Let X be an algebraic variety with an action of an algebraic group G. Suppose X has a full exceptional collection of sheaves, and these sheaves are invariant under the action of the group. We construct a semiorthogonal decomposition of bounded derived category of G-equivariant coherent sheaves on X into components, equivalent to derived categories of twisted representations of the group. If the group is finite or reductive over the algebraically closed field of zero characteristic, this gives a full exceptional collection in the derived equivariant category. We apply our results to particular varieties such as projective spaces, quadrics, Grassmanians and Del Pezzo surfaces.
Given a smooth variety $X$ with an action of a finite group $G$, and a semiorthogonal decomposition of the derived category, $\mathcal{D}([X/G])$, of $G$-equivariant coherent sheaves on $X$ into subcategories equivalent to derived categories of smooth varieties, we construct a similar semiorthogonal decomposition for a smooth $G$-invariant divisor in $X$ (under certain technical assumptions). Combining this procedure with the semiorthogonal decompositions constructed in [PV15], we construct semiorthogonal decompositions of some equivariant derived categories of smooth projective varieties.
We consider the derived category of coherent sheaves on a complex vector space equivariant with respect to an action of a finite reflection group G. In some cases, including Weyl groups of type A, B, G_2, F_4, as well as the groups G(m,1,n), we construct a semiorthogonal decomposition of this category, indexed by the conjugacy classes of G. The pieces of this decompositions are equivalent to the derived categories of coherent sheaves on the quotient-spaces V^g/C(g), where C(g) is the centralizer subgroup of g in G. In the case of the Weyl groups the construction uses some key results about the…
In this paper a method of constructing a semiorthogonal decomposition of the derived category of $G$-equivariant sheaves on a variety $X$ is described, provided that the derived category of sheaves on $X$ admits a semiorthogonal decomposition, whose components are preserved by the action of the group $G$ on $X$. Using this method, semiorthogonal decompositions of equivariant derived categories were obtained for projective bundles and for blow-ups with a smooth center, and also for varieties with a full exceptional collection, preserved by the action of the group. As a main technical instrument…
A criterion for a functor between derived categories of coherent sheaves to be full and faithful is given. A semiorthogonal decomposition for the derived category of coherent sheaves on the intersection of two even dimensional quadrics is obtained. The behaviour of derived categories with respect to birational transformations is investigated. A theorem about reconstruction of a variety from the derived category of coherent sheaves is proved.
We study the derived category of coherent sheaves on various versions of moduli space of vector bundles on curves by the Borel-Weil-Bott theory for loop groups and $Θ$-stratification, and construct a semiorthogonal decomposition with blocks given by symmetric powers of the curve.
A semiorthogonal decomposition for the bounded derived category (the category of perfect complexes in a non smooth case) of coherent sheaves on a Brauer Severi scheme is given. It relies on bounded derived categories (categories of perfect complexes in a non smooth case) of suitably twisted coherent sheaves on the base.
Consider an algebraic variety $X$ over a base scheme $S$ and a faithful base change $T \to S$. Given an admissible subcategory $\CA$ in the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on $X$, we construct an admissible subcategory in the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on the fiber product $X\times_S T$, called the base change of $\CA$, in such a way that the following base change theorem holds: if a semiorthogonal decomposition of the bounded derived category of $X$ is given then the base changes of its components form a semiorthogonal decomposition of the bounded derived catego…
We show that the categorical action of the shifted $q=0$ affine algebra can be used to construct semiorthogonal decomposition on the weight categories. In particular, this construction recovers Kapranov's exceptional collection when the weight categories are the derived categories of coherent sheaves on Grassmannians and $n$-step partial flag varieties. Finally, as an application, we use this result to construct a semiorthogonal decomposition on the derived categories of coherent sheaves on Grassmannians of a coherent sheaf with homological dimension $\leq 1$ over a smooth projective variety $…
For any admissible subcategory of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth proper variety, we prove that sections of the canonical bundle impose a strong constraint on the supports of the objects of the subcategory or its semiorthogonal complement. We also show that admissible subcategories are rigid under the actions of topologically trivial autoequivalences. As applications of these results, we prove that the derived category of various minimal varieties in the sense of the minimal model program admit no non-trivial semiorthogonal decompositions, generalizing the result f…
We investigate Hochschild cohomology and homology of admissible subcategories of derived categories of coherent sheaves on smooth projective varieties. We show that the Hochschild cohomology of an admissible subcategory is isomorphic to the derived endomorphisms of the kernel giving the corresponding projection functor, and the Hochschild homology is isomorphic to derived morphisms from this kernel to its convolution with the kernel of the Serre functor. We investigate some basic properties of Hochschild homology and cohomology of admissible subcategories. In particular, we check that the Hoch…
In this paper we prove first a general theorem on semiorthogonal decompositions in derived categories of coherent sheaves for flat families over a smooth base. Based on the results of math.AG/0510670, we then show that the derived categories of coherent sheaves on flag varieties of classical type are generated by complete exceptional collections. Finally, we find complete exceptional collections in the derived categories of some homogeneous spaces of the symplectic groups of small rank.
