We review the theory of non-commutative deformations of sheaves and describe a versal deformation by using an A-infinity algebra and the change of differentials of an injective resolution. We give some explicit non-trivial examples.
We determine versal non-commutative deformations of some simple collections in the categories of perverse coherent sheaves arising from tilting generators for projective morphisms.
We consider non-commutative deformations of sheaves on algebraic varieties. We develop some tools to determine parameter algebras of versal non-commutative deformations for partial simple collections and the structure sheaves of smooth rational curves. We apply them to universal flopping contractions of length 2 and higher. We confirm Donovan-Wemyss conjecture in the case of deformations of Laufer's flops.
The moduli spaces of stable sheaves on projective schemes admit certain gluing data of Kapranov's NC structures, which we call quasi NC structures. The formal completion of the quasi NC structure at a closed point coincides with the pro-representable hull of the non-commutative deformation functor of the corresponding sheaf. In this paper, we show the existence of smooth non-commutative dg-resolutions of the above quasi NC structures, and call them quasi NCDG structures. When there are no higher obstruction spaces, the quasi NCDG structures define the notion of NC virtual structure sheaves, th…
We compare the obstruction classes defined in arXiv:1101.4069 to those defined by Illusie. We also give sheaf theoretic proofs of some of the standard properties of the cotangent complex.
We show that the moduli spaces of stable sheaves on projective schemes admit certain non-commutative structures, which we call quasi NC structures, generalizing Kapranov's NC structures. The completion of our quasi NC structure at a closed point of the moduli space gives a pro-representable hull of the non-commutative deformation functor of the corresponding sheaf developed by Laudal, Eriksen, Segal and Efimov-Lunts-Orlov. We also show that the framed stable moduli spaces of sheaves have canonical NC structures.
We show that some types for supercuspidal representations of tamely ramified $p$-adic groups that appear in Jiu-Kang Yu's work are geometrizable. To do so, we define a function-sheaf dictionary for one-dimensional characters of arbitrary smooth group schemes over finite fields. In previous work we considered the case of commutative smooth group schemes and found that the standard definition of character sheaves produced a dictionary with a nontrivial kernel. In this paper we give a modification of the category of character sheaves that remedies this defect, and is also extensible to non-commut…
We define a sheaf of abelian groups whose cohomology is represented by the cotangent complex. We show how obstructions to some standard deformation problems arise as the classes of torsors under and gerbes banded by this sheaf.
In this short paper we outline (mostly without proofs) our new approach to the derived category of sheaves of commutative DG rings. The proofs will appear in a subsequent paper. Among other things, we explain how to form the derived intersection of two closed subschemes inside a given algebraic scheme X, without recourse to simplicial or higher homotopical methods, and without any global assumptions on X.
Let $X$ be a complex torus of dimension $g$ and $\hat{X}$ be the dual torus. For any $g(g-1)/2$-tuple $λ$ of complex numbers of absolute value $1$, we define a non-commutative complex torus $X_λ$ as a sheaf of algebras on a real torus of dimension $g$. We prove that if all components of $λ$ are roots of unity, then the category of coherent sheaves on $X_λ$ is abelian and derived-equivalent to the category of coherent sheaves on $\hat{X}$ twisted by an element of the Brauer group of $\hat{X}$ determined by $λ$.
We establish a criterion for sheaves on an adically complete DG scheme to be coherent. We deduce a description of coherent sheaves on an adically complete lci singularity in terms of modules for a DG Lie algebra.
For a regular noetherian scheme $X$ with a divisor with strict normal crossings $D$ we prove that coherent sheaves satisfy descent w.r.t. the 'covering' consisting of the open parts in the various completions of $X$ along the components of $D$ and their intersections.
The Cremona group acts on the field of two independent commutative variables over complex numbers. We provide a non-commutative ring that is an analog of non-commutative field of two independent variables and prove that the Cremona group embeds in the group of outer automorphisms of this ring. First proof of this result is technical, the second one is conceptual and gives a way to obtain non-commutative rings from the bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves.
