If Y,Z are three-dimensional smooth varieties related by a flop, then Bondal and Orlov conjectured that the derived categories of coherent sheaves on Y and Z are equivalent. This conjecture was recently proved by Bridgeland. Our aim in this paper is to give a partially new proof of Bridgeland's result using non-commutative rings. The new proof also covers some mild singular and higher dimensional situations (including the one in the recent paper by Chen: ``Flops and Equivalences of derived Categories for Threefolds with only Gorenstein Singularities'').
The Abuaf-Ueda flop is a 7-dimensional flop related to $G_2$ homogeneous spaces. The derived equivalence for this flop was first proved by Ueda using mutations of semi-orthogonal decompositions. In this article, we give an alternative proof for the derived equivalence using tilting bundles. Our proof also shows the existence of a non-commutative crepant resolution of the singularity appearing in the flopping contraction. We also give some results on moduli spaces of finite-length modules over this non-commutative crepant resolution.
We consider non-commutative deformations of sheaves on algebraic varieties. We develop some tools to determine parameter algebras of versal non-commutative deformations for partial simple collections and the structure sheaves of smooth rational curves. We apply them to universal flopping contractions of length 2 and higher. We confirm Donovan-Wemyss conjecture in the case of deformations of Laufer's flops.
In this article, we construct a non-commutative crepant resolution (=NCCR) of a minimal nilpotent orbit closure $\overline{B(1)}$ of type A, and study relations between an NCCR and crepant resolutions $Y$ and $Y^+$ of $\overline{B(1)}$. More precisely, we show that the NCCR is isomorphic to the path algebra of the double Beilinson quiver with certain relations and we reconstruct the crepant resolutions $Y$ and $Y^+$ of $\overline{B(1)}$ as moduli spaces of representations of the quiver. We also study the Kawamata-Namikawa's derived equivalence between crepant resolutions $Y$ and $Y^+$ of $\ove…
The paper is Part III of our ongoing project to study a case of Crepant Transformation Conjecture: K-equivalence Conjecture for ordinary flops. In this paper we prove the invariance of quantum rings for general ordinary flops, whose local models are certain non-split toric bundles over arbitrary smooth base. An essential ingredient in the proof is a quantum splitting principle, which reduces a statement in Gromov--Witten theory on non-split bundles to the case of split bundles.
We show that the non-commutative widths for flopping curves on smooth 3-folds introduced by Donovan-Wemyss are described by Katz's genus zero Gopakumar-Vafa invariants.
The paper is devoted to studying the orthogonality graph of the matrix ring over a commutative ring. It is proved that the orthogonality graph of the ring of matrices with size greater than 1 over a commutative ring with zero-divisors is connected and has diameter 3 or 4; a criterion for each value is obtained. It is also shown that each of its vertices has distance at most 2 from some scalar matrix.
This is the second of a sequence of papers proving the quantum invariance for ordinary flops over an arbitrary smooth base. In this paper, we complete the proof of the invariance of the big quantum rings under ordinary flops of splitting type. To achieve that, several new ingredients are introduced. One is a quantum Leray--Hirsch theorem for the local model (a certain toric bundle) which extends the quantum D module of Dubrovin connection on the base by a Picard--Fuchs system of the toric fibers. Nonsplit flops as well as further applications of the quantum Leray--Hirsch theorem will be discus…
We attach to any commutative ring R a subgroup of the Brauer group of R, called the Brauer-Galois group of R. Its elements are the classes of the Azumaya R-algebras which can be represented, via Brauer equivalence, by a Galois extension of R. We compute this group for some particular commutative fields.
For ordinary flops, the correspondence defined by the graph closure is shown to give equivalence of Chow motives and to preserve the Poincaré pairing. In the case of simple ordinary flops, this correspondence preserves the big quantum cohomology ring after an analytic continuation over the extended Kähler moduli space. For Mukai flops, it is shown that the birational map for the local models is deformation equivalent to isomorphisms. This implies that the birational map induces isomorphisms on the full quantum rings and all the quantum corrections attached to the extremal ray vanish.
We prove that under semismall smooth flops, smooth projective varieties have (non-canonically) isomorphic Chow motives with coefficients in any noetherian local ring $Λ$ by comparing the pushforward of the constant intersection complexes through flopping contractions.
We formulate and prove Serre's equivalence for $\mathbb{Z}$-graded rings. When restricted to the usual case of $\mathbb{N}$-graded rings, our version of Serre's equivalence also sharpens the usual one by replacing the condition that $A$ be generated by $A_1$ over $A_0$ by a more natural condition, which we call the Cartier condition. For $\mathbb{Z}$-graded rings coming from flips and flops, this Cartier condition relates more naturally to the geometry of the flip/flop in question. We also interpret Grothendieck duality as an instance of Greenlees-May duality for graded rings. These form the b…
Galois closures of commutative rank n ring extensions were introduced by Bhargava and the second author. In this paper, we generalize the construction to the case of non-commutative rings. We show that non-commutative Galois closures commute with base change and satisfy a product formula. As an application, we give a uniform construction of many of the representations arising in arithmetic invariant theory, including many Vinberg representations.
