaves and quasi-coherent sheaves on root stacks to this new setting.
We discuss derived categories of coherent sheaves on algebraic varieties. We focus on the case of non-singular Calabi-Yau varieties and consider two unsolved problems: proving that birational varieties have equivalent derived categories, and computing the group of derived autoequivalences. We also introduce the space of stability conditions on a triangulated category and explain its relevance to these two problems.
We study the full set of solutions to the ADHM equation as an affine algebraic set, the ADHM variety. We gather the points of the ADHM variety into subvarieties according to the dimension of the stabilizing subspace. We compute dimension, and analyze singularity and reducibility of all of these varieties. We also connect representations of the ADHM quiver to coherent perverse sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$ in the sense of Kashiwara.
Let G be a finite group and ρ: G--> End(E) be a group representation of G on a coherent sheaf over an integral scheme. The purpose of this paper shall give a decomposition theorem of such representations in non-splitting components and apply this results to the studie of Galois covers
We classify coherent modules on $k[x,y]$ of length at most $4$ and supported at the origin. We compare our calculation with the motivic class of the moduli stack parametrizing such modules, extracted from the Feit-Fine formula. We observe that the natural torus action on this stack has finitely many fixed points, corresponding to connected skew Ferrers diagrams.
Let $\mathbf{X}$ be an Adams geometric stack. We show that $D(A_{qc}(\mathbf{X}))$, its derived category of quasi-coherent sheaves, satisfies the axioms of a stable homotopy category defined by Hovey, Palmieri and Strickland. Moreover we show how this structure relates to the derived category of comodules over a Hopf algebroid that determines $\mathbf{X}$.
A geometric stack is a quasi-compact and semi-separated algebraic stack. We prove that the quasi-coherent sheaves on the small flat topology, Cartesian presheaves on the underlying category, and comodules over a Hopf algebroid associated to a presentation of a geometric stack are equivalent categories. As a consequence, we show that the category of quasi-coherent sheaves on a geometric stack is a Grothendieck category. We associate, in a 2-functorial way, to a 1-morphism of geometric stacks $f$, an adjunction $(f^*, f_*)$ for the corresponding categories of quasi-coherent sheaves that agrees w…
We consider coherent and cohesive sheaves of $\cO$--modules over open sets $Ω\subset\bC^n$. We prove that coherent sheaves, and certain other sheaves derived from them, are cohesive; and conversely, certain sheaves derived from cohesive sheaves are coherent. An important tool in all this, also proved here, is that the sheaf of Banach space valued holomorphic germs is flat.
We study torsion free sheaves on integral projective curves with at most ordinary cusps as singularities. Adjusting Seshadri's structure from the nodal case to this one, we describe these sheaves by means of a triple defined in the normalization of the curve.
We will generalize the projective model structure in the category of unbounded complexes of modules over a commutative ring to the category of unbounded complexes of quasi-coherent sheaves over the projective line. Concretely we will define a locally projective model structure in the category of complexes of quasi-coherent sheaves on the projective line. In this model structure the cofibrant objects are the dg-locally projective complexes. We also describe the fibrations of this model structure and show that the model structure is monoidal. We point out that this model structure is necessarily…
Let X be an algebraic variety with an action of an algebraic group G. Suppose X has a full exceptional collection of sheaves, and these sheaves are invariant under the action of the group. We construct a semiorthogonal decomposition of bounded derived category of G-equivariant coherent sheaves on X into components, equivalent to derived categories of twisted representations of the group. If the group is finite or reductive over the algebraically closed field of zero characteristic, this gives a full exceptional collection in the derived equivariant category. We apply our results to particular …
The aim of these notes is to generalize Laumon's construction [18] of automorphic sheaves corresponding to local systems on a smooth, projective curve $C$ to the case of local systems with indecomposable unipotent ramification at a finite set of points. To this end we need an extension of the notion of parabolic structure on vector bundles to coherent sheaves. Once we have defined this, a lot of arguments from the article "On the geometric Langlands conjecture" by Frenkel, Gaitsgory and Vilonen [10] carry over to our situation. We show that our sheaves descend to the moduli space of parabolic …
Let $S$ be a scheme contained in $\mathbf{Sch}_{fppf}$. Let $\mathfrak{X}$ be a Noetherian separated algebraic space over $S$. In this paper, we interpret localizing subcategories of the derived category of $\mathfrak{X}$ by using subsets of $|\mathfrak{X}|$.