We study perverse sheaves of categories their connections to classical algebraic geometry. We show how perverse sheaves of categories encode naturally derived categories of coherent sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^1$ bundles, semiorthogonal decompositions, and relate them to a recent proof of Segal that all autoequivalences of triangulated categories are spherical twists. Furthermore, we show that perverse sheaves of categories can be used to represent certain degenerate Calabi--Yau varieties.
We introduce crossingless sheaves in certain equivariant derived categories which are analogous to the Bezrukavnikov-Mirkovic exotic sheaves for two-block nilpotents. We calculate the classes of crossingless sheaves in equivariant K-theory of Cautis-Kamnitzer varieties.
We show that the derived category of coherent sheaves on the quotient stack of the affine plane by a finite small subgroup of the general linear group is obtained from the derived category of coherent sheaves on the minimal resolution by adding a semiorthogonal summand with a full exceptional collection. The proof is based on an explicit construction in the abelian case, together with the analysis of the behavior of the derived categories of coherent sheaves under root constructions.
We show how derived categories build bridges across the current mathematical mainstream, linking geometric and algebraic, commutative and noncommutative, local and global banks. Arches in these bridges are pieces of semiorthogonal decompositions of triangulated categories. To appear in the Proceedings of the ICM 2002 in Beijing.
We prove an equivariant Grothendieck-Ogg-Shafarevich formula. This formula may be viewed as an étale analogue of well-known formulas for Zariski sheaves generalizing the classical Chevalley-Weil formula. We give a new approach to those formulas (first proved by Ellingsrud/Lønsted, Nakajima, Kani and Ksir) which can also be applied in the étale case.
We study the equivariant sheaf counting theory on K3 surfaces with finite group actions. Let $\sS=[S/G]$ be a global quotient stack, where $S$ is a K3 surface and $G$ is a finite group acting as symplectic homomorphisms on $S$. We show that the Joyce invariants counting Gieseker semistable sheaves on $\sS$ are independent on the Bridgeland stability conditions. As an application we prove the multiple cover formula of Y. Toda for the counting invariants for semistable sheaves on local K3 surfaces with a symplectic finite group action.
In this note we derive a formalism for describing equivariant sheaves over toric varieties. This formalism is a generalization of a correspondence due to Klyachko, which states that equivariant vector bundles on toric varieties are equivalent to certain sets of filtrations of vector spaces. We systematically construct the theory from the point of view of graded ring theory and this way we clarify earlier constructions of Kaneyama and Klyachko. We also connect the formalism to the theory of fine-graded modules over Cox' homogeneous coordinate ring of a toric variety. As an application we constr…
We give a new interpretation of Kozsul cohomology, which is equivalent under the Bridgeland-King-Reid equivalence to Voisin's Hilbert scheme interpretation in dimensions 1 and 2, but is different in higher dimensions. As an application, we prove that the dimension $K_{p,q}(B,L)$ is a polynomial in $d$ for $L=dA+P$ with $A$ ample and $d$ large enough.
We study the singularities of algebraic difference equations on curves from the point of view of equivariant sheaves. We propose a definition for the formal local type of an equivariant sheaf at a point in the case of a reduced curve acted on by a group which is virtually the integers. We show that with this definition, equivariant sheaves can be glued from an "open cover". Precisely, we show that an equivariant sheaf can be uniquely recovered from the following data: the restriction to the complement of a point, the local type at the point itself, and an isomorphism between the two over the p…
Fix a scheme $X$ over a field of characteristic zero that is equipped with an action of a reductive algebraic group $G$. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a $G$-equivariant coherent sheaf on $X$ or a bounded-above complex of $G$-equivariant coherent sheaves on $X$ to descend to a good quotient $X//G$. This gives a description of the coherent derived category of $X//G$ as an admissible subcategory of the equivariant derived category of $X$.
