The aim of these notes is to generalize Laumon's construction [18] of automorphic sheaves corresponding to local systems on a smooth, projective curve $C$ to the case of local systems with indecomposable unipotent ramification at a finite set of points. To this end we need an extension of the notion of parabolic structure on vector bundles to coherent sheaves. Once we have defined this, a lot of arguments from the article "On the geometric Langlands conjecture" by Frenkel, Gaitsgory and Vilonen [10] carry over to our situation. We show that our sheaves descend to the moduli space of parabolic bundles if the rank is $\leq 3$ and that the general case can be deduced form a generalization of the vanishing conjecture of [10].
This paper uses rigid Hecke eigensheaves, building on Yun's work on the construction of motives with exceptional Galois groups, to produce the first robust examples of `generalized Kuga-Satake theory' outside the Tannakian category of motives generated by abelian varieties. To strengthen our description of the `motivic' nature of Kuga-Satake lifts, we digress to establish a result that should be of independent interest: for any quasi-projective variety over a (finitely-generated) characteristic zero field, the associated weight-graded of its intersection cohomology arises from a motivated moti…
We study the Geometric Langlands Conjecture (GLC) for rank two flat bundles on the projective line $C$ with tame ramification at five points $\{p_{1}, p_{2}, p_{3}, p_{4}, p_{5} \}$. In particular we construct the automorphic $D$-modules predicted by GLC on the moduli space of rank two parabolic bundles on $(C, \{p_{1}, p_{2}, p_{3}, p_{4}, p_{5} \})$. The construction uses non-abelian Hodge theory and a Fourier-Mukai transform along the fibers of the Hitchin fibration to reduce the problem to one in classical projective geometry on the intersection of two quadrics in $\mathbb{P}^{4}$.
We prove that the category of Hecke eigensheaves in the metaplectic Whittaker category of the affine Grassmannian is equivalent to the category of modules over the small quantum group. This a step towards proving the FLE: the fundamental local equivalence in the quantum geometric Langlands theory.
Let $f:X\to Y$ be a finite ramified Galois covering of algebraic varieties defined over the complex numbers. In this paper, we prove some structure theorems for such coverings in the case that the non-abelian Galois group of the cover is metabelian (in particular metacyclic). Our results extend the previous ones, obtained by several authors, in the case of abelian and dihedral Galois coverings. In analogy with the abelian (and generalizing the dihedral) case, we find "building data" of metabelian covers from which the cover can be reconstructed. In addition to analyzing several examples, we co…
The global geometric Langlands correspondence relates Hecke eigensheaves on the moduli stack of G-bundles on a smooth projective algebraic curve X and holomorphic G'-bundles with connection on X, where G' is the Langlands dual group of G. This correspondence is relatively well understood when the connection has no singularities, i.e., is unramified. But what should happen if the connection has singularities, or ramification, at finitely many points of X? In this case we expect to attach to it a category of Hecke eigensheaves on a suitable moduli stack of G-bundles on X with parabolic (or level…
This note explains an approach to producing examples of 'generalized Kuga-Satake theory' based on establishing special cases of Simpson's conjecture that rigid local systems are motivic. This strategy is then carried out, using work of Bogner and Reiter, in a low-dimensional example, producing the first non-trivial examples of generalized Kuga-Satake theory outside of the Tannakian category of motives generated by abelian varieties. For a more robust collection of examples, see the sequel "Generalized Kuga-Satake theory and rigid local systems, II: rigid Hecke eigensheaves."
In "Quantization of Hitchin's Integrable System and Hecke Eigensheaves", Beilinson and Drinfeld introduced the "very good" property for a smooth complex equidimensional stack. They prove that for a semisimple complex group G, the moduli stack of G-bundles over a smooth complex projective curve X is "very good", as long as X has genus g > 1. In the case of the projective line, when g = 0, this is not the case. However, the result can sometimes be extended to the projective line by introducing additional parabolic structure at a collection of marked points and slightly modifying the definition o…
Generalised hypergeometric sheaves are rigid local systems on the punctured projective line with remarkable properties. Their study originated in the seminal work of Riemann on the Euler--Gauss hypergeometric function and has blossomed into an active field with connections to many areas of mathematics. In this paper, we construct the Hecke eigensheaves whose eigenvalues are the irreducible hypergeometric local systems, thus confirming a central conjecture of the geometric Langlands program for hypergeometrics. The key new concept is the notion of hypergeometric automorphic data. We prove that …
This paper deals with the geometric local theta correspondence at the Iwahori level for dual reductive pairs of type II over a non Archimedean field $F$ of characteristic $p\neq 2$ in the framework of the geometric Langlands program. First we construct and study the geometric version of the invariants of the Weil representation of the Iwahori-Hecke algebras. In the particular case of $(GL_1, GL_m)$ we give a complete geometric description of the corresponding category. The second part of the paper deals with geometric local Langlands functoriality at the Iwahori level in a general setting. Giv…
It is expected that, under mild conditions, local Langlands correspondence preserves depths of representations. In this article, we formulate a conjectural geometrisation of this expectation. We prove half of this conjecture by showing that the depth of a categorical representation of the loop group is less than or equal to the depth of its underlying geometric Langlands parameter. A key ingredient of our proof is a new definition of the slope of a meromorphic connection, a definition which uses opers. In the appendix, we consider a relationship between our conjecture and Zhu's conjecture on n…
In this article, we prove results about the cohomology of compact unitary group Shimura varieties at split places. In nonendoscopic cases, we are able to give a full description of the cohomology, after restricting to integral Hecke operators at p on the automorphic side. We allow arbitrary ramification at p; even the PEL data may be ramified. This gives a description of the semisimple local Hasse-Weil zeta function in these cases. We also treat cases of nontrivial endoscopy. For this purpose, we give a general stabilization of the expression given in previous work, following the stabilization…
The article is a contribution to the local theory of geometric Langlands correspondence. The main result is a categorification of the isomorphism between the (extended) affine Hecke algebra, thought of as an algebra of Iwahori bi-invariant functions on a semi-simple group over a local non-Archimedian field, and Grothendieck group of equivariant coherent sheaves on Steinberg variety of the Langlands dual group; this isomorphism due to Kazhdan--Lusztig and Ginzburg is a key step in the proof of tamely ramified local Langlands conjectures. The paper is a continuation of an earlier joint work with…
We give a group theoretic definition of "local models" as sought after in the theory of Shimura varieties. These are projective schemes over the integers of a $p$-adic local field that are expected to model the singularities of integral models of Shimura varieties with parahoric level structure. Our local models are certain mixed characteristic degenerations of Grassmannian varieties; they are obtained by extending constructions of Beilinson, Drinfeld, Gaitsgory and the second-named author to mixed characteristics and to the case of general (tamely ramified) reductive groups. We study the sing…
In a previous paper, the first and third authors gave an explicit realization of the geometric Langlands correspondence for hypergeometric sheaves, considered as $\textrm{GL}_n$-local systems. Certain hypergeometric local systems admit a symplectic or orthogonal structure, which can be viewed as $\check{G}$-local systems, for a classical group $\check{G}$. This article aims to realize the geometric Langlands correspondence for these $\check{G}$-local systems. We study this problem from two aspects. In the first approach, we define the hypergeometric automorphic data for a classical group $G$ i…