We will generalize the projective model structure in the category of unbounded complexes of modules over a commutative ring to the category of unbounded complexes of quasi-coherent sheaves over the projective line. Concretely we will define a locally projective model structure in the category of complexes of quasi-coherent sheaves on the projective line. In this model structure the cofibrant objects are the dg-locally projective complexes. We also describe the fibrations of this model structure and show that the model structure is monoidal. We point out that this model structure is necessarily…
A geometric stack is a quasi-compact and semi-separated algebraic stack. We prove that the quasi-coherent sheaves on the small flat topology, Cartesian presheaves on the underlying category, and comodules over a Hopf algebroid associated to a presentation of a geometric stack are equivalent categories. As a consequence, we show that the category of quasi-coherent sheaves on a geometric stack is a Grothendieck category. We associate, in a 2-functorial way, to a 1-morphism of geometric stacks $f$, an adjunction $(f^*, f_*)$ for the corresponding categories of quasi-coherent sheaves that agrees w…
In this note we realize the sheaf of Cherednik algebras $H_{1, c, X, G}$ on a general good complex orbifold $X/G$, originally introduced by Etingof for smooth complex varieties with an action by a finite group, by gluing sheaves of flat sections of flat holomorphic vector bundles on orbit type strata in $X$ which result from a localization procedure. In the case, when $c$ is formal, this construction can be interpreted as a formal deformation of $D_X\rtimes\mathbb CG$ via Gel'fand-Kazhdan formal geometry. Contrary to the original definition of $H_{1, c, X, G}$ the presented construction permit…
In this paper we give a geometric version of the Satake isomorphism. Given a connected complex reductive algebraic group, we show that the category of representations of its Langlands dual is naturally equivalent to a certain category of perverse sheaves on the complex affine Grassmannian. We can work with perverse sheaves with coefficients in an arbitrary commutative ring and then we recover the representation theory of the split form of the dual group over the commutative ring.
In this article we introduce a new class of non-commutative projective curves and show that in certain cases the derived category of coherent sheaves on them has a tilting complex. In particular, we prove that the right bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a reduced rational projective curve with only nodes and cusps as singularities, can be fully faithfully embedded into the right bounded derived category of the finite dimensional representations of a certain finite dimensional algebra of global dimension two. As an application of our approach we show the dimension of the bounded d…
This paper is the text of a lecture given at the Catania conference on Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry, in honor of the 60th birthday of Silvio Greco. It analyses the correspondences between equivalence classes of objects related to the projective 3-space ${\bf P}^3_k$ over a field $k$ : - vector bundles ${\cal F}$ such that $H_*^2({\cal F})=0$ up to stable equivalence - coherent sheaves of projective dimension $\leq 1$ up to pseudo-equivalence - finite length graded $k[X,Y,Z,T]$-modules, modulo isomorphism - biliaison classes of locally Cohen-Macaulay curves. In particular, it lead…
We show how derived categories build bridges across the current mathematical mainstream, linking geometric and algebraic, commutative and noncommutative, local and global banks. Arches in these bridges are pieces of semiorthogonal decompositions of triangulated categories. To appear in the Proceedings of the ICM 2002 in Beijing.
We expand our previously founded basic theory of equiresidual algebraic geometry over an arbitrary commutative field, to a well-behaved theory of (equiresidual) algebraic varieties over a commutative field, thanks to the generalisation of affine algebraic geometry by the use of canonical localisations and $*$-algebras. We work here in an equivalent and more suggestive "concrete" setting with structural sheaves of functions into the base field, which allows us to give a set-theoretic description of the products of equivarieties in general. Locally closed subvarieties are naturally equipped with…
In this paper, we study equivalences between the categories of quasi-coherent sheaves on non-commutative noetherian schemes. In particular, give a new proof of Caldararu's conjecture about Morita equivalences of Azumaya algebras on noetherian schemes. Moreover, we derive necessary and sufficient condition for two reduced non-commutative curves to be Morita equivalent.