We develop an approach that allows to construct semiorthogonal decompositions of derived categories of surfaces with cyclic quotient singularities whose components are equivalent to derived categories of local finite dimensional algebras. We first explain how to induce a semiorthogonal decomposition of a surface $X$ with rational singularities from a semiorthogonal decomposition of its resolution. In the case when $X$ has cyclic quotient singularities, we introduce the condition of adherence for the components of the semiorthogonal decomposition of the resolution that allows to identify the co…
We discuss Calabi-Yau and fractional Calabi-Yau semiorthogonal components of derived categories of coherent sheaves on smooth projective varieties. The main result is a general construction of a fractional Calabi-Yau category from a rectangular Lefschetz decomposition and a spherical functor. We give many examples of application of this construction and discuss some general properties of Calabi-Yau categories.
We study equivariant sheaves over profinite spaces, where the group is also taken to be profinite. We resolve a serious deficit in the existing theory by constructing a good notion of equivariant presheaves, with a suitable equivariant sheafification functor. Using equivariant sheafification, we develop the general theory of equivariant sheaves of modules over a ring, give explicit constructions of infinite products and introduce an equivariant analogue of skyscraper sheaves. These results underlie recent work by the authors which proves that there is an algebraic model for rational G-spectra …
Given a variety $Y$ with a rectangular Lefschetz decomposition of its derived category, we consider a degree $n$ cyclic cover $X \to Y$ ramified over a divisor $Z \subset Y$. We construct semiorthogonal decompositions of $\mathrm{D^b}(X)$ and $\mathrm{D^b}(Z)$ with distinguished components $\mathcal{A}_X$ and $\mathcal{A}_Z$, and prove the equivariant category of $\mathcal{A}_X$ (with respect to an action of the $n$-th roots of unity) admits a semiorthogonal decomposition into $n-1$ copies of $\mathcal{A}_Z$. As examples we consider quartic double solids, Gushel-Mukai varieties, and cyclic cub…
In this work we construct global resolutions for general coherent equivariant sheaves over toric varieties. For this, we use the framework of sheaves over posets. We develop a notion of gluing of posets and of sheaves over posets, which we apply to construct global resolutions for equivariant sheaves. Our constructions give a natural correspondence between resolutions for reflexive equivariant sheaves and free resolutions of vector space arrangements.
We give a description of certain categories of equivariant coherent sheaves on Grothendieck's resolution in terms of the categorical affine Hecke algebra of Soergel. As an application, we deduce a relationship of these coherent sheaf categories to the categories of perverse sheaves considered in the work of Bezrukavnikov-Yun, generalizing results of Arkhipov-Bezrukavnikov. In addition, we deduce that the weak braid group action on sheaves of Riche and Bezrukavnikov-Riche can be upgraded to a strict braid group action.
In the present paper we extend the theory of sheaves on moment graphs due to Braden-MacPherson and Fiebig to the context of an arbitrary oriented equivariant cohomology h (e.g. to algebraic cobordism). We introduce and investigate structure h-sheaves on double moment graphs to describe equivariant oriented cohomology of products of flag varieties. We show that in the case of a total flag variety X of Dynkin type A the space of global sections of the double structure h-sheaf also describes the endomorphism ring of the equivariant h-motive of X.
We describe categories of equivariant vector bundles on certain toroidal spherical varieties in linear algebra terms: vector spaces equipped with filtrations, group and Lie algebra actions, and linear maps preserving these structures.