Suppose that two compact manifolds $X, X'$ are connected by a sequence of Mukai flops. In this paper, we construct a ring isomorphism between cohomology ring of $X$ and $X'$. Using the local mirror symmetry technique, we prove that the quantum corrected products on $X, X'$ are the ordinary intersection products. Furthermore, $X, X'$ have isomorphic Ruan cohomology. i.e. we proved the cohomological minimal model conjecture proposed by Ruan.
This is the first of a sequence of papers proving the quantum invariance under ordinary flops over an arbitrary smooth base. In this first part, we determine the defect of the cup product under the canonical correspondence and show that it is corrected by the small quantum product attached to the extremal ray. We then perform various reductions to reduce the problem to the local models. In Part II, we develop a quantum Leray--Hirsch theorem and use it to show that the big quantum cohomology ring is invariant under analytic continuations in the Kähler moduli space for ordinary flops of splittin…
The goal of the present paper is to show the transformation formula of Donaldson-Thomas invariants on smooth projective Calabi-Yau 3-folds under birational transformations via categorical method. We also generalize the non-commutative Donaldson-Thomas invariants, introduced by B. Szendr{\H o}i in a local $(-1, -1)$-curve example, to an arbitrary flopping contraction from a smooth projective Calabi-Yau 3-fold. The transformation formula between such invariants and the usual Donaldson-Thomas invariants are also established. These formulas will be deduced from the wall-crossing formula in the spa…
The Cremona group acts on the field of two independent commutative variables over complex numbers. We provide a non-commutative ring that is an analog of non-commutative field of two independent variables and prove that the Cremona group embeds in the group of outer automorphisms of this ring. First proof of this result is technical, the second one is conceptual and gives a way to obtain non-commutative rings from the bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves.
We define non-commutative schemes by using prime ideals of non-commutative rings, and discuss the étale cohomology, the Betti cohomology, and the fundamental groups of non-commutative schemes. For non-commutative schemes which are finite over centers, we prove the finiteness theorem for the higher direct images in étale cohomology theory, and the comparison theorem between étale cohomology and Betti cohomology. In Appendix, for non-commutative schemes over finite fields which are finite over centers and satisfy a certain condition, $L$-functions are expressed by using étale cohomology with com…
We compare the obstruction classes defined in arXiv:1101.4069 to those defined by Illusie. We also give sheaf theoretic proofs of some of the standard properties of the cotangent complex.
The purpose of this article is to prove that Gersten's conjecture for a commutative discrete valuation ring is true. Combining with the result of \cite{GL87}, we learn that Gersten's conjecture is true if the ring is a commutative regular local, smooth over a commutative discrete valuation ring.
We initiate the theory of graded commutative 2-rings, a categorification of graded commutative rings. The goal is to provide a systematic generalization of Paul Balmer's comparison maps between the spectrum of tensor-triangulated categories and the Zariski spectra of their central rings. By applying our constructions, we compute the spectrum of the derived category of perfect complexes over any graded commutative ring, and we associate to every scheme with an ample family of line bundles an embedding into the spectrum of an associated graded commutative 2-ring.
Let R be a commutative ring and let Spec(R) denote the collection of prime ideals of R. We define a topology on Spec(R) by using ultrafilters and demonstrate that this topology is identical to the well known patch or constructible topology. The proof is accomplished by use of a von Neumann regular ring canonically associated with $R$.
Two left noetherian rings $R$ and $S$ are said to be {\it singularly equivalent} if their singularity categories are equivalent as triangulated categories. The aim of this paper is to give a necessary condition for two commutative noetherian rings to be singularly equivalent. To do this, we develop the support theory for triangulated categories without tensor structure.
We construct new examples of multidimensional commuting matrix differential operators and a multidimensional analog of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili hierarchy.
A list of different types of a projective line over non-commutative rings with unity of order up to thirty-one inclusive is given. Eight different types of such a line are found. With a single exception, the basic characteristics of the lines are identical to those of their commutative counterparts. The exceptional projective line is that defined over the non-commutative ring of order sixteen that features ten zero-divisors and it most pronouncedly differs from its commutative sibling in the number of shared points by the neighbourhoods of three pairwise distant points (three versus zero), tha…
In this short paper we outline (mostly without proofs) our new approach to the derived category of sheaves of commutative DG rings. The proofs will appear in a subsequent paper. Among other things, we explain how to form the derived intersection of two closed subschemes inside a given algebraic scheme X, without recourse to simplicial or higher homotopical methods, and without any global assumptions on X.