Let S be a K3 surface and M a smooth and projective 2n-dimensional moduli space of stable coherent sheaves on S. Over M x M there exists a rank 2n-2 reflexive hyperholomorphic sheaf E_M, whose fiber over a non-diagonal point (F,G) is Ext^1(F,G). The sheaf E_M can be deformed along some twistor path to a sheaf E_X over the cartesian square of every Kahler manifold X deformation equivalent to M. We prove that E_X is infinitesimally rigid, and the isomorphism class of the Azumaya algebra End(E_X) is independent of the twistor path chosen. This verifies conjectures in arXiv:1310.5782 and arXiv:150…
We define formal vector bundles with marked sections on Hilbert modular schemes and we show how to use them to construct modular sheaves with an integrable meromorphic connection and a filtration which, in degree 0, gives to us a $p$-adic interpolation of the usual Hodge filtration. We relate it with the sheaf of overconvergent Hilbert modular forms.
We consider the rigid monoidal category of character sheaves on a smooth commutative group scheme $G$ over a finite field $k$ and expand the scope of the function-sheaf dictionary from connected commutative algebraic groups to this setting. We find the group of isomorphism classes of character sheaves on $G$ and show that it is an extension of the group of characters of $G(k)$ by a cohomology group determined by the component group scheme of $G$. We also classify all morphisms in the category character sheaves on $G$. As an application, we study character sheaves on Greenberg transforms of loc…
We study non-commutative projective lines over not necessarily algebraic bimodules. In particular, we give a complete description of their categories of coherent sheaves and show they are derived equivalent to certain bimodule species. This allows us to classify modules over these species and thus generalize, and give a geometric interpretation for, results of C. Ringel.
Let $(\mathcal C,\otimes,1)$ be an abelian symmetric monoidal category satisfying certain conditions and let $X$ be a scheme over $(\mathcal C,\otimes,1)$ in the sense of Toën and Vaquié. In this paper we show that when $X$ is quasi-compact and semi-separated, any quasi-coherent sheaf on $X$ may be expressed as a directed colimit of its finitely generated quasi-coherent submodules. Thereafter, we introduce a notion of "field objects" in $(\mathcal C,\otimes,1)$ that satisfy several properties similar to those of fields in usual commutative algebra. Finally we show that the points of a Noetheri…
We prove the following criterion for the pro-representability of the deformation cohomology of a commutative formal Lie group. Let f be a flat and separated morphism between noetherian schemes. Assume that the target of f is flat over the integers. For a commutative formal Lie group E, we have the deformation cohomology of f with coefficients in E at our disposal. If the higher direct images of the tangent space of E are locally free and of finite rank then the deformation cohomology is pro-representable by a commutative formal Lie group.
We construct a motivic Eilenberg-MacLane spectrum with a highly structured multiplication over smooth schemes over Dedekind domains which represents Levine's motivic cohomology. The latter is defined via Bloch's cycle complexes. Our method is by gluing p-completed and rational parts along an arithmetic square. Hereby the finite coefficient spectra are obtained by truncated étale sheaves (relying on the now proven Bloch-Kato conjecture) and a variant of Geisser's version of syntomic cohomology, and the rational spectra are the ones which represent Beilinson motivic cohomology. As an application…
We provide a construction of the moduli space of stable coherent sheaves in the world of non-archimedean geometry, where we use the notion of Berkovich non-archimedean analytic spaces. The motivation for our construction is Tony Yue Yu's non-archimedean enumerative geometry in Gromov-Witten theory. The construction of the moduli space of stable sheaves using Berkovich analytic spaces will give rise to the non-archimedean version of Donaldson-Thomas invariants. In this paper we give the moduli construction over a non-archimedean field $\kk$. We use the machinery of formal schemes, that is, we d…
We study relations between the quadraticity of the Kuranishi family of a coherent sheaf on a complex projective scheme and the formality of the DG-Lie algebra of its derived endomorphisms. In particular, we prove that for a polystable coherent sheaf on a smooth complex projective surface the DG-Lie algebra of derived endomorphisms is formal if and only if the Kuranishi family is quadratic.