We define quasi-coherent parabolic sheaves with real weights on a fine saturated log analytic space, and explain how to interpret them as quasi-coherent sheaves of modules on its Kato-Nakayama space. This recovers the description as sheaves on root stacks of arXiv:1001.0466 and arXiv:1410.1164 for rational weights, but also includes the case of arbitrary real weights.
Let G be a reductive groups over an algebraically closed field k. Let P^{(i)} be associated parabolic subgroups, and X^{(i)}:=T^*G/P^i. The bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves on X^{(i)} are equivalent, but there is no canonical equivalence. By refining a construction from a previous paper, we construct a local system of categories over a topological space V^0_C, where these categories are assigned to different points in V^0_C. Natural equivalence functors between these categories are parameterized by homotopy classes of paths between the corresponding points.
In order to study wall crossing formula of Donaldson type invariants on the blown-up plane, Nakajima-Yoshioka constructed a sequence of blow-up/blow-down diagrams connecting the moduli space of torsion free framed sheaves on projective plane, and that on its blow-up. In this paper, we prove that Nakajima-Yoshioka's diagram realizes the minimal model program. Furthermore, we obtain a fully-faithful embedding between the derived categories of these moduli spaces.
We classify (semi)stable sheaves on a rational curve with one node. The results are based on the classification of indecomposable torsion-free sheaves due to Drozd and Greuel "Tame and wild projective curves and classification of vector bundles", where the sheaves are described in terms of certain combinatorial data. We translate the condition of (semi)stability into this combinatorial language and solve the so obtained problem.
The main objective of the present paper is to set up the theoretical basis and the language needed to deal with the problem of direct images of hermitian vector bundles for projective non-necessarily smooth morphisms. To this end, we first define hermitian structures on the objects of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth complex variety. Secondly we extend the theory of Bott-Chern classes to these hermitian structures. Finally we introduce the category $\oSm_{\ast/\CC}$ whose morphisms are projective morphisms with a hermitian structure on the relative tangent complex.
We prove the existence of fine moduli spaces of simple coherent sheaves on families of irreducible curves. Our proof is based on the existence of a universal upper bound of the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of such sheaves, which we provide.
As a continuation of the work of Freiermuth and Trautmann, we study the geometry of the moduli space of stable sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^3$ with Hilbert polynomial $4m+1$. The moduli space has three irreducible components whose generic elements are, respectively, sheaves supported on rational quartic curves, on elliptic quartic curves, or on planar quartic curves. The main idea of the proof is to relate the moduli space with the Hilbert scheme of curves by wall crossing. We present all stable sheaves contained in the intersections of the three irreducible components. We also classify stable sheav…
Multiple primitive curves have been defined and studied by A. Banica and O. Forster. We introduce new invariants for coherent sheaves on these curves and define quasi locally free sheaves, which play the same role as locally free sheaves on smooth varieties. A more detailed study of torsion free sheaves is given for primitive curves of multiplicity 2.
We show that for any stable sheaf $E$ of slope $> 2g-1$ on a smooth, projective curve of genus $g$, the associated Picard sheaf $\hat{E}$ on the Picard variety of the curve is stable. We introduce a homological tool for testing semistability of Picard sheaves.
We show that the universal plane curve M of fixed degree d > 2 can be seen as a closed subvariety in a certain Simpson moduli space of 1-dimensional sheaves on a projective plane contained in the stable locus. The universal singular locus coincides with the subvariety of M consisting of sheaves that are not locally free on their support. It turns out that the blow up of M along M' may be naturally seen as a compactification of M_B = M\M' by vector bundles (on support).
Let $f \colon X \to Y$ be the blow-up of a smooth projective variety $Y$ along its codimension two smooth closed subvariety. In this paper, we show that the moduli space of stable sheaves on $X$ and $Y$ are connected by a sequence of flip-like diagrams. The result is a higher dimensional generalization of the result of Nakajima and Yoshioka, which is the case of $\dim Y=2$. As an application of our general result, we study the birational geometry of the Hilbert scheme of two points.
