We investigate the moduli spaces of one- and two-dimensional sheaves on projective K3 and abelian surfaces that are semistable with respect to a nongeneral ample divisor with regard to the symplectic resolvability. We can exclude the existence of new examples of projective irreducible symplectic manifolds lying birationally over components of the moduli spaces of one-dimensional semistable sheaves on K3 surfaces, and over components of many of the moduli spaces of two-dimensional sheaves on K3 surfaces, in particular, of those for rank two sheaves.

We construct a canonical compactification $SQ^{toric}_{g,K}$ of the moduli of abelian varieties over $Z[ζ_N, 1/N]$ where $ζ_N$ is a primitive $N$-th root of unity. This is very similar to, but slightly diferent from the compactification constructed by the author in Inventiones vol. 136 (1999). Any degenerate abelian scheme on the boundary of $SQ^{toric}_{g,K}$ is reduced and singular and it is one of the stable quasi-abelian varieties introduced by Alexeev and the author (Tohoku J. 1999).

For a finite abelian subgroup $G\subset SL_n(\mathbb{C})$, we study whether a given crepant resolution $X$ of the quotient variety $\mathbb{C}^n/G$ is obtained as a moduli space of $G$-constellations. In particular we show that, if $X$ admits a natural $G$-constellation family in the sense of Logvinenko over it with all fibers being indecomposable as $\mathbb{C}[\mathbb{C}^n]$-modules, then $X$ is isomorphic to the normalization of a fine moduli space of $G$-constellations.

This paper studies stable sheaves on abelian surfaces of Picard number one. Our main tools are semi-homogeneous sheaves and Fourier-Mukai transforms. We introduce the notion of semi-homogeneous presentation and investigate the behavior of stable sheaves under Fourier-Mukai transforms. As a consequence, an affirmative proof is given to the conjecture proposed by Mukai in the 1980s. This paper also includes an explicit description of the birational correspondence between the moduli spaces of stable sheaves and the Hilbert schemes.
We prove that the moduli space A_{11}^{lev} of (1,11) polarized abelian surfaces with level structure of canonical type is birational to Klein's cubic hypersurface: a^2b+b^2c+c^2d+d^2e+e^2a=0 in P^4. We study Le Potier's strange duality conjecture for moduli spaces of sheaves over generic abelian surfaces. We prove the isomorphism for abelian surfaces which are products of elliptic curves, when the moduli spaces consist of sheaves of equal ranks and fiber degree 1. We find explicit projective models of a compact Shimura curve and of a (non-compact) surface which are the moduli spaces of principally polarised abelian fourfolds with an automorphism of order five. The surface has a 24-nodal canonical model in IP^4 which is the complete intersection of two S_5-invariant cubics. It is dominated by a Hilbert modular surface and we give a modular interpretation for this. We also determine the L-series of these varieties as well as those of several modular covers of the Shimura curve.
In this paper we study and relate the non-abelian zeta functions introduced by Weng and invariants of the moduli spaces of arbitrary rank stable pairs over curves. We prove a wall-crossing formula for the latter invariants and obtain an explicit formula for these invariants in terms of the motive of a curve. Let J be an abelian surface with a generic ample line bundle O(1). For n>0, the moduli space M(2, 0, 2n) of O(1)-semistable sheaves F of rank 2 with Chern classes c_1(F) = 0, c_2(F) = 2n is a singular projective variety, endowed with a holomorphic symplectic structure on the smooth locus. In this paper, we show that there does not exist a crepant resolution of M(2; 0; 2n) for n>1. This certainly implies that there is no symplectic desingularization of M(2, 0, 2n) for n>1.
In this paper we study the second integral cohomology of moduli spaces of semistable sheaves on projective K3 surfaces. If $S$ is a projective K3 surface, $v$ a Mukai vector and $H$ a $v-$generic polarization on $S$, we show that $H^{2}(M_{v},\mathbb{Z})$ is a free $\mathbb{Z}-$module of rank 23 carrying a pure weight-two Hodge structure and a lattice structure, with respect to which $H^{2}(M_{v},\mathbb{Z})$ is Hodge isometric to the Hodge sublattice $v^{\perp}$ of the Mukai lattice of $S$. This paper lays the foundation for determining the Kodaira dimension of the projectivized strata of Abelian differentials with prescribed zero and pole orders in large genus. Let $\mathcal{X}$ be a smooth Deligne-Mumford stack which is generically a scheme and has quasi-projective coarse moduli. We study the commutator subgroup of integral orthogonal groups belonging to indefinite quadratic forms. We show that the index of this commutator is 2 for many groups that occur in the construction of moduli spaces in algebraic geometry, in particular the moduli of K3 surfaces. We prove that the moduli spaces A_3(D) of polarized abelian threefolds with polarizations of types D=(1,1,2), (1,2,2), (1,1,3) or (1,3,3) are unirational. The result is based on the study of families of simple coverings of elliptic curves of degree 2 or 3 and on the study of the corresponding period mappings associated with holomorphic differentials with trace 0. We compare these two moduli interpretations and in particular divisors on the moduli spaces. On the K3 side, this is achieved with the help of elliptic fibrations. We also study the Kuga-Satake correspondence on these special divisors.
Moduli spaces of semistable sheaves on a K3 or abelian surface with respect to a general ample divisor are shown to be locally factorial, with the exception of symmetric products of a K3 or abelian surface and the class of moduli spaces found by O'Grady.