This is a mostly expository paper, intended to explain a very natural relationship between two a priori distinct notions appearing in the literature: Generic Vanishing in the context of vanishing theorems and birational geometry, and Perverse Coherent Sheaves in the context of derived categories. I describe homological and commutative algebra criteria for checking either condition, and then recall applications to geometric situations. A few new results, and especially new proofs, are included as well.
We relate the gerbe of sheaves of chiral differential operators (CDO) on a algebraic variety X, studied by Gorbounov, Malikov and Schechtman, to the determinantal gerbe of the formal loop space LX introduced in our earlier paper. The liens of the two gerbes are related by a version of the symplectic action homomorphism. The determinantal gerbe of LX has a factorization structure in the spirit of Beilinson and Drinfeld. In our identification, sheaves of CDO correspond to factorizing objects of this factorization gerbe.
There exists the Krichever map from the set of quintets (C,p,F,t,e) (where C is an integral and complete algebraic curve, p a smooth rational point, F a rank 2 torsion free coherent sheaf on C, t a local formal parameter in p and e a formal trivialization of F around p) to the infinite Grassmanian of $k((z)) \oplus k((z))$. We describe the images of quintets with (semi)stable sheaves F in terms of Plucker coordinates and get some analog of GIT Hilbert-Mumford numerical criterion with respect to actions of some 1-parametric subgroups of the group $SL(2,k[[z]])$ on the determinant bundle of the …
In this work we introduce reciprocity functors, construct the associated K-group of a family of reciprocity functors, which itself is a reciprocity functor, and compute it in several different cases. It may be seen as a first attempt to get close to the notion of reciprocity sheaves imagined by B. Kahn. Commutative algebraic groups, homotopy invariant Nisnevich sheaves with transfers, cycle modules or Kähler differentials are examples of reciprocity functors. As commutative algebraic groups do, reciprocity functors are equipped with symbols and satisfy a reciprocity law for curves.
For a noetherian scheme that has an ample family of invertible sheaves, we prove that direct products in the category of quasi-coherent sheaves are not exact unless the scheme is affine. This result can especially be applied to all quasi-projective schemes over commutative noetherian rings. The main tools of the proof are the Gabriel-Popescu embedding and Roos' characterization of Grothendieck categories satisfying Ab6 and Ab4*.
The central aim of this monograph is to provide decomposition results for quasi-coherent sheaves on the moduli stack of one-dimensional formal groups. These results will be based on the geometry of the stack itself, particularly the height filtration and an analysis of the formal neighborhoods of the geometric points. The main theorems are algebraic chromatic convergence results and fracture square decompositions. There is a major technical hurdle in this story, as the moduli stack of formal groups does not have the finitness properties required of an algebraic stack as usually defined. This i…
We study families of algebraic varieties parametrized by topological spaces and generalize some classical results such as Hilbert Nullstellensatz and primary decomposition of commutative rings. We show that there is an equivalence between the category of bivariant coherent sheaves and the category of sheaves of finitely generated modules.
In 1996, Rothstein and Laumon simultaneously constructed a Fourier-Mukai transform for D-modules over a locally noetherian base of characteristic 0. This functor induces an equivalence of categories between quasi-coherent sheaves of D-modules over an abelian variety A and quasicoherent sheaves of O-modules over its universal vectorial extension A. In this article, we define a Fourier-Mukai transform for D-modules on an abelian formal scheme A/S = Spf (V), where V is a discrete valuation ring, and we discuss the extension of the classical results of Fourier-Mukai transform to this arithmetic ca…
If Y,Z are three-dimensional smooth varieties related by a flop, then Bondal and Orlov conjectured that the derived categories of coherent sheaves on Y and Z are equivalent. This conjecture was recently proved by Bridgeland. Our aim in this paper is to give a partially new proof of Bridgeland's result using non-commutative rings. The new proof also covers some mild singular and higher dimensional situations (including the one in the recent paper by Chen: ``Flops and Equivalences of derived Categories for Threefolds with only Gorenstein Singularities'').