We construct a semiorthogonal decomposition of the derived category of coherent sheaves on a quadric fibration consisting of several copies of the derived category of the base of the fibration and the derived category of coherent sheaves of modules over the sheaf of even parts of the Clifford algebras on the base corresponding to this quadric fibration, generalizing the Kapranov's description of the derived category of a single quadric. As an application we verify that the noncommutative algebraic variety $(\PP(S^2W^*),\CB_0)$, where $\CB_0$ is the universal sheaf of even parts of Clifford alg…
For (X,L) a polarized toric variety and G a torus of automorphisms of (X,L), denote by Y the GIT quotient X/G. We define a family of fully faithful functors from the category of torus equivariant reflexive sheaves on Y to the category of torus equivariant reflexive sheaves on X. We show, under a genericity assumption on G, that slope stability is preserved by these functors if and only if the pair ((X, L), G) satisfies a combinatorial criterion. As an application, when (X,L) is a polarized toric orbifold of dimension n, we relate stable equivariant reflexive sheaves on (X, L) to stable equivar…
A classical result of Bondal-Orlov states that a standard flip in birational geometry gives rise to a fully faithful functor between derived categories of coherent sheaves. We complete their embedding into a semiorthogonal decomposition by describing the complement. As an application, we can lift the "quadratic Fano correspondence" (due to Galkin-Shinder) in the Grothendieck ring of varieties between a smooth cubic hypersurface, its Fano variety of lines, and its Hilbert square, to a semiorthogonal decomposition. We also show that the Hilbert square of a cubic hypersurface of dimension at leas…
We define and study a gluing procedure for Bridgeland stability conditions in the situation when a triangulated category has a semiorthogonal decomposition. As an application we construct stability conditions on the derived categories of ${\mathbb{Z}}_2$-equivariant sheaves associated with ramified double coverings of ${\mathbb{P}}^3$. Also, we study the stability space for the derived category of ${\mathbb{Z}}_2$-equivariant coherent sheaves on a smooth curve $X$, associated with a degree 2 map $X\to Y$, where $Y$ is another smooth curve. In the case when the genus of $Y$ is $\geq 1$ we give …
In this thesis we study two main topics which culminate in a proof that four distinct definitions of the equivariant derived category of a smooth algebraic group $G$ acting on a variety $X$ are in fact equivalent. In the first part of this thesis we introduce and study equivariant categories on a quasi-projective variety $X$. These are a generalization of the equivariant derived category of Lusztig and are indexed by certain pseudofunctors that take values in the 2-category of categories. This 2-categorical generalization allow us to prove rigorously and carefully when such categories are addi…
Let $G$ be a finite subgroup in SU(2), and $Q$ the corresponding affine Dynkin diagram. In this paper, we review the relation between the categories of $G$-equivariant sheaves on $P^1$ and $Rep Q_h$, where $h$ is an orientation of $Q$, constructing an explicit equivalence of corresponding derived categories.
In this paper we consider orthogonal geometry of the free $\protect\ZZ$-module $K_0(\protect\PP_n)$ with respect to the non-symmetric unimodular bilinear form $$χ(E,F)=\sum (-1)^ν\dim\ext^ν(E,F). $$ We calculate the isometry group of this form and describe invariants of its natural action on $K_0(\protect\PP_n)$. Also we consider some general constructions with non-symmetric unimodular forms. In particular, we discuss orthogonal decomposition of such forms and the action of the braid group on a set of semiorthonormal bases. We formulate a list of natural arithmetical conjectures about semiorth…
In math.AG/0005152 a certain $t$-structure on the derived category of equivariant coherent sheaves on the nil-cone of a simple complex algebraic group was introduced (the so-called perverse $t$-structure corresponding to the middle perversity). In the present note we show that the same $t$-structure can be obtained from a natural quasi-exceptional set generating this derived category. As a consequence we obtain a bijection between the sets of dominant weights and pairs consisting of a nilpotent orbit, and an irreducible representation of the centralizer of this element, conjectured by Lusztig …
In this paper, using the quantum McKay correspondence, we construct the "derived category" of G-equivariant sheaves on the quantum projective line at a root of unity. More precisely, we use the representation theory of U_{q}sl(2) at root of unity to construct an analogue of the symmetric algebra and the structure sheaf. The analogue of the structure sheaf is, in fact, a complex, and moreover it is a dg-algebra. Our derived category arises via a triangulated category of G-equivariant dg-modules for this dg-algebra. We then relate this to representations of the quiver (Γ, \Om), where Γis the A,D…
Let X be a scheme, and let G be an affine group scheme acting on X. Under reasonable hypotheses on X and G, we construct a t-structure on the derived category of G-equivariant coherent sheaves that in many ways resembles the perverse coherent t-structure, but which incorporates additional information from the G-action. Under certain circumstances, this t-structure, called the "staggered t-structure," has an artinian heart, and its simple objects are particularly easy to describe. We also exhibit two small examples in which the staggered t-structure is better-behaved than the perverse coherent …
We study global primary decompositions in the category of sheaves on a scheme which are equivariant under the action of an algebraic group. We show that equivariant primary decompositions exist if the group is connected. As main application we consider the case of varieties which are quotients of a quasi-affine variety by the action of a diagonalizable group and thus admit a homogeneous coordinate ring, such as toric varieties. Comparing these decompositions with primary decompositions of graded modules over the homogeneous coordinate ring, we show that these are equivalent if the action of th…
We study the bounded derived categories of torus-equivariant coherent sheaves on smooth toric varieties and Deligne-Mumford stacks. We construct and describe full exceptional collections in these categories. We also observe that these categories depend only on the PL homeomorphism type of the corresponding simplicial complex.