An Ulrich sheaf on an embedded projective variety is a normalized arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay sheaf with the maximum possible number of independent sections. Ulrich sheaves are important in the theory of Chow forms, Boij-Soderberg theory, generalized Clifford algebras, and for an approach to Lech's conjecture in commutative algebra. In this note, we give a reduction of the construction of Ulrich sheaves on a projective variety X to the construction of an Ulrich sheaf for a finite map of curves, which is in turn equivalent to a higher-rank Brill-Noether problem for any of a certain class of c…
We use homological methods to establish a formal criterion for Generic Vanishing, in the sense originated by Green and Lazarsfeld and pursued further by Hacon and the first author, but in the context of an arbitrary Fourier-Mukai correspondence. For smooth projective varieties we apply this to deduce a Kodaira-type generic vanishing theorem for adjoint bundles of the form $K_X + L$ with $L$ a nef line bundle, and in fact a more general generic Nadel-type vanishing theorem for multiplier ideal sheaves. Still in the context of the Picard variety, the same method generates various other generic v…
Let R be a non-commutative field. We prove that generic triples of flags in an m-dimensional R-vector space are described by flat R-line bundles on the honeycomb graph with (m-1)(m-2)/2 holes. Generalising this, we prove that non-commutative stacks X(m,S) of framed rank m flat R-vector bundles of on decorated surfaces S are birationally identified with the moduli spaces of flat line bundles on a spectral surface assigned to certain bipartite graphs on S. We introduce non-commutative cluster Poisson varieties related to bipartite ribbon graphs. They carry canonical non-commutative Poisson struc…
We develop the notion of indscheme in the context of derived algebraic geometry, and study the categories of quasi-coherent sheaves and ind-coherent sheaves on indschemes. The main results concern the relation between classical and derived indschemes and the notion of formal smoothness.
We describe a noncommutative deformation theory for presheaves and sheaves of modules that generalizes the commutative deformation theory of these global algebraic structures, and the noncommutative deformation theory of modules over algebras due to Laudal. In the first part of the paper, we describe a noncommutative deformation functor for presheaves of modules on a small category, and an obstruction theory for this functor in terms of global Hochschild cohomology. An important feature of this obstruction theory is that it can be computed in concrete terms in many interesting cases. In the la…

Let $X$ be a smooth connected projective algebraic curve over an algebraically closed field, and let $S$ be a finite nonempty closed subset in $X$. We study deformations of $\overline{\mathbb F}_\ell$-sheaves. The universal deformation space is a formal scheme. Its generic fiber has a rigid analytic space structure. By studying this rigid analytic space, we prove a conjecture of Katz which says that if a lisse $\overline{\mathbb Q}_\ell$-sheaf $\mathcal F$ on $X-S$ is irreducible and rigid, then we have $\mathrm{dim}\, H^1(X,j_\ast\mathcal End(\mathcal F))=2g$, where $j:X-S\to X$ is the open i…
We show that any commutative rationally ruled surface with a choice of anticanonical curve admits a 1-parameter family of noncommutative deformations parametrized by the Jacobian of the anticanonical curve, and show that many standard facts from commutative geometry (blowups commute, Quot schemes are projective, etc.) carry over. The key new tool in studying these deformations is a relatively simple description of their derived categories and the relevant t-structures; this also allows us to establish nontrivial derived equivalences for deformations of elliptic surfaces. We also establish that…
We describe the mod $p^r$ pro $K$-groups $\{K_n(A/I^s)/p^r\}_s$ of a regular local $\mathbb F_p$-algebra $A$ modulo powers of a suitable ideal $I$, in terms of logarithmic Hodge-Witt groups, by proving pro analogues of the theorems of Geisser-Levine and Bloch-Kato-Gabber. This is achieved by combining the pro Hochschild-Kostant-Rosenberg theorem in topological cyclic homology with the development of the theory of de Rham-Witt complexes and logarithmic Hodge-Witt sheaves on formal schemes in characteristic $p$. Applications include the following: the infinitesimal part of the weak Lefschetz con…
